Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

pushmepullyou · 31/05/2013 21:32

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Morning all. DS1 has a CBT appointment this morning and an interview with his possible new school this afternoon. There will be very little Flying taking place.

Sympathies to your DD and you, SC. I can't begin to imagine how my DS1 would have coped in that situation. It does seem very harsh on such young children.

Jdub · 17/06/2013 09:32

Good morning!!! Hope you've all had a lovely wknd!
Busy with School/Village Day celebrations, so did a big tidy up Friday, and nothing else since!!! So I'll get back into the swing of things today!
Have a happy day xx

superfluouscurves · 17/06/2013 09:35

Thanks Toffee - hope both of your ds1's appointments go well today and that ds1 is still enthusiastic about new school! Smile

Doris good luck with your crisis clean ..it's frightening isn't it... only 14 days here (including today!!) before dd will be off school for 9 weeks straight... . Need to get organised before then. Hopefully we can motivate one another. Hope blood test is going/went OK this morning!

[Drags self away from screen rustling paper bag full of croissants, coffee and Internet shopping websites]

Big enthusiastic waves to Jdub!

CHBitchy · 17/06/2013 09:56

very oddly and completely abscent mindedly whilst drinking my second cup of coffee this morning I have managed to:

Ta da
put a load of towels on to wash
sort through 2 kit bags
spend 15mins collecting stuff to be removed from the lounge
sorted through the chest of drawers in hall and swap contents so broken drawer contains the less often used stuff
fold a few clothes gathered off radiators

Confused the only thing I intended to do was put the washing on. the other bits just seemed to happen. Shock am beginning to think this is what the fly lady means by becoming habit. help?

DorisShutt · 17/06/2013 10:30

I'm still bloody bleeding from the stupid nurse.

I told her where my "good" vein was (I have very dodgy veins, very deep and difficult to get apart from one!) but did the stupid old mare listen?!

Did she buggery!

Three attempts before she felt for the one I told her was there (but which isn't obvious to the eye!) and then went "oh, you've got a nice one there under the skin, but you can't see it can you?".

Yes. Yes, I know I do, that why I told you about it!

FFS. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Right, off to move some couches now.

Consils · 17/06/2013 11:46

Plan Ascot picnic
This includes the family silver and, more importantly, dairy free coronation chicken. Are apricots necessary? Apparently mayonnaise can be substituted for cream. We have already roasted and stripped the chicken, not poached it as recommended by Constance Spry.

Any ideas for a substitute for prawn cocktail with avocado as a starter. I can get to an M and S on Thursday.

If it was up to me we would eat ham sandwiches in the car listening to radio 4 and doing the crossword. But no. We have gazebos.

List for today

Weekly blessing
Clean out bins
Sort stuff for charity shop
Mow lawn
Walk dog
Ring builder re woodburner
Passport application

I have bought the control journal and it is a waste of money and a repeat of the site. It has been useful to me in terms of meal planning and shopping list but these are a4 sheets that I have stuck on the top of the actual a4 pages which are the control journal. I also have a to do list in there but I could have just bought the folder (75p from WHS) and a £5 whole punch and some computer paper to do it myself.

Flylady does not even include a ringbinder.

CHBitchy · 17/06/2013 11:58

Well the doctor's appointment was a very crap way to start the week. Clearly it can only be up from here. Abandoning thoughts of my room as need to go into next town for banking so that will eat up a good chunk of time.

GoingGoingGoth · 17/06/2013 12:38

Consils how disappointing re the FL journal.

Am recovering from my busy day yesterday, thank god my job is a doodle

However before work:

Done
Beds
Laundry on
Butternut squash plant repotted
Dd to school & plant handed on
Washing up
Laundry hung out

Only walked half the way to work this morning as was running out of time. I WILL do better tomorrow!
Trying for a fast day today, have brought a humongous salad. And will avoid the biscuit box.

