Huge thanks to Blue for leading the thread throughout November (and to SC for such a copy and paste-able OP Grin) Thanks Thanks Thanks

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

Flylady link is here

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework, which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  1. start or repeat baby steps
  1. repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  1. reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

More info here on getting started and Flying lessons. Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings.

Don't be put off by the barf-tastic language of the site - the underlying system is sound!

Three key points to keep in mind:
(1)No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine
(2)You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
(3) It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new; then trying to spend 15mins decluttering daily and doing the babysteps is a good way to start. Some of us (mentioning no names!) can have scary looking lists but don't let that worry you! Do what you can, anything is better then nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders!

Oh and don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey – some of us have been on here for years – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers very, very welcome!

Lazy start to the morning here. Lovely to wake up to a warm house Smile. Not sure what we're doing today, but I am planning to tackle our bedroom at some point.

ToffeeWhirl · 28/12/2014 18:33

Very, very quiet on here today. Are you all ok?

Continued with our lazy-day theme, although we did drag ourselves out for a walk on the Downs. I have Wine and a casserole bubbling in the slow cooker Smile.

elliepac · 28/12/2014 18:53

I am fine toffee. Bit of flying this morning and then, rather like you, dragged dc's out for a ramble across local fields. Lots of ice jumping as opposed to puddle jumping and a lovely day for it. Felt good to get some fresh air in the lungs.

Dd and I are now snuggled down watching ET and DS is busy constructing his lego.

Lovely daySmile.

ToffeeWhirl · 28/12/2014 18:57

Good, glad you're ok, ellie Smile.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 28/12/2014 19:00

We've been out ice skating in Birmingham city centre with relatives, then a mooch round the new city library, dropped DCs back at ILs and did a bit of sales shopping. Jumping on ice puddles here too. About to watch World's Strongest Man then the darts.

ToffeeWhirl · 28/12/2014 19:19

Sounds like a lovely day, WhoKnows. We are about to watch the second part of 'Top Gear' - think it will be the bit where they get thrown out of Argentina.

CallingAllEngels · 28/12/2014 19:21

Okay here. Managed to fall on my arse in ice earlier and twist my ankle. Went to bed to rest and baby very quiet after a quiet 24 hours so called mw to be safe. She checked hb and sent us to hospital for monitoring as a precaution. All fine. Baby obviously having a lazy 24 hours!

Ankle still aches but can walk on fine. Guessing just a bit bruised like my pride

ToffeeWhirl · 28/12/2014 19:23

Oh, Engels, what a dramatic day! So glad your baby is fine, but sorry you have not come out quite so unscathed. Hope you can rest tonight. xxx

BlueEyeshadow · 28/12/2014 19:50

Phew, glad you're mostly ok and baby fine, Engels.

Today has been trying... At MIL's and DS1 has been very grumpy and hard work most of the day. lots of rudeness and shouting. Feels worse in other people's houses.

Long walks in order tomorrow, definitely.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 28/12/2014 22:35

I have been helping ds with logo quiz. Google is our friend. We have also watched dvds and chilled out.

Evening all

Engles, hope you're ok and resting now

Thanks for the links blue, I've actually had my first proper look at the fat fairy's website today, she does actually talk some sense!

Ta da:
Dishwasher x2
Washed bed sheets, hung up to dry
Folded three loads of laundry
Made beds

BIG sort out guest room ready for NYE:
Found bed Blush
Did about 6 '27 fling boogies'
Stuffed things in cupboard and under bed
Dusted all furniture
Remade bed
Shut door (the cats are furious to have been evicted)

DH has put up three nice long shelves in our landing storage cupboard. It's a really tall cupboard which means there was lots of unused empty air space IYKWIM? So I asked DH to put up some shelves and I now have tonnes of space to keep things neat and tidy. So happy!

