Dh's old MP3 player left this morning. Obviously not a huge thing but still a step forward.

Late night last night so not up to much today.

CycleChic · 28/03/2015 19:03

Arts and craft supplies for DD gone through this morning (except pens, pencils, and crayons since we ran out of time Blush maybe tonight, maybe in the morning.)

We also bought a cross-cut shredder to dispose of all bank statements, etc older than I need to keep for tax and immigration purposes. Sooo tempted to send the manual it came with through it Grin

ShootPeppaPig · 28/03/2015 19:41

Right finally got to the end of DHs annoying extra paperwork to Kondo but managed to salvage box files that look neat to store the wedding cards so that's something!

Another huge boot load out the door to the charity shop today and I have my hallway back Grin

All I have left is komono and electrical crap to do!!!!

defk0ndo · 28/03/2015 20:13

Sounds like fab progress ! I have stalled a bit and losing motivation..... HELP!

ShootPeppaPig · 28/03/2015 20:26

The best motivation for me was DM announcing she's coming to stay monday...

That whooped my incredibly large arse into getting it done pronto - she would never have let me throw out more than half the stuff I have and inspects everything untidying drawers/cupboards as she goes. Takes me weeks to recover from her visits

But this time I'm prepared Grin

Invite your parents or inlaws to stay and the dread of them interfering - makes you speedy Kondolaz

Starface · 28/03/2015 21:51

JKS. Just keep swimming. One fin at a time...

CycleChic · 28/03/2015 21:59

Defkondo which category are you doing and stalled with?

Gibble1 · 28/03/2015 22:17

I spent £300 in Ikea! We bought 2 new lamps for the lounge as the dogs had eaten both the others. Picked up an ottoman poured thing for £65, it's a thing of beauty and comfy. It also has storage space in it so I can put the wires for things in there so the dogs don't eat them.
We have had a large pax wardrobe for 11.5 years and it has never worked properly, we never had the correct innards for it. I spent £100 ish on innards for it and DD's bedroom is going to look the bees knees when it's all together :).
I also bought DS some to rafts storage. He can now actually get all of his games consoles away tidily. It is going to be so much better and he will be able to actually get to his stuff :)

CycleChic · 29/03/2015 08:48

Pens, pencils, and crayons now done! Next up: what does one do with half a carrier bag full of mis-matched writing things Blush I should also get back to helping her tidy the normal, boring, put things away method, not Konodo style decluttering tidy her bedroom...

Trazzletoes · 29/03/2015 09:29

I've lost my Kondo-tovation recently (and I'm still a new convert) so hoping to rediscover it imminently. Like, today Grin. DM is coming to stay in a couple of weeks and she is a hoarder so in my head I would like to show her how easy it is to get her started!

Gibble1 · 29/03/2015 10:15

Meh. I have the whole day to get things done. DS has royally pissed me off because he won't even bring down dirty washing so I've told him I'm not doing any of it. (I know) but it's such a fecking battle all the time, I would happily go in and throw everything away but he insists on keeping so much shit- 3-4 games consoles :(

MILLYmo0se · 29/03/2015 10:18

cyclechic you donate it to nursey/school/charity shop ! Whichever is the quickest option to get it out of your house/head/life :)

JKSLtd · 29/03/2015 12:40

Started on game consoles and games and accessories last night. Binned all those rubber bits that go around the wii remotes. We never put them on.
We have too many wii games considering we also have an Xbox now and the wii isn't even plugged in atm.

I need to pull everything out to sort the cables it's just a mess of wires everywhere.

CycleChic · 29/03/2015 12:44

ThanksMilly I was worried that school wouldn't want it, as some of it's pretty crap why do we have half a dozen mini Ikea pencils? !

JKSLtd · 29/03/2015 13:02

I gave my shoeboxes of pencils and crayons to ds2's school. They can get used up quicker there than here. The head seemed happy enough to take them - as I bumped into her and asked.

JKSLtd · 29/03/2015 13:28

Yey freecycler just collected huge pile of Bob toys. Another heap gone.
Smile

Rummikub · 29/03/2015 13:33

Hi, I've fallen off the kondo wagon, :(
But I'm hoping to jump back in.

StuntNun · 29/03/2015 16:24

JKS I use cable ties to keep all the wires tidy.

Gibble1 · 29/03/2015 16:32

We're getting there. I have managed to get him to get rid of 1 small box with meccano in it and 1 light sabre. Some paper. Not much else though :(

JKSLtd · 29/03/2015 17:05

Thanks stunt nun. I think I still need to try and untangle and sort everything first then I can put some cable ties around the sorted wires. Good idea.

Kids birthday party used most of today's energy. Did unearth an old mattress protector from under our bed that needs binning.

Iqueen · 29/03/2015 18:10

Nice to see you're back, Rummikub! Flowers

defk0ndo · 29/03/2015 19:05

Hi there, thx Cycle... Don't really know where I am... Maybe that is the problem? Tried to sell sth big and it didn't go sonit's been standing around empty and depressing me... Fouind a few smaller items which were brand new and which I could probably sell for a few quid but again that orevents me from just Getting Rid so you keep looking at the items again and again, reminding you they need to be Dealt With. Suggests that my previous method of just charity shopping/binning asap was actually the right thing to do.

Rummikub · 29/03/2015 19:38

Thanks iqueen

I've got a big black bin bag of clothes for charity now and the spare room looks a lot clearer. But I seem to have come to a halt.

I found that too defk now it just goes to charity. I see it as my random act of kindness. I think if I get to the stage of only a coupe of things needing to be sold I might consider it. However I'm also a procrastinator!

CycleChic · 29/03/2015 19:40

yeah, I know that feeling, there are three bags of books and fourth bag of clothes and random stuff, enough that I'm starting to wonder about doing a car boot sale, wheras before, when stuff was only id-ed as not needed in drips and drabs, dropping off at charity shops was super easy.

Not knowing which catagory that you're working in would certainly hurt progress Grin Maybe restart at Clothes the next time you've got a good day or so to do it, with the secure knowledge that you will fly through the catagories that you'd already mostly done?

From the prev thread, the "proper" order to do things:

CycleChic · 29/03/2015 19:42

how did I poste instead of paste? Confused

anyway, the list:
Clothes
Books
Papers
CDs
DVDs
Skincare products
Make-up
Accessories
Valuables (passports, credit cards, etc.)
Electrical equipment and appliances (digital cameras, electric cords, anything that seems vaguely ‘electric’)
Household equipment (stationery and writing materials, sewing kits, etc.)
Household supplies (expendables like medicine, detergents, tissues, etc.)
Kitchen goods/ food supplies
Other (If you have many items related to a particular interest or hobby, such as ski equipment, then treat these as a single subcategory.)

(I get the impression, though, that it boils down to "your own shit first, then household shit with everyone affected helping, then you can gently ask others to at least contain their own shit to their own part of the living space")
