Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Evening all,

Sorry to hear things got worse Trazzles, PMPY is right, you have so much going on that mistakes like this are not surprising, I am sure your friends will understand. I'm glad DH was understanding.

PMPY your post earlier about having to do the entire organisation of your household REALLY struck a chord with me. DH does his fair share of housework, but leaves the entire administration of the house to me (shopping, meal planning, holidays, house maintenance, car maintenance, DCs school, healthcare, activities, clothing, virtually all the financial stuff), it is very wearing. OTOH he has a far more responsible and complex job than me so I try to bear that in mind.

Anyway, a busy day today. Dress rehearsal for DD's ballet show. I'm a volunteer chaperone backstage, never done it before and I was very glad I was paired up with a friend who has done. Hair, make-up, costumes and general welfare for an excitable bunch of 6 year olds. Hmmm. Anyway it went fine in the end. My hairdressing skills are coming along nicely, DD has been growing her hair long this year (for the first time) and is loving having plaits, buns etc done.

Not much Flying, we've kept on top of things but that's about it.

Jamillalliamilli · 24/06/2013 00:08

Dropped of the thread as things got too much to cope with here and the decision to let go of the housework was kind of a fait accompli between silly amounts of revision and exams, and body not working followed by a bad fall when I tried to force it to, and SS sniffing around as a result of having to both go to A+E and refuse to stay in.

Anyway we?re through the worst of it all, so running out of excuses to procrastinate, last exam was Friday and we?ve spent the weekend trying to collect the huge number of books on hire to try and get as many as possible back and reduce that bill, and find all the library books that won?t be needed for the next leg and get shot of them, and see if that shows up the two missing ones, or if we have to pay for them, (It would be expensive one?s wouldn?t it) then try and work out what the biggest priorities are among all the things allowed to fall by the wayside for the last couple of weeks and how to find some sort of routine.

I?ve just caught up the thread and Trazzles if that?s the worst thing you manage to forget, or not do, during all your years as a wife and mother, you?ll honestly be fine. It?s just stress and overload, and you don?t need an excuse, life is what it is and we all do the best with what we?re handed.

Bitchy wise words there. (try ?appeal for voluntary maintenance of statement? for maximum effect.)

Toffee very sorry about kitten.

waves to everyone else apologetically but better go to bed.

CHBitchy · 24/06/2013 00:44

Nice to see you Just, you have some wise words yourself.

CHBitchy · 24/06/2013 04:03

This no over night water crap is beginning to get on my tits. Wish they would bloody finish up the work now. I want to put a load of washing on. It would be so convenient could manage to get a quick wash and a proper load done before needing to leave at 5am. I suppose I should do something else productive but that takes more effort and time

MercuryRising · 24/06/2013 05:27

Morning. I also only change beds fortnightly (sometimes less Blush ) Like someone else said it is just too difficult to get the sheets dry.

My plan today is:
Pile of ironing
Dw
Washload
Put away laundry
Home bleurgh
Ss
Swim
Collect letter from post office ( hopefully, I had forgotten all about it!)
Coffee with friend
Food shop
Dd to dancing
Clean out gp
Mission
5m hotspot microwave

That is more than enough to be getting on with. Have a great day Smile

DorisShutt · 24/06/2013 06:54

Fortnightly beds here too; barring anything requiring it changed earlier - DS is a snot monster at the moment, so I'm doing his every few days Hmm to try to cope with it. Our bed will be pushed out to Blush 18 days so that I do it the day we leave so it's lovely and fresh for coming home. -Technically I should be doing it on Thursday/Friday, but I'm out with DS for most of the week, so it'll have to wait - maybe will manage it earlier, but not going to stress about it!

In the office today, so not much flying to be done. DH has decided to shower first, so is currently running late which will made me late. Angry And the car is going in for a service today so it's all a bit argh!

Oooh! And my cleaning prowess continued and I decluttered the top shelf of my wardrobe. I've got rid of 6 handbags that I don't need. They're now sitting in a box in the dining room to be carbooted once we're back off holiday - but I've warned DH that unless they are gone (or the sale booked) buy the end of August, then they are going to the charity shop.

Right, off for a shower! Brew on the bar as usual!

elliepac · 24/06/2013 07:40

superfluouscurves · 24/06/2013 08:49

Morning all. Hope everyone surviving.

