Flying into September - a new term for the Fledglings

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/08/2013 22:14

Welcome to the September Fledgling Flylady Thread.

This thread is for people with CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). We follow Flylady, the website with a mission!

All are welcome on this thread, experienced flyers and newcomers alike.

We try to follow the commandments of Flylady as we run our homes, loosely anyway. In between there's lots of chat and support as we go through our daily lives. We have coffee, cake, and a naughty corner for those who want to chat but CBA with their house some days. However you follow it, this thread is designed to make your life a little easier and more fun.

For those who are new to the system (and those needing a refresher), there are several aspects to the system:

  1. Babysteps. These build a routine. Some are really useful, some are downright odd and some are, quite frankly, there to be ignored. They build a good foundation though.
  1. Decluttering. Flylade is evangelical about clutter. In order to feel good about our homes we need to ditch the clutter. Flylady divides the home into zones, week by week and repeating monthly. As well as babysteps, we have to declutter in the relevant zone. Once that is achieved we move on to...
  1. Missions. Also in the current zone, these are targetted tasks to tackle one particular aspect. One a day, they vary month to month.
  1. Deep Cleaning. Once we have completely decluttered (some of us seem to be stuck permanently on that stage) there are deep cleaning lists for each zone. Achieve that and your house will be spotless!

One last thing - the Flylady website encourages us to subscribe to her emails - one word - DON"T! You will be overwhelmed by them. Instead come to this thread every morning and the relevant links for the day will be there waiting for you except when the thread leader has been on the Wine

A big thank you to Bitchy for last month, and also for doing this Sunday's links as I am off camping.

Whoknows as far as I know:

Tabby = stripy (browns &blacks)
Tortoiseshell = patchwork, bits of everything

My last was a tabby, could be aloof, but clever, got more affectionate as he got older. Current one is black and white (like the Felix cat) very affectionate, but dumb as a brick. Love both of them.

No idea what to recommend re choosing, I've always had the last one of the litter. It's worked out for us though. It's not until you get them home that you find out their characters, and ALL kittens are cute.

feetheart · 26/09/2013 11:14

Whoknows - I would go with you and DH picking one. We have done that twice - lady turned up at our house with last kitten of litter after DH had fallen in love with kitten's sister at a friend's house. We had talked to her but not seen kitten, DC didn't even know we were getting one and hadn't noticed us buying kitten-related things with weekly shop :)
Second time DH and I agree it was time to get another and that this time we wanted two. My tenants at the time had a litter and I went up and picked 2 out of 4 on my own. DC weren't involved either time and nothing has ever been said, once you have the kitten in your home the cuteness will outweigh anything else and you will all be besotted :o

BitchytheGreat · 26/09/2013 12:18

I lack motivation and the ability to give a shit.
This is actually a bad thing.

Trazzletoes · 26/09/2013 15:15

whoknows torties have 3 colours mixed together. Tabbies just have 2. One of mine is tabby and white though, so 3 colours, but not tortie because she has blocks of white and blocks of tabby, rather than all being mixed together iyswim.

If you Wikipedia the different colours you'll see pics. I think torties are mostly female.

We got our cats before we had DCs so can't help with that one, and we also got the last 2 of the litter so no choice! Though if we had had a choice no doubt we'd have ended up with 3 rather than leave the other one on her own

Trazzletoes · 26/09/2013 15:17

Here you go! Torties and Tabbies

PositiveAttitude · 26/09/2013 15:40

Oh my goodness, Trazzles I have just learnt that my tabby is actually a tortie! Poor thing will have an identity crisis!!! - Not quite as much of an identity crisis as an old neighbours cat called Doris who went to the vets for a spey op and had to be re-named Dennis after discovering she was actually a he!!

I have not been deported you will all be pleased to hear or maybe not But Feet I do so wish I had that way with words this morning instead of looking like a gormless fish out of water! I went expecting to have them take one look at me and realise that a mistake had been made and that it was all ridiculous........but oh no!!!! At some point into the 85 minute interrogation I realised this was deadly serious. I am quite sure that they think they have got something on me.......I cannot imagine what on earth this is!!! The lady was really nice and only doing her job, but had obviously been sent to get a confession out of me about something.......after we hit the hour I think I would have pleaded guilty to almost anything to get out of there.......but I didn't even know what it is, so I couldn't. She kept asking me why we had left the country, why had we given up our jobs to leave the country and why we would work for nothing abroad. I THINK she thinks we have a stash of cash somewhere, maybe abroad........if only!!!!!! It seems I am needing to prove a negative, while they can sit and just pluck accusations out of the air. I applied to see if I could have a little bit of money off my council tax.........now I don't think it is worth it, I will pay it all and be done with it.

ToffeeWhirl · 26/09/2013 16:10

PA - Could the charity you worked for in Cambodia write a letter to the council explaining that you were doing voluntary work for them overseas?

PositiveAttitude · 26/09/2013 16:19

Hi Toffee, I have already given them contact info for the charity, including email address, so they should have done that, surely??????? I suppose the worse they can say is a no to the money off council tax.....well that's fine, just say no and I will get on with it.

BitchytheGreat · 26/09/2013 16:52

ffs PA bloody twats who can't think out of the box!!!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/09/2013 17:29

Bloody ridiculous PA - show them DH's blog.

