February Fledglings FLYing High

Welcome to the February Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of Wine and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC for leading us through January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted Grin.

So come along in and park your dusters ready for Feb!

Argh DH dropped DD at school, says she got grumpy as one of her friends asked which was her favourite: JLS or One Direction. She was embarrassed as she doesn't know who they are. We don't listen to the radio/watch music videos, I just hate this stuff. But now I feel bad, as I was always the kid at school who didn't know the latest bands, as my parents listened to Radio 2 or their 60's albums (I appreciate it now)

Teacher wasn't in today so I covered. Only had 3 children in, so not a bad day! Although I got into my classroom and there was piles of crap everywhere. The teacher is so disorganised, I find it very difficult to work in an environment that is cluttered with utter crap.
I try to keep the classroom organised and tidy, I didn't go in the last day of last half term and there is shit everywhere.
His planning is crap, mostly just cut and pasted so it doesn't even match anything or make sense, so this morning I had to figure out which planning was for this week (every piece of planning on the system has the same date on it, 18th Nov or something like that) then there was no work or resources to go with what was stated on the planning, so I had to make it all up and I'm a bit fed up of it.
I have a mind to go and tell someone. He's not in tomorrow either, so spent a while after school searching for work for them to do tomorrow.
It's all well and good saying a TA can cover the teacher because you work off the planning, but even when I find planning it's mostly white board stuff. So frustrating.

Had a talk with DD over music to find out if she was bothered over the JLS or One Direction thing earlier. She said she didn't like either of them (phew) but she did like 'the guy in black, who dances, and says gangsta' NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Time to dust off Queen & Iron Maiden Grin

LillethTheCat · 25/02/2013 20:32

Who's that Goth

My DS likes Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars. Along with Maroon 5 and our power ballads CD. he did say he wanted a One Direction easter egg at one point

DD1 likes disney songs.

GoingGoingGoth · 25/02/2013 21:48

Hi Lilleth it's the Gangnam Style guy! She must have seen it at a friend's house, because I know she's not seen it here. Could be worse, could be Bieber.

GoingGoingGoth · 25/02/2013 21:51

I love Disney songs too.

DD's favourite album is Charlie & Lola, oh yes, we sing along to 'we've got a chicken' Grin

BlueEyeshadow · 25/02/2013 23:07

Evening all. Had DS2 at home today so didn?t get as much done as I?d have liked. He?ll be back at nursery tomorrow though. Phew.

Cleaned kitchen

Silvery - kindly offered to run the March thread - Thanks ? and had a stressful day at work. Hope tomorrow is better.

Feet was having a house reclamation / school assoc day and doing house bleugh to keep warm.

Snowgirl - don?t feel guilty, as the Fat Fairy says, just jump in where you are.

Jdub had brought some order to the half term chaos. :)

Going was worrying about her DD and musical education. Ours are blissfully unaware of all that, thankfully. Although DS1 (age 6) can identify Justin Bieber from the lunchboxes of girls in his class. Shock Have also had to put up with Gangnam Style at 4-y-o birthday parties twice in two weeks? [weeps]

Bitchy had nice short lists.

Lilleth - was feeling a bit more positive about the course and getting things done.

Special was also getting on with things.

*
Babystep 26 is to read the last sentence of the Fat Fairy?s emails Hmm (think that?s the bit about not being behind ? anybody know?)

Mission is looking for hidden rubbish in the sitting room.
*

Have a good Tuesday everyone! Night all.

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 26/02/2013 00:30

Hidden rubbish? Does that mean I should pull the sofas out? :-( crap.

superfluouscurves · 26/02/2013 07:39

Morning my lovelies! Hope you are all OK.

Thanks so much for offering to run thread in March Silvery!
A warm welcome to Special Circumstances

Things still a bit stressful here (mil funeral delayed until Mon 4th - no room at crematorium until then ...). And I managed to add to dh's stress by contracting some sort of vicious noro-type virus last Thurs night and passed out on the bathroom floor on Friday morning! Thankfully getting better now although still feeling a bit weak and feeble... . Poor dh - he was an absolutely hero throughout. Maniacally bleaching taps and handles now so that no-one else gets in [fingers crossed]. Oh, and I'm still sewing costumes madly ....

Thanks for round-ups Blue - wouldn't have a clue what everyone was up to otherwise!!

superfluouscurves · 26/02/2013 07:41

gets 'it'

Trazzles haven't visited your other thread recently - must do so - but thinking of you xxx

Big wing flaps to everyone!

