Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

I'm home from work now so prepping a shopping list for DM, washing is on.

Need to put away last week(!)'s washing.
Buy Euromillions ticket
Start clearing playroom(! - mammoth task)
Collect DD from nursery
Shred
Iron shirt for work tomorrow
Review boss's files for work tomorrow sometimes I wonder whether he thinks I just don't do anything when I'm not in work

Jamillalliamilli · 25/06/2013 15:10

Wobbles in and tries to focus on something I have done. (other than grind to a sudden halt!)
What I haven?t done is murdered anyone, so I may have to focus on that as my plus.

Wishes SC a day of some sort of rest and everyone with unwell children and animals, respite.

Hang on in there Toffee and remember generally it's the people they can trust to still be there afterwards, that get the brunt of the anger.

Exams have finished and it?s resulted in non-stop, high speed, random train of thought gabbling by ds, and much ferocity if I try to plead for breaks to try and think or do anything in.
About to go shopping a long way away, in the hope that a long drive up the motorway might calm things down and avoid a huge meltdown and try and plan something.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/06/2013 15:51

Afternoon all,

Didn't get round to posting last night but I must mention that after school yesterday I emptied and cleaned out the fridge (completely, all shelves and walls washed and put back, all out of date jars removed and disposed of). It took about an hour, but was very satisfying as it had got quite bad Blush. I also sent the DCs to bed early following bad behaviour and they were so shocked that they behaved beautifully while getting ready for bed etc. Plus I got a longer evening. Bargain.

Today I have been at work all day, and have got ballet and Cubs tonight so less likely to be productive.

Sports Day angst here too, DH isn't allowed to compete (my decision) as he still has a cast on his arm and I don't want to risk him falling, but he's not happy. He announced that he managed to throw a hammer 27 metres in PE this afternoon so it is obviously getting easier for him to manage every day life.

Toffee - next door to us have a new kitten, he's been allowed out now for about a fortnight and is very keen on exploring our garden probably because ours is full of crap and theirs is like something out Grand Designs, all neat, tidy and generally boring. He is fascinated by DS's goal nets and keeps trying to stick his paw through the mesh. DD is really falling for him. He also keeps coming into the house but we are being very firm and putting him straight back out again, don't want to get in that habit. Glad Toffeekitten enjoyed his first outing.

ToffeeWhirl · 25/06/2013 16:06

WhoKnows - glad your DH is doing so well in PE Wink.

Next-door's kitten sounds adorable - and you get all the best bits without the vet bills. Bargain!

Just - thank goodness exams are over for your DS (and therefore you), but sorry you are dealing with the fallout. Well done for focusing on the positive (not murdering anyone - very good!).

That's a good point about the people DC trust getting the brunt of the anger, but am getting so worn out with it!

Trazzle - I am always putting away the previous week's washing, don't worry. I still have a long way to go before I become a proper Flylady. Hope that Euromillion ticket is lucky for you.

Managed some home ed with DS1, then he said he was too tired to do anymore and went off to lie down with the kitten. Getting up at 6am might have something to do with that. Am going to have to work on changing his bedtime before his week at school next week or he's going to be nodding off in lessons.

I may also have had a short nap myself Hmm.

I have done the washing up. That's it for my Flying so far today.

Lots of cuddles for poorly kitten take priority.

CHBitchy · 25/06/2013 17:41

The only washing I have to put away is the load that I folded this morning. I will have the two loads that are currently in progress. I am finding this do things as you go thing is getting surprisingly easy Shock

ta da
2 hours on my room with only pulling out as much as I can manage Shock
3rd load of washing is on - but I have another to loads I need to do tonight because I am working my way through washing the pillows.
Wash the pots and load the dish washer
throw out dead stuff from the fridge
5mins weeding because the weeds looked at me funny
file a few certificates in the correct folder
take out the recycling
sweep what floor is now accessible in my room
water plants
air ds' room
training
pick up meds
sort out ds having a friend to visit. (although need to sort another one out too)

It has been a gently productive day. Although wasn't brave enough to tackle my car and still haven't tackled my paperwork. Need to do both of those tomo. Especially some paperwork

CHBitchy · 25/06/2013 18:43

Ds is over tired because he refused to go to sleep last night. I am feeling incredibly cross and unsympathetic at his tempers.

BlueEyeshadow · 25/06/2013 21:40

Sympathies, Bitchy. DS1 has been sleeping badly lately and it just makes everything else so much worse, doesn't it...? Gently productive sounds good though.

Got laundry sorted out and various bits of work and admin done. Also hoovered downstairs. Unfortunately, my friend who babysits on Tuesdays is ill so wishing I'd done less flying and more work this morning instead of vice versa. Will have to go and finish it off in a mo. Hoping to go out and buy a bike tomorrow morning. :)

Sorry to hear about all the school/sports day etc angst flying about - hope it settles soon.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/06/2013 22:24

Evening all,

Welcome back to Lauren - I've been wondering where you had got to. Sympathie re quarantine, we haven't had anything infectious for a while but it is a PITA.

