Aprons/tabard/overalls - stepford or practical?

Sounds awful doesn't it!

As the sah owner of a 2 year old and one due August I have realised that I have years of small sticky fingers covering me in debris not to mention the other stuff.

It took me a year after having dd to realise that dressing smartly made me feel so much better and I don't want that to stop. I do get fed up of the marks etc though and can't be bothered/don't have time to change everytime we are going out.

So would I be crazy to buy some sort of overall type thing which i could then toss to one side and unveil the cleaner me?

Or is all too 50's for words...

maybe this should be in style

The sheer brilliance of the word 'tabard' means it gets a thumbs up from me.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/07/2006 09:57

no chance
wouldnt be seen dead in a cammell laird reject

babaworshipper · 13/07/2006 09:59

Cammell Laird????

How about this ? Or one of these (mmm, nice!). Sure there's some sort of compromise out there - could you just wear a shirt over your clothes?

JackieNo · 13/07/2006 10:06

Something from Cath Kidston ?

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/07/2006 10:08

baba a shipbuilders reject I call them things
wont look good on a size 8 now would it

babaworshipper · 13/07/2006 10:08

Love the first one!

Second one has firmly decided the tabard issue to a firm bleuch.

What about those long sleeved coat things like a nurses uniform could that look not to bad (begging emoticon)? I am sick of getting out and finding stains and strange stuff smeared on me.

Cath Kidson has potential with the benefit of it clearly being an ironic statement rather than just mental....

Not at a size 8 but at 5'8" I would look odd if I was. I am a 12 to 14 normally with a view to being a standard 12 post baby.

loving that website JackieNo

cos this bloke doesnt look gay at all

JackieNo · 13/07/2006 10:11

Something like one of these?

JackieNo · 13/07/2006 10:12

Reginald.

I have an apron which I wear when baking with DD. But it doesn't cover the shoulders which are a prime area for snot trails, sick etc IME.

JackieNo · 13/07/2006 10:15

A lab coat ?. Only seem to come in white, though. Why not just buy a couple of XXXL men's shirts?

babaworshipper · 13/07/2006 10:17

Love the gay bloke. Very cheerful chef lol!

What about something from this page
mmm nice

Sorts out the shoulder issue nicely thanks for the reminder bozza!

Naturally I would be wearing the fixed grin for the entire time I was wearing it....

Of course, if you open the door in one of those, people might assume you're the maid/housekeeper.

Harold · 13/07/2006 10:19

mmm what about this nice wrap over number

JackieNo · 13/07/2006 10:19

You might have to change your posting name to MrsOverall.

babaworshipper · 13/07/2006 10:19

Suspect lab coat would lead to maniacal laughter and kitchen full of strange bubbling jars easily influenced me! Same sort of idea though I think would be great.

can't quite get me head round the mens shirt idea. I wcould just remove my DH XL shirts to try it. Hmmm wonder how that would go down..

"Of course, if you open the door in one of those, people might assume you're the maid/housekeeper."

in answer to the question and trying not to be distracted by the hilarious links I have aprons and they are practical but I am particular about them... no tabards etc and only certain designs

MrsApron · 13/07/2006 10:26

Mrs Overall is taken, who is it come on show yourself!

MrsApron · 13/07/2006 10:27

go on Winnie show us an acceptable design!

southeastastra · 13/07/2006 10:28

i've got a really nice plain black apron that's quite big. i don't wear it really because i'm a scruffbag, but it's like the ones wine waiters wear. it looks quite chic

JackieNo · 13/07/2006 10:28

What a shame. What's Mrs Overall's first name? CAn't remember...
