Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

pushmepullyou · 31/05/2013 21:32

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Well after being annoyed with myself for not going out for a run earlier I have just had a productive few mins planning a control journal for me. Is it sad that Im actually quite excited by having one. Im actually going to go out and buy a cheap ring binder and some dividers. I like lists as I like to tick things off. Im not going to have massive lists straight away, but these will build over time. I think that's what has been missing these recent months some sort of organised routine. Ive always ignored that bit of Flylady and just used this thread.

Anyway where am I today:
Bedding done, looking forward to getting in bed in half an hour or so and watch some crap
Pamper bath done
shine sink done
Homework done
Make a list of things to do this week and on what days will do now

I have also sorted out DD2's clothes. I was unable to shut her drawers. So I picked up a bag and filled it with her clothes that are now too small for her and they are ready to go to charity.

I know I should have picked up on the baby step of decluttering by now so will do this from tomorrow. I will just pick an area to go through a day, be it a side, a cupboard or drawers.

So tomorrow's list
declutter for 5 mins
Load of washing
shine sink
Go shopping
go to course
decide what to do about the job I was talking about on Friday. My gut is still to decline, but I just dont know what to say. Although it wont be too hard as it will be by email, but I absolutely hate letting people down and I feel that I am Sad

elliepac · 09/06/2013 20:38

don't worry Doris. it won't actually happenWink Grin

pushmepullyou · 09/06/2013 21:28

Todays round up is brought to you mostly by sc who has had an anxious night brought on by a disobedient bunny; said hello lots to everyone; likes Father Ted; told us about her DH and his extra long baguette; has a so far unrevealed story regarding her dh and his catering size mechanical prong, and said goodnight to everyone Grin. We love you just the way you are Grin

In other news...

Bitchy is recuperating after a very late night and is probably in need of intravenous coffee!

Blue is grumpy and cba

Doris has been enjoying family time and looking forward to her holiday (3 weeks until mine - yippee!!)

Asheth has made a 'flying' (ho ho!) start and completed all this weeks missions and put out her hotspots - well done Smile

swan had a nervewracking start to the day but managed to turn her DD into a flybaby been shopping with her DC and staggered home.

just is not well - I don't think it counts as a naughty corner in those circumstances - maybe think of it as a recuperation corner Smile

kit has run out of bin space for decluttering - I know that feeling well. It's not a successful week here if there isn't a tip run in there somewhere (note: this week was not a successful week!)

toffee has been for a walk and bought clothes and some weightwatchers wine. It does sound disgusting, was it?

ellie, lileth and whoknows cba to run. I empathise - although I did go to the gym . Lileth has excelled in other ways by making her control journal (I still haven't managed that!)

narky's DC are enjoying conversations on the loo. A private wee is a rare treat in this house. Thought I'd managed it yesterday only to see a small black fuzzy cat face peering hopefully round the door.

Big wing flaps and encouraging word to everyone i've inevitably missed (am on 3rd glass of Wine ).

We've had a mostly good day here, but I seem to have managed to mortally offend our nanny again . All I want is for her to come to work and do the hours that we agreed when we drew up her contract, but it seems that is too much to ask. She is brilliant with the DC but we are very different people and seem to manage to offend each other regularly without meaning to. I honestly could cry about it all today.

Apart from that we've had a lovely day playing in the garden and I've even managed to oil the worktops, which is one of my detail cleaning kitchen things Smile

Links for tomorrow...

It's the 10th of the month so the baby step is you can do anything in 15 minutes. I do find this quite useful, especially when I cba to put the bins out.

We're in Zone 3, which is the bathroom and one extra room. This month it's the kid's rooms(s). Which are a bit of a disaster area in this house, so not before time!
Mondays mission is to wipe the back of the loo and throw away rubbish in the kids rooms

The flight plan as always is here

Monday is house bleurgh day. I am off to Stirling for the day, 10 hours driving, so not likely to be much bleurghing here.

Drink your water and have a lovely Monday Smile

I swear Flylady has a control journal for schoolage children on her site and advice on helping them get themselves organised but I'm damned if I can find it!

MercuryRising · 10/06/2013 07:41

Morning.

Sorry I have been missing for a few days. I worked nights on Thursday and Friday. I slept at my dmums on Sat as the plumber was coming early to fix a leak under the bath. When I came home dp had cleaned the house top to bottom and done a massive declutter of ds toys Grin

Yesterday I did some more of the neverending fence painting - I wouldn't mind but our garden is only small!

I also tackled some of the ironing pile.

Well done Asheth on completing all of last weeks missions, I didn't manage to do anyBlush I must try
harder this week.

What did you think of the ww wine Toffee? I sometimes get the rose and I don't think its too bad - especially as it makes me feel like Im still sticking to the diet.

To do:
Dw
Wm
Ss
Beds
Lunches
Hairdressers
Paint fence
Food shop
Present shop for ds bday
Home bleurgh
Mission
Declutter dcs wardrobe

Hope you all have a great day.

