Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Happy Monday everyone! So far I have done
the house bleurgh (or my version of it that doesn't really take an hour!)
Done washing
school runs
cleaned toilet
sorted some photos.

Still to do:
Remove anything from the sitting room which doesn't belong
tackle pile of clutter from sitting room that DH left in the middle of the dining room!
Box up some old toys from DS3's room in preparation for car boot sale (which we have been talking about doing for at least 2 years!)
continue with photos.

Swanhilda · 24/06/2013 14:08

oh Toffee that is the final straw when it becomes a struggle to get the child to the appointment that is meant to be helping them Sad However, I can empathise with your ds1; he probably feels like he is dealing with enough Stuff already. I find it impossible to get my children to FT; they hate her pulling things to bits, despite us waiting ages for the chance to see her - (a year?) I think it is good that your mum saw what you were dealing with, rather than everything being perfect..she will probably come up with some ideas once she is back in her own space and not in the thick of it, mothers often do. I know she is a lovely supportive mother to you.

done
money counting at church all morning
weekly shop at Morrisons give or take a few veggies/sacks of fruit

I am trying to think positive proactive ways to tackle today.

So, I have planned supper
will sweep floor
put food away in fridge/freezers
I will put clothes away
I will puta wash on
I will do ds2's phonics Blends without fail this evening
I will supervise dd's piano before lesson
I will dictate ds1 something on African Explorers this evening, bribing him if necessary

and that's it really...nothing more ambitious. The Sports Day that Ds1 does not want to attend and /Concert Wed that he is performing in, still need to be survived. Gosh I've written those two items down and feel quite sick with anxiety at thought of dealing with them. Must get a grip!!!!!

superfluouscurves · 24/06/2013 14:54

[camomile tea] for calm ...to Swan Hopefully fear will be worse than reality in both cases.

Sorry you have had such a stressful morning Toffee - glad you managed to retrieve something helpful from it though

Sorry yours was stressful too Whoknows

Yay Lauren you are back!!! You've been missed! As have your organised lists need someone to tell us how it's done Wink Congratulations on second horse!!!! Do tell all! Am very Envy though!!! Sorry your dd has cp as well.

Glad cp nearly vanquished in your house Jdub

Bum and double bum Ellie Looks like it is going to be nuns' sandals for me from now on ....Confused (And come to think of it Sister Mary Joseph's nylon M&S corset might come in useful too Grin)

You sound very organised Asheth!

At least you had a lie in Goth Grin!

Had better get on... tired today ...no idea why ... done nothing to merit it

BlueEyeshadow · 24/06/2013 15:52

Slept very badly for some reason last night and then had wasted trip out this morning which left me feeling very bleugh and CBA. Consequently, house bleugh hasn't got done.

I have decided to head back to MFP though. Got bored with logging all my meals but think I need it at the moment to help me keep track of things and stop the snacking.

CHBitchy · 24/06/2013 17:14

laurenamium · 24/06/2013 19:08

Trazzletoes · 24/06/2013 19:53

Oh lauren I had that over Christmas. OUCH!

pushmepullyou · 24/06/2013 22:01

Evening everyone Smile

Still feeling a bit rubbish with a throat and ear infection and temp, plus have the meal planning and online shop to do before bed. Only 4 more sleeps until we go on holiday - Hooray!!, but 3 horrendous work deadlines before then - not so good!

Very nice to have just and lauren back Smile. Hope you are OK trazzles have been thinking about you today x

whoknows I have those mornings all the time. So frustrating particularly when you know as you're saying something that you're setting yourself up for 10 minutes of bad tempered grumping (at best Grin ). Hope all has settled a bit in the toffeehousehold.

sorry to hear of all the spotty DC, mine haven't had cp yet, but it is clearly only a matter of time! Hand foot and mouth sounds horrible though. Fingers crossed it won't last too long (and that you don't get it lauren )

Big waves and wingflaps to sc, bitchy, asheth, blue, castle (good to have you back too Smile ), swan (roll on the end of term!), jdub, goth and ellie.

Back in a minute with the links....

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 24/06/2013 22:41

So sorry for those of you with infections Sad. Foot and mouth sounds awful (am lucky - have never had it ).

