Welcome to the February Fledglings thread. Before we get started we have some important notices?:

  1. The Fledglings are a long running thread, some of us have known each other for several years but newcomers are always welcome.
  1. We follow the Flylady way (somewhat flexibly) and we adapt it to suit our lives and needs. That also means we chat a lot too, it is a general thread about life, as well as Flylady.

So the fly lady system there are rules and we have adaptations.?

  1. NO perfectionism - life’s too short.?
  2. Something is better than nothing and sometimes good enough really is good enough.?
  3. This is not about the housework, it is about having more time to do fun stuff. Don't ever feel guilty about doing stuff with the kids over doing the housework. The kids are more important.??And the practical adaptations.
  4. For newbies to the Flylady site and system everything you need will be posted here in the form of links. The homes is divided into zones where we spend one week each on a monthly basis. Within the zones we do babysteps and decluttering - the babysteps are little daily habits to get into, decluttering speaks for itself. As we progress we start doing missions (a more in depth task in that weeks zone). We may even get to detailed cleaning once we have decluttered. There are also daily tasks, on a weekly basis.

WARNING: Unless you want a very cluttered inbox full of gushing quotes and testimonials DO NOT subscribe to the Flylady emails from the site.

So, welcome on board and lets get Flying in February!

I love the cat picture, Bitchy - so true. And the spring cleaning one too. I once booked a company to do a spring clean for us when the boys were young and I just couldn't bear the state of the house: wish I could do it again, but it was costly. I had two women working for three hours, plus myself working on our bedroom, so by the end of the day I had a very, very sparkly house.

DS1 was up early this morning, so we had tea together and he told me all about his latest computer enthusiasms.

DS2 has a friend round to play today, so hopefully I'll get some time to myself.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/02/2015 09:34

Yay, I cleaned my bag out on WEds so I don't have to do that. The car is a tip though, DH took the DCs to the ILs in it last weekend and left it full of sweet wrappers and empty water bottles, grrr.

Thank you for stepping in last night Bitchy, not sure what happened with the computer, it just kept grinding to a halt. We had all been using it a lot and the DCs keep opening lots of new windows on top of old, so I think it all just got too much for it. We were also having some issues with the DCs and Dneice who was staying last night, so a lot of running up and downstairs trying to sort out "differences of opinion". All calm this morning though. Hoping the weather stays dry so we can get out to the park or somewhere.

It was a pleasure to be able to help. Have you checked the amount of free memory of the computer? Sometimes where there are a lot of users it can get so full that the computer stands no chance of functioning. I once helped a friend of my mother fix their computer by getting the dc to pick some games and un-installing the rest thus freeing up memory to work Grin Hope things stay calm today for you whoknows

That Sounds amazing toffee I think i am going to have to cave and move the furniture today. Not driving miles until sunday so I have time to recover and it is only going to continue to annoy me. So I shall get up and get on with it in a mo. Just pottering on the internet for another 10mins or so to let my coffee hit my blood stream HmmGrin

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 20/02/2015 11:23

ta da
find all minecraft resources and printables used and planning to use and make a not of them. (lots of free cut and stick block/critter type stuff in one link that I can do with ds -can link if anyone is interested.
finish clearing out and organising of computer files.
Make to do list

I am just about to drink more coffee and air the house out. Moving seems like too much effort. Need to but don't want to. But yet still want to have a massive sort out. Confused

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/02/2015 11:41

I don't know how to do that on this computer (it's a Mac). To be fair it very rarely plays up, but I don't like it.

OP posts:
BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 20/02/2015 11:50

Ah mac are a whole different world. and proper apple fans would be horrified to hear you call it a computer Wink

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 20/02/2015 11:51

might help?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/02/2015 11:54

I call it all sorts of things and most of them are less polite than computer! Will have a look at that link later, thanks.

OP posts:
BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 20/02/2015 13:19

yep but i do that with the microsoft op based system I have too. Currently I am swearing at stupidly small rooms and too much stuff cos it is a shared household situation.

