Flying into September - a new term for the Fledglings

Welcome to the September Fledgling Flylady Thread.

This thread is for people with CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). We follow Flylady, the website with a mission!

All are welcome on this thread, experienced flyers and newcomers alike.

We try to follow the commandments of Flylady as we run our homes, loosely anyway. In between there's lots of chat and support as we go through our daily lives. We have coffee, cake, and a naughty corner for those who want to chat but CBA with their house some days. However you follow it, this thread is designed to make your life a little easier and more fun.

For those who are new to the system (and those needing a refresher), there are several aspects to the system:

  1. Babysteps. These build a routine. Some are really useful, some are downright odd and some are, quite frankly, there to be ignored. They build a good foundation though.
  1. Decluttering. Flylade is evangelical about clutter. In order to feel good about our homes we need to ditch the clutter. Flylady divides the home into zones, week by week and repeating monthly. As well as babysteps, we have to declutter in the relevant zone. Once that is achieved we move on to...
  1. Missions. Also in the current zone, these are targetted tasks to tackle one particular aspect. One a day, they vary month to month.
  1. Deep Cleaning. Once we have completely decluttered (some of us seem to be stuck permanently on that stage) there are deep cleaning lists for each zone. Achieve that and your house will be spotless!

One last thing - the Flylady website encourages us to subscribe to her emails - one word - DON"T! You will be overwhelmed by them. Instead come to this thread every morning and the relevant links for the day will be there waiting for you except when the thread leader has been on the Wine

A big thank you to Bitchy for last month, and also for doing this Sunday's links as I am off camping.

Sad at cleaning up sick trazzle, hope everything is betters now. I'm Envy at cleaning ladies though, I want one!

Ta Da
Dosed myself up with painkillers and gritted my teeth to get on with the day
Washed up breakfast dishes
Tumble dried last night's wash
Put another wash on
Wiped around kitchen
Swept kitchen floor
Cycled with DC to school (then went to work for the morning)
Tumbled dried second wash
Put away dry washing that didn't need ironing
Put another wash on (towels so at least they won't need ironing)
Cleaned bathroom and toilets
Tidied up (including hot spots)

To Do
Pick DC up from school
Help them with their homework mountain (DS1 is having a wibble about long division)
Ironing and put rest of clothes away
Tumble dry the towels that I've washed and put the rest of the towels on to wash
Cook supper (chicken with pasta and salad so nice and easy)

At least it is Friday, and as DS1's football league and DS2's drama classes haven't started back yet we can have a well deserved lie in tomorrow morning.

ZingWantsCake · 06/09/2013 15:42

I can't concentrate on anything. there was an explosion not far from us, house on fire, black smoke pouring into the sky, ambulance, police blocking the roads.

I hope nobody was hurt.

BitchytheGreat · 06/09/2013 15:46

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh.

there is an awful lot of shouting from ds atm. meltdown proportions. over really really stupid stuff. Angry[tired][notagainfedupofthis]

BitchytheGreat · 06/09/2013 15:46

Shit zing, xpost Sad

ToffeeWhirl · 06/09/2013 15:54

Oh god, zing, how terrifying. I'm sorry Sad.

JemimaMuddledUp · 06/09/2013 16:24

Goodness Zing, how awful! Do you know the people who live there?

BlueEyeshadow · 06/09/2013 16:36

Wow, how scary, Zing.

Going - have been too busy with work for headless chicken mode - that will come tomorrow. Will do most of party prep tonight and tomorrow morning with DH around.

Bitchy sorry about meltdown. Brew

ZingWantsCake · 06/09/2013 17:08

sounds selfish but I hope not.
we know loads of people from school (literally hundreds) but I only where a handful of them live.

DS5's keyworker at playgroup lives on that street but I know she is ok.

I'm sure there will be more details available tomorrow and by Monday.

Jesstryinghard · 06/09/2013 17:50

Hugs to you zing

And also to you bitchy

ZingWantsCake · 06/09/2013 18:05

a 40 year old male was airlifted to hospital - smoke inhalation. no one else injured. house destroyed.
fuck. poor bloke, I hope he'll pull through.

suspected gas explosion. roads are blocked. I'm reading news online.
they said first caller was at 1.30 pm, just minutes before I did so it's good to know they got there really quickly - I could hear the sirens just after I hung up the phone.

the adjacent houses have damage too. I wonder who I should call to find out how I could help.

ZingWantsCake · 06/09/2013 18:34

sorry, last one about this fire - I googled it with Google Earth (based on photos on various news webpages) and we used to live on that road - it is 5th doors down to our first home.

right, I'll keep checking the news, but I'm thinking about something for dinner.

cereal?

NickNacks · 06/09/2013 18:35

Blimey, poor bloke. Hope he's ok. :(

Thanks for all the cleaner's jobs suggestion. swan I'd like to think its organised but we still have a lot of stuff. I'm decluttering like crazy so we don't have things like a linen cupboard ( I only have one spare fitted sheet fr each DC in case of bed wetting, one spare hand towel and our 4 bath towels are kept there ). I need to ask if she irons... School shirts would be handy. :)

Off to do half hour more decluttering...

JemimaMuddledUp · 06/09/2013 18:43

I saw it online too, I hope he's OK.