Sympathies, Swan, on getting your DC to FT. The few people I know who are going/have been to FT have absolutely hated it!

Have done the bare minimum of Flying today Blush.

Am dosing ToffeeKitten with antibiotics and hoping it helps his poorly tum.

Off to bed early tonight. Night all.

BlueEyeshadow · 24/06/2013 22:53

Getting quite excited - have been looking at getting myself a new bike this evening and found something I like the look of for a reasonable price. Can hopefully cut down car use and help with exercise at the same time. Esp. if lugging DS2 about in a bucket seat on the back. :)

Must do some work and house bleugh tomorrow. Will hopefully come back with a ta-da list.

Get well soon to poorly people and paws crossed for Toffeekitten. Night all.

pushmepullyou · 24/06/2013 22:56

Sorry all my broadband is misbehaving so I can't post the links (only got my phone and can't work out what to do). Please could someone post them on my behalf if there's anyone about? I'll do them in the morning if not Smile

OP posts:
superfluouscurves · 25/06/2013 07:33

Have a good day everyone!!
_

superfluouscurves · 25/06/2013 07:51

Right, dd is off to sports day with baby-sitting coverage for tonight (which she is understandably unhappy about but dh is away so can't be helped unfortunately). Rabbits are taken care of. I'm off to local hospital clinic for the day (nothing remotely serious). Am unusually well organised this morning because woke up at about 4.30 am and couldn't get back to sleep, so gave up (had to be up before 6am anyway) and did a load of things around the house instead.

Rather enlightening to see life from the viewpoint of a calm, organised, too-early person for a change Grin

OOohhh new bike does sound exciting Blue !! I hope you get the one you want. (I'm desperate to swap my half town/half mountain bike number which manages to be too small and too heavy at the same time for a sleek, light aluminium Dutch model such as the ones they use on the Flemish coast -they are like riding on air - but £££££££ so can't justify cost atm.)

Hope you feel better soon Pushme and holiday prep not too onerous

Sorry to hear you are in quarantine Lauren! Hope your dd recovers soon.

Hope all of you who are dealing with clingy toddlers, poorly animals and poorly children manage to get through the day OK

'See you' all at the weekend!

Brew Brew Brew on naughty corner bar!

superfluouscurves · 25/06/2013 08:12

Oh and good luck with work deadlines too Pushme!

Jdub · 25/06/2013 09:58

Good morning everyone!
A good dart to the working day as I managed to get a parking place! Must start cycling again now that kid drop off/pick ups will be back to the norm from tomorrow when my eldest ds returns to school chicken pox-free. So many of his class mates have been dropping like flies,it's just a good thing their class photo was last term, and that they should all be well for the fun things at the end of this term!

done
mega filing session
dw emptied

to do
dusting
mealplan
bank
order party bag stuff
have a quick stealth toy sort!

Have a good day xx

ToffeeWhirl · 25/06/2013 10:16

Blue - very exciting about the new bike. Our next-door neighbour goes cycling every day - he is hooked. It cheers him up and he has lost loads of weight into the bargain.

SC - good luck with your op today. We will miss your posts whilst you're gone.

pushme - hope you are feeling better this morning and that you manage those work deadlines ok.

Jdub - I like the idea of a stealth toy sort...

Swan - it is ironic, isn't it, that DS1 couldn't go to his appointment about anxiety because he was too anxious Grin? The CBT therapist is used to it, though, and we had quite a productive session.

Am spending the next week preparing DS1 for his 'insight week' at the new school. The CBT therapist felt that we'd done the gradual introduction in the right way and that he needs to attempt the week, even though it will be frightening for him. This morning, DS1 was arguing that he needed another week to prepare, but I said that would make no difference. At some point, he just has to bite the bullet and do the thing he's terrified of.

ToffeeKitten is a bit brighter today and was very hungry at breakfast time. Am hoping to take him outside for his first experience of the outdoors today, as it's a beautiful, calm, sunny day here.

ToffeeWhirl · 25/06/2013 10:17

Have just realised that I haven't included a single bit of Flying on my entry Blush.

laurenamium · 25/06/2013 11:09

Morning! Just a quick list dump, I will be back later to catch up properly!