CHBitchy · 17/06/2013 16:02

I want an academic year week to view diary which has me on one side and family on the other. That is not twee in its pattern or a stupid size. It seems this is impossible. :(

CHBitchy · 17/06/2013 16:08

stationary heaven wow just wow...

CHBitchy · 17/06/2013 16:12

Damm it, still won't do what I want it to do :(

Trazzletoes · 17/06/2013 16:22

Bitchy I have a Family Life Book and think its pretty perfect for my needs. Could it help you?

elliepac · 17/06/2013 20:47

Arses, just did big long post and it has vanished and cba to type out again.

To summarise:-

Ta da: actually quite a lot including all routines

Work was shite.

Feeling sorry for sc and her dd.

See you tomorrow as haven't even had dinner yetShock.

MercuryRising · 17/06/2013 21:14

Evening Smile

Today didn't go exactly to plan. I went for a swim and then was shopping for ds cake when I got a call from dds school to say she didn't feel well and could I come and collect her. There was actually nothing wrong with her and she spent the rest of the day playing in the garden and asking to go back to school Hmm

I hope your dd was okay today sc. Her exams sound like far too much for a nine year old to be expected to cope with.

How did it go at ds potential new school toffee?

Ta da
Swim
Morning routine
Home bleurgh
Shoe cupboard decluttered
Car cleaned
Ds cake, balloons and banners bought
Food shop
Collected dds bike from dmum
Wash load done
Kitchen cleaned after dinner

pushmepullyou · 17/06/2013 21:17

Evening everyone Smile. Very chatty day today, but I shall gird my loins (wtf is girding anyway?) and attempt a roundup Grin

sc's DD has 9 exams this week Sad, which is way too many for a 9 year old. Hope today has gone OK for her. I don't blame you for wanting to take her back to the uk, I would definitely feel the same in your position. Hope the boudoir tidy is going well Wink

Bitchy is finding that the flylady routines have crept up on her when she wasn't looking and seem to be becoming actual habitats Shock

Doris is crisis cleaning, but did manage to complete her paid work before I actually managed to get to may work!

consils is planning an ascot picnic. Which sounds fab and I am Envy (our speciality is cheese sandwiches in the car at the zoo)

Goth, like me, is on a fast day. Don't know about you, but I'm bloody starving!

trazzles and jdub both flew in, as did ellie, who has had a crap day at work.

I've managed routines and the mission fairly well today, but have a sore throat and am generally feeling a bit sorry for myself! Still need to do the online shop and also have a plan to organise the DC's artwork by hole punching new stuff into their art forders, but I haven't done it for ages and the pile is a bit daunting! Tonight I will be trying to stick to the bedtime of 11pm that I set myself in yesterday's (or was it today's?) babystep.

pushmepullyou · 17/06/2013 21:26

Sorry, glaring omission there - completely forgot to ask toffee how her DS got on at CBT and at the school and also how toffeekitten is today?

x-post with mercury - Hi mercury Smile

We're still in what my gran used the call the big bedroom and the mission is to put your clothes away.

The flight plan is here and the daily focus for Tuesday is -tuesday planning and playing

Enjoy your water!

GoingGoingGoth · 17/06/2013 22:28

pushme I could eat a horse! Was slightly heavy handed with the yogurt today, so did some extra walking (1 hour) to make up for it!

Dh is just bragging he's bought some Innocent smoothie as it's half price, the fact there's an identical carton in the fridge already.... Grin

Swanhilda · 17/06/2013 23:00

SC the boudoir does look perfectly lovely still! Dd and I have spent afternoon up here reading, and just pretending we are in a hotel. I had really lost patience with it, and was at one stage just sitting on the floor in tears not knowing how to tackle the STUFF, but sometimes the answer is to move the furniture around (at least one has the satisfaction of cleaning behind it to cheer oneself up) I moved all dh's teetering bits off bedside table and covered the most untidy large objects with a sheet. It all helped. And put away most of ornaments except for one photo.

