Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

pushmepullyou · 31/05/2013 21:32

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Yes, I am ToffeeChocolate on MFP, Castle Smile.

Trazzles - I'm sure I should know this, but what is an enabler? My MIL does exactly that: buys us sweet/fattening stuff when she knows we are trying to lose weight. It's maddening! She also buys unhealthy stuff for the boys, although we have told her we are trying to cut down on sugar because of their teeth. Argh!

Oh dear, am on second glass of wine and I'm not sure my calorie count allows it Blush.

ToffeeWhirl · 12/06/2013 18:47

Swa - re vet visit: vet wants to do blood test to check for liver/kidney problems because ToffeeKitten is losing weight Sad. He is concerned there is something more going on than just cat flu, possibly liver shunt. The breeder is really upset about all the worry we are going through and has offered us another kitten if, God forbid, anything should happen to this one. But, hopefully , that won't be necessary.

Sorry, my posts are very me, me, me today Blush. Am posting in a hurry.

Oh, and I have a ta da:

Ironing done Grin

And DH loaded and unloaded the dishwasher!

(Well done to Castle's DH too Smile).

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/06/2013 18:48

Reporting from hospital, DS had his op this afternoon, was in a lot of pain and distress on waking, so they had to dose him up with a lot of painkillers. He is drowsy now, I don't think they'll discharge him tonight so we will be staying here. He wants to go home though Sad. Anyway, hopefully the worst is over.

ToffeeWhirl · 12/06/2013 18:52

Poor boy. I hope the worst is over for him too, WhoKnows. How distressing for you. I hope you have a good night, of sorts.

LillethTheCat · 12/06/2013 19:04

Evening. Our Internet is playing up again and I can only sometimes get on, when I am on its really slow.

Been today to volunteer for Age UK in the finance office. I'm doing that every Wed now so feel I can turn down that other job as all I was going to gain was improvement on my CV, but this volunteering will give me that. I have also managed to email the lay at the agency about jobs advertised which I would like to apply for. I'm going to chase this up tomorrow with a phone call.

Since I am now busy every wed I'd decided to give a fast day a go in preparation for the 5:2 when I eventually do get a job. It was great while I was out, but as soon as I was home it took a lot of willpower to stop at the 2 slices of ham (22 calories each).

So today I've not done a lot of flying, but DH spent 30 mins decluttering the dining room while I was out.

whoknows hope it gets better for you

toffee aww poor kitten, hope all is ok in the end

Big waves to everyone else, I'm on iPad and its not as easy as PC for me.

elliepac · 12/06/2013 19:34

Evening allSmile.

Good day at work but poor day flying wise. Did manage to get some washing on the line before i took dc's swimming but then it pissed it down whilst there so now kust have soggy washing (still on the lineBlush)

Am not doing anything else tonight.

whoknows hope ds has settled and you get home as soon as possible.

trazzles hope Joe is ok.

Better go, DD is whinging .

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/06/2013 19:41

My MIL does that feeding us all mega doses of sugary stuff too. Her entire family are overweight apart from the grandchildren (so far). She's lovely in general though.

Pissed it down all day here too. I nearly put the heating back on last night.

superfluouscurves · 12/06/2013 19:50

Whoknows poor you and your poor ds. Hope he wakes up feeling a lot better tomorrow. Think you should have at least two of these Wine tonight.

oh no Toffee re: kitten, fingers crossed for it

Castle/Toffee Is it me or are there lots of dhs/dps on here who have suddenly started to pull their weight? Must be the Fantastic Fledgling Flying Filtering Effect!! Grin although it would seem it hasn't quite reached Belgium yet Hmm

Trazzles/Swan my dh is enabler too - although to be fair to him - think he is trying to enable himself in the food dept more than me, but if it's in the cupboard, I will eat it Blush

Trazzles commuting is inherently exhausting, never mind all the stresses you are dealing with

Swan [funny you should mention carrot cake today Blush ] Thanks for kind words re: dh and sorry you are feeling tired but looking at your list I can see why!

