Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Asheth seriously it will change your life! I laughed when it was suggested I may be DD. er, there's nothing there! But a proper back size and some scooping and bobs your uncle!

Trazzletoes · 16/06/2013 09:18

over here Asheth!

elliepac · 16/06/2013 10:00

Morning allSmile.

Planning on a very lazy day today as it is the first weekend day in ages where I do not have to be anywhere. Father's Day has been cooked and eaten although I resisted and just had a bacon sandwich .

To do:-
Clear up from breakfast
Prep veggies for Roast Beef dinner
Washing
Putting away
Watch the tennis
Cook dinner

That will do for today I think.

Have a lovely family fun/father's day everyoneSmile.

CHBitchy · 16/06/2013 11:13

I have woken fully rested and with a bit of energy today. it is such a nice feeling after having been suffering burn out all last week. Am about to grab a shower and then might do a few things before collecting ds from his dad.

Engelsemama · 16/06/2013 14:14

I have been rubbish at flying and keeping up with thread but what the hell...

Ta da!
yesterday's washing folded
walk to playpark with ds and dh this morning
made dh a cake
had 2 glasses of wine and now feeling a leetle tipsy
Skype DM (before wine Blush )

I asked DH what he wanted to do today so it's been his choice of palypark/snooze in the afternoon while DS was napping (though I have been browsing MN instead!) and now mooch in front of TV.

We are now putting together the thing for the back door that so many Dutch people seem to have in the summer (fly curtain if that makes ANY sense to anyone).

I asked DH if he wanted to go down to see ILs at their caravan today for father's day and he sad no. Rather a relief to have the day to ourselves for a change.

I promise I WILL catch up later!

LillethTheCat · 16/06/2013 17:13

Flying has been minimalistic in the cat household this weekend, though I have been following the rules re family fun day yesterday and renewing my spirit da today.

Yesterday I took DS to Parkrun and it appears to be that he really wants to get into running so I will make that activity something we can do together.

I also helped DD1 to do some more of a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. For some unknown reason Santa thought it would be a good idea to get her one for christmas for us to do together. I dont know what he was thinking Grin

Today I took part in a 10K race and knocked 11 seconds off my PB so that was good. I have now just got out of a long bath and relaxing before my meal.

I have however done a bit of washing to keep on top of it and changed my bedding today.

Will be back later to catch up on the thread, have to go now as DD2 is wanting me.

LillethTheCat · 16/06/2013 17:14

renewing my spirit day today

elliepac · 16/06/2013 17:59

Evening allSmile.

List completed, kids creating havoc in garden, I'm watching tennis. Very relaxed day all in all. Still got the washing up from dinner to do and pudding to serve....jam roly poly mmmmmm(day off diet today!)

For the first time in years I am struggling this Father's Day and missing my dad, who died 13 years ago. Think it is a combination of the fact it would have been his birthday on Tuesday as well. Doesn't matter how much time passes, still miss him lots.

superfluouscurves · 16/06/2013 18:00

Good on you those who are having relaxing Sundays!! You deserve it!!

Glad you are feeling rested Bitchy

Glad you found the present Trazzles!

I'm just about surviving dd revision, washed school uniform, polished shoes, prepped roast chick for dinner plus baked spuds (very very easy in Lakeland equiv of chicken in a brick thing with lid (except it is enamel), just bung in garlic, onions, carrots and chick with herbs in, add bit of water, leave for 1hr 30 mins = done/delic). Apart from that, haven't done much.

Big wing flaps to all!

ToffeeWhirl · 16/06/2013 18:34

Sorry you are missing your dad, ellie. DH and I both feel a pang on Father's Day too (neither of us have our Dads anymore). It is always bittersweet.

Good to see so many of you are renewing your spirit today. Same here. Gave DH a long lie-in this morning, with card and present from the boys and breakfast in bed. Then proceeded to fall asleep for a couple of hours myself Blush. Don't know why I'm so tired today - maybe it's all that food yesterday.

However, I have spent an hour ironing this afternoon, so some Flying has taken place.

Asheth · 16/06/2013 19:19

Hope everyone's had a good weekend! Today I tidied sitting room (don't know why I bothered as it looks exactly the same a few hours later!) put clothes away so everyone should have enough socks for the week! And did more decluttering of DS3's room. This afternoon the weather eased and we took the DSs for some much needed energy releasing time in the park!

