Fledgling Flyers Olympic August thread.

Ok so not the wittiest of titles but this month we have the Olympics, holidays, return of football season and heading into the new school year. It's going to be a busy one...

Firstly thanks to Blue and Ellie who kept us on track last month! Thanks

Right, most of you should know how this works. It's a three pronged attack.
Phase one: The babysteps master these and you will be working like clockwork.
Phase two: Adding in Decluttering this will help you keep on top of the amount of stuff contributing to CHAOS.
Phase three: Missions Targeted activities to keep the chaos at bay and starting the deep cleaning.

The golden duster of Flying is stage 4: deep cleaning. This is for most, unrealistic and should only be considered once you have completely decluttered. PA might achieve this simply by virtue of some extreme life decluttering. Although I probably won't recommend her method.

Now for those of you who are completely lost, lets rewind a bit.
CHAOS: Can't have anyone over syndrome. Yep you know that state where you are embarrassed to have play dates fucking hate that phrase or people pop in unexpectedly.
The fly lady approach works by breaking the house down into tiny activities which you do repeatedly yep sounds bad written like that but bare with me and then build up into a routine that becomes habit and you stop thinking about it no really, you do.

Clearer? Yeah ok. I have probably lost you but there is loads of support and help on this thread. If you are confused then ask. However, as this thread starts on the 1st on August I refuse to post the first babystep until later today.

This thread comes with a warning: For those of you who have not yet encountered my leadership of the thread. Be afraid, very afraid aware that I have a rather unorthodox approach and that things can get a tad unpredictable. Starting with a namechange. So who?s on board this month?

Oh and spot markers can help themselves to a magic eraser and ensure there are no marks on the thread for the start of the month. Let?s start as we mean to go on

Evening all! Have had a lovely day today. Spent the morning cleaning, afternoon pottering and then evening having our nearest and dearest friends round for a bbq.Smile

Am now going to collapse on the sofa!

BlueEyeshadow · 18/08/2012 22:10

Phew, what a scorcher!

Just got back from a week in Somerset where it's been decidedly murky and this side of the country is scorchio!

Have disregarded all Flylady's wise words about unpacking etc because it's just too hot. Haven't braved the scales yet, either. Will get back to body-decluttering tomorrow... but we're having a BBQ! Hey ho.

Just wanted to echo all the get wells and instructions to rest to Toffee - sorry you've been having such a rough time.

Waves to everyone else. Night!

BitchyDragons · 19/08/2012 00:18

Ok sunday is renew your spirit day. Ie do something just for you

babystep 19 -it's an easy one.

There are no missions.

If you have sunshine hope you can enjoy it. Hopefully it is not too hot to be comfortable for you all tomo.

Hello all. Sorry went awol for a while. This new life has been a bit of a bummer struggle this week and I have been finding it all a bit tough. Sad Yesterday was a lot better and today has started well, so I am looking up!!

Language study started this week. It is very intense, but I am very pleasantly surprised at how much I have picked up and remembered in just 1 week. DH has been struggling (probably a lot of the reason for the major stress this week) but he has more confidence than me at trying it out on the locals. So I think it, he will have a go at saying it. We have got into a few tricky situations, but it is improving!! A friend I met told me that when she first started learning she learnt just a few words to answer their questions. One question was always "are you married?" so she learnt what she thought was the answer. Whenever she answered she got a lovely smile, especially from any man and thought she was doing ok. Until she learnt that the word she had been using for "unmarried" was actually "virgin". No wonder them men were interested!!!

Toffee I cannot believe that you are still poorly!! You have had enough people nagging on here Wink so a big (((hug))) and hope you are 100% soon. Are you still dog-sitting? Sorry, I have not caught up with the thread properly!! Blush

Only low thirties degrees here today. Very pleasant and I am definitely getting acclimatised!

Shopping trip later today, after church, to get DH's birthday present. Really not sure where I can get what I want for him, but I will give it a go!

HAve a good day all. Smile

ShiftyFades · 19/08/2012 08:13

Grin @ virgin!!
That's brilliant Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 19/08/2012 09:28

PA - you always make me laugh. That poor woman! Hope you're not going to make the same mistake Wink. Sorry you have been struggling the past week. It's bound to be really tough at times, which is why you are so amazingly brave to do what you're doing and we are all full of admiration for you. It must be such a culture shock and you have so much to get used to. I'm glad to hear the language learning is going well so far. How are your DC finding life there?

I can't believe I'm still poorly either, PA. I think perhaps I kept going too much when I first got ill and didn't give myself time to get over it. I am properly scared by the pneumonia though and am taking things easy now. Really don't want it getting any worse.

Good morning to all the other lovely fledglings Smile.

Have persuaded DS1 to read to me every day. He's reading me 'To Kill a Mockingbird', one of my favourite books and one which I thought he might just be old enough to appreciate.

