February Fledglings FLYing High

Welcome to the February Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of Wine and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC for leading us through January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted Grin.

So come along in and park your dusters ready for Feb!

Yes but Nicknacks you have also worked today. I haven't. Although hitting the job search in a short while. So there is no comparison. If i didn't have a decent list I would be Blush as i really wouldn't have achieved anything. Although post next to me tomo my list will be short and flakey Wink

Cuddledup · 04/02/2013 19:47

Just popping for a quick list dump:

Ta da

TO DO
If I can be bothered - put away laundry mountain and shave legs with rusty razor.

Bedtime routine - no idea what to wear tomorrow Confused
Go to bed ridiculously early and watch prog about Richard III

Top tip (borrowed from my RL Flying Friend)
I now have a control journal notebook which I keep with my diary. It works! I can jot things down to do in my CJ notebook for the appropriate day e.g.: pay bills on Wednesday -antiprocrastination day. It's working !!

HOpe you've all had a good day -despite sickness and it being a Monday.

NIght night all Brew

GoingGoingGoth · 04/02/2013 19:53

bakerofcakes · 04/02/2013 20:12

Hi fledglings

have had a busy weekend, plenty of flying and lots of babysitting done. I caught up with last week's missions and did my home bleugh on Sunday. Busy day at work today and spent the evening uploading photos to Photobox so only done basic routines today.

Jamillalliamilli · 04/02/2013 21:18

Remote control operates stretcher into naughty corner. I'm stuffed. I have one half working limb out of a possible four, and too much pain to even do flat on back stuff. If I was an animal I'd be put out of my misery!

_ Still to do_
anesthetise self
teach ds basics of shirt ironing
anesthetise self
Listen to friend
anesthetise self
sleep

BitchyDragons · 04/02/2013 21:35

Just ShockSad sorry you are in sooo much pain and suffering so much.

yeah well it's freezing out there, thought the naughty corner needed cosying up

BlueEyeshadow · 04/02/2013 22:46

Oh Just, sorry to hear that. :(

Was coming on to moan about having a bit of a lurgy and feeling generally crap, but seems wrong now.

Still, need to get to bed so will just do quick links and try and be back properly tomorrow.

*
Babystep 5 - the power of positive thinking.

Mission - scrub down the counter tops. I actually find this one rather cathartic!

Tuesday is plan and play day.

Night all!

Back this evening.

feetheart · 05/02/2013 07:04

Just - I hope you got some decent sleep and feel a bit better today. Lots of good MN vibes to you.

Bitchy - mmmm, log fire, snuggly :)
Hope DS had a great birthday

Toffee - no wonder he is fed up, that's rubbish. At least I know DS is being stretched. However he did come out yesterday and very sorrowfully said that he was sure today would be a 'headache day'. When questioned he told me which teachers he would be having because his teacher was away - he is probably going to be right as the class is much noisier when she isn't there :(
What would happen if you talked to teacher about what he is saying? Is she still the one you had huge run-ins with DS1?

MrsPennyapple - I had to retrieve DH's fleece from high up in the apple tree, using a long bamboo cane Shock. Hope you didn't have to wash anything again.

Didn't get much of my list done yesterday as ended up talking/listening to a friend who is having a bit of a rough time. At least I felt useful as a sounding board. So list for today may be a little repetitive:

  • Order crafty stuff for DD's birthday sleepover - we are having an owl theme :) done
  • All up and out
  • S&S, washing up, etc
  • Soup and salmon out of freezer for tonight - easy dinner night
  • Errands for surrogate granny
  • Try not to stay at surrogate granny's for too long afterwards
  • WORK - monthly invoices, bank rec, etc
  • Reading at school
  • DS and DH to Beavers, DD to Brownies
  • 45mins to myself if I'm lucky - ebay listing
  • Ironing

That's more than enough!
Have a good day everyone, without too much snow, wind, etc.

BitchyDragons · 05/02/2013 08:28

list update
dig car out of snow - road conditions back not bothering
training - snowed in
hospital run snowed in
ds to training ds poorly unlikely to happen
bed

New to do list: sleep

BitchyDragons · 05/02/2013 08:34

*bad road conditions not back.

GoingGoingGoth · 05/02/2013 08:34

Morning all, slow start today, didn't sleep, and can't be arsed to be honest.

Am slowly getting Dd ready, whilst considering going back to bed.

to do
Change DD's bedding
Put laundry on
Put away dry clothes
Finish crotchet ing DD's jumper

Snowgirl1 · 05/02/2013 08:55

Morning all

Just sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly.

