Fledgling Flyers Olympic August thread.

Ok so not the wittiest of titles but this month we have the Olympics, holidays, return of football season and heading into the new school year. It's going to be a busy one...

Firstly thanks to Blue and Ellie who kept us on track last month! Thanks

Right, most of you should know how this works. It's a three pronged attack.
Phase one: The babysteps master these and you will be working like clockwork.
Phase two: Adding in Decluttering this will help you keep on top of the amount of stuff contributing to CHAOS.
Phase three: Missions Targeted activities to keep the chaos at bay and starting the deep cleaning.

The golden duster of Flying is stage 4: deep cleaning. This is for most, unrealistic and should only be considered once you have completely decluttered. PA might achieve this simply by virtue of some extreme life decluttering. Although I probably won't recommend her method.

Now for those of you who are completely lost, lets rewind a bit.
CHAOS: Can't have anyone over syndrome. Yep you know that state where you are embarrassed to have play dates fucking hate that phrase or people pop in unexpectedly.
The fly lady approach works by breaking the house down into tiny activities which you do repeatedly yep sounds bad written like that but bare with me and then build up into a routine that becomes habit and you stop thinking about it no really, you do.

Clearer? Yeah ok. I have probably lost you but there is loads of support and help on this thread. If you are confused then ask. However, as this thread starts on the 1st on August I refuse to post the first babystep until later today.

This thread comes with a warning: For those of you who have not yet encountered my leadership of the thread. Be afraid, very afraid aware that I have a rather unorthodox approach and that things can get a tad unpredictable. Starting with a namechange. So who?s on board this month?

Oh and spot markers can help themselves to a magic eraser and ensure there are no marks on the thread for the start of the month. Let?s start as we mean to go on

Toffee maybe Ds1 will value the peaceful dogfree interlude too, when dog goes home and that will be part of his learning curve too...Or perhaps absence of dog will decide you that you DO want a dog after all...
As far as spouses not liking animals, my DH has always resisted every pet we've had so far, but has ended up with three cats and they ADORE him...(and he still claims he hates them..Confused My Dad also hates cats, yet for some reason has had to put up with my Mum's serial cat ownership too..He refers to her cat as "that lazy cat" (apparently her cat should be dealing with all the mice singlehanddly)
oh dear, better go.. shrieks in distance.
Dd has gone to sleepover,
Dh has cut hedge, boys helped a bit Hmm
exercise - a bit encouraged
Dd and I and her friend went swimming

swanthingafteranother · 12/08/2012 20:03

Bitchy oh dear, that sounds hard - hope ds enjoys being with his Dad nevetheless.

swanthingafteranother · 12/08/2012 20:05

Whoknows so familiar that plannign weekends round the Football, first the Olympics, now the football. Ds2 loves the sea, in fact that is the only thing that has completely blotted out his obsession with what sport is scheduled on telly..Hmm

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/08/2012 20:09

Lauren - no luckily as we were there when it happened. I dread to think what would have happened if we had been on holiday, or even just out for a few hours, it would have ruined our bed, carpet and if it had got through that lot it would have landed on £1000+ worth of computer etc directly below. Hoping the plumber can come soon though.

I'm feeling better now, really felt rough all afternoon, but have managed an hour decluttering weeds from the borders and planted out a few new plants this evening. DH has gone out with a friend and the DCs are playing nicely in the garden. Really ought to get them to bed.

laurenamium · 12/08/2012 21:39

Wow bitchy that does sound hard Sad

whoknows that was lucky I suppose! Well as lucky as possible given what could have gone wrong!!

laurenamium · 13/08/2012 08:20

BBL!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/08/2012 08:44

Bloody thing started leaking again. Woke up at half past 6 soaking wet. Not happy.

ToffeeWhirl · 13/08/2012 09:04

Oh, WhoKnows ...Sad Sorry. I hope it gets sorted asap.

Morning, lauren. That looks like quite a list.

JR was collected at 12.30am Grin. She was sweet, but too much of a handful.

Am visiting the dr today at 11. Think I might have a chest infection. Still can't speak either.

Got to go and put the rubbish out now. Hope everyone has a good day.

Engelsemama · 13/08/2012 09:07

Okay, have fallen off the flying wagon the last few days, sorry for not catchin up.

need to write a list to get me motivated...

take out white wash from td and fold/put away
wash-on
wash clothes given by friend for DS and pack away the ones that are way too big
washing-up
GET OUTSIDE! Have spent far too long inside over the last 2 weeks watching Olympics so time for some sunshine now!

Engelsemama · 13/08/2012 09:08

Oh and...
get ready DSs things for his first taster morning at nursery
write DHs wedding anniversary card for Wed!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/08/2012 09:22

Spoken to the plumber, he's coming first thing tomorrow, he actually said if we'd rung him yesterday he would have come over, but is too busy today. So, another day of using a bucket to flush the loo as we've had to switch the water system to the bathroom off again. Think we will go out and leave a bucket on the bed.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/08/2012 10:00

Bodyclutter - lost 3lb! However that still leaves me 2lb heavier than I was a couple of months ago.

BitchyDragons · 13/08/2012 10:30

Morning. going to be having a wrong day.
today's list went

whoknows sorry you are having problems with the leak still.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/08/2012 10:35

Thank you. I am using it as an excuse to have a total lazy morning. Which I will pay for later in the week. Never mind. Hope your appt goes ok.

MsOnatopp · 13/08/2012 10:42

Lauren - Just realised we are the same age because I snooped on your profile [stalker emotion]

Whoknows - sorry about your leak. Hoe it gets fixed properly soon!

Does everyone else get completely thrown off at the weekend??