I am currently emptying a wasn't entirely tidy to start off with room Hmm It seemed a good idea before I started

ToffeeWhirl · 20/02/2015 15:47

I have done some Flying Shock: washing on, dishwasher unloaded and reloaded, ironing done and hung up in respective wardrobes or folded into drawers, biscuits made, lunch cooked and cats fed twice.

DS2 has had a happy morning here with a friend. He's back to pestering me now though.

Vanilla biscuits, anyone?

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 20/02/2015 19:17

Been uber productive flying wise. Will be back later, just having a tea break and then back to work so that there is a landing, bathroom and a bed accessible at bedtime.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/02/2015 22:00

Not much Flying done, although I did quickly run the vac round this afternoon and do 3 loads of washing. DBIL and family were here till about 3, we went to the park and had lunch out together, the DCs had sorted out their differences so we put them on one table and us on another at the cafe and let them do all their own ordering which was nice. Then we had a dyslexia teacher come round to make an assessment on DD, I have suspected dyslexia for quite a while. It wasn't a formal diagnosis, but she essentially said you don't get results like hers unless you've got dyslexia, so that's me back in to see the SENCO at school next week, it never rains.

We're going away for the weekend tomorrow morning, so I'm going to post a double set of links tonight if no one minds. I'll be back on Sunday to pick up again.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 20/02/2015 22:51

Have a good trip whoknows

So today's ta da list reads:
empty room
take apart furniture
clean room
change furniture arrangement and rebuild
start putting stuff back into room

Not finished there is a couple hours of stuff to get done before I am finished tomo. But it is lovely to have got the dust removed. Sense of tired satisfaction.

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2015 00:10

WhoKnows - at least you will now, hopefully, be able to get your DD the appropriate help. I hope school will be helpful and ensure she gets any extra help she needs. Have a lovely break.

Bitchy - a productive day for you, by the sound of it.

Am happily printing out loads of stuff for home ed next week without any interruptions from the DC Smile. Off to bed shortly.

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2015 00:12

Far too many 'helps' in that sentence, WhoKnows Blush, but you know what I mean.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/02/2015 07:44

Bloody cats woke me up at 5am and I haven't been able to get back to sleep. Worried about DD and just generally feeling overwhelmed by life at the moment. I hope so about getting her more help Toffee, but feeling as though the school will be thinking "not her again" as I walk in the foor next week.

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 21/02/2015 09:04

Sorry to hear about your worries with your DD, WhoKnows. DD1 has dyslexia and is definitely finding school easier now that she's a little older; apparently it does often improve when they're in their teens. At least it sounds like schools are a little more geared up in the UK; we don't get any help here and were told by one psychologist not to tell the school about DD1's diagnosis as they would just pigeonhole her.

Bitchy Very impressed at your productive day!

Toffee Any biscuits left or has Bitchy had them all?

Actually, could do with a Brew more than anything as am about to start work. Possibly, depending on what DD2 and DS are up to... I've just helped DD2 revise for an English test, but she also has a big biology test and a German exam next week as well, and DH is helping DD1 to revise for her maths exam atm; I have the feeling that school work and revision are going to take up most of the weekend. I'm still snowed under and feel like I'm trying to fit a full-time job into a four-hour school day so am hoping to catch up a little over the weekend. And have absolutely no time to even think about Flying. Blush

Fizrim · 21/02/2015 09:09

Any biscuits left, Toffee?!

Well, the sale went through OK and the solicitor got the money. However - she couldn't transfer the money to us all in one go, so we have a large installment and a few more to come. I'm not sure why, I appreciate it is a large amount but we are not the first people to do it. I think that banks have really tight limits on money transfers now, but you'd think a solicitor would be able to do it.

This (and now our only!) house is very untidy ATM, we did some painting before we went away and furniture is still scattered around. I suspect DD fancies a rest day as the last two have been a bit emotional! I sobbed in the car for about 20 minutes on Thursday which really frightened her. I think I was just overloaded. It hit my DH more on Friday when we handed the keys over. Still, onwards and upwards! Will do what I can over the weekend and hit the house when DD is back at school next week. Lots of coffee is the way forward, I think!
