FLYing through April: Fledglings Spring into Action

GoingGoingGoth · 31/03/2013 17:38

Welcome to the April Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC, Blue & Silvery for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Still wanting to give the place a face-lift, and started a thread asking for ideas etc if anyone has anything to suggest........

Tomorrow I have to take the car to get the wheels balanced. Also spending the night at a friend's house. We are having a bit of a revival night, got some wine and going to watch Wayne's World and So I Married An Axe Murderer. Hilarious films. Can't wait!

CHBitchy · 11/04/2013 21:28

today I completely and utterly over did things. My entire body hates me but I am experience a level of inner calm that is unknown. Probably because I am so physically and emotionally exhausted I cba with anything. HmmGrin

CHBitchy · 11/04/2013 21:29

Oops sorry not sure how I managed to post that twice. bed is calling me...

GoingGoingGoth · 11/04/2013 21:45

Evening all, earlier start today, mainly because DD threw a massive strop and got sent to bed promptly, rather than the recently ever increasing bedtimes.

*EllieTTF' had a friend of her DD's visiting today, so was on a deadline to get her list done.

ellesabe bragged of having an early night and having energy! That's where am going round! Achieved a very good list, and was planning tummy exercises, I hate sit ups, which is probably why my muffin top is (to quote Sarah Miiligan) a cake shelf!

Silvery had a Bitchy-list and still managed a 3 hour nap!

Toffee is back and is ready to Fly. Hope DS1's treatment is sorted soon. And she is getting a cat! Just googled some images, the Balinese look beautiful and sound very child friendly. Would be nice to have an intelligent cat. Welcome to a world of servitude Grin I wouldn't be without my little cat.

feet's DS is not having a good day; broken favorite breakfast bowl, all his friends unavailable to play and his windowsill being requisitioned for plug plants (that last one, hopefully not such a big deal)

elliepac is getting back into flying, but ended up babysitting her BF's dcs, undoing all progress, on the plus side she's 'loosing' hers for a sleepover.

Castle is having an early birthday night in with her DH.

Blue hasn't stopped at all today, another marvellous list and good declutter.

Engels has had a manic day at work and a MIL in hospital (hope she gets better soon), so not achieved much flying. But being on top of washing & washing up is always a good thing.

Morning all.

elliepac Your to do list is how my to do list looks permanently (there never seems to be an end to schoolwork!).

Enjoy your evening silvery sounds ace! I went to the cinema with a friend on Wed for the first time since before DS was born. I felt young and carefree Grin

bitchy hope you are having a chill out day - you sound like you need it.

feet I had forgotten that you lived in your DH's childhood home. We live next door to my DH's childhood home (where ILs live) and our house was his GPs home (FIL's childhood home) so I totally understand what you mean about all the clutter (both physical and emotional) you have to fight against. I have lived here 6 years and it has taken that long for me to manage to take out the 2 dead roses that have been in our front garden. DH took so long to "allow' me to remove them for sentimental reasons (his DGF, who is no longer with us and he was very close to, planted them).

Ta da
Supermarket shop
Skyped DM
Rang DGM who is v.ill Sad
Washing on
Changed DS bed

To do
Mission (my kitchen floor is disgusting!) and daily focus (maybe I will finally get around to hoovering my car)
Hoover
Change our bed
hang washing up to dry
Yesterday's wash away
5 mins hotspot
File paperwork generated from clearing hotspot!
What's for dinner (fish pie)
Do 5k run this evening as couldn't last night (DH was at hospital visiting DMIL so I couldn't go out).
Go to hospital after dinner to see DMIL
While DS is asleep either schoolwork or gardening
Water plants
Finish putting away rest of shopping
Clean coffee table
Email Dsis
Empty bins
Post letter (has been in my handbag for a week)
Print some photos of DS for DGM, DMIL and DM (and us!)
Another load of washing

Engelsemama · 12/04/2013 11:24

Oops! Phantom post has been resurrected! (but at least it saves me having to wrack my brains as to what was on my list!)

Ellietryingtofly · 12/04/2013 11:43

Ta da:
Pick up DD from DM
Reload dishwasher
Clear rubbish
Help DD with some homework

To do:
Get out of bath!
Get dressed etc and meet friends for lunch
Kitchen floor (I usually use those wipes on it but will do a proper clean because it needs it!)
Go to lakeland (oh dear, never a good idea to let me lose in there)
Clear car
Clean handbag
Washing
Put away washing (which is currently dumped on DDs bed, oops)
Wash/change my bedding
Shine sink
SS bathroom (I do it later in the day, usually evening)
Wipe round bath
Clean inside windows
help DD with one more homework sheet
Sleep

That's more than enough for the last day of the holiday! I've procrastinated so much I haven't done any school work so will have to do my planning either tonight or over the weekend. Oops! Hope everyone has a good day! xXx

CHBitchy · 12/04/2013 13:08

there was sleep and now there is stuff to do. going to start with a small ta da list and some coffee...

ta da
internet stuff (email/fb/twitter etc etc)
sort out arrangements for tomo
very gently stretch a few achy muscles.

I had forgotten how good proper training like that makes me feel!!!!! Will be back later. Good luck to all with school work to do!

BlueEyeshadow · 12/04/2013 13:56

Whoop! The skip people have come and taken away all the dead bathroom stuff, a cutdown tree and all the bag of cables but one kettle lead!

SilveryMoon · 12/04/2013 14:14

TaDa
Up and made beds _all but ds2's who wet the bed. Bed stripped
Swished and swiped
Showered and dressed
Got breakfast and cleared away
Laundry x2
Rubbish out
Took car to have wheels balanced
Wrapped presents for a birthday party tomorrow
Brought some paint and the JML painter thingy here

To Do
Washing up
Detail - finish wiping the kitchen walls.
Pack an overnight bag for tonight.
Dress ds2's bed
Drive to friend's - via the booze section at Tesco (I will obs not drive in there, just to there first Wink)
Once at friend's, put pj's on, pizza in oven, pour the wine, watch So I Married An Axe Muderer (she couldn't find Wayne's World Angry Sad)
Eat loads and chat shit.
Pass out.

Dp has decided he wants to paint the kitchen first. I have decided on colours for the living room.
Going to keep magnolia (but fresh coat) but have one wall of this colour. Then add some similarly coloured cushions to the sofa.
I'm also going to re-cover the dining chair seats with green fabric but maybe different patterns (plain, striped, different shades), get a nice table cloth (maybe a subtle garden/flower type) and add a green lightshade.
What do you think?

SilveryMoon · 12/04/2013 16:07

FFS, I just got a bit of bleach on my top. It's a fairly new one and I like it (although a pita to iron - silvery lining there). It now has a small white spec toward the shoulder. The top is grey.

mrsbugsywugsy · 12/04/2013 17:16

bugger, just typed a huge post then lost it!

I'm just bumbling along now, trying to keep up with the babysteps and declutter every day. I've got a huge pile of stuff to eBay and have already made £90. I'm putting the money into dd's account and my motivation is to save money for her while on maternity leave.