Booked in to go and look at cats tomorrow lunchtime, without telling the DCs.

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 26/09/2013 20:03

Oh, PA, they are just being jobsworths, aren't they? It's idiotic.

Very exciting about the cats, WhoKnows.

GoingGoingGoth · 26/09/2013 20:06

Shock PA 85 minutes! unbelievable, I honestly expected you to be in and out in 10 max.

It's ridiculous that you can be picked on for charity work, you were doing a good thing, and should be lauded for it. Arses!

WhoKnows I thnk you'll find it easier without DCs, if they grumble just tell them it was the last one.

Done
4 hours on bike with DD, exploring Pollok Park did stop for coffee
Dinner
Wash up & SS, DD dried & put away Grin
Laundry in
Next load on
Library

Planning much the same for tomorrow but at a different park. She will sleep!

BlueEyeshadow · 26/09/2013 23:00

Shock indeed PA! Would you prefer Wine, Brew, Biscuit or Cake?

WhoKnows - depends on ages of DC I'd think (can't remember how old yours are). Friends who recently got 2 rescue cats took the kids to ensure the potential cats could cope with them (aged 5 and 3).

ta da!
3 loads of laundry away
2 loads done and dried
floors all swept
kitchen floor mopped
quick flick round with duster
minor chucking away of paper
bag to charity shop
Aldi shop/errands
cooked dinner
more or less finished hideous job without tearing out too much hair
listed stuff on Freegle

So why does it still look a state??

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/09/2013 23:41

They're 9 and 7 Blue. Thing is, they can't agree on anything at the moment, I just can't face them both wanting different cats. If we find one we like tomorrow we will reserve it and then take the DCs back on Sunday to see it / pick it up and make sure all are happy, but tell them that we are only having that one if we are all agreed and the cat seems friendly towwrds them.

Anyone mind if I do links in the morning, am shattered and have had Wine.

ToffeeWhirl · 27/09/2013 00:29

Might be worth you posting on The Litter Tray topic board as well, WhoKnows. They were a source of great advice for me when I had our kitten.

Have loaded the d/w twice and there are still dirty plates on the counter for tomorrow. This may have something to do with me finding a large number of used plates and glasses in DS1's bedroom this evening. Some had clearly been there for some days.

Definitely no shiny sink tonight Sad. Will try harder tomorrow.

dizzyday07 · 27/09/2013 09:21

[sneaks out from under the cushions in the naughty corner]

well after all my good intentions, flying seemed to have gone out of the window again. BUT, we have family coming over the weekend as it's DD's birthday party tomorrow so I am spending the day BLITZING the house from top to bottom so will be back periodically with a Ta-Da list!

Shock at whoknow's choice of words this morning.

I have earnt a pj day I am about to go back to bed and sleep till school pick up. Just got to get through taking ds to the dentist and then this week is over.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/09/2013 09:39

Had a very busy day yesterday, school, work, school, meeting at school, then home, dinner, football and friends round for supper (mine not the DCs). Hence lack of links last night. I have a group of 4 friends with DS's in my DS's class, we get together when one of our DH's goes out for the evening for Chinese takeaway and wine once every few months or so, it is very nice. I made a fabulous and very easy pudding, if anyone would like to try it it was the Lemon Cheesecake sundae from this month's Sainsburys magazine.

The homework saga continued with DD, she sat up in bed till 9.30 copying out great tranches of the Guinness book of Records, then was up again at 6.30, I can see we are going to have to work on time management.

Anyway, today. Downstairs is fairly immaculate due to efforts ahead of the supper last night. Upstairs looks like a bomb's gone off. I'm going to do PTA minutes, go for coffee with a friend and then off to the cat rescue. Toffee - yes, I have been browsing in the Litter Tray and hijacked someone else's thread a couple of weeks ago and got some very useful advice. The Cat rescue man gave me lots of info too. Excited!

Dizzy - good luck with the blitzing!

Goth - 4 hours on a a bike sounds great, you have some fabulous parks in your city. It is a year ago today since (as some of you will remember) I had major gynae surgery, at the time I didn't think sitting on a bike was going to ever be possible again, but I am really enjoying cycling with DD now, even if it is a palaver with helmets, locks, garden gates etc.

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 27/09/2013 10:49

WhoKnows - there are some lovely posters on the Litter Tray board. They were so kind and helpful to me when I was looking after our kitten.

Am very impressed at your DD's motivation with homework. No sign of this kind of motivation from either of my DC yet.

DS1 has been awarded a place at his former secondary school and is going back!

We didn't know if they'd have a place available. He is delighted (says he just wants to 'be normal'), we are all delighted. Might have to crack open the champagne later. I'm sure school will be a bumpy ride, but DS has a good support team in place. He will have a 'phased integration', which means some lessons in the pupil referral unit at first, gradually starting to join lessons in the main school.

feetheart · 27/09/2013 10:56

Will this Wine do in the meantime Toffee?

So pleased for all of you :)

ToffeeWhirl · 27/09/2013 11:06

Thanks, feet. I'd better stick to the virtual stuff for now, as I have to sound sensible on the phone whilst we sort out the next step Grin.
