Flying into September - a new term for the Fledglings

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/08/2013 22:14

Welcome to the September Fledgling Flylady Thread.

This thread is for people with CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). We follow Flylady, the website with a mission!

All are welcome on this thread, experienced flyers and newcomers alike.

We try to follow the commandments of Flylady as we run our homes, loosely anyway. In between there's lots of chat and support as we go through our daily lives. We have coffee, cake, and a naughty corner for those who want to chat but CBA with their house some days. However you follow it, this thread is designed to make your life a little easier and more fun.

For those who are new to the system (and those needing a refresher), there are several aspects to the system:

  1. Babysteps. These build a routine. Some are really useful, some are downright odd and some are, quite frankly, there to be ignored. They build a good foundation though.
  1. Decluttering. Flylade is evangelical about clutter. In order to feel good about our homes we need to ditch the clutter. Flylady divides the home into zones, week by week and repeating monthly. As well as babysteps, we have to declutter in the relevant zone. Once that is achieved we move on to...
  1. Missions. Also in the current zone, these are targetted tasks to tackle one particular aspect. One a day, they vary month to month.
  1. Deep Cleaning. Once we have completely decluttered (some of us seem to be stuck permanently on that stage) there are deep cleaning lists for each zone. Achieve that and your house will be spotless!

One last thing - the Flylady website encourages us to subscribe to her emails - one word - DON"T! You will be overwhelmed by them. Instead come to this thread every morning and the relevant links for the day will be there waiting for you except when the thread leader has been on the Wine

A big thank you to Bitchy for last month, and also for doing this Sunday's links as I am off camping.

Morning! Had a lie in this morning as the DC's activities haven't started back yet. We were thinking of going swimming but my ear still isn't 100% (much better than it was but still niggly) and DD seems to have come down with a streaming cold so we thought we'd be better keeping our germs to ourselves. DH is at work.

Ta Da
Tumble dried last night's wash (raining again)
Put another wash on
Made breakfast
Wiped around bathroom and toilets

To Do
Wash breakfast dishes (DS1's job)
Wipe around kitchen
Sweep kitchen floor (DS2's job)
Ironing
Put washing away (DD will help)
Help DC with their homework
Listen to DC's music practice - I only sit down with them once a week, the rest of the time they do it by themselves. DS1 plays piano, DS2 trumpet and DD violin.
Sort out DS1's football kit for the tournament he is playing in tomorrow.

Hope you all have a good Saturday Smile

BitchytheGreat · 07/09/2013 10:31

Morning. Well crap nights sleep but slept in one going to sleep so actually feel surprising rested. Considering a cup of coffee to get me moving as there is a shit load of stuff I want to do and I am supposed to be going out tonight.

I have not been watching the news, I have not read the news, I am probably not going to read anything other then my book. It is just me, on my own this weekend. No one else here. It is entirely blissful.

ZingWantsCake · 07/09/2013 10:39

Envy of Bitchy

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/09/2013 10:55

I don't know that area at all Zing, we're miles away (Surrey/Hampshire border), so I'm none the wiser really.

I'm glued on the computer too, we all seem to be suffering with CBA here today. Rain is clearing though so might get moving. I have made bread dough this morning but that is about it so far.

ToffeeWhirl · 07/09/2013 12:22

Am taking the DC to the park, then DS1 has agreed to have lunch out at a restaurant Shock. So far, he has only tried drinking a small apple juice when we go out, but he fancies trying lunch at a pizza place today. Am so amazed. Even better - I don't have to cook Grin.

JustGettingOnWithIt · 07/09/2013 14:17

Nick Nacks I hope you get the book back.

Good luck Toffee.

We've just lost the last two days to helping out very lovely but heartbreakingly vulnerable elderly neighbours who've had a horrid situation unfold.

Have spent morning trying to find all my tools and bits of useful ?clutter?wood, nails, etc, and now off to try and repair various bits of their home to make it secure and comfortable again, and then back to trying to work out what all the things I should have been doing over the last couple of days actually were!

ToffeeWhirl · 07/09/2013 15:49

Just - that is really kind of you. I bet your elderly neighbours are very thankful you are helping them.

He did it! DS1 actually managed to eat out in a restaurant Grin. He did more than cope too - he really enjoyed it. We had such a lovely time, the three of us, and I enjoyed being with them so much.

I can't remember the last time DS1 was able to eat at a restaurant, but it must be over a year ago and has been stressful for much longer. This progress is thanks to his CBT therapist's help, as her skill at getting him to gradually expose himself to anxiety-provoking situations has helped build his confidence. I will have to restrain myself from hugging her next time we meet.

Back at home now and we are all feeling full and lazy. We are planning to download a children's film to watch together later (another achievement, as DS1 usually won't watch films with DS2).

No plans to do any housework. Am having far too nice a day to spoil it Smile.

Blueandwhitelover · 07/09/2013 15:53

Am thrilled for you and ds1, toffee! Well done to all of you.

DS3, my baby, has come home for a weekend (of course, much of it will be out drinking but hey ho). he's lost lots of weight (was always a bit cuddly) and looks almost model like.
I miss my babies being little.

Anyway, nothing on the home front done today other than wash up last night's dishes. Oh, and a washing load done (ds3's!)Dinner to cook but that is simple (chicken breasts, actifry potatoes and veg).

That's wonderful, Toffee!

