Flying into September - a new term for the Fledglings

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/08/2013 22:14

Welcome to the September Fledgling Flylady Thread.

This thread is for people with CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). We follow Flylady, the website with a mission!

All are welcome on this thread, experienced flyers and newcomers alike.

We try to follow the commandments of Flylady as we run our homes, loosely anyway. In between there's lots of chat and support as we go through our daily lives. We have coffee, cake, and a naughty corner for those who want to chat but CBA with their house some days. However you follow it, this thread is designed to make your life a little easier and more fun.

For those who are new to the system (and those needing a refresher), there are several aspects to the system:

  1. Babysteps. These build a routine. Some are really useful, some are downright odd and some are, quite frankly, there to be ignored. They build a good foundation though.
  1. Decluttering. Flylade is evangelical about clutter. In order to feel good about our homes we need to ditch the clutter. Flylady divides the home into zones, week by week and repeating monthly. As well as babysteps, we have to declutter in the relevant zone. Once that is achieved we move on to...
  1. Missions. Also in the current zone, these are targetted tasks to tackle one particular aspect. One a day, they vary month to month.
  1. Deep Cleaning. Once we have completely decluttered (some of us seem to be stuck permanently on that stage) there are deep cleaning lists for each zone. Achieve that and your house will be spotless!

One last thing - the Flylady website encourages us to subscribe to her emails - one word - DON"T! You will be overwhelmed by them. Instead come to this thread every morning and the relevant links for the day will be there waiting for you except when the thread leader has been on the Wine

A big thank you to Bitchy for last month, and also for doing this Sunday's links as I am off camping.

Bloody excellent news toffee Grin

Had some happy news this morning, SIL had a very early scan this morning and all seems to be in the right place and looking well so far. So happy and excited of the possibility of a little niece or nephew (our first) and my dc are desperate for cousins! :)

ToffeeWhirl · 27/09/2013 11:16

Oh, that's lovely news for your SIL and your family, NickNacks Smile. And thanks for your congrats Grin.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/09/2013 12:47

Aww, great news from Toffee and Nick Smile.

GoingGoingGoth · 27/09/2013 14:51

Toffee brilliant news, and so quick!

To damp here for our planned 2nd day of cycling, so that's been delayed until tomorrow. So instead Dd &I went into the city to pick some stuff up, and no we didn't go to 2 separate promotors to pick up our free bars of galaxy chocolate Grin

Dd got an early birthday present as we were near Build a Bear, and MIL had sent her some money. She is so excited, it's her first. She's also been throwing out hints for Lego Chima.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/09/2013 15:40

Good news from me too, been to the Cat Rescue this afternoon and signed up for two cats after all, one-year old sisters. They have to stay for another week for observation by the vet, so all being well we will pick them up next weekend. Haven't told the DCs yet as DD has gone to a friends and we want to tell them together.

BitchytheGreat · 27/09/2013 15:59

Sounds like every one has had a good day.

I was wiped and have slept deeply today. Still not feeling 100% but need to get up and get the dentist bit over and done with before a lazy evening.

ToffeeWhirl · 27/09/2013 16:07

That is so exciting about the cats, WhoKnows. It will be such fun telling the children.

DS2 has come home with two friends. It sounds like about 10 boys upstairs. DS1 has retreated to his room. DH has gone out. I am cowering downstairs. I think they are having a pretend battle. Am going to offer them crumpets, then retreat.

ToffeeWhirl · 27/09/2013 16:08

Glad you slept well, Bitchy.

PositiveAttitude · 27/09/2013 17:36

Brilliant news from Toffee, Nicknacks and Whoknows

Been "chatting" my DBro, who just happens to be a high level solicitor. He thinks he might know what is going on with the council. Sorry, cant say much on here as it COULD become dead serious - but I am now hoping that DBro can help me out of a very awkward situation. Once it has resolved I will give you all a bloody good laugh. I feel as if I am living a black comedy sketch scene out in my own life if what my brother says turns out to be true! Shock Blush Confused

On the plus side I have sort of been offered 2 jobs today without even applying for either. Been "headhunted" for both which makes me feel very up myself proud! Grin I can do both as well as all my other little ones. It's all looking quite good and I absolutely love all these jobs. I am supposed to be going for an interview for another next Wednesday....not too sure I need to now. Confused

Absolutely no flying here today. Working all day, then lunch with DBro, out this evening for a meeting. So no tossing for me! Blush Does my car load to the tip earlier this week count as a good toss???? Blush - I think I am missing DH a bit much today. Blush

NickNacks · 27/09/2013 21:26

Could have sworn I posted again earlier. Hmm...

whoknows I am very jealous of the cats. We are having to put our plans on hold because I'm still not feeling right. Back to work on Monday th

NickNacks · 27/09/2013 21:34

Argh!!! Fucking iPad!!

Back to work on Monday though is I need to perk up and get organised.

Dh is working this weekend which I sort of need to crack on with some jobs. Ds2 needs his new curtains up bless him- I bought them ages ago and and he's been so patient living with the granny (literally he's in our old room which used to be fil and mils room!) curtains.

pa how very strange, you council situation. I hope you get it sorted, and soon. How is dd3? :)

Not seen ellie for a while? Hope she's ok.

Waves to the rest of you all and have a lovely weekend. I'll be back on in the morning to post a list but I know it gets very quiet on here at the weekends so I might 'see' you all on Monday :)

Swanhilda · 27/09/2013 22:08

Toffee they do grow up don't they, and become very independent minded..it is lovely but sad in a way. It must be exciting and scary that he wants to go back. I think he sounds such a determined boy.
Whoknows you are very decisive!! What type are they? Do tell us..
PA and to think Cambodia was considered an adventure - to suddenly feel under threat in your home patch is very very unnerving.