Also welcome back to Just - hope the long car journey had the desired calming effect.

SC - hope whatever it was you had today went well.

Well, today turned out ore productive than predicted. We had our letter telling us our (compulsory) water meter is being installed next week. Dh arrived home form work fairly early and it was a nice evening so we got out the pressure washer to clean up the drive while we've still got unmetered water (block paving untouched apart from shovelling snow and leaves for 12 years). I also bought a special wire brush to dig out all the moss and grass from the cracks. My goodness did we dislodge a lot of crap! We swept up one bin bag fuil of dust and dead leaf crumbs before starting and will have another one to fill tomorrow I think (we have left it to dry and will sweep it all up tomorrow and then have a second run over it as I'm sure we missed bits). It looks dreadful tonight (my friend and all the other Cubs that walk home with DS recoiled in horror). But it will look beautiful and I will have used several hundred calories hopefully.

I have also been getting DS ready for his first cub camp at the weekend, I have bought a cheap self inflating mat and got his sleeping bag out of the loft, he is sleeping in it all on his bedroom floor. He has outgrown the sleeping bag, so that's on the to-do list for tomorrow, get another one form somewhere.

pushmepullyou · 25/06/2013 22:36

Links before chat tonight lest I lose the will Wink

Here are the links for the 26th June

The babystep is another emaily one, so you might want to skip it unless you're a fan.

Day 3 in zone 5 and the mission is dusting your neglected corners.

The flight plan is here

The daily focus for Wednesday is the antiprocrastination day. I could genuinely spend an hour doing the house bleurgh tasks in each room blush

I'vee roped DH in for a fascinating water fact this evening and he has drawn my attention to the kangaroo rat who has a particularly large loop of henle (part of the kidney), which means it needs virtually no drinking water Hmm. We, however are not kangaroo rats and should be drinking 2 litres per day. Allegedly.

Trazzletoes · 25/06/2013 23:03

Gah! I only managed 2 things off my list! Fortunately 1 was to get DD from nursery...

Mostly though because we needed a supermarket trip this afternoon and DM said she would go and then faffed til 4pm - the absolute latest she can go and still be back in time for me to get DD without taking Joe with me - took one look at my list and declared that as I needed fish she couldn't possibly go and I'd have to do it. Hmm

I was not best pleased.

Tomorrow I'm out in the evening (yippee!) so no flying but I live in hope that the kitchen will stay clean. Ish. That at least has been achieved this evening.

Swanhilda · 25/06/2013 23:08

Disastrous Sports Day for Ds1, he was in tears of frustration when he came home and said he had hoped against hope that they might include him in the 1500 m but was told he was not on the list Sad and had AGAIN sat all day for 6 hours in boiling sun doing NOTHING. I was so angry I rang up the PE dept and complained, probably a mistake to talk to a tired frazzled head of PE straight after a big Sports Day. Still, I think the simmering resentment was best expressed Hmm

We are not an athletic family evidently, as ds2 came LAST in 500m and dd a graceful 4th last, but they did lots of other participating so they were in good spirits generally. Both are a bit chastened and prepared to do a bit more general "training" - as I pointed out, being good at running is not a magical power.

done
visit to dd's Secondary Meeting which is miles away, on bus
recovered from Sports Day

otherwise nothing, except eat bolognese sauce...
suppose I have walked miles Grin

Swanhilda · 25/06/2013 23:16

Incidentally I met another mother at secondary meeting whose son went to same secondary as mine (her daughter will be at same girls' school in Sept) and she too had had bored/saddish (although I suspect he was a bit more phlegmatic) son coming home after day doing nothing at Sports Day. I asked her if she was complaining, and she said rather shamefacedly she had just complained recently about something else, so felt it better to keep quiet this time Grin Oh dear, what a nightmare it is communicating with these schools!!!!

Toffee aah, they love eating grass, it is a tonic for them.
Lauren hi and to new horsey
Whoknows Dh is enjoying the snapdragons which have seeded themselves in our block paving (patio area) He keep saying it is going to be a paradise of wildflowers soon Grin
Just well done on getting to end of exams, that is a feat
Trazzles hi

Swanhilda · 25/06/2013 23:18

Bitchy yes you have to be the right mood to weed, sometimes they appear to be dear little things...

pushmepullyou · 25/06/2013 23:21

Right then I think I'll brave a roundup tonight Smile

sc very helpfully posted the links for me this morning due to the combined failures of me and my broadband Blush. Thank you very much! She has had a minor medical procedure today and is most likely resting as she was up at 4:30 this morning Shock. Hope ou are feeling OK sc Flowers

jdub's DS is recovered from the pox and will be back at school tomorrow, when she's planning a stealth toy sort Grin

toffee has had a day of much kitten cuddling. Toffee kitten has experienced the outside world for the first time and her DS is getting ready for his insight week at his new school. She has also done the washing up.

lauren flew by with a quick list and is ahead of the game having done today's mission yesterday

swan's DC have had their school sports day. Hope it has gone OK for your DS swan Smile. Not being absolutely last has always been my sports goal (rarely achieved) so I sympathise!

