February Fledglings FLYing High

Welcome to the February Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of Wine and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC for leading us through January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted Grin.

So come along in and park your dusters ready for Feb!

LillethTheCat · 17/02/2013 17:42

Evening everyone.

tada

  • Strip bed/s (havent decided if Im doing them all yet or just ours. Might not have time for DCs on Monday this week so might have to do one or two tomorrow)
  • wash bedding
  • Dry bedding
  • remake beds
  • Wash up 2X
  • Go for 5 mile run (plan is to run 10, walk 2 repeatedly. Might run 15 though)
  • sneak a pack of crisps while waiting for bath to run (well I did go 5 and half mile, plus walk the dog)
  • long soak in bath

to do

  • Wash up after tea
  • Shine Sink
  • early night

Had a lovely Sunday. Got up at 8. Did a couple of things (mainly wash up all the pots from breakfast and last night), sat down for a couple of hours entering some competitons. Had lunch (left over pasta) washed up, went for a run.

Its been ages since I have ran round here. I usually avoid it as I live in the country and the lack of pavements mean its either muddy fields or on the road. I really enjoyed it.

I had planned to run 10 mins, walk 2. But at the end before what would be my last 10 min run I decided to run 5 mins and walk 1 then run another 5 mins and walk the rest of the way home (about 3 mins or so), but I decided it was so peaceful listening to the birds enjoying the countryside that I missed out on my last 5 mins and walked instead. My thought was that it was so lovely why waste it by running Grin

Ive just had a nice soak in the bath and now waiting for my tea which DH is cooking. I plan to wash up, shine sink and be upstairs by 8 to watch Once upon a time and the 3 episodes of 2 Broke Girls. Then to go to sleep just after 10 for my early night.

Now the question is do I do this every sunday or will it become a bit meh if I did? Definately done the Sunday mission of renewing my spirit. Its a good thing as I have a busy week coming up so its just basics all week for me.

Sorry it was a bit long winded Ive just had a good day and wanted to share

Hi Jess and welcome back castle

Waves to everyone else. Have a good evening everyone

Snowgirl1 · 17/02/2013 20:13

LPlateFlyer · 18/02/2013 09:37

Blue - thanks for the roundups!

Bitchy - how on earth did you have chocolate left over from last Easter? The only way I would have any left is if I had lost it!!!

Lilleth - I?ve never been good at being on the (exercise) bike, could only ever last about 5 minutes. But with my ankle I?ve been banned from the treadmill so am trying to spend more time on the exercise bike, but 15 mins is still my limit!! Glad you had a lovely Sunday.

Ellie - hope the party went well

Silvery - those baby steps are the bane of my life!!! I just can?t keep up with them. I?m on the same page as Bitchy in that early nights need to be my focus. (Although I don?t think my late nights are as bad as hers!)

Trazzle - so sorry everyone has let you down with keeping the house tidy. Not something you should be worrying about while needing to be in hospital with your DS.

Goth - how lovely and generous of DD to share with you!!! Hmm Hope you?re feeling better soon.

Today?s mission ? spend 15 minutes getting rid of anything that doesn?t belong in your bedroom ? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!! I spent 15 minutes on it this morning and it barely made a dent! Hmm

Ah well?. 15 minutes at a time.

I?ve been thinking about why I?ve been so rubbish at getting and staying organised/tidy. I grew up in a very cluttered house, my DM and DF were both really bad at decluttering their things, yet had absolutely no compunction about getting rid of MY things. Hmm The amount of my belongings that would just vanish was quite astounding, and really sad. They didn't necessarily value what I valued. I think it has a lot to do with why I find it hard to get rid of things now. They also were completely unable to enjoy ?downtime? and all time had to be spent ?valuably?. I would feel guilty watching tv, reading fiction, or anything that wasn?t ?productive? (particularly church related).

I think I have a bit of emotional decluttering to do, actually!!!

Anyway-
Tada:
1 load of wash into dryer
1 load of wash into washing machine
Dishwasher emptied
15 minutes decluttering in bedroom

To do:
Survive half term Shock
A few 15 minute decluttering sessions in different parts of the house

Engelsemama · 18/02/2013 09:44

Morning fledglings
Bitchy so, what did you decide re: sanity? Wink

Hope everyone enjoys half term. Mine is over! Back to school tomorrow. But at least I feel more like a human being. The despair seems to have passed (I am going to see my GP about PMT/pill next month if it happens again ? I was a crazy sobbing wreck at the end of last week, nto a pattern I want to continue).

Ta da
Washing on
Email to travel agents
Tasks for school (book list, emailed students)

To do
Washing in td
Clean desk
Washing up
Handwash
Go into town to buy pretty things. Pop into supermarket on way back
Set of marking this afternoon
Change DS bed
Post letter
Prepare SLC form ? scan pay slips etc.
Finish off school planning for tomorrow ? staging Shakespeare for drama class (downloading Ganganam style?don?t ask) and poetry collection for (equivalent) year 9 class ? does anyone have any suggestions for fun but ever so slightly deep poems? My brain is exhausting its stock!
Do today?s mission! (Harder since DH is home ill today and is still sleeping, but reckon he?ll be up later)
What?s for dinner? I?m thinking lasagne.

Watching Dumbo while I work this morning. DS doesn?t seem to impressed, though he was just dancing to Pink Elephants on Parade Grin

Have just had a lovely email forwarded from my Headteacher with really positive feedback from a parent of 2 of my students. Has really made my day (and made going back to work tomorrow a whole lot easier!).

silvery I did actually mean having to go out at 4pm yesterday. I also had to get up at 4am for getting out the house at 5am today. I get to repeat this tomo too.

Goth not entirely certain it was worth it right now but perhaps i will have a different perspective on it once sleep has been had?

Engels I think sanity is long gone tbh Grin

Lplate yeah see that is how i have chocolate leftover. It was put in a safe place. It would have been long gone here otherwise too. hides evidence of the creme eggs she ate earlier and continues to ignore diet she should be on cos really that is the least of her problems right now

ta da