I think your dd will be fine. If she passes well and good, and if she doesn't, it is because she needs the extra year. I'm sure she is used to this system by now. Anyway, at least your holidays are longer. Sometimes we get too sensitive on our children's behalf, when perhaps they need our ruthless strength supportto get through difficult times. Maybe that's what your dh was saying.

We had a very upsetting afternoon, which ended well. Ds2 was in floods of tears when he came off the bus from Outward Bound course because we hadn't turned up at 11am to wave the bus off as promised on Friday. We both forgot, although obviously we had escorted him lovingly to school at 9pm with his suitcase and given him lots of attention then. He was soo soo upset as us letting him down (he is 11). I think it was an example of us being a bit too laid back, thinking it wouldn't matter as several other parents weren't waving their children off. But it mattered to him and he was waiting for us, he said.Sad But we promised to take him to loads of football matches in year ahead - to him the best form of parental involvement going; I think now he is beginning to see the funny side of the whole affair, but I'm never going to take his "independence" for granted in the future, or for that matter airily make promises I don't keep. He minds too much. Dd wasn't bothered by us not turning up, as most of her friends seemed not to be waved off, which is something.

But the great news is that he seems (apart from non-send-off) to have had a fantastic time at Outward Bound Course, 3 nights away and no problems. He said he got to fencing semi-final and was a master of the trapeze. And he had nice people in his dorm of 4, and got on well with everyone, so once again Nature/outdoorsy/structured lifestyle suit him so well despite the ASD.

BlueEyeshadow · 17/06/2013 23:02

Evening all... [/policeman]

Did manage a bit of a house bleugh this morning and various bits of admin. Got hugely delayed picking DS2 up from nursery by a combination of stalling learner and weirdly non-changing traffic lights and don't seem to have caught up since. Out to choir this evening though which did me good. :)

Hope today went well, Toffee.
Grin at absent minded flying, Bitchy
Consils hope Ascot day goes well. I don't know if apricots are necessary, but they're certainly nice.

Big waves to all. DH is hovering, wanting to use the computer, so will head off. Night.

ToffeeWhirl · 17/06/2013 23:02

pushme - the CBT went well, thanks, and DS1 is feeling more hopeful about overcoming his OCD and anxiety. The school visit was cancelled because they are having an unexpected Ofsted visit. The visit has been rescheduled for Friday.

ToffeeKitten is very wobbly on his back legs. He fell down the stairs this evening Sad. I hope it's only because he is still recovering from cat flu, not anything more sinister . He has been extra cuddly and sweet all day (and is currently curled up on my lap, fast asleep).

Haven't done much today aside from basic Flying routines. DH was talking about the sorry state of the house this evening and I suggested it might be because we weren't all sharing the workload. DH does do washing up, shopping and odd jobs, but I am the one who usually tidies up each room and deals with washing, ironing, school things and everyday stuff. Am fed up with clearing up after other people and I am also fed up with doing stuff and it never being noticed by DH or anyone. DS2 is very messy at the moment (mainly Lego), DH's stuff is creeping back into the bedroom (which I have been trying to tidy) and there is home ed stuff taking over our dining-room because that's where DS1 and I work. I either need a bigger house, staff or a family who tidy up after themselves.

SC - how did DD's exams go?

Doris - sorry the nurse was so inept. Hope you are feeling less sore very soon.

Big waves to Bitchy, consils, Goth, trazzles, jdub, ellie, mercury, lileth and all the other fledglings.

Swanhilda · 17/06/2013 23:03

Poor dd - she hasn't had a mention has she? She has a cold and is staying at home tomorrow, but I think the trip went well for her too. At least this time she didn't get off the bus and kick me in the shins Shock which is what happened last time because she lost her souvenir money...Confused

ToffeeWhirl · 17/06/2013 23:06

Swan - well done to your DS for doing so well on his Outward Bound course Smile. I'm glad he can see the funny side of you not turning up to wave him off. It's the sort of thing that could turn into a family joke.

Glad you have a lovely tidy bedroom to enjoy now.

Blue - well done on house bleugh and admin.
