New thread for Kondo addicts.

Sorry I can't do all the links that were on the top of thread 7.

So good to hear all the success. Great everyone.

I think I'm reaching the end. But I always struggle to actually complete things (e.g. putting away the last items) so will probably be hanging around for a while gathering up the courage to face the last bits of komono and then sentimental. I made a list of remaining to kondo categories. It was frighteningly small.

defk0ndo · 31/05/2015 23:49

Hi everyone! Great to read everyone's successes. Thanks to your advice I hv been able to move on to paper and hv done about half so far. Physical paper, that is...digital is a different story, but am trying not think too much about that otherwise I will just give up in a slight panic :-) that is the beauty of categories - it is a way to avoid distraction, if you can stick to them. Some papers ended up even being a bit sentimental, believe it or not. I will be scannning some but way less than I would have kept before. I am probably on the cautious side in terms of how much I will keep, but information does spark joy for me in some contexts so I am ok with that. i am joyful knowing that I will gave records of certain things and have come to terms with that on the basis that it is a conscious decision to retain rather than just hanging on to everything for the sake of it. Et voila. Good night all!

defk0ndo · 31/05/2015 23:53

I hv already done a fair bit on komono using previous decluttering methods, so i think that might allow me to speed up a bit.

Sentimental will be a biggie but tbh i am actually even looking forward to it as i want to hv a small collection of items i can actually enjoy occasionally, rather than a load of stuff rammed into a box somewhere which I cannot even access, and which I certainly wouldn't be able to grab in an emergency.

defk0ndo · 01/06/2015 09:38

Kid's artwork is paper, right?

Anyway, it's done now. The bits kept now count as "sentimental" for me. So I suppose I might see them again quite soon :-)

JKSLtd · 01/06/2015 18:43

Nothing specific done here yet today. Lots of laundry leading to ironing later sigh.

Old batteries recycled and battery drawer tidied. Some dead light bulbs replaced. Note I say some - need to buy some odd ones and need an electrician to fix one fitting.

Got the dishwasher man to fix the wobbling dishwasher and went for a swim so not a wasted day just not very progressive either.

prettymess · 01/06/2015 19:46

Worked on CDs today and selling some. Got more to EBay too. It's all going to our holiday.

standingonlego · 02/06/2015 00:14

Was doing really well a few months but totally fallen off the wagon....only my sports kit drawer has survived...and I can report that I do feel less in control and my clothes are sadder.

All restarts this weekend

MsUrsa · 02/06/2015 06:56

You're all inspiring me! :) Took clothes to the charity, and thanks to BertieBotts, tomorrow I'll be recycling electronics!

I'm reaching the end of the stuff in this house, actually, but back in Merry Olde England I have a bunch of stuff we've saved for when we move back.

And honestly, even though I went through everything before we moved, (I threw out/recycled/chazzad 50 bags of stuff, I thought I was so amazing) I get the feeling there will be more magically appearing crap when I go through again.

Still, this house is alllllmost done, and it's very exciting.

And tidying is much easier. Which is fantastic, because I'm super lazy. And really, who enjoys tidying?

Iqueen · 02/06/2015 09:37

I'm feeling really motivated at present - will be even more so, if the sun comes out, which doesn't look likely today! So I'm looking at small things that bring me joy. Smile

I'm concentrating on random jumble for a weekend sale, then I shall be back to the list - books, which I have been randomly picking at and getting out of the house. This weekend should see all the visible ones sorted and ready to go.

I really need to get more stuff OUT, but that relies on the MOT this morning, or it will be buses and carrier bags - if I live long enough to finish this projec! Grin

I changed my mind about a handbag I was going to sell. I need the money, but I really like it a lot. What do I do?

Iqueen · 02/06/2015 21:29

The jumble clothes and komono went today - even found 3 more komono items to add, as I shifted the box to the car!

Car failed its MOT, (as expected) on fairly minor things, but I haven't had the estimate yet!

Interior mirror fell off as I drove to the garage! But, it didn't fail on that, because the outside mirrors are OK, and legally you only need 2 working mirrors! Who knew? Yay!

I kondoed an old printer into a box, ready for when I get to the komono category, so it's not cluttering floor-space anymore! Wink

NotCitrus · 03/06/2015 02:44

Have a pair of shoes and some WEEE in a bag for recycling on the school run tomorrow. Otherwise lots of tidying. I put the chit for car tax somewhere... Why on earth is it so hard to give DVLA money??

Am going to sell or donate lots of craft stuff as its so cheap to buy now (or rather in 5+ years when the dcs might be interested.)

educatingarti · 03/06/2015 09:20

3 bags to the chazza yesterday! Progress is very slow, but it IS progress! All this talk about MOT's has reminded me I need to book one for my car (one way of kondoing all that untidy money just lying around doing nothing in my bank account!)

MsUrsa · 03/06/2015 12:29

I did it! Recycled a bunch of old electronics (managed to sell a couple of controllers and some memory cards too, feeling quite chuffed). Onwards and...upwards? Joywards? Whichever.

