Aprons/tabard/overalls - stepford or practical?

Sounds awful doesn't it!

As the sah owner of a 2 year old and one due August I have realised that I have years of small sticky fingers covering me in debris not to mention the other stuff.

It took me a year after having dd to realise that dressing smartly made me feel so much better and I don't want that to stop. I do get fed up of the marks etc though and can't be bothered/don't have time to change everytime we are going out.

So would I be crazy to buy some sort of overall type thing which i could then toss to one side and unveil the cleaner me?

Or is all too 50's for words...

maybe this should be in style

Still debating maid or forties throwback?

Or both depending on mood?

JackieNo · 13/07/2006 11:58

Maid for practicality, but forties throwback for serving martini to DH/DP in evening.

JackieNo · 13/07/2006 12:00

MrsBadger · 13/07/2006 12:01

don't forget to warm his slippers...

winnie · 13/07/2006 12:06

Slippers - yuk. I have an irrational hatred of slippers.

CheesyFeet · 13/07/2006 12:12

I am going to make a load for dd to take to nursery. She comes home covered in crap every day [grrrrr]

It's not slippers that dh wants warming when he gets home at night

Spagblog · 13/07/2006 12:20

DD's preschool wear smocks. I was thinking maybe an adult style one would be okay, you could look quite artistic and bohemian!

TwinsetandPearls · 13/07/2006 12:27

I started a thread last year about house coats as I love the image of myself wafting about in one! I love Spagblog's suggestions.

MrsApron · 13/07/2006 12:32

smock a possibility poss in cheesecloth or cotton stuff? Def a contender!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/07/2006 12:42

MrsApron, you'd just forget to put it on once the noveslty wears off. Have an extra outfit on the ready for when you go out instead.

MrsBadger · 13/07/2006 12:46

smock like this ? Or this ? (loving the matching mother-and-child combo...)

Actually Folkwear has some rather cool stuff, in an ethnic-bohemian way, inc some interesting kid's patterns.