Pushme ditto re: tiredness (hope Werthers Originals do the trick!)

Lilleth glad the job situation has worked out for you (and Age UK too)!

How lovely about your wedding dress Kat! Smile

Cheers Bitchy! [Lunges at wine glass]

Waves to Mercury Goth Asheth Jdub Doris Ellie
and everyone else.

Going to have an early night. Was up at 5am to see dh off this morning - was actually 45 mins early for school - waiting for doors to open! Also very happy to have bumped in to old friend with whom I had lost touch - looking forward to meeting up again.

Afternoon of revision has done me in (wasn't quite as bad as anticipated thankfully but don't want to look at another quadrilateres any time soon).

G'night all!

superfluouscurves · 12/06/2013 19:52

er that should have read, any other quadrilateres

effect or affect?

brain won't function

x post waves to Ellie Whoknows

wierd humid/cold weather here

zzzzzzzzzzzz

Swanhilda · 12/06/2013 19:52

Toffee I suppose I just meant, if you are ill with flu you don't feel very hungry..re kitten. If you are leaping around you burn off loads of energy and need more food, and if you are quiet and still I suppose you feel less interested. I'm glad the breeder is being supportive, that is one comfort.

I failed to get to Beavers to help, because I managed to leave it too late.. very chaotic here as usual on Wednesday. Iceland stirfried rice was rejected by all, and Dh actually spat his out into the sink Shock.really feel like a nice bowl of rice krispies and curling up on this rainy evening, but next best to RK is Mumsnet.

Dd has done an egg experiment for science consisted on wasting several hard boiled eggs and filming them being sucked into a milk bottle via vacuum created by lighting a match in milkbottle. Ds1's "rubber stamping"appt for dyspraxia has finally come through from NHS referral. There were tears because it clashed with a rowing excursion with school, but I've managed to change it to a week later, phew.

Whoknows What an exhausting wearing day for ds Sad At least the sun is not shining outside.

pushmepullyou · 12/06/2013 21:55

Links for 13th June

The babystep for tomorrow is to do one of the missions. Whilst we're on the subject the missions for tomorrow are to shine the bathroom sink and clean the doorknobs

The flight plan is here

Thursday is errand day. My errand will be to get some keys cut.

BlueEyeshadow · 12/06/2013 22:07

Have had a slightly odd day today. Swung between super-productive with work, laundry, ironing and exercise early on and then super-CBA later on. The great excitement is that the choir I go to is going to feature on the One Show tomorrow evening for approx 2 seconds! It's part of a thing they're doing with Debbie Harry from Blondie and there is going to be a montage of choirs all over the country singing her songs. Unfortunately, it took double the expected time so I missed seeing my friend who popped over this evening. Was kind of fun but also very boring!

Big waves to everyone and lots of Brew and Wine for everyone who's had a tiring/stressful day. Will try and catch up properly tomorrow.

GoingGoingGoth · 12/06/2013 22:17

Evening all, just home, so sat with glass of Baileys (should not have bought a litre bottle),
Am just about back upto date on thread, hope everyone's babies are ok, both human or feline.

Feeling positive about Flying as flat looks reasonable. DH has finally realised that washing up in the evening keepers the kitchen looking tidier and that doing the litter tray daily stops it getting too bad and results in a happier cat.

I've also agreed today to help out on 2 half day school trips, 1 to the local library (must concentrate on children and not new books) and the 1 to the Mitchell Library, not been there before, quite excited as it's one of the largest public libraries inEurope and has over a million items of stock! I may never leave! Grin

pushmepullyou · 12/06/2013 22:45

Back from Cheltenham now, so I might even manage a round up tonight Smile

whoknows' DS has had is op, but is sturggling a bit and likely to be kept in over night. Hope he wakes up feeling much better in the morning - i'm sure he will x

toffeekitten has started eating - only a little so far, but hopefully he is turning a corner. Toffee has had a stressful day and is drinking Wine Grin

ellie has had a good day at work and a not so good day flying. Her washing is on the line, but it is raining (mine is still in the dirty laundry basket!)