Today has been fine. I calmed my nerves by achieving small things like buying a mop,
having a friend round to visit ds2
cooking simple supper
visiting CBT Therapist
had nap after school pickup
walking miles

and supervising the lovely cleaning lady who has changed all the children's beds and tidied the kitchen. Which has made a big difference to Friday afternoon Flowers

and ds1 is in another Rugby Match this Saturday, he played in one on Thursday too. C team, I am so delighted, as is he. The first time he has ever been given the chance to be part of a proper team in his entire school career (including primary)

Swanhilda · 27/09/2013 22:10

Nicknacks don't do too many jobs this weekend please, if you are feeling still tired after the pneumonia, it is very easy to relapse.

ToffeeWhirl · 27/09/2013 22:43

NickNacks - listen to Swan's wise advice above. It takes weeks and often months to really recover from pneumonia. I had to have another course of antibiotics a month or two after thinking I'd recovered from it. Take it easy!

Swan - yes, he is a very determined boy when he's in the mood. It's as if the world has opened up to him at the moment and he just wants to make the most of it. The skateboarding community here is proving a perfect environment for him to start socialising again. Going back to school is all about friendship for him too. I don't think he is very bothered by the academic side.

Well done to your DS for playing in proper rugby matches - but poor you having to go and watch. I am very grateful that neither of my boys is in the slightest bit interested in football or rugby.

Goth - that sounds like a very happy and productive day Smile.

PA - congratulations on the jobs and good luck with the council nonsense. I can't believe it could be so serious - it all seems so silly. Thank goodness your brother might be able to help.

DS1 came back just in time for dinner, pink cheeked and smiling because he had finally managed to perform an 'ollie' whilst skateboarding - and not once, but seven times. His knees are unbelievable - a red and blue collage of grazes and bruises. He has knee pads, but does he wear them....? Nope.

The house is looking messy again, but my priority is sorting out school stuff at the moment. Flying is on the backburner.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/09/2013 23:43

Nick - take it easy, especially if DH is at work, don't want you to set yourself back.

PA - good to know you've got some back up from your brother.

Bitchy - glad you have recuperated a bit, hope the dentist visit was ok.

Not much Flying here today, been out most of it.

I've put some pics of the cats on my profile. We have acted quite quickly I suppose, but have been thinking and talking about it for a long time, it feels a bit like when we decided to try for the DCs, you just know when the time is right. I've also posted in the Litter Tray, if anyone has any words of wisdom perhaps take a look here don't want to totally hijack this thread.

Aw, they look like such sweeties, WhoKnows. I'm sure you'll get plenty of responses to your post on the Litter Tray in the morning.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/09/2013 08:58

Proper Links!

Babystep eat and drink well.

Family fun Day.

NickNacks · 28/09/2013 12:57

Thank you for the advice. I promise I am resting loads but unfortunately with 3 dc and a house that needs prepping for minding I have a small big list to get through.

Although naughtily I have just rearranged dd's bedroom Blush .

It started with needing to take down Dd's curtain pole and use the brackets in Ds2 room, just having a bit of lunch now and then I'll go back upstairs and put the new curtain pole and curtains up.

Will leave all the washing and general tidying up for tomorrow.

Be back later I hope you are all having a lovely Saturday. :)

JustGettingOnWithIt · 28/09/2013 13:40

Crawls out of naughty corner awkwardly. A bit overwhelmed here at the moment tbh, the past present and future all seem to be colliding and two funerals in one week have pushed things as well.
Today’s baby step is painfully close to home, far too little broken sleep, not enough liquid, and one meal a day wolfed down while being harassed are not helping anything. Going to have a shower, a deep breathe, and try and use the weekend to list write and make some sense of the backlog and what needs to happen to try and fix things. May or may not work, but it’s all I can think of.

Toffee great news that he wants to go back. Smile

Bitchy I know I keep saying the same thing, but hang in there.

Whoknows Empty cardboard boxes! Every cat should have some.

PA I hope whatever’s going on sorts itself out. These days everything’s about fraud prevention over anyone needing anything, and everyone’s a potential uncaught fraudster. It’s pretty crap and no one believes anyone’s supporting or doing anything for anyone because they believe it’s the right thing to do. It’s beyond their ken. Congratulations on job offers.

Apologies for no further personals but I think I’d better go do it if I’m going to.

JustGettingOnWithIt · 28/09/2013 13:44

Arghh! somehow it's deleted several bits.

the short version, good news Nicknacks, Goth of course you didn't! Smile and Swan enjoy the 'right of passage' sorry you've both had to wait so long for it.

ToffeeWhirl · 28/09/2013 13:46

That does not sound like resting, NickNacks . You'll end up on more a/bs again, like me.

Ta da :

Pancakes for b/fast
Washing on
D/W on and extra washing up done by hand
Persuaded DS1 to start work on the English test for secondary
Tumbledryer emptied and clothes folded for ironing and/or putting away
Tumbledryer reloaded
Cooker top cleaned
Surfaces tidied and wiped down
Sink shined
Kitchen floor mopped

Just off to visit MIL because she is ill.

Hope you all have a good day. Enjoy shopping for your new cats, WhoKnows Smile.

Still here. Just been really stupid busy. After a rather hectic week, DH announced he had to work the weekend and the weather forecast was good. So thursday night made a spur of the moment decision to come up to Filey for the weekend and am having the most lovely time. Spent the morning at a country park and am currently sitting on a beach whilst the dc's paddle (nutters, it is not freezing but not warm enough for the sea!). They can be quite nice sometimes my childrenWinkGrin.

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Back on monday!