Ta Da
Washed up breakfast dishes
Tumble dried last night's wash
Put another wash on
Wiped around kitchen
Swept kitchen floor
Cycled with DC to school (then went to work for the morning)
Tumbled dried second wash
Put away dry washing that didn't need ironing
Put another wash on (towels so at least they won't need ironing)
Cleaned bathroom and toilets
Tidied up (including hot spots)
Picked DC up from school
Ironed and put rest of clothes away
Put towel wash on to tumble dry
Cooked supper
Booked hotel room for DS1's birthday trip to see War Horse
Ordered DS1's birthday presents
Did Tesco online shop

I have given up on the idea of tackling homework tonight, DS1 had a friend to play after school so apart from his piano practice I don't think he'll get anything done tonight.

To Do
Wash dishes
Wipe around kitchen
Put another load of tumble drying on
Put another wash on

And then it is feet up and Friday night G&T time Wine

Actually I had a little proud of myself moment tonight when DS1 asked at the last minute whether he could have a friend home to play. Normally I don't like it as I like to tidy up first (I'm sure 10 year old boys aren't really that judgmental, but I live in fear of a child going home and telling their parents that our house is a mess!) but today I said yes as I knew the house was tidy. I've truly cracked the CHAOS problem Grin

ZingWantsCake · 06/09/2013 19:17

Jemima now you know the area where I live. busted!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2013 19:24

Nick - maybe print out Flylady detailed cleaning lists for some ideas?

Zone 1 detailed cleaning.

Zing - how shocking for you, the poor man.

Someone I know has been in the news today too (locally anyway), he was brutally beaten up last year and will need 24 hr care for the rest of his life, the attackers have just been sentenced and quite frankly not for long enough Sad.

Flying wise - not much. After the school run this morning I had to take DH to work as his car was at the garage, then went to a friend's for coffee and into my work for 3 hours (busy at the moment, I did another hour at home after the school run). DCs have cleared the kitchen, we're just having a quick cuppa then out for a bike ride before it gets dark. Back later.

BlueEyeshadow · 06/09/2013 23:30

TO DO (Before 4pm tomorrow)
Work...
Cake out of oven, cooled and iced
Make jelly
Tidy and hoover downstairs
Wrap presents & do card
Wrap up pass the parcel
Pray for fine weather!
Cook enchilladas for tonight
Laundry dry and away
Last minute shopping
Sort out phones

Also done:
Cleaned kitchen and lots of general moving about of stuff

ToffeeWhirl · 06/09/2013 23:35

Zing - I read your news online too. How shocking. I hope that poor man is ok.

WhoKnows - that's an incredibly sad story about the poor man being beaten up and now needing constant care Sad.

Blue - good luck with birthday party tomorrow.

SC - if you are lurking, I hope everything went well for your DH and that you are ok.

Not much Flying done today. Spent this morning catching up with a friend and this afternoon trying to get DS1 to do some home ed (thank you to whoever recommended BBC Bitesize. I have used it with him before, but had forgotten about it. Very useful it is too Smile).

Took both boys out to the playground after collecting Ds2 from his after-school playdate. DS2 had just as much energy as he had had this morning Confused. DS1 is actually being quite nice to his little brother at the moment (thanks to being happier and more relaxed) and actually gave him a lesson in skateboarding. DS2 couldn't stop smiling.

House is not looking too bad, thanks to cleaner coming yesterday and me managing to keep on top of the daily stuff.

No more personals, as I must go to bed, but goodnight and sweet dreams of uncluttered homes to all.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/09/2013 00:02

Zing - I've seen that news now too, put on my work laptop again which has the BBC set to your county (where I work) as opposed to the home computer set to the one we live in. Terrible, hope you are feeling OK.

Not much Flying, went for the bike ride (DH is getting frustrated with how crap we all are at what he considers the basics). Never mind. Then watched GBBO recorded the other night, baths for the DCs, reading time, their bedtime and me on the OU work again. Quiet weekend in prospect thank goodness.

Saturday: Babystep Another good one - put your clothes out the night before.

Daily Focus Family fun day.

Night all

now you know where I live!Grin

we actually used to live in that exact neighbourhood, 5 doors away from that very house!

it's opposite Tesco and post office - I have to go to both today (to do).

I doubt it's someone we know, apparently he has a 20-something son. no idea where he was/is, but no other people needed treatment.
of course I wish it never happened at all, but thank goodness it was not a weekend or night time when lots of kids would have been home.
still, such a nightmare.

in other news, DD has torn a tissue to tiny pieces and is shoving them up her nose. silly girl.

to do

tidy house as we have open day again this afternoon. 3 viewings.

I've made an error decluttering, I've given away a book that was signed to me by the author, shit. Might try and get it back today, will probably have to buy it back even though I could donate them another copy (I had two). Feeling sad as it was a Christmas present from my mum. :(

ZingWantsCake · 07/09/2013 09:14

could someone drag me away from the computer so I start doing things?
please?

ToffeeWhirl · 07/09/2013 09:31

Nope, cos we are also stuck on our computers, Zing Grin.

Very lazy morning so far. DS2 and I are busy on our DS/laptop respectively. He is playing 'Animal Crossing', which appears to be addictive, but also very useful for buying me a bit of free time!
