Disorganised Procrastinators sign in here........

DillyDallyDawdle · 29/12/2012 12:56

I procrastinate.......about everything (see, I'm doing it now - DH is out with the DD's and I could be in the shower, putting the washing mountain away or filing the paperwork, but I'm not, I'm on here starting this thread).

My house is full of junk, nothing has a place, I have a to do list a mile long and nothing ever gets done until the last minute because I am so disorganised, often meaning that I lose opportunities, money etc.

A lot has happened this year - I went back to work after maternity, my job has changed due to my boss retiring and now has more responsibility, my eldest has started school and in a moment of madness I have managed to volunteer to get the school PTFA set up properly and charity registered and myself elected as secretary.

Things HAVE to change and soon otherwise the precariously balanced house of cards that is my life will collapse with disastrous consequences for mine and my families lives.

So, I know that new years resolutions usually don't last much past 5th January, and getting myself organised is a resolution I have made many a year past and failed to keep, but this time I am determined.

I am hoping that by getting things down here, you lovely lot can help to keep me on track and maybe if others are as bad at being organised and procrastinating as I am we can help each other.

So come on .....if you mumsnet when you should be folding the washing, are depressed at the mountain of paperwork you need to get filed, want a lovely organised home and to feel on top of things or just feel generally disorganised and want to do something about it etc etc..... sign in here and let's get 2013 off to a positive, organised and energetic start........

Not only am I a disorganised procrastinator, I am also perpetually late to everything...please can I join the thread or have I missed the boat, again

Oooh good. more replies - I thought the thread was going to die and I'd be talking to myself (and Jilted) for the next few weeks Grin

Namechangecity - yes, it does seem somewhat ironic. I suspect we are all procrastinating about getting round to writing a post - you know how it goes:

^"Oh, I really must update the procrastination thread......ooooh that's an interesting thread title in AIBU, I'll just read that first......"

Well, yesterday wasn't too bad - folded and sorted a huge pile of clean washing and got a load of book work done. This morning I have had a tidy around the kids play room and been for a job interview (which I almost definitely won't get, but it was still terrifying - I haven't had an interview for 4 years (and then it was in the bag as I was the only candidate and unofficially doing the job anyway). They should let me know this afternoon.

I'm just having 20 minutes down time and quick coffee before I go and pick the DD's up from my friends house and I have agreed to look after her little girl this afternoon so she can get some jobs done.

The tonight, there will be more book work (BORING!!!!!!!!)

twinkle and piprabbit - of course it's not too late to join - all new comers welcome.

Can I join? Not only is my house too small and filled with clutter I should be revising for an exam.

Brew first though.

I've still got my decs up twinkle - I will take them down today though or I'll be tempting bad luck or something won't I?!

I need to take my decs down and remove the large stuffed reindeer from the sofa which DD bought because she could pick it's nose and hoover and wash the floors and clean the bathroom and strip the beds and wash the windows and dust and clean out the fire and sort the paperwork and then revise for my exam.

Hmm not sure what the bad luck date is, my dh says tommorow and my aunt said wednesday (this week)

We only have a tree and some merry christmas lights above the door, it'll just take a second... I'm just lazy :)

Dh said we can put some fairy lights from the tree up on the door :) makes me feel better about taking tree down, must admit I love it even though its a bit of a state

dilly hope you get the job, interviews are scary aren't they. My decks are still up unsurprisingly, will do it tomorrow though, I promise Wink

Right, better crack on or maybe have a cuppa first

I didn't get the job Sad but that's OK, because I knew I wouldn't - there was a heir apparent and as predicted he has got the job - and he is a good bloke who will be ok to work for. I was really just using the interview for experience and knew that I wasn't experienced enough to actually do the job. Plus it would have been a lot more hours and whole lot more stress.

I will however, ensure that I tap into my new bosses knowledge and experience so that next time this sort of opportunity arises, I am ready for it Smile

Twelfth night is the sixth of January - so Sunday. Any decorations still up after midnight on Sunday will need to be left up all year to avoid bad luck (if you believe in that sort of thing).

I remember one year my MIL accidentally left a santa hat hanging on the shelf in her hallway and didn't realise until we pointed it out to her on the 8th of January. We told her that it would be bad luck if she took it down now as she had missed twelfth night and she had to leave it up until the following christmas. Which she did. It was certainly a talking point that year for any visitors - it was quite prominent - god knows how she missed it! Grin

Simpkins signing in. Knew I should have posted on this thread days ago but one thing and another kept distracting me ;)
(my excuse is that I'm tired after being at work and so a lot bit prone to sofa surfing.) Have set a small list of decluttering exercises for this weekend, little corners and drawers that I can tackle easily and see some progress from. I hope. Fingers crossed. Will report back when I resurface from muddle Earth.

