Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

pushmepullyou · 31/05/2013 21:32

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Evening all!

Little flying done really but small ta da list:-
Washing in
Washing up
Ds to cubs
Ds picked up from cubs
Visit BF for coffee with DD whilst Ds at cubs
Work
Tidy living room
S/s bathroom
Been for a run

Had a good day at work today. It was the final history exam today and I managed to accurately predict the questions and go through them in the final lesson. Lots of happy children afterwardsSmile.

castlelough lovely to see you back and that support is being put in place for the future.

mercury all i have done, literally all, is use my fitness pal and calorie count. This however has led to big changes in eating habits particularly where snacking and portion control are concerned. Recently i have started doing C25k to keep it going. Still have a couple of stone to go ( that just shows you how overweight i was in the first placeBlush).

Big waves to everybody else. Literally just sat down for first time tonight and am going to watch some crap tvGrin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/06/2013 21:34

Evening all,

Castle - good to see you back posting, glad you have an understanding gynae.

Mercury - my DH does that, no decluttering for years, then suddenly does it spontaneously and gets rid of important stuff.

SC - clothes shopping reasonably successful, but I still need a few more things for in between days weather wise and some shoes (I have awkward feet). Also managed to buy two lipsticks and some nail varnish, I seriously need to declutter my nail varnish collection, must have about 40 of them.

Toffee - hope the school visit goes well on Friday. I am starting to think that now is the time when I need to apply for a statement for my DS, but the prospect of the process does not fill my heart with joy I must say.

Well, ta-da!

3 loads of washing (2 done last night) - all line dried and put away
Kitchen counters thoroughly cleaned (forgot last week)
Kitchen floor swept and mopped
Small appliances wiped down
Menu plan / Food shop done and put away
DD taken to the dentist for a filling Sad
OU work done - trying to get ahead as I know I will struggle once the school hols start.

Early night for me tonight. DS has to go back to the fracture clinic in the morning to see if he needs his arm pinned, we have been told nil by mouth from 6am just in case, so the alarm is set for 5.30 (he can normally get his own but it's tricky with his cast on and I think he deserves a bit of solidarity TBH). He is coping well, but is on a bit of a knife edge emotionally with it all, losing his temper or crying at the slightest things.

Swan/Feet - the Limbo arrived on Friday and has been a great success, thank you both for suggesting it.

Swanhilda · 10/06/2013 22:21

SC Going Forth party is post Mass to celebrate first communicants going forth into the world! They get to wear their FC outfits again, and all are together rather than at 5 different masses (which is how it works for the FCs, as there are so many children and guests, and the parish of course, so it is done over three Sundays) By that point all the catechists are pretty exhausted, but it is always a very jolly occasion, and the parents bring the food Grin which is usually sweets and crisps and fizz! The parents eat the real food like the miniquiches and the children end up going berserk from lemonade and strawberry shoelaces.

My diet is going well. I actually sat in a Patisserie this morning drinking coffee and consumed not a single pastry. So far today I have eaten no snacks and no carbs, apart from spoonful of mashed potato; walked at least three miles whilst running various errands to my mum's house and back.

Feel much less tired than usual. It is those carbs that knock me out, I now admit it. Started day with bacon and egg and lasted till lunch (cheese and tomato and kidney beans) with no hunger. Wow. No alcohol in my diets, that also does trick for me, as I get hungover and demotivated after just one glass.

Ds1 (13)back from his Outward Bound on Isle of Wight. He is not really divulging much info about it, but said he wanted to stay longer. I'm expecting fallout tomorrow though. He seems quiet, but told me he had done all the scary things that last year he hadn't the nerve to try, like Jacob's Ladder and zip wire.

Horrendous scenes this evening when it was discovered that Ds2 had the temerity to nick an empty shoebox from dd's room for a project he had done on pheasant shooting Confused. I have told him over and over again, not to take so much as a rubber band from dd but he is drawn to her room and its contents. Dh gets very cross that she is so possessive, but I think it is part of being a twin and having to share far too much along the way.