Trazzles has been at work and buying a euromillions ticket (perhaps in the hope of escaping her boss?)

just hasn't murdered anyone, which is a good start to any day. Her DS's exams are finished and he is conequently very chatty Smile

Bitchy has a modest list by her standards, but a pretty impressive one by mine Wink.

whoknows' DS (or possibly DH!) is disappointed at not being able to compete in sports day, and they are at risk of acquiring a stealth kitten. They're the best kind!

blue has had a productive day flying, and is planning to buy a bike.

I woke up with a migraine this morning which gradually got worse over the course of the morning then suddenly disappeared about 2pm leaving me feeling much better than I have for about 4 days. So that's a relief Smile. Not much flying done I have to admit, but the house status quo has been largely maintained, which is good enough for today Smile

Still need to do all packing and much washing before going on holiday (yippee!). Plus all the work in the world, but meh, tomorrow is another day. Also I have put that bloody pound back on. God knows how as I seem to barely eat anything at the moment.

I can't remember whether anyone has volunteered for the July thread yet? If not can I tempt you with the revelation that my house is noticably much cleaner and tidier this month as the babysteps and missions are much harder to ignore Grin

OP posts:
pushmepullyou · 25/06/2013 23:23

X-post swan. Sorry your DS had a rubbish day Sad. I think it's really poor behaviour by the school to not include him in anything. I would have compained too.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/06/2013 23:36

It was DS Smile.

That is shit quite frankly Swan - I'd have complained too.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/06/2013 23:38

As for thread leading, i'm away for a good chunk of each of July and Aug, but am happy to put myself forward for Sept.

elliepac · 26/06/2013 06:37

Morning allSmile. Busy day yesterday so didn't get round to posting. Even if I had I would have had very little to post so maybe it's a good thingWinkGrin.

Welcome back lauren Smile and just.

As far as thread leading is concerned I am more than happy to do July. Can't do august as am away a fair bit and will need someone to step in in the last week for a couple of days as am going to the wilds of North Wales but other than that it's about time I took my turnSmile.

Have a good day everyone!

ToffeeWhirl · 26/06/2013 07:48

That's really awful, Swan, and it's good that you rang up and told the PE teacher. Probably also good for your DS to know that you have taken a stand on his behalf. Poor boy.

Really sorry, but just can't handle thread leading at the moment. Too much going on to be able to commit to anything. But Blue is right - thread leading does make you notice the Flylady routines and therefore you are more likely to put them into action.

DS1 and I slept downstairs with ToffeeKitten last night and actually I had a really good night's sleep, apart from having to feed kitty at 4am. I can't tell you how sweet it was to see kitty's head on the pillow between us. I'm afraid DH is going to be on his own at night for now which is just as well as he is coughing and spluttering all night from the high pollen count.

Kitty seems quite bright this morning and is still hungry. Am hoping the antibiotics have given him a much-needed reprieve.

Main aim today is to get DS1 out in the fresh air and get him to do some home ed. He needs to practise stuff before his insight week at school.

Will try and get basic Flying routines done today too.

Hope you all have a good day.

CHBitchy · 26/06/2013 09:39

If Ellie does July, bitchy does August and Whoknows does Sept then we are pretty much organised.

Happy to do august as I am not going away but equally not got ds much as he is going away.

feeling a bit bleurgh today and really cba. So pretty much standard for anti-procrastination day then Wink

I need more coffee before I can get going this morning.

laurenamium · 26/06/2013 09:39

Ill volunteer to lead August...it'll help me get back in the routine of keeping up with what everyone else is doing and stop me being too lazy to turn on my laptop!

I finished my list yesterday Grin even washed the shower curtains and put them back up!

To do:
Look up today's mission
Hoover
Put some paperwork away
Tidy front room hotspot
My bedroom hotspot
Wash up/ shine sink
My washing/ drying and away

Ill BBL for a proper catch up and ta da list later tonight

laurenamium · 26/06/2013 09:40

Cross post with bitchy! Ill volunteer November, I'm away in October Grin

CHBitchy · 26/06/2013 09:47

Lauren August is the thread birthday thread gotten be done with a big party!!!! WinkGrin

laurenamium · 26/06/2013 10:02

Haha you're best of in charge in that case! I would probably forget!

BlueEyeshadow · 26/06/2013 10:54

Morning all. Currently enjoying a Brew and free wifi in the café of a certain well known bookshop chain while waiting for new bike to be set up! Grin

Wow, such organisation with thread leading for the next few months!

Sorry your DS had such a frustrating time again, swan - well done for complaining.