Jdub · 26/02/2013 09:34

Good morning lovely folk,

Today I resolve to keep to my list when I get in from work (and not be swallowed up by the sofa and a book!)

Beavers

Have a good day everyone x

GoingGoingGoth · 26/02/2013 09:54

Good morning all

SC hope you feel better soon, and that everything goes well with the funeral. Must be difficult waiting.

Waiting for water to be switched off for a couple of hours, hopefully soon the boiler will be sorted. Although it does seem to have been working ok recently. Will use it for an excuse to go into the city, need to get some stuff anyway.Smile

Jamillalliamilli · 26/02/2013 10:27

I did the most amazing crisis cleaning and clearing the other day, a la fly lady, and it really made a difference. Unfortunately it wasn?t actually my home. Grin
I also did a great list of personals to catch up with everyone and then forgot to post it! Blush

So just going for saying:

Hello to Special circumstances

Silvery Congratulations on the driving test!

ToffeeThere is definitely hope for you, I?ve taught several people with ASD who?s co-ordination, motor control and spatial awareness were barriers. Learning of road can often be the answer.

SC things sound very difficult for you all, but well done dp, and I hope you get your strength back soon.

Jdub Good luck with resolve.

Apologies to everyone else but if I don?t get down to insurance unit they?ll be sending out search parties.

Jamillalliamilli · 26/02/2013 10:28

Good luck with boiler. Goth

ToffeeWhirl · 26/02/2013 10:47

Argh! Just lost my post thanks to MN going offline. Angry

ToffeeWhirl · 26/02/2013 10:53

Don't have time to do it all over again, so just a general wave to all of you lovely fledglings.

Except to say, SC, sorry you are having a rubbish time. That noro-virus is hell on earth. I hope the funeral goes well and that none of you are ill again.

Just - thanks for the encouragement about driving.

Ta da :

DH lit woodburner first thing
DH switched boiler on again (Goth - our boiler needs sorting too. It's leaking Sad)

ToffeeWhirl · 26/02/2013 11:30

Hurray! Plumber rang and is coming out today. Phew.

LillethTheCat · 26/02/2013 12:36

Hi everyone.

If Im doing courses, should I be looking for work? Im asking because my business and admin course I am doing is definately level 1 until July then in Sept I can go onto level 2 which is NVQ and will require 17 hours a week in work experience.

Also in 18 months not only will I have level 2 NVQ in business and Admin, but also levels 2 and 3 in AAT and hopefully (if I can find one at a decent time) ECDL levels 1 and 2 (Have got level 1 now). I also might be able to enroll on level 4 AAT.

I feel a little guilty though if I stop looking for work (although I must admit I could try harder) for 18 months while I gain some qualifications. Id be surviving on benefits and not paying my way IYSWIM and this isn't right is it?

What do you honestly think? Should I still look for work (and be a bit more active) or should I hold off for 18 months and gain some qualifications?

Anyway today's list so far

tada

  • Make beds
  • Turn on washing machine
  • Dry Laundry
  • Put laundry away
  • Wash up after breakfast
  • 15 mins DS bedroom (it looks a lot better now, surprising how much difference 15 mins makes)
  • pop into town

to do

  • Wash up after lunch
  • Shine Sink if DH washes up after tea (Im not home till nearly 10PM)
  • Fill washing machine for Wed
  • coursework
  • Go to AAT course.

SC sorry to hear you are ill and there is a wait for the funeral. Its always the waiting that feels like one of the hardest parts. Just need to pay respects and say bye. Hope it doesn't feel too long for you.

Goth We got now 83 just before Christmas for the DCs and my ipod is subjected to Gangam style.

silvery thanks for offering to do the March thread.

BBL

superfluouscurves · 26/02/2013 14:05

Thanks for kind words everyone . You are all luv-er-ly [sniff]

Just how typically kind of you to crisis clean someone else's house!!

Lilleth to be strictly honest, wait not hard on me (mil and I were not close) but sil taking it v badly and it all adds to general stress I suppose. Good luck with study v work decision (sorry, don't feel qualified to comment). Hope you can come to the right solution for you.

Toffee Agree, noro is evil. Still going through a few waves of wretchedness (feeling weak 5 days on with swimmy bits - flashing lights before the eyes type thing) - although stomach seems to be back to normal-ish thank heavens.

Like the sound of a Victorian Flylady thread btw!! [Looks for flannel drawers distribution point/searches for boot button hook Grin]

Goth/Toffee hope hot water restored soon

Waves to Jdub and eveyrone else!