We have survived the party, cleaned up again - makes me wonder why I bothered cleaning in the first place - eaten leftovers and collapsed with a beer... Yawn!

wendyhappysmile · 07/09/2013 21:51

Toffee that sounds amazing for your whole family. I don't know the background but you must be very proud of your DS for achieving something he was so anxious of.
Hi all, sounds like you are very busy. Had a busy day myself and haven't done much in the house. Have decluttered in the garage a bit, with DH's help, and he has been instructed to put up two pictures I found in the garage. Cue huge row of course when he couldn't get them exactly where I wanted them. We are barely speaking but no doubt we'll get over it Smile. Anyway said garage is loads better so I might not break any more toes.

Made homemade soup, bread and flapjack for tea, so felt a bit more back to my old self again.

Have a lot of school planning to do tomorrow Confused which isn't a great prospect. DD has a swimming party. All children are manic, loud and grumpy - they all have colds. Hoping they are better behaved tomorrow!

Swanhilda · 07/09/2013 23:55

Wendy decluttering always leads to rows in our house Wink
Toffee we love going out to restaurants with the children, although we found it very difficult for first seven years. Well done Ds - I can see why in the wrong situation it might have been stressful for him.

Day has been alright here, and we managed finally to cook something from Hairy Bikers. The peace and calm is making us realise how unsociable we are! We never invite anyone over at weekend because we dread all the adrenalin going haywire with residents. We need to be a bit more welcoming I feel. Dd had a friend though, as usual...

Ds1 has been singing Stars from Les Miserables so beautifully I almost agreed he could go on Britain's Got Talent Hmm Otherwise, typical scuffling/sons fighting. Long discussion at supper about Evidence for Who Created The World for an RE essay. Cue deep parental thought about Darwin/Aquinas, son breezes off talking about meteorites and Big Bang and who did Kane and Abel marry? Still I feel there is beginning to be a glimmer of intellectual interest in Ds1 although it didn't last long...

found dd's locker key for school after floods of tears

NickNacks · 08/09/2013 08:15

toffee Well done to you DS!! So so happy for you all that he's making lovely steps forward. His CBT sounds like it might be working. And well done to you...I know you work very hard with him :)

I found the book :) very happy!

Lovely day out yesterday, with no flying which means all the jobs need doing today.

Lots of washing
Iron school shirts
Homework with DS's
Persuade dh to go to the dump
Tidy kitchen
Shower and dress
Do a bit of childminding paperwork

PositiveAttitude · 08/09/2013 08:37

Good morning everyone.

Apologies for going AWOL over the past few days. Very stressful few days here with Student Finance fiasco, my parents needing more caring and dad is getting grumpier by the day! I have also been manically catching up with paid work that has been seriously neglected over the summer.

Anyway, today is my birthday, so no work, no flying and no stress!! Although I am taking DD2 to the boat, waving her off and will see her again at Christmas. :( Just me and DS left in this huge house! Oh my goodness empty nest, or what????

So very very pleased for you and DS1 Toffee Grin Now he will cost you a fortune!!

Cant scroll too much, so I have not been able to catch up too much, but I hope your DH and you are both doing well SC

Tomorrow is the start of another week and I plan on being more structured with my time and more productive with what I do.

Have a good day everyone.

feetheart · 08/09/2013 08:50

  • Picnic made
  • Train
  • Much dancing :)

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/09/2013 09:00

Well done on the book Nick. I did exactly the same thing last year but only realised months later with no idea which charity shop it went to. Even worse, it was a children's book written and signed by an acquaintance of my mum's, and given by my mum who is very much of the opinion you should never get rid of a gift. When I was ill last year and my mum was here a lot, she was looking for it on our bookshelves, that was when I realised it had gone. I looked on Amazon for it, then when reading the reviews someone had said that if you went to the author's website you could order a signed copy, so that's what I did. Unfortunately (and this is one of the few times I've come a cropper by not taking DH's surname) she twigged that I was my mum's daughter, so I had to confess and make her promise not to tell my mum. So, we have a copy again, but (here's the real irony) it's awful and the DCs won't read it.

Happy Birthday PA! Flowers.

Toffee - well done to DS1, what an achievement!

Swan - we never see anyone at weekends either, always feel our house is too small and cramped to have entire families over Sad. Everyone always seems to be busy too. We like our family weekends though.

Wendy - well done on the garage, jope you and DH are speaking again.

Blue - well done on the party, I hate hosting parties, makes me very stressed.

Just - your neighbours are very fortunate to have you, you sound like a true friend in need.

Jemima - good list, well done!

Blueandwhite - have a lovely weekend with DS3

Bitchy - hope your peaceful weekend is progressing to plan.

Waves to everyone else. I had a nice day yesterday, took the DCs to the park on their bikes which was a bit stressful as none of us are very competent cyclists, having got them as far as getting on, going along and stopping again, I am finding the progress onto negotiating kerbs, crossing roads, steep dropped kerbs, parked cars, pedestrians etc pretty hairy. Anyway, once home we had a nice dinner, did some baking, watched Strictly and all snuggled into my bed to watch Last Night of the Proms (DH hates it but he was out). Managed one load of washing and ironing too. Back in a minute with todays links.

Morning and Evening routines - a cornerstone of Flylady principles.

Flylady's Flight Plan for today - would it be better to post these rather than the Daily Focus links direct? Maybe. Today is Renew your Spirit Day - do something for yourself.

Tomorrow we move into Zone 2 - the kitchen.
