Fledglings are Flying into February

Welcome to the February Fledglings thread. Before we get started we have some important notices?:

  1. The Fledglings are a long running thread, some of us have known each other for several years but newcomers are always welcome.
  1. We follow the Flylady way (somewhat flexibly) and we adapt it to suit our lives and needs. That also means we chat a lot too, it is a general thread about life, as well as Flylady.

So the fly lady system there are rules and we have adaptations.?

  1. NO perfectionism - life’s too short.?
  2. Something is better than nothing and sometimes good enough really is good enough.?
  3. This is not about the housework, it is about having more time to do fun stuff. Don't ever feel guilty about doing stuff with the kids over doing the housework. The kids are more important.??And the practical adaptations.
  4. For newbies to the Flylady site and system everything you need will be posted here in the form of links. The homes is divided into zones where we spend one week each on a monthly basis. Within the zones we do babysteps and decluttering - the babysteps are little daily habits to get into, decluttering speaks for itself. As we progress we start doing missions (a more in depth task in that weeks zone). We may even get to detailed cleaning once we have decluttered. There are also daily tasks, on a weekly basis.

WARNING: Unless you want a very cluttered inbox full of gushing quotes and testimonials DO NOT subscribe to the Flylady emails from the site.

So, welcome on board and lets get Flying in February!

Thread is awfully quiet recently. But then again this is half term week and the thread does tend to be quiet at half term/school holidays.

I considered moving furniture and doing practical stuff. But I am actually sat learning bioche knitting stitches. Still not 100% after the virus that has been attacking me so another rest day will be fine. Besides I have all that wool to work through now too... decluttering no?

ToffeeWhirl · 18/02/2015 14:59

Bitchy - I'm here! Glad you are being sensible and having a rest day. Do you find the knitting restful?

Have walked into town and back. Bought small fish and chips for one on the way home and it fed all three of us, with some left over!

Both boys are occupied, so I'm going to make the most of it and start my new book (Anne Tyler's latest) might have a nap too.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 18/02/2015 15:53

I do, except when I have to rip back and re-pick up stitches but also it serves to keep my feeling like I am being very busy and productive whilst sitting on my ass and actually resting.

Just heading out to an evening meeting. Enjoy your book toffee

ToffeeWhirl · 18/02/2015 19:15

I enjoyed the start, but then nodded off, Bitchy Blush.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/02/2015 22:52

It is very quiet isn't it?

Links for Thurs 19th Feb

Babystep - a rather touching vomit inducing testimonial.

Mission - restock your bathroom cabinet and dust the DCs bedrooms.

Errand Day

Still here! We've had a few days away, and now we're back, I'm snowed under with work. Consequently no flying happening at all.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 18/02/2015 23:12

Oh no whoknows you have not killed it. If needs be I will personally go hunt out a few long termers and bring them back to the thread.

Motorway driving in strong wind is NOT fun. But was a very productive meeting and that is what matters. Next jobs are hot water bottle and a new block of pattern for the throw. An evening cup of coffee means that tonight will not be an early one so might as well try to be productive.

ToffeeWhirl · 18/02/2015 23:15

WhoKnows - I'm sure the thread is quiet because it's half term and people are busy.

Blue - hope you had a nice time away.

Haven't done much Flying today, apart from a couple of room rescues and the morning and evening routines. Oh, and I shined my sink. The ironing basket is still full though. I brought it downstairs a few days ago, hoping that would inspire me, but it just became part of the furniture. I think I'll just take it back upstairs again.

DS2 has raced through 'The Prisoner of Azkaban' for the second time and is now re-reading 'The Goblet of Fire'. Keeps him quiet for ages Smile.

I can hear the cats racing round in the room next door. Sometimes I'm scared to open the door. They have knocked over their kitten tower a few times, which makes the most almighty bang.

Just waiting for the d/w to finish, then off to bed at a sensible time (for me). Need to be up in good time tomorrow for a blood test at the docs. Night all.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 18/02/2015 23:41

You need a cat wall toffee they look amazing --and made me Envy as they look like fabulous fun. Plus being attached to the wall there is nothing to fall over Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 18/02/2015 23:43

I've just googled that, Bitchy - fabulous stuff. Not sure DH would be happy with our walls being turned into a cat highway though.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 18/02/2015 23:57

Grin I suppose I can kinda see his point but still. Would keep the cats busy and out of mischief and hopefully too occupied to be in stuff they shouldn't be in

Fizrim · 19/02/2015 00:29

I am still night-owling here (and snacking!). Busy because it's half term and I'm away tomorrow to sort out the final bits of the house sale. I will hopefully be back with you on Friday night, with an improved bank balance and a full glass of prosecco!

