Disorganised Procrastinators sign in here........

DillyDallyDawdle · 29/12/2012 12:56

I procrastinate.......about everything (see, I'm doing it now - DH is out with the DD's and I could be in the shower, putting the washing mountain away or filing the paperwork, but I'm not, I'm on here starting this thread).

My house is full of junk, nothing has a place, I have a to do list a mile long and nothing ever gets done until the last minute because I am so disorganised, often meaning that I lose opportunities, money etc.

A lot has happened this year - I went back to work after maternity, my job has changed due to my boss retiring and now has more responsibility, my eldest has started school and in a moment of madness I have managed to volunteer to get the school PTFA set up properly and charity registered and myself elected as secretary.

Things HAVE to change and soon otherwise the precariously balanced house of cards that is my life will collapse with disastrous consequences for mine and my families lives.

So, I know that new years resolutions usually don't last much past 5th January, and getting myself organised is a resolution I have made many a year past and failed to keep, but this time I am determined.

I am hoping that by getting things down here, you lovely lot can help to keep me on track and maybe if others are as bad at being organised and procrastinating as I am we can help each other.

So come on .....if you mumsnet when you should be folding the washing, are depressed at the mountain of paperwork you need to get filed, want a lovely organised home and to feel on top of things or just feel generally disorganised and want to do something about it etc etc..... sign in here and let's get 2013 off to a positive, organised and energetic start........

Can I join? So far today I have managed to Hoover and put a wash on. I've been trying to get myself to the swimming pool for the last hour with no luck! I simply have found other pointless pottering to do!

It's pretty obvious, you have various lists, and each list can have a list of jobs, with a sublist too! (Mine are set up atm as - daily/weekly jobs, big jobs, jobs while Dh is working, stuff for holiday, shopping lists, medication, health) I like that you can rebook tasks for any period of time, have some set daily, some weekly and some every 8 days to fit in with DHs shift pattern

I have washed, dried and put back on cushion covers, after I sat on a choc orange segment. What a waste of good chocolate! hoovered downstairs, folded pram for DH to take upstairs (use light buggy or double normally), taken up six tonne of clean washing that needs sorting and putting away

Left to do today...

  • Finish taking last few prezzies up
  • Take down tree and last few ornaments
  • Sort and put away washing mountain

If I have chance
  • Change my bed

Did have a look at the FlyLady yesterday and have cleaned my kitchen sink which is her first baby step. Been out for the afternoon with DD and have left DS and DH in the house. It now looks like a bomb has gone off and there was no point in cleaning the sink, its grubby again and I've just done a mountain of dishes.

Her babystep 2 for tomorrow is to get up, get ready and put your shoes on. Won't be doing that one! We're both at work tomorrow and have a very finely tuned routine.

Haven't procrastinated too much today but then haven't been in much either.

Signing in.

Got back from holiday last night, done lots of washing. I Put up the ironing board and turned the iron on ... then poured a glass of wine, opened a bag of maltesers and came on here. Just can't motivate myself.

I've got big plans to de-clutter, especially my wardrobe, just always find something else to do. Need help! (DP is extremely tidy, OCDish, he thinks I'm a slut, he's right).

Tree down and decs down, need DH to bring boxes upstairs
All prezzies in correct bedrooms
Clothes sorted into per person piles, all underwear and PJs put away
One more bag of clothes for the charity shop
Have bedding out ready to change bed in the morning
Just about to put on a dark load of washing

DMum has offered to take DS1 shopping tomorrow morning so we can have another few hours of blitzing

Just putting more things in my list app while I feed DS2 to sleep. I am in love with it Grin

Glad to see so many signing in - it'good to now we are not alone Wink

Haven't done anything today as didn't surface until 10:00 due to non-sleeping baby. I was up with her for 45 mins at 2ish and then did the early shift feeding the baby from 4:45 on and off before DH got up with her at 7:45. We then had to go to Mil's for 1pm so no time to do much really.

I'd like to say that 15 months of sleep deprivation was the cause of my procrastination and disorganisation, but in truth I've always been like it, although sleep deprivation has definitely made things worse.

Tomorrow will be productive though. I'm determined. The baby is in nursery and DD1 is old enough to help or entertain herself. So the list is:

Washing - I reckon about four loads
Put away the Dd's clothes
Dust and Hoover upstairs
Sort out the piano (which never gets played and is a dumping ground for junk) - if anyone is in ten midlands and wants a free to good home 1930's upright frenchpolished piano, pm me as I am getting rid of it in the new year.
Sort and file paperwork
Sort out ebay pile that has been littering up the top of the stairs for months.
Ironing

Some of this might go over to Tuesday when the docs will be coming down as well. I can't believe how many people have already taken theirs down - I feel like a scrounge taking them down before 12th night as it is Xmas Smile

Fab list app installed.
Got dishes and 3 loads washing done. 2 big walks with the dogs. Hoovered living room and sofas. Bedroom tidied.
Feeling pleased with self! And ticking them off the app is good motivation!

I've only taken mine down early because with a toddler and a crawler, they have been less than pristine for a few weeks already Grin
DH had a proper sulk about it too!

Scrooge not scrounge

For years we never put ours up until the weekend before Christmas and always kept them up till 12th night which usually resulted in being really fed up having to take them down after a crap post-Christmas day at work - especially bad when we used to have a real tree.

The last couple of years we've put them up earlier and taken them down on nyd which is much better. I couldn't take them down earlier though. Watching the hootnanny without the lights just wouldn't be the same.

This looks like the thread for me, can I join in?

I am fed up of the disorganised way DH and I live and am determined to try and take control this year. I have some big deck uttering projects that need to be done and we need to get a system for housework that doesn't involve running around doing chores at the weekend instead of having quality family time with DS (DH and I both work full-time).

I've got the home routines app, but it doesn't quite work for me (although it is very good) so I'll have a go at the Priorities app - it looks like it has the extra flexibility I need.

DH bought me an organised mum life book for Christmas and I have already sat and planned out my to do list for January and set a reminder on my phone to do this every month.

How's everyone getting on today? I'm at work and so far have managed to give DC breakfast, get them dressed and myself, load the dishwasher, not kill anybody and get to work. Think that's good enough for now Grin.

I'm officially still on holiday, so my newly organised self won't emerge until the New Year but I have started writing my 'project' lists on the Priorities app (first project of the year being to revamp our home filing system), make a desert to take to a friend's for dinner tonight and wash bedding, mattress/pillowcase covers.

Doing OK so far.

My four loads of washing is more like 9 or 10 now that it is sorted Xmas Shock but first couple are done, so I'll just keep ploughing on. Piano is sorted and the beds are stripped and windows open upstairs to air the place out a bit.

I'm about to go and sort the DD's clothes and get them put away.

ORGANISATION TIP

For those of you with loads of paperwork and home filing systems I like the tips here:

I love this site. I discovered her blog before she went professional and there is some great organisational inspiration on there.

If you sign up for the newsletter, you also get Instructions on creating a home reference binder

and the email tips that come on the newsletter are quite good rather than spammy.