Then luckily everyone went to bed and read books quietly [sigh]

Swanhilda · 10/06/2013 22:23

Whoknows sorry all that rambling. GOOD LUCK WITH TOMORROW and hope they decide not to repin it. You might find ds is a bit disappointed when there is no op. I remember ds going back to school feeling a bit crestfallen..(that was the first break)

BlueEyeshadow · 10/06/2013 22:34

Evening all.

Ta da!
3 baskets of laundry sorted and put away
Another load through the machine and dry
S&S etc
House bleugh in an hour and on the right day Shock
Play games not too crossly with DS2
Afternoon with friends
Cleaned kitchen again after dinner

Was being quite good today, snacking-wise but had a mini eclair at friend's and just made cocoa to warm up. The weather certainly thinks June is the new January, brr!

Big waves to all and hope appt. goes well tomorrow WhoKnows.

ToffeeWhirl · 10/06/2013 22:34

Definitely having an early night tonight. Will come back and catch up on the thread tomorrow. Night all.

CHBitchy · 10/06/2013 22:46

Don't know what you are talking about. we have had brilliant sunshine 19C today and being in the northwest we aren't known for our brilliant weather. Been walking about in a vest top. Grin

Should be asleep. have early training. can't sleep.

Good luck tomo with fracture clinic WHoknows
Swan I feel better when I avoid high carbs too but have blood sugar tolerance issues. Doesn't stop me falling into a chocolate bar as required but I do try to avoid pasta.

I supposed I should try to get some sleep.

pushmepullyou · 10/06/2013 23:33

If anyone is still up would you mind awfully posting the links for me?

Am still in Tebay services on my way back from Stirling and I think it might be a bit late when I get back Grin

No matter if not but you will have to fend for yourselves until 10ish when I drag myself in to work Grin

Haven't caught up with the thread yet, but good to have you back castle glad you are as ok as you can be x

LINKS FOR 11 JUNE 2013

Baby step no. eleven is here find one of Kelly's missions and go and do it.

We're in Zone 3 which is the bathroom plus one extra room (the kid's rooms(s)).

Tuesday's mission is cleaning out the bathroom bin plus doing a 27 (or less)-fling boogie with the dc!

The flight plan is here

The daily focus for Tuesday is planning! (meals, agendas, medical appointments, wardrobes, holidays etc etc)

Habit of the month is to drink more water

Castlelough · 11/06/2013 00:27

Slight progress made here! Have spent two hours in the kitchen/sitting room and it is cleaner and tidier than it has been in weeks although that isn't saying a whole lot. A LOT of time was spent on dishes, pots&pans etc - I know i have mentioned this before but God how I'd love a dishwasher....
Laundry is rebooted. I did a mini-meal plan and grocery dash/shop...
And DH changed the oil in the deep fat fryer this evening and washed and scrubbed all the gunk away (it comes completely apart, and can even go in a dishwasher which is why I chose it even though we haven't a dw Confused I hate this job, so brownie points for DH. Smile

WhoKnows best of luck with ds tomorrow.

superfluouscurves · 11/06/2013 01:07

Think you and dh deserve an enormous plate of freshly cooked chips after that Castle!! Good to hear about your specialist and tests etc too - hope they can offer good support x

Good luck at clinic tomorrow Whoknows

Bitchy/Swan/Lilleth I've had pasta and chocolate tonight Blush Blush

[Am up late trying to write a letter in French to one of dd's teachers following a rather unfortunate incident at school today which resulted in her (and two classmates) crying for 2 hours post collection. Trying to be understanding of teacher's position and not giving the impression that I am one of those parents but at the same time trying to put dd's side because I genuinely think situation was handled poorly. V. difficult to get the tone right in another lang. so on fourth draft and second chocolate bar atm!]

