Awww! What's happened to the bouquet? MN are pruning - down to ONE flower now! Grin

JKSLtd · 25/05/2015 21:31

I didn't do it! Thanks

defk0ndo · 25/05/2015 22:17

A second folder done, but stress about possibly wanting to look at it sometime in the future....just out of interest... I am funny that way. Kept a few key docs for that purpose.

NotCitrus · 25/05/2015 22:27

I need to get someone to do cutting back and sweeping up etc in my garden. Really can't do too much - I found a couple apple trees three years ago, after 7 years in this house. The garden is about 15 feet square...
Just sold a spare table. Really need to sort out toys before more birthdays happen...

BertieBotts · 25/05/2015 23:39

The flower is a Terry Pratchett memorial and tribute to anybody suffering with Alzheimers :) It will be back to normal tomorrow, I think, but they're going to use the lilac once a year.

Iqueen · 25/05/2015 23:54

BertieBotts Thanks - I didn't realise. Never read any of his books, but heard him on Desert Island Discs and he sounded very nice and brave. Flowers

JKSLtd Still think it was you wot done it - you had the secateurs in your hand! Grin

Hi all

I've got quite a bit done. I did son's stuff yesterday. He's tricky as he doesn't get rid of anything. He's agreed to let go of some clothes he's outgrown.

I'm going to hospital tomorrow for a test and a health scare I've been going through has put a lot in perspective. Hopefully I get a diagnosis tomorrow as the insecurity of it all is so stressful.

anycherrypie · 26/05/2015 11:25

Hello all, I posted a few weeks ago. I started on this process but I'm still doing clothes. I've done everything now except for scarves, jewellery, belts and hats. I'm itching to get to my toiletries cos I know there's so much that doesn't bring joy. I have 3/4 bottles of fake tan and I never use the stuff anymore (pale and interesting is how I shall stay). I thought I'd get to do some last night but once I had done all that needed doing for the night and was ready to sit down for a cuppa it was 10:30pm so didn't want to start anything. I have about 6 bags of stuff to go out sitting in the spare room.

I failed at getting stuff out of the house without my family noticing. As soon as my SIL heard I had bags of clothes waiting to go she wanted them. Then herself and her mam went through it and now my MIL is wearing my old clothes (which are all too small for her). At least it's not my stuff anymore.

I'm feeling very positive about the change but also still overwhelmed by the size of the task and finding a home for every single item in the house -eeek! I picked up a harmonica off the floor yesterday and though "where the hell is this going to end up??"

Iqueen · 26/05/2015 11:41

prettymess Conratulations on getting some of your son's stuff kondoed - every little helps!

Best wishes for tomorrow. Flowers

prettymess · 26/05/2015 11:43

Thanks iqueen. MIL is looking after son and the house is tidy at least!

Yorkshiremummyof4 · 26/05/2015 15:46

We've had a weekend away with no children. I bought some new clothes which are pretty and practical. And when shopping for my daughters birthday I bought a bike which she needed a bigger size of. I found a funky helmet to go with it, but I've bought very little else for her. I keep looking at things thinking it'll just end up as rubbish. My husband laughed when I bought her a new snack box for school. But it was pretty and practical.

We are having a new lounge carpet fitted next Tuesday, so I must get the lounge kondoed. I've already done the DVDs although the still feel like it's too many. Tempted to ask DH to copy them all into the Apple TV and dispose of the originals.

We also have an expedit unit that contains games and puzzles, which are used when we are having a games evening, or the girls play with puzzles. So not sure if I should store the ones we like in the utility room cupboards. We've already halved them.

Anycherriepie I'm lucky that I live 120 miles away from family but they love to take things regardless if they have a use for them or not. Although my father loves my sons old tractor stuff from Bridgewater

Prettymess it took a couple of go's at my son before he finally did a good clear our with me. Just need to do it bit by bit. Hope you get some good news at the hospital or at least at a diagnosis that helps you to figure out what's going on.

At my hospital appointment they've said I can finally do hydrotherapy which I'm really looking forward to again. It's the only place I can try and walk unaided, and as I can't go in the bath it's lovely to be in hot water. They stopped it over a year ago as it was making me worse.

defk0ndo · 26/05/2015 17:36

Hope you get some progress, prettymess. It is awful not knowing.

I have done relatively well, liquidating another folder today and retaining key sheets with useful info on them. Have realised that the lever arch folders I have been using to store a lot of the paperwork in do not bring joy at all. They are not the easiest to use and they remind me of a previous job about which I have mixed feelings. So as I empty each one I am chucking it out. Oh dear! Forgot to thank the ones I hv already binned. Will do that now, Mentally.

Am just piling the papers to keep into magazine files for now. Will worry about storage method right at the end.

At the back of mind is digital clutter. Backup disks, hard drives, duplicates, etc etc. scary. I know i wont be happy til I have gone thru that as well. I know tho, that i have generated a lot of stuff through past decluttering sessions which were followed by scanning sessions. Ie lots of scanned Files. I want to focus on only retaining those which i really need to keep. Its easy to just think oh i will scan this. But then it is still there. I think tere is a bit in the book about information being noise and cluttering up your mind. That is defo true. I know that jumble of files etc needs sorting sometime.

