How do I clean a Pure ONE radio that feels sticky?!

My dh bought the Pure ONE Classic Series II Black DAB Digital Radio for our kitchen and after some time it has become grubby and sticky. I have tried to wipe it but the greasy feeling won't budge!
Does anyone know how I can get rid of it, it's quite gross?

This 'rubberised' paint softens over time from the oils on your skin.
There isn't a solution unfortunately apart from removing the old and repainting.

Just done mine with one of those aluminium pan scourers. Works a treat just wipe it with a soapy cloth as your doing it

I used WD-40

Hi, I have had this problem for a few years and only just discovered how to get rid of the sticky surface on Pure radios or any device with a matt, soft feel surface - ISOPROPANOL - it definitely works! However, it takes a lot of patience and preparation - protective gloves, a bit of fresh air, lots of disposable cloths and definitely lots of patience - it took me an hour of repeatedly rubbing but eventually it was all removed! I had originally contacted Pure but they avoided giving a resolution to a very common problem with this surface by offering a discount on a new radio! Hope this helps.

If it is the disastrous rubber covered model, the only partial success I had was to try and remove it all back to the original smooth plastic. Arm yourself with several aerosol hairsprays. You won't get it all off but anything is better than that atrocious dirt collecting coating put on at the factory. I failed with lighter fuel and WD40.

Some products are just not made to s good standard and the manufacturer does things as cheaply as possible without testing for longevity. Plastic decomposes and as it does so will leach plasticiser, causing the outer to feel sticky. It can sometimes be cleaned off, but using a harsh solvent will accelerate the plastic decomposition too.

The softer the plastic the more plasticiser it contains. Essentially as the plastic decomposes the chemical elements that make up it's composition start to separate from each other.

I contacted pure about this and they actually replaced the radio.

Sticky Pure1 Elite? This cleans it in 5 minutes!
Rub with some Isopropanol Alcohol (get it on the net from PureChem company, has many other uses like cleaning quartz kitchen surfaces), it instantly removes the sticky coating.
Now spray a little bit of WD40 onto a wad of kitchen paper and rub over the radio. In seconds it restores the shiny plastic and, believe me, your radio will look like new. And... be a whole lot easier to clean / wipe.

Isopropyl alcohol takes it off instantly.

Unbelievable. Mumsnet has everything! I've just managed this on my radio with surgical spirit which I think is the same or similar. It's come up beautifully.

I used alcohol wipes, and they worked, but you need a lot as the stickiness stays if the alcohol dries before you remove it. So I think sponging with a bottle of it is the answer.

It may not work on all types of plastic.