Hope your car repair isn't too expensive Iqueen!

NotCitrus, I know just what you mean. I have been known to turn up at the odd DVLA office with a desperate expression and the words, "But I WANT to give you money why is it so DIFFICULT??!!"

educatingarti · 03/06/2015 13:27

Yay! Well done MsUrsa

TeacupTravels · 03/06/2015 13:32

OOH glad I found you all! I bought the book in an inspired rush when I saw one of the old threads but hadn't really got into it. Just finished reading it cover to cover and am all set ready to go..........

Haven't read this (huge!) threead but wanted to post to say, "hi" and join you... and will read up a bit!

The only thing I'm not sure about is she criticises a family for having clothes in bedroom, toys in lounge, books on bookshelf..... thats my children! She doesnt seem entirely to be relevant to a mad messy house .... but I'm hooked on the idea of reducing what we have and organisign it all into a storage space...

educatingarti · 03/06/2015 15:07

Welcome Teacup ( I know a family who used to have a dog called Teacup!) Hope you find some inspiration here and enjoy the journey.

I have started on paperwork (again). I may be some while...

MsUrsa · 03/06/2015 19:20

Thanks arti. Hope the paperwork goes away well!

JKSLtd · 03/06/2015 20:33

Hi Teacup and well done Mrs Ursa.
Good luck arti.

I sold a kids trike this eve so that's good, a few pennies in the kids money boxes and less stuff to step around in the hallway.

Busy atm not sure what I do but days fly by.
I spent over an hour scrubbing the very manky bathroom this morning, then lunch out then orchestra hen school runs then swimming then mcds then home. Knackered.

Tomorrow swimming and visiting a very poorly friend (in a hospice and I've never been there before).

Ds1's raspberry Pi arrived today so more stuff in oh dear.

Iqueen · 03/06/2015 21:08

Busy in RL today, so no kondoing. Was in town for an appointment, so doubled up with a grocery shop at the only supermarket.

Bought very little, as the local mini-market is very competitive on basics. Treated my self to a Barbie Pink Geranium/Pelargonium, which brings me joy... geraniums and cyclamen are the only indoor plants that I can keep alive, year after year!

Car quote... a quarter of what I had saved for it! So, I've got left over savings. Aaaaamaaaazing! Shock Thanking the old girl daily!

Making a proper start on books tomorrow - have only been weeding them so far, (and getting them out of the house!) There are six more boxes, buried in the Room of Doom, so they will have to wait, because that room is my reward for doing the rest of the house - no idea what's stacked in there! Grin

Keep it up Konverts! Flowers

NotCitrus · 03/06/2015 23:04

Thankfully the new keeper doc turned up today so car is now taxed (and DD set up to autorenew if the piece of junk lasts that long. So that's less paperwork in future I hope. Turns out MOT certs are online but invisible now.) So car can be restocked with all the stuff that lives there. It's certainly more comfy than the scrapped car or the hire car and should save us money on train fares for wider family (7 seats). So pretty joyful despite the expense.

Time to do the detailed plan to order every part of the kitchen, and then in a few months the vast majority of bits of wood and screws etc will be surplus and can go.

NotCitrus · 03/06/2015 23:10

Went shopping today. Didn't buy any clothes as nothing I really liked or would wear again (need something to go over a dress for a wedding), but did end up having a make-up demo and buying some very expensive foundation. Which will get used as my face has gone batshit with zits and blotches - once on I decided I didn't need the lipstick I went for! Dd approved of the telly screens showcasing a life of glamour and stunning scenery.

Lodger has just offered me a bunch of cardigans to borrow for said wedding (she's been raking in new clothes at swapping events) so now don't need to buy anything as one is pretty good. Result!

NuriaP · 04/06/2015 09:01

Hi everyone! I am a new Kondoaddict (I hope) from Spain, I read the book and I'm really determined to sort out my house and myself for good!
I am really bad at getting things done, for now I have put all our clothes on the floor and I am already overwhelmed and tired from going all around the house, but now I need to sort it out or my kids won't be able to get into their bedroom tonight.
It's nice to see some people are almost done, very encouraging and makes me think I can do it as well.
My husband is scared, he said, but all the mess and clutter we have in our house is affecting us so much as a family (everything is a rush, we can't never find things when we need them, sometimes walking into a room is like getting in the jungle....let alone cleaning the dust or the floors, instead of being a 10 minute job can take a whole morning)... and this has to be over. I work everyday from 9 to 9 but I have 4 days off so I am going to have done as much as I can, just the clothes would be a big improvement.
Thank you for creating this thread!

Iqueen · 04/06/2015 10:10

I just rang our council about (data) CDs - I have boxes of the things from teaching!

They can be taken to the local tip, BUT they didn't realise that they can be 100% recycled! Sad They are going to look into it. Also, 'sold' the MK book to the member of staff that I spoke to! Grin

Books are calling to me today!