Trazzles ditto what everyone else has said about Christening. You are coping amazingly, brilliantly well under impossible circs and we all admire you for it. Sorry to hear about your dad too x

Pushme sorry you are dealing with clingy toddler too and sorry to hear that your anniversary dinner arrangements aren't as hoped. I can understand you feeling upset about having to micro-manage all the details. Hope it works out ok in the end ...Flowers

Sympathies too Whoknows for having to manage lion's share of everything. (I've also been learning how to plait hair for the first time! Got quite good at ballet buns but no longer necessary now [sniff] Think you are very brave to volunteer behind the scenes ...)

Ellie your weekend by the coast sounds lovely! Have a good week at work.

Doris well done for getting rid of the handbags

Good to see you Just Congrats for surviving exam season!! Hope you find the books.

Mercury kite flying sounds fab!!

Top marks to your dh Asheth hope you have now unravelled the aftermath!

Hope you have recovered from what sounds like a demanding weekend Swan

And finally, ditto what Goth said about all of you who are juggling demanding jobs, Flying, dc (some with special needs) diets, training, studying etc. It is amazing how you all cope.

Huge waves to Toffee Blue Feetheart Engels Lilleth and eveyrone else

superfluouscurves · 24/06/2013 08:50

now I need to get dressed and count money for local organisation till 1pm!
escape from housework

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/06/2013 09:04

Morning,

Parenting fail this morning, the DCs are driving me mad at the moment. DD refused point blank to come and get dressed "because she was busy", which escalated into us shouting up and down the stairs at each other but was resolved, however I was grumpy by then and made the EPIC mistake of yelling "who left this here" when I found a large toy blocking the hall door. Not actually meaning "who left it there" but "whoever left it there shouldn't have done and please don't do it again". Unfortunately the DCs took it literally and had a massive row about who actually had left it there and we all ended up yelling at each other till we were out the door Blush.

Onwards. Morning routine to finish, then pilates, work, shopping, school run. See you later.

Swanhilda · 24/06/2013 09:16

Whoknows I know you won't want to hear this, but you made me laugh! "large toy blocking front door" just about sums up the frustrations of having delightful lively family [ho hum]. And also the way children mimic us when they say they can't do something or other because they are "busy".

I am admiration of you fitting in Pilates today as well as everything else.

I am now feeling fed up of low carbing! Too much cheese is giving me bad dreams Hmm I need to find some primeval grains to sustain me...
for breakfast I've had peaches and yoghurt, followed by manchego, which really can't be good for the figure unless there is something truly alchemical about this system...

superfluouscurves · 24/06/2013 09:22

Quite a nice weekend in the end. Dh survived the zoo alone with dd and friend and (being tall and not exactly slim) managed to sway the elevated "monkey walk" so vigorously that he was asked to get off it by a member of the zoo staff Grin

I saw my friends at concert in lovely medieval church so had an easier time I think and then felt guilty so rushed home and prepped pork roast dinner with all the trimmings for their return. Also managed to clean out rabbits, clear dining room table hot spots, wash and iron school uniform, polish shoes, translated five e-mails and wrote a long list of things I need to do before going to Blighty mid July for main holiday (we are going away before then but quick trips within continent) which contains 62 items (only 3 of which I have completed) and oh no, I?ve just thought of a 63rd!! Yikes!

Today
Dh has flown off for another week, dh has started her last week at school (she finishes for the summer on Friday lunch-time) and I?m preparing to have second part of very boring, standard medical procedure tomorrow + will need one recovery day. This doesn?t leave much time !!

Ta da:
morning routine inc rabbits, s&s, dw and wm
did emergency on-line grocery order (had somehow managed to run out of loo rolls and demineralised ironing water)

To do:
on-line parcel rtns
put clean clothes away
recycling day
double check and send translated e-mails
boudoir
lemon drizzle cake?
school run
start putting together teacher ?thank you? cards + presents with help of dd

Used to change our sheets weekly here (family job on a Saturday) but have been getting very slack of late ...