I have a male friend :o coming to visit for two weeks in 10 days so I have til then to make the place shine. (not that he doesn't know what a mucky thing I am, he does) Have broken down the whole house into a list of tasks. A very very very long list. A 4 A4 pages list.

So to do
As much of the damn list as possible.

CarpeJugulum · 13/08/2012 11:01

I need a list. To get a list, I need motivation. So far today, I have neither of these things, and I have guests this afternoon. I have also done this today Blush

I suspect DS's nap time will be a bit frantic.

Someone kick me up the arse please?

ChitchatAtHome · 13/08/2012 11:11

Flying- will have to try doing some hanging baskets like that next year, sounds like a great idea.

Scruffy - I think the best thing to do is to put little spikes in your flower beds so the cats can?t settle down to do their business. Course doesn?t really work if you little ones around (or are prone to walking on your own spikes Hmm)

Toffee - see, this is why I want a cat!!! Grin I?ve only just read about the meteor showers, what a shame I didn?t get to see them. Hope you feel better soon.

WhoKnows - big congratulations on keeping things going with maintenance ? this is where I fail all the time! Hope your boiler gets fixed soon. Had to go without water for half a day (when I put a nail through a water pipe Blush) and that was bad enough. Knocked on next door neighbours door to get a few jugs of water to keep us going.

PA - oh you are a brave soul! I love reading your updates.

OFM - oh dear, doesn?t sound like a nice break at all.

Swan - sounds like you had a lovely holiday. One of the nicest cooking methods for holidays is a bbq. We have a kettle bbq (weber) and it does fabulous roasts as well as normal bbqing. Well done on the weight loss .... sigh..... got to address my own body clutter.....

Lauren - two lovely date nights.... very, very nice!

Bitchy - two weeks! Gosh that must be hard. Enjoy curling up with a good book.

Engels - I feel the same way, the Olympics took over here!

MsOna - good luck with that list!!!

Who watched the closing ceremony? Absolutely awesome, loved every bit of it! So sad now though that the Olympics is over.

Although it doesn?t feel as though I accomplished all that much over the weekend I did manage to get the Utility room completely emptied and cleaned up. Decluttered quite a few things from there and from the shed as well. DH took a car load full of stuff to the refuse centre.

Absolutely determined to declutter. So disheartened that I can only have a couple of rooms tidy at a time because the others are bunked up with clutter.

Just had a look at the heading for today?s mission and thought ? ooh, bathrooms are ok, probably won?t need to do that. Then I read it.... damn. Absolutely do need to do this one!!! Don?t have an office, but I need to create one. But to do that I need to get the spare room working..... sigh..... So my part 2 mission is to clear the space in the spare room which will become my office. Shall I choose a spot facing the window or facing away from the window? We have a beautiful view from that room, and I can see myself losing too much time gazing out of the window, but it is so very therapeutic looking out that way. Hmm... what to do, what to do.

Oh and home bleugh day ? can?t even reach most of the floor space upstairs, so it will have to be limited to down stairs and the stairwell Blush

I have two weeks where I actually need to accomplish a LOT ? decluttering, tidying and decorating. And at the same time keeping the DSs entertained. Need to get the house remortgaged and so the house needs to be revalued at the end of the month to take into account all the building work.... eek! I feel like hyperventilating now.
My to do lists are too big to even try to get my head around, but will go something like this:

-Mission
-Home bleugh (downstairs)
-puttying and sanding 3 x downstairs doors
-undercoating 3 x downstairs doors and 2x upstairs doors
-painting 3 x downstairs doors and 2 x upstairs doors (not likely, but I can dream!!)
-1 x load of gentle wash
-2 x baskets of ironing
-15 minute kitchen tidy up
-15 minute bedroom declutter

Tada:
-3 x loads of washing washed and hung up outside to dry.
-Dishwasher emptied and reloaded
-DSs fed, dressed and ?kicked?encouraged outside to play
-2 baskets of ironing done and put away

Now you lot have been my morning tea break, so I had better get back to work.

ChitchatAtHome · 13/08/2012 11:12

Bloody hell, that wasn't an update, that was a novel!!! Blush Sorry everyone!!

CarpeJugulum · 13/08/2012 11:44

Put a wash on and laid away all the other washing... Still doesn't make a dent in the crap I need to sort.

DS off for nap soon, and then I shall become superwoman for 30 mins maximum tidying and then a s&s of the loo, and a quick hoover and after that, if she mentions it, she can have a duster... Grin

Makingchanges · 13/08/2012 11:49

Morning all

I am back from a lovely weekend away but a late night watching the closing ceremony and being too hot to sleep means I am a little ratty and not at my best today.

Whoknows and Bitchy I hope both yhour Doc appointments go ok and that your leak doesn't get any worse whoknows.

Toffee I bet you house is a lot quieter today with only one dog.

Waves to everyone else.

Well todays list is as follows:-

  • Go to post office to pick up a parcel
  • At least two loads of washing
  • Sort out post and paperwork mountain on kitchen side.
  • Unpack bags from weekend away.
  • Into town to see golden post box Hmm
  • shop for a pair of converse for an early birthday present (Have convinced DH to buy me a pair even though he says I definately don't need any more shoes. Hes also agreed to have them a month early so I can take them on holiday next week)
  • DD to Swimming lessons
  • Whats for tea?
  • Run hoover around the downstairs
  • Make plans for rest of week.
ToffeeWhirl · 13/08/2012 12:43

Just back from doc's. As suspected, I have a chest infection. She gave me antibiotics. I could have kissed her! I was so worried that she'd say I didn't need them and to just let the infection run its course.

Came home to lavish greetings from the BT, who we had left alone for the first time. Have managed to give her a walk round the block, and am now going to hand computer over to DS2 so I can rest Smile.