I did today's mission as part of yesterday's home bleurgh...

To do:
Farm for horse dentist- done
Cut grass
Start digging out flower beds
Hoover
Wash up- shine sink
Clean bathroom
Kitchen hotspot

BBL!

laurenamium · 25/06/2013 11:10

Oh almost forgot! I'm going riding later too Grin

Swanhilda · 25/06/2013 12:16

Toffee ooh kittens love the outdoors, all those moving wisps of greenery, flies to chase, things to sniff. Hope he enjoys it, from security of your careful gaze.
Re: anxiety and confronting fears; I think if you can persuade ds that he is being v brave to do even smallest thing it will help him. I find that with driving, if I can tell myself how clever it was of me to drive somewhere I didn't want to drive, rather than beat myself up that everyone else would have managed it, it gives me further incentives. This is one of things I am realising from CBT, not turning anxiety into nothing, but just facing it little by little and acknowledging how bad it makes it feel you, but then moving forward.

On that note I insisted ds1 went to Sports Day because I sensed he was getting more and more worked up about it and it was better for him to go, be bored and fed up/or feel left out, and have it over with than endlessly mull over it and refuse to go creating a bigger and bigger problem in his mind for ever and ever. I think he was relieved to be told he had to go, but I drove him there to make sure it was even easier!!! And gave him two packed lunches...because last year he was apparently so bored and disconsolate that he ate it at 10.30...because "there was nothing else to do". I mentioned to PE department he really wanted to participate, but it turned out that he did want to participate, but not to come last Confused which was probably an impossible object. I can't solve that one!!!

done
half of Primary Sports Day. (dd came last in her sprint - no surprise, but she suffers from friends who are extremely good runners, so has given up bothering) Ds2 didn't do much - in fact I am hoping he saving his strength for the 500 m. Last year he was second last out of 15, Deo gratias he will be in last five not last two. Fun chatting to other parents in sun Smile

SC hope today is a bit of a break from looking after everything, despite the circs. Good luck with dd's hurt feelings but there is nothing you can do.

Swanhilda · 25/06/2013 12:19

done
oh, forgot,
two packed lunches
drove ds1 to school
drove dd's fete stuff to school
visited friend for coffee
Sports Day x half.

Swanhilda · 25/06/2013 12:22

final post Blush
I've stopped low carbing at beginning of day because it was backfiring and I was eating too much cheese and salami!!! So my weight is still going down, but I'm hoping I am now out of habit of snacking and keep to regular meals which include small amount of carbs, such as whole grain. I am very nervous of cakes and biscuits though, and white bread/pizza/pasta, they are off list forever

CHBitchy · 25/06/2013 12:33

I love the fact that this thread has multiple postings from people and that it is the norm Grin

Afternoon.

Not having a very productive day flying wise. Early training again today but no where near as early as yesterday. thank fuck was a much gentler training session too. Have just had a compulsory sit and potter on the internet rest for the last hour and half and about to go get on and do some stuff now.

Yay for new horses
Boo for chicken pox and hand foot mouth. HFM is surprisingly common but most people don't know about it or the fact it is highly contagious.
Yay for weight lose achievements

Right to stop procrastinating...

To do: laundry, my room, the car

ToffeeWhirl · 25/06/2013 12:36

I hope your DS's sports day works out ok for him, Swan. That's sweet of you to pack him two packed lunches Smile.

ToffeeKitten loved the outdoors. He spent ages just sniffing the air, then nibbled some grass, then did some tentative exploring. It really perked him up for a little while, though he is fast asleep again now (on my lap).

Managed to get DS1 out for a walk in the sunshine and chatted about the new school. He just gets very angry with me when I try to discuss it though and keeps saying I don't understand anything. I agree with you, Swan, that he needs to focus on what he has achieved, not what everyone else can do. A bit like Flylady - focus on what you've done, not what you haven't done.

Speaking of which, I still haven't done a single piece of housework this morning. About to start some home ed with DS1 now, so I expect the plates will stay in the sink till after the school run now Blush.