Very impressed with everyone's sock drawers and even sock bags! I have a sock pile or is that a mountain? Blush

Trazzle I took your advice and checked out that thread. And of course couldn't find a tape measure! But tried a probably very inaccurate method involving ribbon and a ruler and it certainly showed a very surprising result! Will have to find/borrow/buy a tape measure tomorrow and if that gives the same or even a similar result I will definitly be going bra shopping later in the week! Grin Boob may well be my uncle!

Thinking of everybody who's missing their Dads today.

Swanhilda · 16/06/2013 19:25

For some reason I'm fed up with Dh today, so it hasn't been a very good Father's Day...

I was just deep into decluttering our bedroom, finally getting to grips with all the dusty items he won't let me throw away and enjoying properly dealing with the problem, when he told me it was 7pm and what was for supper? Having told me he was taking Ds1 out to a film at 6pm...Confused Can't he organise supper for once???

He has now gone off to a pizzeria with ds.

Mum rang to tell me her London (rented to BIL) house had moth and could I possibly deal with it? Feel obscurely proud that so far I have managed to outwit the moths here, perhaps all that moving furniture around was a good idea, despite dh's being driven mad by my constant clearouts.

I do feel fed up today though, possibly backlash from the CBT session, detoxifying process????

done
managed to get ds1 to rewrite his Grand Canyon factfile and mention the word erosion, after procrastination and tears
a bag of rubbish downstairs
floor hoovered in bedroom
books dusted
toys moved to corner and covered with scenic draperies, as dh won't let me throw away the large Sylvanian stuff.

Swanhilda · 16/06/2013 19:27

The main thing about that bra size thread is that M & S are rubbish at measuring, and if you use their sizing as a guide you are wearing wrong size (which is me for last 20 years!)

MercuryRising · 16/06/2013 19:43

Hi ladies.

We have had a productive day in the Mercury household. I cooked the fathers day fry up. Then dp andI laid the new flooring in the bathroom and dp fitted the new bath panel. The bathroom is now looking fab!

I helped dcs with their homework and did a washload. We had dinner with my ddad which was very relaxed.

Dp is working away for the next two days so he won't be home until Wed which is Ds birthday. I am determined to spend the next two days getting the house under control.

So tomorrow I plan to:
-Home bleurgh
-Morning routine
-Swim
-Pile of ironing
-Laundry away
-Wash load
-Mission
-Clean car out
-Get last bits for ds birthday - cakes and banners
-Wrap Ds presents
-Sort out shoe cupboard
-Dd to dancing
-Collect Dds bike from dmums
-Coffee and gossip with friend.

Hopefully working through that lot should stop me missing dp.

Castlelough · 16/06/2013 19:43

So hungover today. Am in the naughty corner.I'm unlikely to budge from there. Sad

GoingGoingGoth · 16/06/2013 20:52

Am having a backwards weekend here, after a lazy renew spirit day yesterday, today would definately be a Family Fun Day, as we went to the Glasgow Mela.

Only got home around 7, after managing a quick shop at Morrisons on the way!

We have walked for hours and my feet hurt. Might get bus to work tomorrow.

Swanhilda · 16/06/2013 21:58

Boudoir is done! Hurrah! All books moved to a better position, loads of dusting, and two whole sacks of rubbish downstairs. Also managed to find room for sewing basket etc in cupboard and gardening books in another cupboard due to rejigging. So it looks a bit more peaceful and less like a warehouse up there now! Black Cat has made a beeline for the new white bedspread.

Energised by this finished room, I then managed to tidy kitchen in a few mins, whereas if I had bothered earlier I might have lost heart upstairs.

Low carbing still going well on the diet front, although I think I didn't have enough vegetables today. You do have to "cook"/prepare rather than snatch and run when you low carb!!!

Swanhilda · 16/06/2013 21:59

Dh and ds1 have had a lovely long walk back from Ealing Pizza so that all turned out alright, my booting them out!

pushmepullyou · 16/06/2013 22:30

Evening everyone smile. Hope Hope everyone is feeling refreshed and renewed Smile

Here are the links for the 17th June

The babystep is to set a bed time a stick to it. Not a universally successful step for the flybabies Grin

We're in a new zone for the new week, which is the master bedroom and the mission is getting rid of things that do not belong in your bedroom. So that won't take more than 15 minutes then Hmm

The flight plan is here and the daily focus for Monday is as always the house bleurgh.

Enjoy your water!