Swan goodness re: Going Forth party! Thanks for explanation - have never heard of them before (not done over here anyway and am very out of touch with UK practices). Sounds as though a lot of hard work/dedication is invested in the dc in your parish - strawberry shoelaces sound good too! Congrats on your self-discipline re: pastries!!

Shock and secret Envy re: Whoknow's 40 bottles of nail varnish!!! Grin

Elliepac glad exam season is going well (and v. interested/inspired to see you used willpower + MFP + running to achieve splendiforous weight loss results) first and last might be a bit difficult but can try and do middle bit!!

Congrats on a very productive day Mercury but oops at yr dh's over-zealous decluttering!!

Hope you have a better day tomorrow/today Doris

Waves to Engels Kat Toffee and everyone else ...

G'night all!

BlueEyeshadow · 11/06/2013 07:51

Bitchy we are in East Anglia and have been shivering under leaden skies and temps in the low teens for the past 3 days. Even when it was sunny, the wind was cold. :(

Ellie yes, congrats! Have lost 2.5 or so stone by the same method (with Zumba instead of running). Now battling to keep it that way.

Hope you got back ok, PMPY.

Not sure how much will get done today as DS2 seems to be coming down with something...

elliepac · 11/06/2013 07:54

blue we are in Lincolnshire and it has been exactly the same hereSad.

sc thanks Smile

Busy day today. Better get off to work!

pushmepullyou · 11/06/2013 08:31

Morning all and thank you sc Smile

Diet day today. Inspired by ellies amazing weightloss I think I may try to restart myself on mfp! I seem to basically maintain on 5:2 presumably because I stuff myself with crap on my days 'off'. The upshot is that I have only lost about half a stone since January!

Need to do some flying today and by happy coincidence the things that need doing most are today's missions Grin

To do
Missions
Mfp
Work
Couple of hotspots
Pick up drycleaning
Put away laundry

That's probably enough for today!

OP posts:
superfluouscurves · 11/06/2013 08:44

Morning all!

Love both those bits of England. Sunny but cold here too!

Ta da:
emergency bread run
morning routine inc dw, wm, rabbits, s&s
wrote shopping list

To do:
on-line shopping parcels try on/return
quick supermarket shop
laundry
huge effort first floor (boudoir, home office, storage room) - really want to try and make inroads today
Walking Fit file
hwk/revision supervision (groan)
eve routine

(What is it about men? Asked dh to supervise breakfast for 10 mins this morning while I printed/finalised school letter - perfectly reasonable supply of milk, cereal, wholemeal bread, butter, Marmite, jam, eggs, fruit etc in kitchen - came downstairs to find dd with no drink, eating carrot cake Hmm Then he wonders why I appear to be irritated Confused )

[And breathe ...]

Have a good day everyone!!! Smile

superfluouscurves · 11/06/2013 08:47

x posts

A pleasure Pushme (proffers Brew)

See you on MFP when I type in endless list of things wot I have scoffed

KatAndKit · 11/06/2013 09:44

Fair start today - put some washing in the machine, done shopping errand to co-op which counts as exercise, morning routine done including ironing clothes before wearing them and fixing hair. Once I've had my break I will do a 15 minute declutter in DS's room and possibly one of the bathroom tasks. Also this afternoon deal with a bit of paperwork and take DS to toddler group. Go to Asda to replace conked out hairdryer and perhaps accidentally pick up some non-list items. The meal planning and online grocery shop is meaning we waste far less food so far and so we will definitely save money.

Jdub · 11/06/2013 09:51

Good morning!
A good start...
dw unloaded
shoes polished (ds even helped- good progress!)

Hopefully I'll feel fully fired up at home time to run in and grab the hoover keenly ( I hate my Henry hoover with a passion!) but there are crumbs and sequins on the floor that won't pick themselves up!

Have a good day xx

KatAndKit · 11/06/2013 10:35

15 minute declutter resulted in a whole bin bag for the charity shop!

GoingGoingGoth · 11/06/2013 12:52

Afternoon all, back to the usual rain in Glasgow today Sad so 'trapped' in the pavilion this afternoon.