Night all

Greymalkin · 28/12/2014 23:17

Crap! I meant thanks for the links Goth, not Blue Blush

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 29/12/2014 02:14

Oh shit. forgot to do any of my to do list. And have wasted far far to long on sorting out logo quiz for ds. However, have unlocked all remaining levels by googling the logos he was stuck on on the lower levels. It gives him 6 completely new levels tomo. I might perhaps get a lie in. Possibly. Must must must get on with my to do list though as that paperwork has a deadline.

Castlelough · 29/12/2014 08:53

Engels Sorry to read of your fall. Sounds like you had a proper scare there that you could have done without. Hopefully you are relaxing today and that baby will be along soon!

Trazzles Post-Christmas exercise?!!! Already? Best of luck with appointments.

Grey congrats on shelves. They should help with storage space.

Haven't slept too well last night. And have quite a busy list written out for myself. Haven't left the house since Christmas day and have a good few jobs lined up...

My DM is talking of coming to stay tomorrow for a few days. I have been finding her quite critical recently. I could do without 'entertaining' her and I don't want to be pecked at for the last few days of this pregnancy, but my attempts to put her off have been fruitless so far. 39 weeks today. Grin

Waves to everyone.

CallingAllEngels · 29/12/2014 09:52

Relaxing today and ankle feels a lot better, not even a bruise.

mw going to see if she can fit me in for a sweep this afternoon instead of tomorrow.

Now trying to get house sorted in case I end up going into labour!

ta da
internet banking
wash on

to do
washing up
tidy lounge
hoover
change beds
put wash in td
call mw in an hour!

ToffeeWhirl · 29/12/2014 11:20

Engels - glad ankle is feeling better. Good luck with sweep and possible birth!

Sorry your DM is being critical, Castle. I hope she behaves herself.

Hope you got your lie-in, Bitchy.

Another lazy morning here. Was woken up far too early by DS1 who had a headache and needed Calpol, but managed to get back to sleep again until DS2 woke us up. Spent about an hour getting breakfast for cats, children and DH, but am now enjoying some quiet time. DH has gone to work; both boys are busy in their bedrooms; cats are asleep Grin.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 29/12/2014 14:16

Conversations went like this:
Ds: you look dreadful
Me: I didn't sleep last night, could sleep.
Ds: Do you want breakfast? I am getting you breakfast.
Me:Thank you for my scrambled eggs
Ds: You need some sleep, sleep now.

CallingAllEngels · 29/12/2014 14:28

Grin at ds bitchy

Enjoy your quiet time toffee

Unfortunately mw couldn't do sweep as zero dilation Sad Booked in for another appointment at the end of the week (on my birthday!) so think this will definitely be a 2015 baby.

ta da
hoovered and swept downstairs
wash in td
washing up
chx out of freezer for dinner

GoingGoingGoth · 29/12/2014 16:57

Hopes Grey has come out of the naughty corner Grin

Did some of the weekly Bleugh yesterday, so took DD to the cinema this morning, followed by a shopping trip. Am now getting warm again as it's bloody freezing here.

Also saw this on my FB timeline Xmas Grin

I loving the fact that even ds is telling bitchy to sleep Grin.

Busy day here relatively speaking. Family visiting for much of the day which was nice and then board games (family triv and charades for kids). Simple tea of egg and chips and now about to watch a movie with DS.

engels bad luck about the sweep. I have what felt like a million of the things and unfortunately not one of them worked (both dc's as overdue as you can go and both ended up as an induction - I figure I must have a comfy womb). Fingers crossed you have more luck.

elliepac · 29/12/2014 19:45

All these babies are confusing my tiny 'i am on holiday from work' brain. Just had to go and double check that it was engels that had a sweep and not castleGrinGrin.

Sympathies re the mother castle. As you all know am currently residing with mine. She has just returned from a blissful week away (for me not herWinkGrin). Today I have been told to restack the dishwasher (because I did it wrong..didn't even know that was possible) and been chastised for not washing the plates before i out them in the dw, and i mean wash not a quick rinse off. What is the fecking point lf having a dishwasher if you wash things before they go in? Grrr.
