How do I clean a Pure ONE radio that feels sticky?!

My dh bought the Pure ONE Classic Series II Black DAB Digital Radio for our kitchen and after some time it has become grubby and sticky. I have tried to wipe it but the greasy feeling won't budge!
Does anyone know how I can get rid of it, it's quite gross?

I've got a white mini one which isn't sticky... I think if it was the first thing I'd try would be a well-wrung e-cloth and a lot of elbow grease. If that didn't work, a bit of a mild surfactant eg dettox on the cloth

I did ours the other day with baby wipes!

Don't use washing up liquid and hot water. I tried this on ours and the covering started peeling off instead of cleaning.
It looked gross.

You could try a degreaser and
samp cloth. Start at the back just in case!!

I used hot soapy sponge just careful that the sponge was wrung out so almost dry and the radio wasn't plugged in

Weird I've cleaned ours quite a few times with washing up liquid and sponge and the veneer is still intact. Mine is a wood effect with Matt silver handle and buttons.

Sorry should have said it's the black one we have. I'm guessing it's collected grease from being in the kitchen.

Is it the back rubbery/plastic one?

I have it too and it has done the same thing - quite vile but I haven't been able to find anything at all that will get rid of the stickiness.

Yes it is the black rubbery plastic one. Seems daft to me that it can't be cleaned properly.

Yes! Ours is the same. Had no luck so far cleaning it.

Ours was the rubbery plastic one too. I think the water melted the coating a bit - eurgh!

I don't know for sure, but some plastics and synthetic rubbers are affected by chemicals and oils (also by contact with some other plastics) which can dissolve into the surface. Something similar happens with PVC sheathing on electrical cables if they come into contact with expanded polystyrene for example. I would suspect the vapourised fat which come off frying and roasting is the cause.

start by asking the manufacturers what they recommend. You might even be able to claim that the material was not suitable for domestic use, if it degrades in a kitchen.

You could also try a cleaner intended for plastic dashboards and trims in cars, there is a chance it will work.

Just seen this thread and I have the same problem with the same radio!

Has anyone contacted Pure yet? Or tried Piglet Jhn's or anyone else's suggestion? I was wondering whether there is any point in contacting them to complain? I spent 15 mins today trying to de-grease it with fairy to no avail.

I had this problem and had tried everything. Just discovered that m methylated spirits works really well. It seems to leave a very slight deposit behind after you've rubbed the surface coating off but it's not really noticeable- much better than a sticky radio!

My mother had a very sticky Pure One digital radio and it's surface became very sticky. She fixed it by soaking cottonwool in Tea Tree Oil and rubbing quite firmly and all the rubberlike substance dissolved and revealed a nice shiny black plastic case underneath.

I have a Pure One Classic Radio in White soft touch finish. Except the soft touch finish is now so gross and sticky I'd hidden it in the cupboard. I'd tried white spirit already which wasn't working efficiently. I had better removal just scraping with a finger nail.

I'm taking the coating off completely ...back to white shines plastic with no Matt soft touch at all.

Now switched to methylated spirit on a cotton pad (kind used for make up removal). The result is instant! And it seems possibly to clean this way without having to scrape off all the coating.

I've used concentrated sugar soap and a microfiber cloth to great effect. A bit of scrubbing but much better. You've just reminded me that I need to redo mine!

There have been a lot of online reviews about this problem. I think it was Amazon or /and Argos

Except the the bathroom.

We have a wooden effect pure radio and I clean it with a baby wipe as well.

Just a quick note re amazon reviews; it seems that the rubber degrades/ is affected especially in the presence of sunlight. So placing it in your window may be the worst place .

I haven't tried some of the things mentioned above, having stuck to baby wipes till now, but my rubbery one is in the bathroom & luckily away from the window, so it isn't too bad for 4 years old.