BlueEyeshadow · 10/06/2013 08:00

Re wine and diets - I saw a column in the Grauniad magazine a few weeks ago which said there was a website somewhere (might have been drinkware??) which gives you the calorie content of different wines. Lower alcohol and lower sugar makes a big difference.

Need to be strict with myself this week. Had a few lax weeks with DH being away and half term & started piling on the pounds again...

KatAndKit · 10/06/2013 08:43

Right it's bin day today so the decluttering can recommence. Not much flying at the weekend but we had a lovely time so that is fine by me. Kept on top of laundry and dishwashing and ordered grocery shopping online and did meal plan.

To do today:
declutter bathroom cabinet
already done swish and swipe - will also clean the bath tub today if time
sort out 10 items of baby clothing to be binned or donated - I have kept everything but there is tonnes of it and I don't need it all.
attend birthday picnic
choose one item on home bleurgh list to do
cook dinner

ToffeeWhirl · 10/06/2013 10:21

Narky - Honu is right! There's a 'Back to school' section here, with a link to a student control journal (so you can delegate all the organisation to your DC Hmm).

Mercury - your DH sounds fab. Can I borrow him for a day? I didn't try the WW wine in the end, as DH opened a bottle of ordinary white and I had spent so many calories walking into town and back that I was allowed two glasses Grin. Might try it tonight though.

Blue - that website sounds useful - I'll have a look for it.

Was a bit disturbed to hear a doctor on R4 discussing how toxic alcohol is the other day and there really is no safe limit .

Kit - you sound like you are doing really well. The weekend is meant to be for fun and renewal, so it's good that you didn't do much Flying. If you follow Flylady, the idea is that you get it all done in the week (barring daily routines) and then you can relax at the weekend.

Can't get kitty to eat a thing this morning. He seems perkier in himself, but it really worries me that he won't eat. He is grooming himself more though, so that must be a good sign. Have another appointment at the vet tomorrow, so will find out how he's doing then.

So far today:

DS2 up and out to school
Bins out
Recycling out
Unloaded d/w
Reloaded d/w
Wiped kitchen surfaces and cooker top
Phone calls
Kitty meds

To do :

Swish and swipe in bathroom
Change bathroom towel
Room rescues
Ironing
Home ed
Lunch
School run

Jdub · 10/06/2013 10:42

good morning!!
Hope your weekends have been good.
Our chicken pox confinement seems to be coming to an end - hurrah! And whilst my youngest was in a bicarb bath, I managed to give the bathroom a good clean too!!
Apart from that, quite a quiet affair, but did have a clothes sort for the school clothes recycling frog!
Must do better this week...
Happy Monday everyone x

ToffeeWhirl · 10/06/2013 10:47

Great news about the end of your confinement, Jdub! I like your multitasking (bicarb bath and cleaning bathroom).

Not sure what a recycling frog is, but well done on decluttering.

I seem to be stuck on MN Blush. Must exert some self discipline...

Castlelough · 10/06/2013 13:52

Right, it's a fresh week and I am jumping back in again! Smile

To Do

-hospital consultation
-WHB
-Meal plan, grocery list & shop
-Find my riding clothes (have been offered a horse to ride for the summer!)
-Declutter 15 mins (magazine pile)
-Dust off control journal
-Catch up on the thread!

Back later!

NarkyNamechanger · 10/06/2013 14:04

Thank you Honu and Toffee, I'm off to look at section to see what tips I can pinch. I may be some time...

NarkyNamechanger · 10/06/2013 14:05

How are you doing castle ?

NarkyNamechanger · 10/06/2013 14:24

Okay you might never get me off Mumsnet now I have discovered Siri and I'm using it to type this post.

superfluouscurves · 10/06/2013 14:25

Ah bless you Castle Welcome back Flowers it's great to 'see' you!!! xxx [And really fab about riding prospect for summer]

And thank you for lovely round-up Pushme Grin Grin!!

Don't know what I would do without this thread [sniff]

(Trying to post a bit more judiciously today though Grin!)

Just meant to say yesterday, sorry you ill, you definitely do not qualify for naughty corner!!

Toffee/Mercury Shock at Weightwatcher's wine! Wasn't aware such a think existed!

Toffee hope kitten continues to improve

Top marks to your other half Mercury

Swan think that cat prog might be on Thurs not Fri (or maybe both!)

Bitchy hope your ds likes his teacher (once he discovered who it was)

Jdub glad the pox is fading and you can get out and about again!

Blue hope you are ok. Ditto here re: food and exercise. MFP logging last week has highlighted the error of my ways in no uncertain terms - am eating and drinking too much and not exercising enough.

[Don't think 5:2 is a realistic proposition atm when I can't even stick to MFP daily limits!! Need to stop deluding myself.]

Kat, Lilleth and others - well done re: clothes decluttering

Whoknows hope clothes shopping wasn't too onerous and that you found some nice things

Pushme forgot to say, hope you can resolve stressful nanny situaton which sounds v. stressful

Huge wing flaps to eveyrone else!

