Huge thanks to Blue for leading the thread throughout November (and to SC for such a copy and paste-able OP Grin) Thanks Thanks Thanks

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

Flylady link is here

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework, which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  1. start or repeat baby steps
  1. repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  1. reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

More info here on getting started and Flying lessons. Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings.

Don't be put off by the barf-tastic language of the site - the underlying system is sound!

Three key points to keep in mind:
(1)No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine
(2)You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
(3) It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new; then trying to spend 15mins decluttering daily and doing the babysteps is a good way to start. Some of us (mentioning no names!) can have scary looking lists but don't let that worry you! Do what you can, anything is better then nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders!

Oh and don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey – some of us have been on here for years – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers very, very welcome!

See...so confused I posted twiceGrinGrin

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 29/12/2014 20:16

If you ever find the answer to that one Ellie my mother is exactly the same. Apparently it stops the machine getting clogged up. But surely the dishwasher is supposed to be washing the dishes and not just sterilising them/taking off the glaze

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 29/12/2014 20:51

Ok i am playing about with the opening post for the fledgling January thread. Can someone remind of of the childless decluttering system. I have it in my brain it is the unfuck my life. but I suspect that I am wrong with this.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 29/12/2014 21:13

Do you mean the Marie Kondo? I see those threads are still going strong.

Hope you are getting more sleep than I am Bitchy....! DH is snoring away here... Confused.

Thanks for sympathies Ellie (news flash - she has decided not to come until she gets over her cold - phew!), and I extend my sympathies over yours and the dw!!!! That is madness!!! Wink

Yesterday was busy. I got through most of my errands, but ended up completely frazzled in the supermarket going around for what seemed like hours, spent a fortune and came home without anything to make a decent meal (despite list) so will have to face into the Bermuda Triangle again tomorrow. Sad

Engels sorry that sweep couldn't be done. I had 39w doctor appt yesterday. She actually laughed when she was prodding my bump and said that baby was not going to be early anyway...which buys me a few more days!

Hmmmm....to get up now, or not????

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 30/12/2014 08:02

Sweep worked first time for me Engels - have some towels to hand sfterwards, my waters broke in the most spectacular fashion a few hours later, luckily in the kitchen at home. Good luck!

CallingAllEngels · 30/12/2014 09:12

Morning ladies!

feeling a bit more positive now. At least later baby means further away from Christmas and can enjoy NY with my mum and dad who arrive tomorrow.

Trying to keep busy inside to keep moving (as too worried to venture outside with bolter DS in this ice and snow).

Thanks for the tip whoknows - have been sitting on fleece blankets on sofa for last month and have a few towels next to bed. Waterproof cover on underneath our sheets as well.

I would stay in ebd if you can castle !

Ta da
Changed beds (was going to anyway but glad I did as DS decided to strip down and go commando on DH's side of the bed this morning!)
Wash on
Emailed friend
Fish out of freezer for dinner (DH is going to make salmon spaghetti)

Tidy lounge
Hoover upstairs
Washing in td

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 30/12/2014 09:57

Thanks! Honu can you see my room or something ShockGrin

I will set up the thread later perhaps but right now i need to move my ass. ds has that follow up appointment with the doc. Although I am leaving him safely asleep.

Greymalkin · 30/12/2014 10:19

Good luck Bitchy, and looking forward to the new thread, does it come with daily doses if your special bitchy-brew?

Waves to Honu, Engles and WhoKnows.

I have done f-all flying so far today, DS woke in the night and took DH and me almost 2 and a half hours to get him back to sleep. DH is still in bed and I'm a zombie on the sofa whilst DS rampages round the living room....

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 30/12/2014 10:58

A continuous vat might be more appropriate? WinkGrin

Think I needed some BitchyBrew (TM) today, have had a bloody headache that would not go.

Another really lazy day today, have started crocheting together the blanket I've been working on. Not a big one, for Woolly Hugs, started it Christmas Day, so will be nice to finish it by New Year.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 30/12/2014 21:53

Someone who knows me rather well got me this for christmas HmmGrin That bitchy special brew might be super strength in January GrinGrin

Grin Bitchy

Leaving MIL's tomorrow and heading for my parents ' for similar but slightly different stresses and continued over-indulgence...

Waves to all in passing.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 30/12/2014 22:50

Where's the Like button when you need it? What an appropriate present Bitchy. Hope the Dr appointment was Ok.

Engels/Castle - you are taking me back in time 9 years to when DD was due on Jan 6th, we wondered if we would get a New Year baby, but she was late, which reminds me, I need to get her birthday party organised.

Grey - hope you get more sleep tonight.

Honu - hello! Hope you are well, and DH.

Ellie - have you introduced your DM to Flylady? I don't think double washing up is one of the babysteps.

Settled into holiday cottage till the weekend, planning a fairly lazy time, lots of DVDs, board games and wine, plus a few walks along the beach weather permitting. It was beautiful when we arrived this afternoon.

elliepac · 31/12/2014 07:03

Morning all.

Busy day yesterday so no time to post. Have been sharing a room/bed with DD since moving into dmum's in June which has been challenging to say the least! Yesterday was spent clearing out the 4th bedroom/boxroom of accummulated junk/memories of about 27 years so I can put a bed in there. That is about all you can fit in mind but at least I will have my own space to retreat to which I am very much looking forward to. 6 million tip runs and many trips down memory lane were included including old school reports (i was such a geek!) and my dissertation on a lady who saved prostitutes from the clap in Liverpool. Today will consist of bunging a lot of stuff into the loft, trying to take some shelves down and cleaning.

After all that dc's and i are going to see BF for a couple of hours and then going to dsis's to see the New Year in.

whoknows GrinGrin i have not introduced DM to flying. She is anal enough about some stuff without adding sink shining to the mix.

honu hello my lovely how are you?

goth hope you are feeling better today.

bitchy i am now going to have to go to my laptop and log on so I can see your picture. I am guessing something to do with super strength coffee?Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 31/12/2014 11:10

Argh - in a complete flap today as we seem to have loads going on and have invited neighbours for New Year's Eve. Am really happy they are coming, but also panicking about the state of my house. I have just cleared out the sitting room, which had been relatively tidy a few days ago, and now have a pile of crap in the hall. Where does it all come from? More importantly, where do I put it all? (Our bedroom ).

So: big crisis clean today, then cooking lunch for us and DFriend who is arriving early afternoon. And DS1 has agreed to me washing his hair. I managed to cut his nails whilst he was sleeping last night, so he might be reasonably presentable by evening Grin.

Oh, and need to iron party dress and dry tights and polish mud off boots.

Hope everyone has a happy New Year's Eve.

CallingAllEngels · 31/12/2014 12:50