sc has been up since 5:30am and arrived unprecedentedly early for school this morning Grin

lileth is turning down the unsatisactory job and volunteering for Age UK instead. That sounds like a much better plan if it's mostly a CV thing Smile

Trazzles is commuting and knackered! In common with many of us she is finding it hard not to eat treats provided by well meaning Hmm but unhelpful family. My DH is a terrible enabler so I sympathise he has a lot more weight to lose than I do as well

swan has had a fascinating day of egg-based science experiments. I've never seen that one work and I've always really wanted to. If I wasn't so bloody lazy I'd get off the sofa and have a go Grin

castle is on mfp with about half the thread Smile

Kat has had her wedding dress fitting Smile. I have come over all Envy and nostaligic Smile

Bitchy is in the naughty croner with the Wine. Se you there in a minute...

In the spirit of clean out your sock drawer I have bought new socks for the DC, but have not yet cleared out the old ones. Don't think that was exactly what the fat fairy had in mind Blush. In the spirit of anti-procrastination I have sorted out afterschool childcare for DD one day a week from January 2014 (nanny getting stressed, but hopefully this will ease things). In the spirit of still procrastinating really I still need to de-flea the cats and cba!

pushmepullyou · 12/06/2013 22:47

x-post with blue and Goth. Hello . I'm sure I saw Asheth about earlier as well, but for some reason I can't see her post. Hello to you too Smile. And everyone else I've inevitably missed!

OP posts:
Swanhilda · 12/06/2013 22:58

Push you have to make sure egg is perfectly oval when hardboiled Grin, and makes a good seal on the neck of milkbottle, thus creating a true vacuum. It is a spectacular trick - I too had never seen it done. It is quite frightening to think how much air pressure we put up with!

Dh is being very boring and tiresome this evening, and no doubt he thinks the same of me!!

I've now managed to book a holiday in Broadstairs (again) which is something, although I see now that for more adventurous options you really have to book way in advance. I never realised that you can't just decide to go somewhere like Salzburg and get flights. Shows how little I've travelled, except to Eire in last 10 years. Pathetic. Makes me itch to take a term time holiday too, everything is booked up in UK for school holiday dates. Just one week earlier and all would be well.

feetheart · 12/06/2013 23:03

Whoknows - make sure you keep the painkillers very, very regular. Initially when DS broke his leg even 10 minutes over the 2 hrs (Calpol alternated with ibuprofen) meant he ended up in pain again. First thing in the morning was worst as he had slept through a number of doses so was suffering until the first dose kicked in.
Hopefully your DS will be OK but it's best to be prepared.
Look after yourself in amongst it all.

Not much Flying going on here - builders, Father's day crafts at school and work means there are not enough hours in the day and I have HUGE problems going on with the flat I rent out :(

Waves to everyone else.

elliepac · 13/06/2013 06:40

C.....B.....A......

That is all I have to say this morning.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/06/2013 06:48

Feet, yes, thanks, that is exactly what has happened this morning, he's ok when it's resting but the minute he moves it it really hurts, he's had both painkillers now and is eating. Slept from about 10-4.30 which is better than I expected TBH, I slept ok ish too, but there was a lot of noise even though there is no one else in our room (lorries unloading outside the window and windows rattling in the wind).

superfluouscurves · 13/06/2013 07:20

Brew for Ellie

Glad you and ds are reasonably OK this morning Whoknows hope you can catch up on sleep tonight

Swan what a fantastic egg experiment!

I've just realised that I've left it horribly late with holiday cottages this year. Everything is already booked! And you are right, anything involving train or plane is either no longer available and/or costs a small fortune unless you know your schedule a year in advance.

Sorry about flat rental issues Feetheart what a pain

Hope after school care solution soothes nanny situation Pushme

Very Envy re: library Goth! Sounds wonderful!!!!

Congratulations on telly appearance Blue V. exciting!