How much do you need to do namechangecity?

I've got so much to get rid of.. Can't even face to look at it

So for the rest of today, I went to shops and library and walked friends gsd with dh.

I made cupcakes(didn't decorate) and pizza dough for tommorow

I cleaned the plates and trays I used for lunch.

Dh has been cooking for us this evening so there's prob a few pots to be cleaned. Bugger em.. They can stay in sink

Watching comedy mash up on channel 4 and having a cheese and egg muffin (homemade version of mc donalds but without the cheese or bacon, I had a sausage cheese and egg one earlier lol)

I was so exhausted today that I slept in, late breakfast, late lunch...late dinner. At 4:00 pm I fell asleep watching TV with ds, but when I woke up at 5:00 pm I made some major coffee and got so much done! I've washed/dried/put away at least 4 loads laundry; made dinner; ran dishwasher/dried/put away; did extra dishes, cleaned kitchen, ironed work pants, did some 'work' for work and lots more. I told dh I want that 'thing' meaning the X-mas tree gone this weekend and now I feel I have a total handle on things. Yippee!

Well done Librarymum sounds like an amazingly productive day.

I've made a decent amount of progress this week, bearing in mind I'm 9 month preggers and had the three rug rats at home all week. I've sorted the airing cuboard (3 bags to go to school recycling), sorted out clothes and bagged up ready to gumtree, cleared and hoovered under beds, sorted kids books out, hoovered, dusted (including all the cobwebs) all bedrooms, changed beds, cleaned and sorted all the crap like old toys and toiletries out of bathroom, cleaned upstairs loo, laundry washed dried and put away apart from that that needs ironing, cleaned oven and hob, took a load of stuff to the tip and started sorting the kids toys.

Upstairs is looking pretty good... Downstairs is pretty shocking mind, especially as the back room is full of black bin liners to go to the tip and I've restrained myself from putting things in the loft (will blackmail my dad into helping me do it on Monday), but it feels good to have made a start.

C-section booked for Wednesday, so I've 3 days to make a bit more progress before operations are suspended till Feb, mind you I'm planning on shredding copious amounts of paper whilst convalescing on the sofa.

I think I NEED to join you! There are boxes and stuff everywhere. I hate, hate, hate it. Without going into detail last year was horrific. Now I need order and calm. I already have a plan with DD to tick one job off my never ending to do list tomorrow.

Sorry you didn't get the job Dilly, but your approach to it sounds very positive.

I didn't do much today, however I did sort out DS's room and find a place for all the Christmas toys, so that was one job ticked off at least. I'm hoping to be a bit more pro-active tomorrow.

Not much achieved today in the Dawdle house. DH decided that he was going to work this morning so had a lazy morning with the Dd's before heading to Ikea. I've done nothing since getting back at 4:30. Blush

Tomorrow will busy though as I need to get the last of washing done ready for going back to work and school on Monday Sad, yet more book work for dh and some work prep. Fun all round!

Doigetasticker- that sounds suspiciously like nesting to me! Having that much energy with three children let alone being 9months upduffed is a major achievement- you sure you're going to make it to Wednesday?!

This weekend was disappointIng progress wise- managed to take decs down much to the children's dismay! Took masses to the tip/recycling centre post-Xmas, gave dc's old stroller and rain cover to my mum for my niece when she visits, dropped off some Xmas presents to friends that we didn't manage to see over the hols because of multiple bugs and illnesses, and cooked massive Sunday roast today for four guests. Yum! But no corner tidying or drawer de-cluttering done, grrr. Back to school tomorrow, work started back last Weds so maybe not much progress this week either. Will see how I go.

Twinkles- how do you do hm pizza?

Still sounds like you did a lot Simpkins!

I'm feeling quite pleased about my progress today - managed to sort out a cupboard and clear some of the clutter from the spare room.

Urgh - Monday morning! One of my goals is to be much more organised in the mornings and today we all managed to get up and eat breakfast together (I put cereal, bowls etc out last night). I've also hung some washing, put more on and washed the breakfast dishes. However, DH and I have been going to bed really late over the holidays and now I feel like a zombie. Thankfully it's not a work day for me so I can have a cuppa and sit in my pj's until I feel a bit more human. Must try and have an early night tonight!

What's on everyone's to do list today?

Ok finally ready to do something after working all weekend!
I have to take down decorations and tree, do a few loads of washing, put clean and dry clothes away, clean bathrooms, Hoover sitting room, try and do some decluttering in the kitchen and bedroom.
Easy Hmm