DH has taken DS2 out to the beach this morning. He was masterly at getting DS2 to put his suncream on without getting upset (suggested DS2 put it on him first and then they swapped).

No Flying planned this morning. Just bedrest.

ShiftyFades · 19/08/2012 10:28

Glad to hear you're resting toffee. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Ta da:
Just finished all the ironing.
Done one load
Another in machine.
Watered plants, dead headed the pots.

To do:
Change DS sheets and wash them along with anything else strewn across numerous floors
Blow up pool
Fill pool
Gaze enviously at DS in nice cool pool while I do some weeding... or maybe not, might just get in the pool
Grin

BitchyDragons · 19/08/2012 13:16

I have been a rubbish leader. I and done sod all for over a week and today I was going to get up and do stuff. But I have literally been up ten minutes. Blush And tbh don't really want to be awake. Been Trying to stay well well way from coffee and coke had a week away from the stuff but am so lathargic it is stupid and tomo I have a day of stupid mileage for getting ds. So I think I am going to have to cave and just use the caffine crutch to allow me to function. Thankfully though the intake level should be at a reasonable amount. Ie 1 cup coffee today, and a couple tomo.

Need a list:
cookies
brownies
important phone call
laundry
Ironing
Toy corner of doom
ds' room
my room

As long as I down to ds' room it will all be ok. I hope

ChitchatAtHome · 19/08/2012 14:00

PA - you might get a few raised eyebrows if you make a similar mistake with your DH on your arm!!

Toffee - Glad you're resting! I did look at those storage units, but I need something higher that I can store lots of other things for the DSs. At the moment I have two boxes in the unit filled with their linen, 4 with books and the rest with toys. I have larger toys and a box with puzzles on top of the unit, so I need something that is at least the same size, if not larger/taller.

Bitchy - Nonsense - we're all supposed to be taking it easy on the weekend anyway.

Big wave hello to everyone else!

I am about 3/4 of the way through the DSs' bedroom - have 2 1/2 baskets (those folding baskets) of things to get rid of (mainly toys), and a large bin bag of things to throw away. Have a few things left in some boxes on the floor to go through, and then I need to work my way through their clothes and shoes.

Today is a day off, church this morning and DSs and I are about to go off and watch DH play cricket this afternoon.

PositiveAttitude · 19/08/2012 14:16

I am not so sure about DH on my arm, but I am certainly not saintly enough to be a virgin mother 5 times over!! Grin I have learnt how to say that I am married, so no confusion there I hope!

BlueEyeshadow · 19/08/2012 14:24

Bah! Planned a bbq for this evening, so it's raining... Hmm

Bodyclutter - must have done loads more walking than I realised last week: despite all the puddings, scones and fish & chips, have lost 2.8lbs in the last fortnight!! Shock

About to go and fill a charity bag for the Sally Army. No other flying today - too darn hot.

Waves to all and leaves Brew on the bar - iced, of course!

ShiftyFades · 19/08/2012 14:55

Wow 2.8lbs!! That's fantastic Grin
Well done. Any tips?

BitchyDragons · 19/08/2012 16:13

Don't take steroids even steroid inhalers can slow down/hault weight loss.

My body is consistant. Need to sort it out though and lose 2 stone. i want a Stone shifted before end of September. perhaps a little unrealistic? But I do have 6 weeks so possible perhaps.

Right so far 2 cups of coffee drunk, started tufing out the messy toy corner of doom in utility room and had a long conversation with sis.

Important Questions
how old would you want your kid to be before they have unlimited access to paints? And that you could trust them with them?

OP posts:
ShiftyFades · 19/08/2012 18:12

Probably 8+, not sure as DS is only 3.9 and I cry when I get paint pads out Wink

BlueEyeshadow · 19/08/2012 18:56

Bitchy - no idea re paints. Can't imagine such a day yet, but they're only 5 and nearly 3!

Shifty - thanks! For me, it's been portion control and exercise. Like a lot of people on here I'm using My Fitness Pal, and it's really helping me to be aware of what I eat. Last week my mum kept serving up wonderful cheeseboards, so I hardly ate any bread to make room for cheese... Wink Not sure it's a good plan in the long term, but hey!

Rain stopped. BBQ was lovely. Way over calorie limit for the day but, once again, hey!

ChitchatAtHome · 19/08/2012 21:01

Bitchy - erm, 25???!!! Grin Seriously though, probably not till around 10 - not completely free access, anyway. But then my 2 are only 3 and 5, and a lot of my nieces and nephews were rather unreliable types, so not the best person to ask.

I'm trying to lose weight, have tried WW in the past, which was hopeless for me. Calorie control just leaves me hungry. Bizarrely I had the most success with a low carb diet, in a month I lost 6 kg. But..... my weakness is chocolate and puddings, and the reason why the low carb diet works so well for me is that it made me go cold turkey, whereas other diets let me have little amounts which didn't kill the cravings entirely.