NectarineSunbeam · 27/05/2015 00:06

Just want to send you well wishes, prettymess. Flowers

prettymess · 27/05/2015 18:07

Had my test and it looked all normal. They took some biopsies so have to wait for the results of that but it's a huge relief so far. Thanks for the support!

JKSLtd · 27/05/2015 19:19

Phew prettymess.

Just one small bag of bits passed on today. Bought a new bike for ds2 but It has a flat tyre already. Boo.

thatstoast · 27/05/2015 21:36

Flowers prettymess!

I've finished paper. Started on DVDs tonight. There is very little joy! Using music magpie to send off 97 DVDs. Hope to get about £40 for that. I think there's still more upstairs somewhere but I'll be surprised if I keep any.

NotCitrus · 28/05/2015 07:28

Good to hear your news prettymess and returning to hydro yorkshiremum.
I have replaced my CD player (mini hifi) which broke, with one the same size from Oxfam, and found new saucepan in Sainsburys for under £3! So the old ones have been thanked and already nicked by a scrap merchant. All the last nappies have been taken by a happy Freecycler who lives nearby (I've essentially given her 5 quid), so that's a joyful feeling all round. Was going to take large bag to charity shop but it's been nicked from the porch, which again solves that problem but does negate my happy feeling from donating to cancer UK. Though round here it's probably gone to someone who needs either the clothes or the money from Cash4Clothes, so at least not landfill. I did get some toys etc to charity shop - there was a 6-piece wooden puzzle that was much loved by all the kids as babies, but now just kept losing the pieces. Managed to get all of it together and into a ziploc bag, so I feel happy that will go to a new home.

Managed trip through pound shop with buying only what I went for (party food and crocs for the boys) ...and a book that will be ditched once read. And wrapping paper as just used up most of a roll, and pound shop has funky non-gendered paper that can be recycled (foil 'wrap' or paper with glitter can't be).

I seem to be getting a deluge of spam "invoices" usually containing viruses, which is extra annoying when they come from insurers etc that might actually be writing to me and I have to chack the reference numbers.

prettymess · 28/05/2015 09:49

DD told DH off for balling up socks. "You'll ruin the elastic!" she said.

Iqueen · 28/05/2015 10:15

Ha ha, prettymess!

Bet he would have been miffed if you had nagged him! Perhaps, his DD will bring more positive results? Grin

Prettymess I have an almost 9 year old daughter like that. She's a little OCD but keeps DH in check and at least it's not me nagging!! Sunday's are her favourite if swim bags and things for school are not all ready by about 4pm she starts to get very fidgety. Glad your results came through clear, hope the biopsy results don't take long.

Notcitrus I can't believe your charity bag was stolen. Hopefully it's gone to a good home.

We have my 3rd child's 6th birthday today. I was very good at keeping tat away. Bee replaced her bike and helmet for a newer one. She then got some Lego, a new snack box and little things. But I don't feel like i need to find homes for it.

The question is do I try and get her old bike serviced and repaired for dd whose 18 months younger or I do I accept after hard ware from 2 girls it might be cheaper to replace it with a second hand one.

Sorted through puzzles yesterday, how many puzzles do you think a 4 and 6 year old need? They seem to play with the same two over and over. I've put family games in an empty utility room cupboard so that I can get rid of expedit from lounge all together.

We currently have rabbits in our conservatory as they had babies but DH has decreed they need to go back outside by the weekend, and I then need to advertise the babies for new homes. Daddy rabbit has had his vasectomy. The children have lived looking after the babies she had 2 litters so 11 babies and 2 older bunnies. Done of the older baby bunnies have already gone.

prettymess · 29/05/2015 07:54

DS and I went through his DVDs. He asked to put the Toy Story and Cars ones away (too babyish!). We also took the Wii out of his room as he never uses it and he got an Xbox 360 for his birthday and that'll go up there. It sparked him wanting to go through everything in his room. He wanted to tidy and clean it all. I know because of his anxieties he won't let me throw anything, but I can get away with putting it in the loft for now. Progress, I think! He also wanted me to teach him how to fold his socks in that cool way as he much prefers it to how dad did it! Grin

JKSLtd · 29/05/2015 19:52

Wow pretty mess. Wish my eldest ds would agree to get rid of anything!

Gave away dds bike. But now have three bigger bikes in the hallway. Hmm. Not sure where they are going to live...

Half term nearly over thank goodness. The house descending into chaos again and I'm getting frustrated I can't get on with anything.

Not helped by dh relapsing a bit with his illness and spending a lot of time in bed. Whilst also keeping me awake at night.

BrandNewIggi · 29/05/2015 23:06

I have been failing by buying storage Blush One thing I really did need but a couple of others that Marie would be very cross with!

BrandNewIggi Maybe you are berating yourself unnecessarily?

a) if you are replacing other storage solutions;
b) you have found a practical storage solution, for something that had none before;
c) you have finished a category/sub-category and bought a solution for just this.

The thing to avoid is, buying storage solutions, before you actually identify the best way of storing something! Wink