Engelsemama · 10/06/2013 14:32

I have been rubbish at flying or keeping up with thread. Have done nothing in the house all weekend so decided, why stop now and took ds to the zoo today. Was lovely weather and made me feel good that we did something nice together. I'm terrible at playing with him at home. I end up ttying to fly, he gets bored anc then plays up/wrecks the house. He's still sleeping now, so once I get off MN I will...

Wash orom dress
Preoare dinner
Hotspots
Washing up
Hoover upstairs (when I'm ready for ds to get up!)

Will catch up properly soon. My new rule is no mning while ds us up, so will put tablet away until ds is in bed later!

CHBitchy · 10/06/2013 14:47

I have burn out. I shall be found in the naughty corner.

ToffeeWhirl · 10/06/2013 14:58

Castle - welcome back Smile

Ta da :

Swish and swipe in bathroom
Change bathroom towel
Home ed
Lunch

Also had a phone call from DS1's prospective school and we have been invited in with DS1 on Friday Smile. Have suggested a brief initial visit, with the proper interview to follow on Monday, as I know he will find it too much to go straight into the interview.

LillethTheCat · 10/06/2013 15:13

Hi everyone

Castle Welcome back, hope you are getting on ok.

Feeling really excited and Im not sure why. I had an email from an agency person asking if Id like to be considered for a role in a village 4 miles away from me. Its too perfect for me, there's no way Id be lucky enough to get the job would there? Please send me some positive vibes.

Also they said to keep in touch and if there was any jobs on the website I would like to apply for to email them. They may wish they never said that by the end of the week. I had started to give up on that website too. Looks like Ive got a task for tomorrow now (look at jobs posted on reed.com and email my contact to apply for them)

Yey to Mercury's DP.

Toffee Hope Kitty gets well soon and there is good news at the vets. Good luck with the interview on Friday at the potential new school.

JDub yey to the end of the Pox, and the cleaning of the bathroom too.

Blue & SC Ive been ignoring calories recently. I really need to get back into it. Hopefully now I can get some routine in my life I can think about that too. Weighed myself this morning and was more than before Sad Dont think my MacDonalds breakfast helped either.

Engels Might as well make the most of the weather while it is nice. Nothing wrong with the zoo instead of flying.

Well that's DD2 up and banging about, best go get her then to do the school run BBL

DorisShutt · 10/06/2013 16:38

Work sucks. That is all.

KatAndKit · 10/06/2013 16:41

Right, not too bad so far. Healthy eating not going too well today due to toddler party but otherwise a good day
Decluttered a whole carrier bag full from the bathroom - didn't clean the tub as 15 mins was up when I had finished the cupboard and removing old junk. Did clean around the sink taps though.
Mopped the kitchen and dining room floors as my home bleurgh for the day.
Received online shopping and put it away
Have prepared dinner so it just has to go in the oven.
Did not sort any baby clothes. Still not put away the clean washing but DS is being demanding so it will have to wait.

Castlelough · 10/06/2013 17:29

Just caught up with a week's worth of the thread! I'd just like to say Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks for all the kind and supportive messages from you all. I'm doing well and I saw a specialist gynae today who is going to run heaps of tests and support my next pregnancy from bfp onwards, so that is very encouraging. She thinks I may have PCOS...we'll have to see how the tests go.
Anyway enough blathering about me!

Am on the phone but just wanted to say a quick well done to all the dieters! You are all doing fantastically! Grin Ellie : 5 stone! Grin

Lileth that is wonderful about the job opportunity in your nearby village, and well done on getting the other job.

Toffee and Swan I'm enjoying the kitten stories. I think I may need to bring one of my cats to the vet to have another tooth out. They are both shedding hair like mad in the hot weather and the house is disgusting Blush.

SC yes I am very excited about my summer riding prospects. It will likely just be quiet hacking on roads, but GrinGrinGrin!

I can't scroll back on this but I will do some more personals later on xx

Castlelough · 10/06/2013 17:31

Oh and welcome to all the new fledglings! And Pushme well done on your thread leadership!

MercuryRising · 10/06/2013 19:34

Evening.

Welcome back castle Smile It is good news that you will have extra support all the way through your next pregnancy.

I found out that dp was a little more overzealous with the decluttering than I had realised at the weekend - he skipped our perfectly good patio set and dds trampoline which she regularly plays on. I had to bite my tongue - he really believed he was helping by getting rid of all the 'junk' in the garden! I think I will have to oversee his decluttering next time.

Ellie did you follow a particular diet to lose 5 stone - that is amazing!

Engels Im glad you had fun at the zoo. Dd keeps asking about going so I think I am going to plan a trip during the summer holidays.

I have had a reasonably productive day. I got my haircut so I can actually see where I am going again, did a food shop, bought a couple of presents for ds bday next week, conpleted morning routines, mission and home bleurgh, with the exception of changing sheets and mopping floors. I also met my ddad for lunch, took him to do his food shopping and took dd to her dance lesson. This evening I plan to do some more ironing whilst watching tv - I am determined to get the ironing mountain to fit in a single basket Hmm