I have been REALLY bad with eating lately, waaaaayyyy too much chocolate, etc.

Hit the scales on Friday and was over 84 kg, I've only been over 80 kg for the last 4 - 6 months, for about 3 years I was stuck on about 78 kgs (not happy with it though) and it totally depressed me so back onto the low carb diet. I dropped about 2 1/2 kgs in 2 days - although that's not real weight loss, but the fact that my body has so much less actual rubbish in it over that period of time, and a bit of a detox with the large amounts of water that I'm drinking. Usually by day 3 I start sugar craving bread again, but so far so good. It also means that for the first period of time I don't have to actually weigh/watch what I eat. I eat what is on the allowed list, and don't eat what is not. I know that later on I will have to pay more attention to carb and calorie values, but hopefully by then I will have effectively done a sugar detox and so won't have the same cravings that derail me whenever I try to eat more healthily.

Problem is DH is doing a strict calorie controlled diet, while I'm doing a low carb, and in the early stages the 2 really don't mix. Later on obviously they will be more complementary, but not yet. Not sure how I will tackle that one TBH.

MaggieMcVitie · 19/08/2012 22:44

Chitchat Bitchy and Blue I logged back on to MFP today and am determined to stick to it this time along with keeping up with babysteps at least.

I weighed in this morning at 167lbs (11st 13)Shock - I should be around 9st 7 but 9st 4 would be perfect. Did a run yesterday with DS1 (annual event in next town) and found it really hard going - it was only 3k but I really hurt my hip and hobbled over the line like a bright red, wonky beetroot. When I got home DH and I discovered that the mahoosive bag of dog food under the stairs weighs 2st 5lbs, imagine lugging that with you on a 3k cross country run! No wonder my bloody hip gave in!!

BitchyDragons · 20/08/2012 02:20

:( that does not make me feel much better about the 2stone. In fact it explains why I am carrying so many injuries. I have had three cups of coffee. It is like some sort of drug. Heart rate significantly goes up, brain function and anxiety goes up, activity goes up. so after stupid mileage tomo I need to go caffine free again and stay caffine free no matter what. Especially as i reckon I have completely undone a weeks worth of caffine free today.

The house is too fucking hot. Finally got the cookies in the oven. Done the brownies and bread rolls which weren't on the to do list

haven't done ds' room though. Body is asking to go to bed. i expect brain shall be busy doing something tonight though. And the bastard fb have upgraded me to timeline so I need to check through everything and get that sorted. But not tonight. And probably not until wednesday.

In the meantime my to do list looks like this:
cookies
brownies
important phone call But not the right one
laundry 2 loads done
Ironing
Toy corner of doom
ds' room
make bread
be bewildered by fb's improvements
get sucked into action conversations
make list for tomo
1hr decluttering in my room.
stick up ds' new routines
look for gilertine for cutting down other routines
15mins decluttering in the bathroom

And considering it is now somehow nearly 2am I think bed is needed and thus the links for tomo.

Monday is home bluergy day!
The zone is The master Bedroom and the missions are here
The babystep is here

On another thread there was a website recommended for printable sheets and routines etc which I thought those of you who were struggling with sorting out control journals etc might like to look at. No idea what it is like as haven't looked to be honest. organizedhome.com/

Fuckingarsingshittingbollockyasthma

Well today is not going to go to plan. First things first a phone call to the docs, then to the lovely person who has ds for the day. Perhaps then the plans for the day will be known.

Oh dear bitchy hope you manage to get an appointment sorted out.

I have had a lovely weekend at a spa with my best friend Smile . Back to a reaLly hectic day at work today though, which. I'm not looking forward to.

To do
Online shop
Meal plan
15 mins declutter in bedroom

That's enough for now - will see if I survive the day!

dizzyday07 · 20/08/2012 09:58

Bitchy - My DD is almost 8 and I wouldn't trust her alone with paints!

Not much done over the weekend except shining sink and a couple of loads of washing. We sold both our chests of drawers on Ebay (yeah!) as well as the 2 toy storage units. One of each were collected yesterday with the other 2 going in the next day or so.

This has resulted in all DH's and my clothes now in plies on the bedroom floor and DD's toys stacked in heaps in the dining room! So it looks to all intents and purposed that my tidying is taking a backward step. Confused

I now need to call the removals company to see if our lack of furniture effects the quote they gave us Grin

I now need to empty our suitcases of old clothes (and take to the cash 4 clothes man) so I can pack them with our wearable clothes. I have made a bit of headway sorting the garage so have more stuff for the charity shop and a huge pile of videos nobody wants - which includes all the Star Trek movies.