Big wing flaps to eveyrone else!

I'm taking myself off for very, very, minor boring medical procedure this afternoon and will be recovering tomorrow, and over weekend so will 'see' you all next week! Have a good one everybody!

And try and make sure Bitchy behaves herself while I'm gone... Wink Grin

Swanhilda · 13/06/2013 08:10

Whoknows tbh I think the GA makes you feel dreadful, quite apart from the actual bones hurting. It does wear off though, ds didn't need pkillers after 4 days, and that was for a major fracture.

SC Vintage Travel seemed to have a few in Spain/France. We are stuck always because we cannot drive, so need to be right in a town/village - hence the joy of Broadstairs (which is incidentally is booked up too, apart from one rather strange pink house with no garden, which had thankfully a week free)

I've done the morning shift, getting ds1 off to secondary, plagued by ds2 playing Rocky Horror Show very loudly in the front room, and three cats trying to climb in and out windows, when one is not supposed to go out at all (stitches out on Friday)

DorisShutt · 13/06/2013 08:15

SC good luck! Hope it all goes well.

I'm shattered. DH and I stayed up later than normal watching a TV programme - and now I'm exhausted this morning.

I'm trying to work up enough enthusiasm to work out whether I can be arsed taking DS swimming today. We haven't really ever gone since he was little, but I know on holiday we'll probably be heading for the seaside, so I'd like him to understand water a little bit. I've just got a horrible suspicion that he'll be a nightmare getting changed and won't want to go into the pool... Bugger...

Anyway, no clue what I'm doing flying-wise today - I'm off on holiday in 3 weeks (ish) and I was hoping to do a full house clean before I left

Right, on with paying work, and then I'll see what I feel like.

Brew on the bar as usual!

CHBitchy · 13/06/2013 09:54

SC really? do you think this lot could keep me under control Wink Grin

Whoknows I have to agree with those saying that the GA is part of the problem. Makes you feel so bleurgh that any pain on top is so much worse. When ds had his arm pinned he was jumping down the stairs from half way up in his usual heart stopping manner after about a fortnight. prior to this we bribed him to sit still with technology and sweets Blush Hopefully your ds goes a similar line and the pain settles down in a few days. although I am sure you could do without the stair jumping

So today has been productive I already have a ta da list:
clear scrambled egg from where I managed to chuck it around the kitchen
remake breakfast and actually eat it.
look at the fact that raw egg clear up in one area has highlighted that perhaps all the kitchen doors need cleaning and then ignore it
Clear dining room table ready for later activities
check recently cleaned laundry baskets indeed no long contain traces of baby oil so no more clothes get ruined. some bugger knocked over the bottle of oil and left it dripping ruining a whole pile of nice clothes in the baskets below Angry
put a load of washing in the machine
strip my bedding
fold 2 loads worth of laundry.
collect washing up and stick in sink to soak
Find pattern pieces needed for today and iron flat
confirm the change of pattern design ready for making associated pattern changes.

To do:
play around with sparkly stuff and make pretty things...
adapt pattern in accordance with change in sizing and design modifications.

KatAndKit · 13/06/2013 10:27

wow bitchy you are on fire this morning! Much more productive than me so far. However my bedding is in the washing maching and I did 15 minutes decluttering and I have dealt with some emails and made DS's lunch so not too bad. I despair of ever reaching the end of the clutter though - I can't believe how much crap is in our house. I think I will be decluttering for months and months!

DorisShutt · 13/06/2013 10:40

Swimming postponed until tomorrow when the session is actually on Blush

I have a house like a dump. I know what I need to do. DS appears to be accommodating this but I just can't get motivated. Argh!!!!

Seriously. I don't have a room where things are in the right place. My kitchen looks like a bomb has gone off. My living room is covered in toys and books. My dining room has washing hanging everywhere to air which needs to be put away. The hall table is covered in crap.

Seriously. Someone kick me up the arse. Why can I not be bothered recently? Argh!!!! Sad
