Fledgling Flyers Olympic August thread.

BitchyDragons · 31/07/2012 04:01

Ok so not the wittiest of titles but this month we have the Olympics, holidays, return of football season and heading into the new school year. It's going to be a busy one...

Firstly thanks to Blue and Ellie who kept us on track last month! Thanks

Right, most of you should know how this works. It's a three pronged attack.
Phase one: The babysteps master these and you will be working like clockwork.
Phase two: Adding in Decluttering this will help you keep on top of the amount of stuff contributing to CHAOS.
Phase three: Missions Targeted activities to keep the chaos at bay and starting the deep cleaning.

The golden duster of Flying is stage 4: deep cleaning. This is for most, unrealistic and should only be considered once you have completely decluttered. PA might achieve this simply by virtue of some extreme life decluttering. Although I probably won't recommend her method.

Now for those of you who are completely lost, lets rewind a bit.
CHAOS: Can't have anyone over syndrome. Yep you know that state where you are embarrassed to have play dates fucking hate that phrase or people pop in unexpectedly.
The fly lady approach works by breaking the house down into tiny activities which you do repeatedly yep sounds bad written like that but bare with me and then build up into a routine that becomes habit and you stop thinking about it no really, you do.

Clearer? Yeah ok. I have probably lost you but there is loads of support and help on this thread. If you are confused then ask. However, as this thread starts on the 1st on August I refuse to post the first babystep until later today.

This thread comes with a warning: For those of you who have not yet encountered my leadership of the thread. Be afraid, very afraid aware that I have a rather unorthodox approach and that things can get a tad unpredictable. Starting with a namechange. So who?s on board this month?

Oh and spot markers can help themselves to a magic eraser and ensure there are no marks on the thread for the start of the month. Let?s start as we mean to go on

Hope you feel better soon Toffee. Glad you got meds to help speed up the recovery.

OP posts:
BitchyDragons · 13/08/2012 15:34

I now have steroids for my asthma. this next week will probably be punctuated by long scarey lists as I try to channel the medicine induced energy. At least I will feel better, and I might even finish the decluttering.

swanthingafteranother · 13/08/2012 16:54

Chitchat it is quite a relief to someone else with a very long list [sigh] and full of admiration for all the decorating you are doing, including making study - yes views are good, there are always blinds if you get too distracted Wink
Whoknows plumber busy Sad thank goodness tomorrow, unbelievably annoying it is still leaking.
Toffee hope ABs help and dog break

done
children did lots of exercise this morning, tennis camp for 2 hours with dd's friend and then a swim; dd is still at her friend's.
I feel very bleugh all of the sudden, maybe London does not agree with me. Spacious house now seems like a hellish dump full of sandy suitcases, unsolved paperwork and screaming sons!
Have parked ds2 in front of soothing telly, (he just had a fight with dd at the friend's house) Ds1 not much better Hmm and had to be sent home by himself as he was causing trouble.

better go, phone

ShiftyFades · 13/08/2012 20:10

Evening Grin
Name change (again), previously Flying and MummyNic before that.

I've been sticking to the sink
Bleughhh went well.
Last night I did ALL the ironing Grin
Today I dead headed my baskets with earnest (now I know I have admirers Wink)
Cleaned bathroom
Caught up on 2 weeks of Corrie Blush

Back to work tomorrow;
Have got DS's bag for nursery packed.
Going to pack my gym stuff in a bit
Relax and have a bath.

Waves to all Smile

ToffeeWhirl · 13/08/2012 20:57

Bitchy - a friend of mine went completely hyper on steroids. She had to apologise to her workmates because she couldn't stop talking. Hope you can use the energy to your advantage. And I hope the steroids help sort out your asthma.

swan - "...maybe London does not agree with me" - sounds more as if you are overwhelmed with family life. Just as well you are going back to Ireland on Wednesday. The holidays suddenly seem very long here. My DS2 even asked when he could go back to school yesterday Shock. His current refrain is, "But what can I dooooooo?"

Shifty - namechange noted Wink. Well done on all your Flying.

MC - glad you had such a good weekend away. Yes, the house is much quieter without the Jack Russell here .

Carpe - did you manage to become superwoman for half an hour?

ChitChat - you are right about cats being easier than dogs. However, I'm seriously allergic to cats, so we can't have them Sad. By the way, I think your desk should face the view. Your are meant to take regular short breaks when working anyway and at least that way you will have something nice to gaze upon.

engels - looks like you are well ahead with the planning for DS's first taster morning . Congratulations on your forthcoming anniversary.

