FLYing through April: Fledglings Spring into Action

GoingGoingGoth · 31/03/2013 17:38

Welcome to the April Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC, Blue & Silvery for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Bitchy spent a significant amount of time in A&E and has been told off for over doing things Blush nothing a good night's sleep won't fix. See you Monday for a list then. Wink

bakerofcakes · 06/04/2013 08:59

Take it easy Bitchy, have a relaxing weekend.

Made a good start when I came home from work yesterday and got three loads of washing done and hung on clothes horses to dry overnight. Also washed up, but then cooked tea so have another mountain of pots to face this morning.

As it's family fun day I am off out to lunch with my mum today. Will start the home bleugh when I get back (don't have time or energy to do it on Mondays). First load of washing is in, the pots are soaking then I am off for a nice lazy bath.

Other plans for the weekend include some garden decluttering, and I have some snowdrops to plant.

Done:

Washing
Put away huge pile of clean washing
Empty dishwasher
Reload dishwasher
Clear out lots of my junk from my mums house
Return a couple of things to shops
Take DD for scooter ride

Short list and still been procrastinating a few jobs from the week but they can wait. Hope everyone is having a nice Saturday! xXx

Ok, few bits there that I will do tonight (like shine sink and clean kitchen) and a few bots that will go on to tomorrows list.
Not bad going. Also been to the park. Ds1 has a friend staying over tonight, so they are watching Cars 2 and I'll finish off the bits I'm going to do now and then settle down with a mag before they go to bed and I can have the tv back Wink Smile
Hope everyone has had a good day.

GoingGoingGoth · 06/04/2013 22:29

Bitchy has been to A&E and has been told off for over doing things! Can't imagine why. Hopefully a weekends rest will rejuvenate her and some smaller lists for a while. Thanks Hope you feel better soon.

baker has been tackling Mount Washmore, some gardening and the weekly bleugh, but on the up side is having lunch with her mum, hope it was good.

Silvery is taking over as scary list poster, despite having a long lie in Envy I think you will deserve tonight's Wine

Ellie will have to name change from 'tryingtofly' as she seems to be getting the hang of it very quickly Grin

I was looking forward to a lie in this morning, however DH kindly woke me with a cup of tea at the normal time (grrr), before exclaiming "Oh, you're not at work today!" So I switched the washing machine on before crawling back in for another 2 hours. I've also started on the weekly bleugh and keeping on top of the laundry, but mainly had spent a few hours with DD at the library, Farmer's Market and park. Am hoping to do some baking with her tomorrow.

LINKS FOR SUNDAY 7TH APRIL

Babystep 7 is to lay out the next days clothes the night before. This is one I really should get into doing. I can manage it for DD but not myself!

No Mission as the Daily focus is Renew you spirit day. I like the idea of making sure that you set aside some time for yourself.

Flight plan for our routines, should update automatically

Morning all.

Not going to much flying today as going round to ILs for FIL's birthday. But, going for a 5k run first!

Yesterday was productive - sowed some seeds (chillis and peppers) to start off inside and DH made us a gate (not hung yet) so DS can play in the back garden without escaping onto the road. House is taking a bit of a back seat and I'm back to school tomorrow Sad

Sorry for lack of personals - out to pound the pavements now!

GoingGoingGoth · 07/04/2013 10:39

I really CBA. I'm out of tthe bath and in fresh pj's. Was hoping to do a few bits but mostly just lounge about.
Sods law it's a lovely day and I'll feel guilty for not getting out and doing something fun.

Engelsemama · 07/04/2013 13:16

Just back from ILs. DS in bed so after a little bit of MN time and a sandwich am going to get changed and go out into the garden for an hour or so. Lovely sunshine here at last so want to make the most of it.

urgh you are all being productive. In two days all I have managed is a trip to the hair dressers (cut and colour!) and a trip to see a few friends for coffee. I have only just woken up and am considering going back to sleep BUT am going to head out to the shops for some slightly stronger pain killers. doubt I will get much done though. :/

SilveryMoon · 07/04/2013 14:11

Hi bitchy You're supposed to be taking it easy. Good to hear you managed tgo get out to see friends and treat yourself to a new 'do.
Hope you do manage to get some stronger painkillers and start to feel better.

I think I'm setting myself up for a bit of failure. So, deciding that I need to add a job on every day that I will do regularly, and I know the more it gets done, the quicker it will be to maintain, but am I really going to clean the oven on the 4th of every month? When it's a work day?
I haven't got the time to do the misiions and the detailed cleaning, so normally just end up setting a 15min timer and do a mix of both, depending on what the mission is.
I find it hard to get round to all the jobs in each room, but again, it will be easier if I stick to the system won't it?

I also want to decorate. The place needs a touching up before we can sell it, but that's about 2 years off. Dp thinks I should wait and do it nearer the time so looks nice when we sell.

CHBitchy · 07/04/2013 14:21

based on the way rooms need doing here, tbh if you do it now it will need doing again for selling. especially based on the fact that ds has decided writing on the walls is a good thing. Hmm I'd say you are best to wait.

SilveryMoon · 07/04/2013 14:27

Thanks bitchy you and him are probably right. Once I get an idea in my head, it's usually full steam ahead though! Grin
That sucks about your ds drawing on walls. A lad in my class at work has been doing this and his parents are going to try to turn 1 wall into a whiteboard with the hope that when he is given an appropriate place, he will stop doing it everywhere.

CHBitchy · 07/04/2013 14:34

yeah that didn't help. ds is all or nothing. the chalk board on the wall has made things worse here. there are some interesting little messages though. Do you fancy getting the idea of doing my paperwork in you head? It needs sorting. and I hate paperwork thank you WinkGrin

SilveryMoon · 07/04/2013 14:37

Grin bitchy
That's how I reckon this boy will be with the white board thing. All or nothing. I don't think he can separate the fact that you can draw on one wall but not the others. Obviously, hope it works out for the parents sake.
Good luck with the wall thing, am sure both of you can agree on something. How old is your ds btw?

CHBitchy · 07/04/2013 14:52

8yo. tbh there have been bigger issues so it hasn't been dealt with due to choosing battles iyswim. he also likes to pick wall paper. drives me mad because he only does it in the hall and not his room. but there are worse things he can be doing

SilveryMoon · 07/04/2013 14:53

Absolutely bitchy pick your battles for sure.