Thanks for links Pushme

Morning all

[props open eye lids with match sticks]

Bum! Have been awoke since 4 am and unable to go back to sleep. Anxious about dd exams and fil unwell again so half expecting emergency call in night which fortunately didn't arrive. Wierd weather/oppressive humidity here too.

[Think alternative clothing selection is in order. Oh gawd, I knew the moment would come when I would have to house wobbly bod in summer-weight material; not a pretty sight Blush Must, must get a grip re: diet. Had really good meals over the weekend; and seconds and thirds too Blush ]

Sympathies to those of you who are missing their fathers: mine died in June 10 yrs ago and I must confess to having felt a bit tearful this week.

Sorry - that's a very maudlin Monday morning message !

Positive stuff ... um....um...dd cleaned out rabbits practically unaided for first time ever yesterday.

Hope everyone has a good start to the week!

superfluouscurves · 17/06/2013 07:40

[Warning/apologies: self-indulgent hand-ringing 'me' 'me' 'me' post follows again - completely unrelated to Flying]

Sorry, second post of the day and it's only 8.15 am here.

Feeling sick on dd's behalf. She's just gone off to school looking white but have tried to keep atmosphere as light and non-pressured as poss whilst secretly thinking -what the bleep bleep are we doing to our 9 year--old child? She has 9 exams this week (one every morning and afternoon (no school Wed pm) - and has to attain over 70% in each exam in order to get through to next year (it's not an automatic assumption over here that you will - very common to be kept down). Came very close to hitting dh with the hot griddle thing on which we make toast this morning when he said "calm down dear (or words to that effect) it's as well that she gets used to it now". Grrrrr. It's times like this when I really, really want to move back to UK... (although I know things are getting more and more pressured/test-orientated there too).

OK, hand-wringing over for the day I promise! Grin Going to try and re-direct nervous energy in to the laundry and decluttering today ....

Swan your bedroom decluttering success has inspired me to try again today in the boudoir!

Hope you all have a productive start to the week! Can you believe it's the 17th of the month already Shock??? Yikes!!!

Sorry, no more personals. Expecting rep from water company in 2 mins ....

Big wing flaps to one and all!

CHBitchy · 17/06/2013 08:27

SC should we have that system I would also be a nervous wreck for ds. and would also have wanted to twat your dh for those comments But I have lost faith in the UK education system to a point that is probably unredeemable. It really is not a good system anymore. Which is a shame but what happens when is becomes a play thing of politicians rather then something to best educate the nation's children.

I really cba this morning. Bed is too warm and comfy. But have to be out the house in 10mins so really must move. Thankfully ds is ready to go so it is just a case of roller blades to go on feet yeah I know not my idea I can tell you but it makes him want to go to school so whatever

to do
doctor's appointment
pick up prescription
chase important paperwork
TIDY MY ROOM
wash ds' duvet and put cover on it

As tidy my room will take forever and a day that is actually a longer to do list then it looks.

superfluouscurves · 17/06/2013 08:40

V. kind of you to say so Bitchy thanks [sniff] Not sure I can take another 8 yrs of it, that's for sure!!

Like the idea of roller-blading to school [sounds fab!]

I'll be with you in spirit tidying boudoir today ....!! Forever-and-a-day-job- here too!!

DorisShutt · 17/06/2013 08:42

Morning ladies (and gents if there are any lurking! Wink )

Well, I had a wonderful weekend with DH & DS. We ended up at a vintage steam fair on Sunday; not my thing, but DH was loving it and therefore DS was also having a ball. Unfortunately, DS managed both days without a nap? I may be losing my ?me? time in the middle of the day.

Today, DS is at nursery, and I have almost finished my paid work for the day, so I?m planning a load of housework. I do have a blood test at 9.20am to check my iron levels, but I?m hopefully going via the rubbish dump to get rid of cardboard and tetra-packs as these are the only things our kerbside recycling doesn?t take ? and naturally we have heaps of these with fruit juice cartons!

So today is a crisis clean to get ready for the holidays ? only sixteen days to go!

Living room

  • Move sofa and clean underneath
  • Organise toys and move some upstairs

Dining room

  • Lay away washing
  • General dust & hoover

Kitchen

  • Deep clean

Bedroom

  • Organise washing and work out what needs ironed for holiday

Spare room

  • General organise
  • Hoover & dust

Ironing (If I have time/inclination!)

I will probably pop back frequently to update and hopefully gain some motivation?

DorisShutt · 17/06/2013 08:47

(sorry, that was a bit too long Blush )