I'm supposed to be having 2 classes coming down from the local primary to try out the bowls and pitch & putt around 1:30, we'll see if they turn up. It went really well yesterday (apart from the boy who got hit in the head with a golf club!) Can't see the cricket running this evening either.

elliepac I'm a yellowbelly too! Born in Nocton & grew up in Louth. Grin

Not much planned on the Flying front until Thursday, am looking forward to this weekend as it's my first one off for a month.

Slowly plodding through Mt Washmore this week after a weekend break; DD and her friends had water pistols out for both days. I'm sure she was having fun on Sunday when I working, as I came home to find a bath full of grit!

Oh god, it's pissing down now! Off. To find wellies for when I have to retrieve the golf flags.

Swanhilda · 11/06/2013 13:52

not following routines at all, as there seems far too much to catch up with to bother Blush

however...I have managed to get ds2 to mop bathroom floor last night
pack two big "outward bound" piles for next Friday
sort out Sports chest
make inroads on office clutter -long long way to go there - it's horrendous
stick to diet, no carbs, stew and broad beans for lunch, ham and eggs for breakfast
brisk walk with cat to vet (Cat No 3..I am striking up a soap opera relationship with the woman from Cats Action who is always there too, and several regulars who bring their animals in for arthritis injections etc...)
mercy drive ds1 to school (he was so tired after Isle of Wight fresh air 3 days) (that is getting easier, the junction I hate seems less scary than when I started this in 2012)
recyling out
dw loaded
knitting needles put away
big bag of rubbish created
two loads of washing

guest this eve, luckily no supper just a bed for night

Trazzletoes · 11/06/2013 14:19

Hello there, the weather is rubbish in W Yorks too Sad but I haven't noticed as I've been AT WORK THIS MORNING! Woo-hoo! Though I do feel like I'm playing at grown ups...

Who else is on MFP? I am and I don't have any friends...

ellie you have done fantastically well! You really should be proud of yourself. I have about 4 stone to lose < gasp> but just realised that DH and I are having our first date night in yonks today and he's taking me to the kind of place where you have a heart attack just looking through the menu...

This afternoon I would like to do a bit in my bedroom as its such a tip and 15 mins wading through clutter on the desk of shame.

I also need to order a new dishwasher (apologies castle !) but the one we really like only comes in silver unlike the rest of our WHITE goods ah well.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/06/2013 14:45

I'm on MFP Trazzle (although I'm not very dedicated about keeping up with it). Same name as on here.

Steady rain for most of the day here too, but at least the wind from a few days ago has gone, rain is perfectly vertical. Got back from the hospital with DS about an hour ago after a lot of waiting around. His arm has failed to straighten out and he has to be admitted tomorrow to have it manipulated under GA, if that fails they will pin it. So, another early breakfast and a long day (he is on the afternoon list). Not much Flying done (again). Will get stuck in after getting DD from school,

Consils · 11/06/2013 15:56

I am jumping back in with good intentions
ring doctor to reschedule smoking cessation meeting which I forgot
walk dog
wash up and put away
home blessing on kitchen
Start supper; fishcakes, asparagus, carrots, potatoes, crab
passport application
order panama hat
bath
check fridge
cook rice for dog
attempt house blessing
mission
move printer upstairs
inbox
water pansies and clematis

DorisShutt · 11/06/2013 17:09

No house flying done today, I've been in the garden - just got it all done(ish!) before the rain came on so I'm feeling virtuous!

Moss and dandelions grass cut front and back, strimmed, weeded and a bit of light pruning of low lying branches that usually get lawnmowered Blush

The unwanted side effect of this is that I have aching arms and legs Sad

I've now got a washing on and another one waiting to be done.

Dinner is chicken with, um, well it was going to be salad, but the local shop had NO lettuce or coleslaw Hmm so it might be potatoes and veg.

Right, off to monitor DS' dinner.

Have a nice night!