Two Body Clutter questions:

  1. Owing to stress of exam week, managed to put back on the kilo I had lost Blush so trying to go carefully now. Does a banana sandwich really contain 445 calories? This is what I had for brkfast yesterday, logged it on MFP and I am shocked!! Don?t understand - thought two pieces of wholemeal bread + banana (no butter) would be about half that!!
  2. Can you put weight on your feet? Very few of my summer shoes from last year seem to fit Blush

Have a good day everyone!

superfluouscurves · 24/06/2013 09:24

[Sorry those last two questions extremely trivial compared with what eveyrone else is dealing with on here]

CHBitchy · 24/06/2013 09:58

Bananas are high in calories because it contains short and long term (basic and complex) sugars. Bread can be very high in calories.
And yes, unfortunately you can put weight on on your feet

ta da
swipe bathroom
30mins on my bedroom
3 hours training
Sort out plan for next step wrt training
Put a load of washing on.
Stop at shop and replace the chocolates that I bought for ds yesterday that I ate yesterday Blush

Am off for a nap as not sleeping last night has finally caught up with me Hmm

superfluouscurves · 24/06/2013 10:06

Thanks Bitchy ... that explains a lot!! Blush

[think I would be off to bed for a week after a 3 hr training session - have a good one]

Jdub · 24/06/2013 10:35

Good morning everyone,
It's Monday, so that means I can start off the week with good intentions!!
The chicken pox has almost run its course - lovely (but at least it hasn't spoilt the end of term fun or the summer hols.

done
prepped dinner for tonight with accurate instructions forth to follow!
emptied dw
beds done

to do
filing
clean washing away

That'll do for starters!
Have a happy Monday x

ToffeeWhirl · 24/06/2013 10:42

Morning all. Stress levels far too high in the Toffee household this morning. DM has retreated into DS2's bedroom to tidy it up and I am about to take DS1 to his CBT appointment. Think we all need it at the moment.

Kitten still has a dodgy tum, but is enjoying small amounts of roast chicken Smile.

GoingGoingGoth · 24/06/2013 11:28

Morning all, not as stressful a morning as some, but we didn't wake up until 8:50!Blush
Much hilarity from school receptionist when I rang to explain we'd be a bit late. Managed to get DD ready, including packed lunch and breakfast, and to school for 9:30 (and we weren't last)

Adrenaline rush over, but still had a fairly productive morning, thank god I did last week's weekly bleugh on Friday instead of delaying it until today!

Done
Dd to school
Beds
S&S
Laundry in machine
Washing up
2 loads laundry hung out
Cat litter tray
Bins & recycling out
Fed sourdough mix (started one yesterday, thought I'd give it a go)

To do
Vacuum
Help at school with library trip -all afternoon
Bring DD home
Go to our library
Dinner
Wash up & SS

elliepac · 24/06/2013 12:40

sc a slice of bread can contain anything up to 150 calories as can a banana depending on size etc.

And chb is right you can put weight on your feet. I was only commenting the other day that my toes had got skinnier.

ToffeeWhirl · 24/06/2013 12:44

DS1 couldn't make it to his CBT appointment this morning, but I was able to go and have a discussion about things myself. The therapist has given me good advice about managing his insight week at school next week.

DM left as soon as I arrived home. I'm afraid she hasn't found it very relaxing here and will probably be very happy to be back in her own home again! She did a great job tidying up DS2's bedroom this morning.

Phoned vet, who has prescribed antibiotics and probiotic paste for the kitten's tum. He has also said he'll chat to DS1 about the prognosis if DS1 would like that.

Am now having a much-needed cup of tea and cuddling the kitten.

Goth - that is hilariously late! When I was pregnant with DS2 and very tired, I once slept through the afternoon school run and didn't wake up till 4pm when the school receptionist rang me (I should have left at 3) Shock. I found DS1 happily reading a 'Star Wars' comic in the school office, not in the slightest bit concerned.

ToffeeWhirl · 24/06/2013 12:47

SC - just seen that you have a list of 63 things to do - argh! Am laughing at the image of your poor DH being asked to step off the bridge!

laurenamium · 24/06/2013 13:20

Sneaks in and pretends she never left!

Sorry for going AWOL everyone! Waves to old and new flyers! Smile I think it's about time I came back! My house is slowly declining and although its not cluttered or anything it definitely needs everyone's encouragement to get it as sparkly as it was! And besides, I missed everyone! Sorry for going AWOL! I had a lot on my plate and just needed an MN sabbatical! DD has chicken pox so I'm off work and now is as good a time as any to get back to it!

For those that remember me I have another horse Shock so there will be random trips to stables in to do lists!

So...

Ta da:
Washing *2
Drying *1
Washing up
My laundry away
Food shop

To do:
Stables for weigh bridge
Clean kitchen floor
Shine sink
Counter tops
Find mission and do it
Home bleurgh

Off to catch up on the thread Smile

ToffeeWhirl · 24/06/2013 13:23

Welcome back, Lauren. Congrats on the new horse. Sorry your DD has chickenpox. There have been several posters with chicken-pox-infected children recently - it must be chickenpox season Confused.