I managed to finish my list yesterday so am feeling quite pleased with myself. Maybe I'm just writing more realistic lists?

Done so far:
Up, showered etc.
Sandwiches made
Bed made
Out to work

Still to do:
Ring building society to make appointment
Ring doctor's to make an appointment
Put tomorrow's clothes out
Hang washing out
Put another load of washing on
Mission - clean worktops
15 mins decluttering or detailed cleaning
Go for a run (it's time the head torch I got for Christmas got pressed into action!)
Maybe put some stuff on eBay

Hope you all have productive days!

Jdub · 05/02/2013 09:32

Hello everybody,
It's so cold but so pretty here today - such a breath of fresh air to see sunshine and blue sky!

I managed last night to sort dodgy drawer number one, and found receipts and filing in there from WAY, WAY back! My house is a lot of paper lighter this morning!!

done
chuck paper in recycling!
all up, dressed, rooms aired, beds made, fed and out on time.
d/w emptied

to do
laundry away
dust lounge
meal plan/food out of freeze/pulses in to soak
sort 2nd dodgy drawer and box in bedroom
clean upstairs bathroom
one load of washing

Take care and have a good day!

ToffeeWhirl · 05/02/2013 09:41

Feet - yes, it's the same teacher. We have parents' evening coming up soon, so I could raise the matter then. How do I phrase it so that I don't sound like I'm a) criticising her and b) I have delusions of grandeur about my son? I dread sounding like one of those people who used to come into the bookshop, during my bookselling days, and say, "My son is a very advanced reader, you know...." . Funny how everyone's children was so advanced Hmm. But DS has just finished reading the David Walliams' books at home (highly recommend, by the way) and is being given books like 'The Little Red Train' at school.

Also, the class has frequent supply teachers because the class teacher is busy organising school events. There were supply teachers all last week (different one every day) because the teacher was ill (not that she can help that). And there was another one there today because she's doing her paperwork. DS2 quietly puts up with it, but I don't think it's good for any of the children there and how can the teacher know what level the children are at if they she isn't there? Confused

Sorry for thread hijack everyone. Forgot this was a Flying thread for a minute there Blush.

Just - so sorry you are suffering Sad. That sounds awful. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Ellie - And you too. You are a trooper going in to school again today.

Got to get ready for DS1's Maths tutor now. Room rescue required! BBL.

LillethTheCat · 05/02/2013 09:47

Morning, lovely sunny morning, but there has been a bit of snow here, not much and hardly anything (much to the disappointment of DD1).

tada

  • Turn on Washing Machine
  • make beds
  • Wash up after breakfast

to do

  • 2nd load
  • Dry Laundry
  • Put laundry away
  • Wash up 2X
  • Shine Sink
  • Tidy up room after DCs are in bed
  • Get tomorrows clothes ready
  • tomorrow's list
  • 5 min cupboard room rescue
  • Fill out form for voluntary work
  • Go to running club weather permitting
  • Fill Washing machine ready for Wed
  • Daily Mission (wish Id looked last night as I would have done it straight from washing up. Now Ive sat down, but will have to get up again now to do it, as right now is the best time, so off I go)

Sorry to hear you are in pain Just hope it wears off soon.

Will be back later with a proper catch up, must go and do kitchen sides now.

BitchyDragons · 05/02/2013 10:07

Toffee they can't and tbh I would be unhappy with that class setup. Very unhappy. No wonder ds2 is not feeling great about school.

ToffeeWhirl · 05/02/2013 11:39

No, it's not good, is it, Bitchy? DS1 used to go ballistic about school, which means DS2's quiet complaints have been easy for me to overlook in comparison, but now I'm worried. I think he just puts up with it every day. Poor boy. Am not sure how much can change there, to be honest. Am tempted to start looking at other schools again .

Not much Flying done here so far. I did sort the kitchen out before bed last night (DH busy listening to music and reading whilst I was putting DSs to bed Hmm), so there wasn't much to do this morning, apart from washing up and swishing and swiping in the bathroom. Feeling knackered today after failing to get much sleep last night, so have a very small list:

Home ed
Lunch
Nap if possible
School run
Special time with DS2 to cheer him up
Dinner
Washing up
Pilates class
Wine
Zzzzz

ToffeeWhirl · 05/02/2013 11:41

Just re-read my earlier post. That should read: 'funny how everyone's child was so advanced' not children. Tsk tsk. And me a proofreader too.

NickNacks · 05/02/2013 12:12
