Anybody want to join me in a mega, whole house declutter?

I am desperate to have a clean and tidy home. It's always ruined my life and I always feel very lonely, partly because I can never have anybody over without a week or so notice to clean up! I am fed up of being like this and want to make a change for good. I know that the biggest step is to declutter, as it will make it so much easier to keep tidy.

I have delcuttered lots of times before, and I then end up filling it up again! I don't want to do this again! I want this to be the last time!!

Anybody up for joining me?

I have already done my girls room (They share a small double and it was always so full that they couldn't ever have space to play in it!). It is so much easier now, I finished it about a week ago but have actually kept it tidy!

I am now moving onto my Son's room. It's a TEENY box room with just a cotbed and one chest of drawers in, no spare space and I have an extra baby to fit in their soon as we are expecting again. Baby will sleep in our room for as long as possible but no idea where the baby's clothes etc will go! So iv culled his clothes and now have 2 spare drawers, and got an under bed drawer now which I can use although not really space to pull it out!

Anyway, would anybody like to join me in my mission? We could support each other and keep each other going? I have also strarted looking into flylady and hope to use some bits from there, but not follow it fully as I like to do my own thing a bit.

Sorted through all 3 DCs clothes, put some winter stuff away and have like of boys clothes for friends and a huge pile of girls clothes for other friend.

Have to keep with the pace of donations as different friend gave me a bag of bits for ds1 last night!

Food shopping came and I remembered to give back a pile of plastic bags.

Off to work in a bit. Need to try and go past a charity shop - well actually stopping would be more useful!

JKSLtd · 30/04/2014 09:39

Oh and I've let dd go mad with some stickers so that'll get rid of them!Grin

ChaffinchOfDoom · 30/04/2014 16:15

only got one cupboard cleaned out today - but it was a doozy. sprayed the sucker with bleach.

also started wiping down a random wall..bit mistake as now there's a clean bit of wall making the rest look 100% worse

JKSLtd · 30/04/2014 17:49

Lol I have done exactly that! Wish I hadn't started.

More Thomas trains arrived for ds2 today, sigh. He dies love them so much though and we're using them as bribery reward for toilet training.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 30/04/2014 20:50

I managed to clear away some craft projects -that will never get finished- and sort through a box of random things. That.is.it. Sad

DS1 is off school sick at the moment and has kindly shared his illness with me. I am too tired -and grumpy- to take on much, but I'm pleased to have done something.

I was looking at a spot on the wall today and thought I should wipe the wall down. I now know to wait until I can do the whole thing.

Thanks for the tip Grin

Stay out of the shops, esp the 'stuff' shops. At least food can be eaten Grin

And don't try to read the whole thread, just jump in!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 30/04/2014 21:55

yup. Leave the walls alone

now I'm thinking I want to sort out and wash the crockery drawer tomorrow, there are weird long wooden sticks in it, I last made kebabs circa 2006 so they can probably go.

Stripyhoglets · 30/04/2014 22:24

Pudseypie , we started to use our Denby for Best set for everyday as we already used the pasta dishes, they are tough and survive being dropped and dishwasher end so we got rid of the cheap ikea stuff that chipped easily and now use the nice stuff, reducing the storage requirements!

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 30/04/2014 22:46

Chaff Grin

I HATE shopping and shops !! Especially big shops where there are vast amounts to look at. I am also quite indesisive -and tight- so I only buy things after I have given it -too much- a lot of thought.

But this means I find it difficult to part with things as I have the "this might come in useful, blah blah blah" thoughts EVERYTIME I have to decide what to do with an outgrown/unused item...it's exhausting!

Like JKS we are not having anymore babies, 3DC are enough, but I still have most of the baby things in the loft Blush

ChaffinchOfDoom · 01/05/2014 14:47

bugger. instead of sensibly staying in and washing things I went shopping. and got drowned in the rain. bought a new shower curtain though, the other one can go straight in the bin. Nothing useful to report.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 01/05/2014 15:29

Sad - useless rainy day here too

I have moved some boxes of toys into the basement. They were to go into the loft, but DP hasn't put them up for me. I can now clean the floor - yay!

2 bags of rubbish/recycling binned and I can now access the window in my bedroom-happy days Grin

JKSLtd · 01/05/2014 15:46

Nothing useful here, work & sch runs the order of the day.
Mcds for tea - more plastic tat.

pudseypie · 01/05/2014 16:14

Stripyhoglets problem is I have a nice white set that wasn't especially cheap that we use for everyday and I have all the matching white pieces so like to use it!
I haven't done any clearing out for a couple of days. Must get back on it soon.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 01/05/2014 16:50

just sneakily cleaned out the saucepan cupboard while looking for a casserole dish. then remembered dh smashed both dishes a couple months ago Shock
clean cupboard; but rethink on dinner. and a trip to buy a new one next week Grin
dammit - didn't want to buy more stuff...

ChaffinchOfDoom · 01/05/2014 16:51

those damnable happy meals! I always ''lose'' the toys after a day or so.. they got a bit precious over the smurfs though

JKSLtd · 01/05/2014 17:45

I have a box for the happy meal toys which I halved a few weeks ago and nobody noticed!
Today was books though so that's a bit better.
And just 2 as ds1 has an adult meal and I sometimes give in and buy the sodding toy! But 2 books the same is enough!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 02/05/2014 11:40

hoovered ds2 bedroom. took ages. then sorted his books out.
also moved our room all around to fit the cot in, as ds2 running out of moses basket space!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 02/05/2014 12:05

oops ds3 in the basket

JKSLtd · 02/05/2014 16:40

Have tidied the living room today, put away all board games, made sure all Wii games were in the right boxes, tidied DVDs & photo albums.
Also moved sofas and found some toys/some rubbish.
Tidied away remotes.
And recycled lots of unnecessary Wii paperwork.

Gardeners have been and tackled totally overgrown front and it looks great! So am claiming that as I organised them to come Grin

Then gave ds2 his new Cranky so trains & track all over the floor now. Hey ho.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 02/05/2014 20:38

worth it for a bit of peace though? Grin

started on dd ' s room, all done bar the hovering. she helped me so not too bad; threw away 2 big bags rubbish. going to move furniture around a bit tomorrow, experiment in her room as they'll all be moving when ds 3 goes into ds2's old room

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 03/05/2014 11:19

You two put me to shame Grin

The reason for the many boxes in my bedroom was due to 'musical rooms'.

DS1&2 shared a room until quite recently. We had endless bickering dueto this so I suggested 1 move into the -tiny- spare room.

DS1 said yes -I hadn't see that coming-

But DS2 didn't want the big room to himself.

So DD moved into the big room, DS2 into her room and DS1 into the spare room. It was chaos and resulted in overflow being put into my bedroom.

But the bickerfest has ended Grin.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 04/05/2014 20:42

am dreading
a) under the kitchen sink cupboard
b) the landing airing cupboard of toiletry doom

they are so full of stuff. that allegedly we need, so can't chuck away, just need to reorganise.

JKSLtd · 05/05/2014 18:46

Had a few days away so haven't done anything at home. Now have to unpack and do the laundry, sigh.
Think washing machine may be a bit dodgy too...

Tomorrow work do prob won't get much done, missed my child free Monday time!

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 05/05/2014 21:08

I have dusted and polished the staircase spindles [worst job ever]

DP has finished the wardrobe in our room so I can actually hang clothes up

I moved and cleaned some furniture.

JKS hope you had a lovely weekend

Chaff re the under sink cupboard - it's very rewarding when it's done and I have saved a fortune on cleaning products as there were so many forgotten duplicate items Grin

It's all rock 'n' roll here