Am actually feeling a tiny, tiny bit better, thanks to loads of sleep and antibiotics. DH came home early so that I could go to bed and I just slept for hours and hours. Tomorrow, MIL is coming over so that I can continue to rest. Hopefully, rest and abs will knock it on the head.

No Flying done, although I did manage to put out extra bags of rubbish this morning, so that can count as decluttering, I suppose.

The house is much calmer with the Jack Russell gone. We already have the boys to liven things up (lots of arguing going on these days), so we don't need any more tricky characters in the family. The Border Terrier sat by me when I fell asleep this afternoon. Now and again, she licked my hand. She is very sweet and I think I will miss her when she goes home.

Off to bed now. Night all.

pushmepullyou · 13/08/2012 21:04

Ooh shifty didn't realise you were mummynic. Hello all over again Smile

On our way back from a weekend away which has been nice if hectic. No flying but have managed the online shop via the ocado app so quietly pleased.

ShiftyFades · 13/08/2012 21:48

Hello Grin
Sorry to read of all the illness Sad sending healing hugs to all.
DH hasn't been well for a week. It's gone from me to him and back again, just a mighty site throat and tight chest.

Off to bed now (sink is shiny), won't be on until very late as I'm off to Zumba straight after work.

pushmepullyou · 13/08/2012 22:13

toffee hope the antibiotics kick in soon. You never know, maybe it isn't a dog allergy after all ...

Hope your plumber turns up on time and is magically able to fix everything instantly whoknows

Hello bitchy, swan, chitchat, lauren, engels et al. Still on my phone so can't scroLl further so a big wave to everyone I've missed

NickNacks · 13/08/2012 22:33

Can I add to the sickies with my kidney infection? I'm in sooo much pain. :(

I had to work today (just one baby) and the pain got gradually worse that I called the doctors and although no appts left they told me to cone down at end of surgery. Now on some anti-b's but only had one dose so no change as yet. :( feeling sorry for self.

Have read and caught up though.

[waves] to everyone

Thanks to all other sick people.

And a Brew for anyone who needs it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/08/2012 22:42

Thanks PMPY - I hope so too. Am thoroughly grumpy still, wish guest would go home (not his fault, he's nice to have around and no trouble at all, but we had guests last week too and what with no proper water and being woken before dawn two days in a row by water dripping on my back I feel all out of sorts and just want things back to normal). Plus I'm going to have to stay off work for at least half a day tomorrow and catch up later in the week.

Sorry to hear about all the illnesses, hope tomorrow brings some relief. CBA even to go to the naughty corner tonight, so I'm off to bed now

BitchyDragons · 13/08/2012 23:12

whoknows hope you have a leak free night.

Fifty how did i miss the mummyn name change to flyin? Confused

toffee hope you feel better soon

nicknacks kidney pain is the worst!

swan hoping a calmer day for you tomo.

right linkies and then i must try to sleep as car is going in to play the will it pass the mot game. Ironically it is all the decluttering that i have been doing that has aggrivated my lungs.

Tuesday is planning day What's on the calendar, what's for tea etc.
babystep 14

OP posts:
Honu · 14/08/2012 05:20

Still here really, and following babysteps. Yes Bitchy I noticed a couple of days when it was the wrong babystep but hey, I can cope with that - it was enough to remind me to look.

I have revised my daily routines as part of the control journal step because I was getting frustrated at not being able to complete my 'morning' routine because DH gets going so late. So now I have a 'before 8' routine with nothing noisy in it and a 'before 10' routine which means I don't leave the poor man with half the caring chores not done. Seems to be working so far. I have also reduced the 'before bed' to teeth, moisturise, DH to bed as I am just so not a night owl.

Toffee when I had to start to work full-time an elderly lady down the road, who had been dogless for a year because she felt she was too old at 85 to have another dog, offered to have Honudog during the day. This was an absolute win-win-win situation. I knew my dog was well cared for all day, she had a dog for company but no responsibility, and Honudog just loved it. We all enjoyed the relationship for the last 7 years of Honudog's life. Could some arrangement like this work for you?

BitchyDragons · 14/08/2012 05:40

Honu was that the babystep that I spotted was wrong or another one? Blush

Good morning btw. An early start for you today.

OP posts:
Honu · 14/08/2012 06:13

Bitchy I might have known that if anyone were around it would be you. I've been awake since 3! It was that one and the day before it. But no sweat - it's just good to have the reminder, so thanks.