Need to start seriously flying next week though, can't even find the flylady book atm.

ToffeeWhirl · 19/02/2015 11:29

Have been out with DS2 this morning, so he's had plenty of exercise. MIL is coming round later. Planning to discuss next term's home-ed plans with DS2 this afternoon. Should fit in some Flying and make a phone call I've been procrastinating about too.

Hope everyone's enjoying the hols.

Greymalkin · 19/02/2015 11:46

I'm envious of your crafting Bitchy, I have lots of supplies but no chance of starting anything until I get some DS-free time.

Waves to WhoKnows Blue Fizrim Toffee and all other temporarily absent fledglings.

A pitiful ta da list:
Made beds x3
Emptied washed and refilled cat litter trays x2
Made doctors appt for DS, went to said appt
Put stuff out for cleaner

Normally I'd be at work today but as DS is ill and MIL also ill (she'd normally have him today) we're at home

Greymalkin · 19/02/2015 11:49

I'm contemplating a trip out, somewhere... Anywhere... Can't face three days in a row at home with fidgety toddler! Thing is, I hate going out during half term as everywhere is always so busy and the crowds drive me mad!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/02/2015 11:57

Ta-da!

Hoovered downstairs,
Mopped kitchen and bathroom floors
Stripped our bed
Second load of washing on
Cleaned bathroom
Hoovered living room curtains (the cats go behind them and leave hair all over them)
Put away spare school uniform stash

Just about to clean cat bowls and sort yesterday's laundry, DCs are just having a lazy morning, it's been a hectic week so far for them. Weather is bleurgh, it's been lovely the last two days while I've been at work, not fair.

It is amazing what you can get done between 1am and 5am Grey Ds is with his dad this week so I have child free time. PLus I have been sick and it is the only way I can force myself to rest. I am currently resisting the urge to spring clean my room and shift all the furniture about. I really really really want to do it. But realistically i am too ill.

Good luck with the entertaining of the toddler. If you have a garden I used to do a treasure hunt for ds. Gave him a sheet of pictures of bugs/creatures and helped him to hunt them down and scribble them out. Puddle stomping - don't need a fancy route just somewhere safe with puddles. I miss the pre-school days sometimes. You could do so much

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 19/02/2015 12:18

Sorry sod's law has kicked in whoknows

Swanhildapirouetting · 19/02/2015 14:01

hi - am doing absolutely nothing useful today.

Sent ds2 off to Morrisons with his pocket money with strict instructions to bring me the receipt and no orange drinks of ANY KIND

Teenagers have woken up about 11am

Ds2 has done a bit of editing of his video diary of ski-ing - severe pruning needed as it was immensely long and boring Grin and had the most terrible musak backing track from the computer "inhouse" music library

Ds2 has done a bit of times tables work

dh has gone off on a business day out to Stokey

It is cold and dreary and I cannot really face tidying up or even making lunch and since everyone had breakfast v recently will not bother Blush

Yesterday I went to Staples with dd and out to lunch with a cousin taking ds1 with me (who unfortunately was given cider by his two 16 year old cousins Hmm without me noticing. Returned to find ds2 in a very bad mood as he had been on the computer for several hours and was incredibly bored. Dh also in very bad mood!!! Home educating clearly cannot be delegated.

Oh ds2 is back - seems well exercised and in a good mood Grin He said a nice walk in the fresh air was what he needed.

ToffeeWhirl · 19/02/2015 18:16

Spent the afternoon sorting out next few weeks' home-ed stuff and printing out loads of resources, whilst fending off pesky children, neither of whom seemed capable of being apart from me for longer than about five minutes at a time . Anyway, I have managed to get a lot done in spite of the interruptions.

About to open a bottle of Wine and start cooking dinner. Very little Flying to report today: did the washing up and swept the hall floor. That's about it.

BlueEyeshadow · 19/02/2015 19:07

I think I've done even less flying than that, Toffee. Did one load of laundry and put a different load away. Oh and cooking.

Apart from that, I've been working. DH heroically took the boys to Aldi and then bowling, so they've been mostly out of my hair. Still, I've got enough done that we should be able to have our nice day out en famille as originally planned tomorrow.

Cheers, Toffee - we had Wine with toad in the hole on a week night! Shock

MrsMook · 19/02/2015 22:34

It's back to term time here. I don't get much done on work days.
There wasn't much to do on Mon or Tues as we had visitors at the weekend and tidied for that. It wasn't the usual stress-a-thon. I've definitely maintained the house better since new year.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 19/02/2015 22:34

Found this in December. I am thinking if I start now I will be finished next spring

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/02/2015 22:41

My computer's on the blink, posting on phone, I wondered if someone could do tomorrow's links please? Otherwise I'll try again in the morning.
