February Fledglings FLYing High

Welcome to the February Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of Wine and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC for leading us through January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted Grin.

So come along in and park your dusters ready for Feb!

Evening all. Dp bought the tesco meal deal.
Don't think he planed for me to be sent home from work ill and be laying in bed with hot water bottle and thumping head ache.
Was looking forward to that bottle of wine. :-(

BitchyDragons · 14/02/2013 17:11

Caffine has about hit

ToffeeWhirl · 14/02/2013 19:06

Oh, Silvery, sorry you are ill too .

Thanks for the Brew, Bitchy, but am on the Wine now Grin.

Ta da :

Swish and swipe
Home ed with reluctant DS1
Various negotiations with DS2 so that he would let us work
Lunch
Washed our bedclothes
Hung them out to dry (first time this year)
Room rescue in kitchen
Room rescue in DS2's bedroom
Room rescue in our bedroom
Dumped piles of dry washing on ironing board Sad
Cooked chicken casserole (DH came home from work early and was feeling too ill to get any meal deals)
Poured Wine

So glad it's half term next week. We all need a break from the routine.

Cuddledup · 14/02/2013 19:28

You're right - we're all ill! I'm also coughing and spluttering. CBA to do any flying at all - I'm concentrating on de cluttering the wine stash! Get better soon y'all. XX

PS My boss went to North Carolina this week_ home of the Purple Lady- but I managed to resist asking him to get me some purple rags and all the other purple paraphernalia!

Must away my glass is dry Wine (Good thing I didn't give up wine for Lent!)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/02/2013 21:12

.

Everyone fit and well here, but it's half term next week so someone's bound to get ill.

Just eaten an M&S meal deal with DH with the DCs still up and about (we were starving) so not very romantic but it was nice. A glass of wine has made me feel all drowsy now (I'm a very occasional drinker lightweight).

Not much Flying today, been at work, then DS had football this evening.

BlueEyeshadow · 14/02/2013 21:59

Good evening one and all.

Today?s been quiet both on the thread and in real life.

Jdub was looking forward to a fab chore-free feast. :)

Toffee had a DH back to work and a DS still off sick, and had moved onto the Wine.

Bitchy was veering between sleep and caffeine and trying to get things in the post.

Lilleth and Going popped in with quick lists.

Silvery has gone down with the lurgy :( - hope you feel better soon.

Cuddled was decluttering the Wine too and resisted asking her boss for souvenirs from the land of the Fat Fairy.

WhoKnows had an unromantic but tasty meal deal and was last seen heading for the naughty corner with a face mask on?

*
Woohoo, it?s Friday tomorrow! That?s declutter your handbag and car day, and also date night.

Babystep 15 is to add making your bed to your morning routine.

Mission is bathroom skirting boards and an inventory of office supplies.

Big waves to all, and hope all the poorly people are feeling better soon.

BitchyDragons · 14/02/2013 23:49

Thank fuck tomo is friday!

NickNacks · 15/02/2013 08:27

Good morning!

Are people feeling better yet?

Bitchy are you not having a good night?

I, despite having to work, had a good day!

I bought DH some personalised cupcakes, he bought me a dozen red roses, and we had a meal got two from M & S and an early night ;) Not an expensive day but we enjoyed it all the same :)

Today I will be working (8.30-3pm) as its inset day but house I'd a bit untidy. Eek!

Quick today
One wash and dry
Wash lots of pans
Make beds
Hoover sitting room
Beaver/cub runs

BitchyDragons · 15/02/2013 09:28

Thursdays are just a long day in this house. Then today is the day where i have to play nice and be incredibly civil and grown up when I just want to scream fuck the fuck off and when you get there fuck off some more. But can't.
In theory this is my child free weekend when i can relax a little bit. Unfortunately it seems there has been a planning fail and i have more to achieve this weekend then i would normally do in one week. And the washing machine is broken so i shall have to do a load in the bath tub the old fashioned way Hmm

Need to hit the ground running

NickNacks · 15/02/2013 09:39

Oh sorry it's a bit shit at the moment bitchy :(

Will join you on the vat of Brew if that's ok? I have 6 here today and feeling a headache coming on...

Engelsemama · 15/02/2013 09:40

Still ill here Sad That makes the whole half term and then back to work next week...sod's law.

Am currently scoffing shortbread to make myself feel better Wink

LPlateFlyer · 15/02/2013 09:44

Hi everyone, think I've been awol for over a month this time! Blush

House is in chaos, life is in chaos..... eeek!!!

Starting a new business with two others, and juggling the work required to set up with no money coming in to actually pay for some decent childcare is taking its toll. DH is trying to help, and has been brilliant, but I need to get the house sorted and routines established or everything will come crashing down in a heap.

Sigh... how many times have I said this before though???!!!

Right, 2 hours of crisis cleaning coming up, then a last supper (lunch) with some friends before we can no longer have lunches and have to move to catching up over dinner (work commitments for 2 of the 3 of us).

LPlateFlyer · 15/02/2013 09:46

Sorry you're facing such a rubbish day and weekend, bitchy

Hope you feel better soon, Engels

NickNacks - 6?! You'll need more than a vat of Brew!!!

ToffeeWhirl · 15/02/2013 09:49

A reluctant DS2 went back to school today. House seems very quiet now Smile.

To do :

Home ed
Discuss outings with DS1
Library
Do morning routines on return
Lunch
School run

Sorry you have been ill all half term, Engels Sad.

And sorry you are having a tough day and that the washing machine has broken, Bitchy. Hope you can get it sorted soon.

NickNacks - that sounds like a lovely Valentine's Day Smile.

Thanks for the round up, Blue. It was unusually quiet on the thread yesterday. I expect everyone was too busy cleaning to post Wink.

I have done today's babystep and made my bed .

Hope everyone has a good day.

GoingGoingGoth · 15/02/2013 11:28

Swigs back mug of Bitchy's [brew now that hits the spotGrin
You're not having much luck atm, is your heating working properly now? Hope the washer is soon sorted, I've done a bath wash before, it's getting the bloody stuff rung out properly which I hate.

Hope everyone with the lurgy or poorly DC's are feeling better.

We have glorious sunshine in Glasgow, I have all my windows open, and am in a cleaning mood today. DH keeps moving in case I dust him.

Done
Beds
Windows
Dd ready & taken to school
Washing up
Scrubbed window ledge (where bird feeders sit)
Washed bird feeder
Emptied recycling
Washed recycling bag - now drying on window ledge.
Washed & changed litter tray -have very grateful cat, he was getting desperate while I waited for tray to dry!
Gave bathroom full clean- all missions this week
Vacuumed flat
Washed kitchen & bathroom floor, by hand, mop head broke.

Just trying to decide if it's worth hanging washing outside, sun still not in back garden & no breeze.

So finishing Brew and then start again.

ToffeeWhirl · 15/02/2013 17:13

Well, mine hid in a box in the loft, Bitchy. Does this help? Wink

BitchyDragons · 15/02/2013 18:05

Yeah those boxes are down. In theory it is here somewhere. But seeing as I am finding a shit load of paperwork i though i had already dealt with but clearly haven't it could be bloody anywhere. However, I have control of the remote and the house to myself... Paperwork sorting is not exactly my idea of fun but i am sure i will be grateful once it is done. Hmm