BitchyDragons · 14/08/2012 06:32

I did wonder if i had got it wrong but decided there was no point in duble checking as fuck all i could do about it.

Ouch at being awake from 3am. Hope you can either grab a bit of rest later or an early night.

Can't sleep. Too many meds with a stimulant side effect. Although I expect i will be ready to sleep about 10 mins before my alarm goes off as is sods law Hmm

OP posts:
CarpeJugulum · 14/08/2012 06:57

Not a good day yesterday. Felt quite low and down. Still feeling like it today Sad Think it's a downside of having guests for the past few weeks.

Today I have no real plans - washing machine repair man is coming this morning, so hopefully my machine will be back to normal later on (it's washing, but lacking in the puddle of water that sits at the bottom in the wash cycle, so while things are getting clean, it's not brilliantly clean.

Hence any plans are at the will of the gods!

Right, off to dress and S&S.

Engelsemama · 14/08/2012 07:37

Morning all,

Sorry to hear so many people are not feeling well.

To do
Take DS for his first nursery session (he's only over the road - very curious to see how he gets on with other babies for such a long period of time)
And while he's gone...started my planning for first week of school. have done NOTHING over the holidays, not even reading the new texts I have to teach so lots to be cracking on with.
Pray that DHs anniversary card arrives on time (did a personalised one)

That's as far as I'm getting today. perhaps this afternoon will do some food shopping and do another lot of washing.

Sorry for lack of personals. If I get a good chunk of planning done then I will reward myself with some MN time later!

BBL Smile

pushmepullyou · 14/08/2012 07:46

Morning all Smile.

Back home and back to work this morning. Having a childcare nightmare at the moment which I won't bore you with now (will be back to bore you with it later instead!)

Sorry you're feeling rubbish carpe hopefully it won't last long. Hope all of you on the sick list are feeling better soon

To do
Routines
Unpacking from weekend
Meal plan
Finances
Declutter box of too many papers

BBL

ToffeeWhirl · 14/08/2012 08:29

Morning everyone.

Honu - I agree with you that that is the sort of arrangement that might work very well for us. It would give DS1 an incentive to get out during the day, but we wouldn't have overall responsibility. Honudog Grin must have given that elderly lady a lot of happiness. Good idea to revise your routines, by the way. I think maybe I should do that, as I often fail at the before-bed routine and start the next day feeling like a failure. Sorry you woke up so early this morning, by the way.

Bitchy - sorry for the early start. I hope the meds start working on your asthma soon. Good luck with the MOT today.

carpe - Sorry you are feeling down. Sounds like you need a break. Any chance of a bit of time to yourself today?

Ah, have been joined by DS2, so will have to continue this later....

laurenamium · 14/08/2012 09:01

I didn't make if back last night! Blush but I'll list dump and catch up later!

Yesterday's ta da:

Car cleaned out
DD and mindee to valley gardens for picnic
Hotspots cleared
Windows cleaned
Routines
Food shop
Bank
Post letters
Impromptu trip to see horse

Shoes in drawer
Make banana loaf
Today's mission
Cut grass

BBL

BitchyDragons · 14/08/2012 09:12

Toffee lovely it wasn't an early start. I haven't been to bed yet. the bastard side affects of the asthma meds. Going to attempt sleep now. so fingers crossed although I am slightly buzzing already from this first lot of the steroid so not overly hopeful. Appologies in advance for randomness, topic jumping and general incoherancy. Oh hang on a minute that's pretty normal for me isn't it Grin

Have good days.

OP posts:
ChitchatAtHome · 14/08/2012 09:28

Hi all
Grabs a Brew ? thanks Carpe.

Toffee, Bitchy and NickNacks- hope you?re both feeling better with some medicine in you.

Bitchy - get thee to bed!!!!!

Swan - Long lists, don?t necessarily guarantee long lists accomplished, do they?! Grin

Who Knows - completely understandable that you want your guest to leave, doesn?t matter how nice people are if things are in chaos you just need to hunker down on your own, to deal with things without having to be nice and friendly to other people.

Honu - what a lovely dog sharing arrangement! Our neighbours are all really lovely and help each other with their dogs all the time. It?s nice when you have such nice, caring neighbours.

Waves to Making, Shifty, PMPY, Engels, Blue and Lauren

Swan and Toffee* - I think you?re both right, desk should face the window. It will be in front of part of the radiator, but I don?t think it should be a problem as that radiator is generally left on low in winter.

DS2 fell asleep before dinner, and woke up in the middle of the night really hungry so was up for an hour with him in the middle of the night. Fortunately a beaker of milk settled him back down eventually. Seems bright this morning so hopefully all ok with him, but I feel a bit off with lack of sleep.

Trying to find some employment that I can do from home ? looking at some audio typing jobs online. If anyone knows of any good places, could you let me know? I have all the equipment. I have contacted a few places already so will see how it goes.

As part of my decluttering I will be getting rid of books/magazines for knitting (machine and hand, some new but a lot from the 80s), cross stitching (lots!!), and sewing (Burda), and some children?s things especially clothing (for boys ? up to size 2!) including a travel system (ICandy Apple) ?if any of you are interested in any of it, let me know ? free, will just need to cover postage, or happy to hand over in person (over a cup of tea Grin)

Well, I think I bit off a bit more than I could chew yesterday:
-3 x loads of washing washed, dried outside, and put away ? done

  • strip and remake DS2?s bed - done
-Dishwasher emptied and reloaded x 2 - done -Mission ? only Bathroom section done -Home bleugh (downstairs) ? swept a bit, but decided it was pointless with all the sanding I need to do -puttying and sanding 3 x downstairs doors - done -undercoating 3 x downstairs doors and 2x upstairs doors - not done -painting 3 x downstairs doors and 2 x upstairs doors - not done -1 x load of gentle wash ? not done -2 x baskets of ironing - 2 hours of ironing done -15 minute kitchen tidy up - done -15 minute bedroom declutter - done

Plus lots of pulling out and putting away of different toys for the DSs to keep them amused.

Todays list:
-3 x loads of wash
-1 x load of gentle wash
-Sand the door frames down stairs x 3
-Undercoat 3 x doors and door frames downstairs
-Undercoat 2 x doors upstairs
-GP appointment for DS1

ToffeeWhirl · 14/08/2012 10:23

Bitchy - Shock at the meds keeping you up all night! I hope you can catch up on sleep today Hmm.

My MIL has arrived to help out today, bringing snacks and a cake to decorate for the DC Grin. This means I can come back to bed and rest for the day. I'm so grateful to her.

nicknacks - poor thing. Kidney infection sounds horrible. Hope you feel better soon.

PMPY - you are right, it's not all dog allergy after all. However, the dr did say that my asthma was probably worsened by the dogs, which has made the chest infection harder to bear Sad.

Engels - hope first nursery session goes well.

ChitChat - blimey, you look like you have a busy day ahead of you!

lauren - you too. Out of nosiness, what did the blacksmith do wrong?

Blue - hope weather improves so you and the boys can get out.

Shifty - thanks for the healing hugs. Hope your own chest infection is better soon (and your DH's).

WhoKnows - I hope the plumber sorts out the leak today and that things start to get back to normal soon. It's completely understandable that a guest is too stressful on top of everything else you are coping with. When does he go home?

Ta da list:

D/W unloaded and reloaded
Extras washed up
Kitchen surfaces cleared and wiped down
Kitchen bin emptied
Kitchen towel and washing-up cloth changed
Fridge cleared and cleaned
B/fasts done for DC and myself
Tea made for MIL
Meds taken

To do:

Rest
MIL doing lunch
DS1 taking the dog for a walk
Remember meds
Put some washing on (very behind with this)
Ocado delivery due this evening

Bye for now. Apologies to those I've left out of personals above....

laurenamium · 14/08/2012 11:33

Right time for a catch up I think Smile

whoknows I hope the plumber can sort your leak for you ASAP!

[flower] and Biscuit for all of the poorly people! Take it easy!

I hope your ds has a good taster session today engels!

Grin at male friend msonatopp, it seems we might be in a similar kind of position as well as the same age! Only my newly acquired date is off back to work for a fortnight today Sad

Un mumsnet hugs carpe and anyone else that needs some!

chitchat well done on decluttering a whole room! And your plan looks like a well thought out one! Good luck Smile

toffee my horse had a tendon problem a few weeks ago and has been signed off by the vet but needs to be brought back into work slowly- she needs 5 weeks of walking- over the last 3 weeks she keeps losing shoes so she can't be ridden. The blacksmith was due to come and put another 2 shoes back on yesterday and came up- put a too big shoe on her front foot and no pad (which she has always had on her front feet) and didn't do the back one Angry so I rang him and moaned! He is my extended family though so I get away with it Wink he's coming back tomorrow to sort her out properly.
