Fledglings Fly into July!

BlueEyeshadow · 30/06/2012 21:28

Welcome to the July 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us throughout June!! Thanks

If your house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All welcome!!

Apologies for starting the thread so late - it took SC lobbing the duster at me to make me remember it's July tomorrow (and I've blatantly cut and pasted her OP too)!

The first baby step is to shine your sink! See here for the Fat Fairy's tutorial...

No mission because it's Sunday. But here's the flight plan for established flyers

Oh dear MC - Hope tomorrow's better!

Today improved, and I carried on reading Calmer, Easier, Happier in an effort to find out how I should have handled DS1 this morning... He's still very under the weather and supposed to be doing various sports things tomorrow and going to MIL's on his own on Wed... Hmm Confused

Also remains to be seen if I'll be able to walk tomorrow as have been to Zumba for the first time since hurting my foot... would have to choose the hottest day for months to go back!

Bitchy - yeah, the weird yellow thing's been spotted here too.

I'm sure I spotted SC as she cantered through as well -

Glad you had a good time Toffee.

Night all.

Morning people! Another beautiful day here. Not much flying to report really. Decided yesterday it was too nice to do housework so went and bought dc's a new paddling pool and then spent the rest of the day lounging around. Today, I suspect, will be much the same.

Today's babystep consists of the infamous Swish and Swipe. One that genuinely does make a difference.

The Flight Plan including mission and zone cleaning is here.

Have a good day everyone.

WitchyBitchy · 24/07/2012 10:07

Morning.
Am going to make the most of ds still being in school by gutting my bedding. I reckon tomo he will just want to veg out and play on the wii. And as that is in my room for control of access reasons I will be unable to get in there tomo.

Aiming for a huge ta da list despite the weather.

remember to drink loads of water in this heat! Enjoy!

ToffeeWhirl · 24/07/2012 10:16

Morning everyone. Not sure what today holds in store in the Toffee household as DS1 was very sick last night and DS2 is still sleeping, which suggests he's not so well either. I think we may have to take it easy today. Luckily, I have a children's film on DVD (Hotel for Dogs), so we may just cuddle up on the sofa together and have a film afternoon (with sick bowl at the ready Wink).

SC - thanks for tip about Collies. We are no nearer choosing. I still have reservations about having a Collie, to be honest. We'll see how the summer goes with the Border Terrier visitor.

Sorry - can't do any more personals, but waves to you all.

Hope you all get out to enjoy the sunshine!

Makingchanges · 24/07/2012 11:11

Bitchy good luck with the bedroom gutting. If i'm honest thats what I need.
Toffee hope everyone feels better soon.
ellie paddling pool sounds lovely - May do that tomorrow if weather stays as it is.

Well I've had a good morning so far. DH has woke up in a far less annoying mood and DD let me lie in til 8am. Spent the morning trying on my sale purchases from where I was housebound with illness last week. DH approves of most of them so I get to keep them. I;ve bought loads of dresses and gone for completely different styles to usual to try and encourage me to get a bit more style Blush Even bought a suit that DH thinks looks lovely (I'm large and huge of bust so this is difficult) and it was only £35 in the sale!!

FIL has just called and asked if they can take DD out to the park for water play and a picnic. As I was only taking her to the small local park anyway I jumped at the chance as I now get to tidy up in peace.

Todays list

  • Tidy away school bags and my bags / shoes from bottom of stairs
  • Strip and wash and dry DDs bed
  • Tidy lounge
  • Hoover throughout downstairs
  • Paperwork mountain
  • 15 minutes in my bedroom

Should be achieveable. Back later

Yeah Lauren it's great!

This is the first week in a scarily long time that I have not had a depressed day. It's also the first week of this board/flying and the first week of my thankful board. Coincidence? I think not :)

Makingchanges · 24/07/2012 15:05

If DH did such a good job tidying the lounge yesterday (as he is claiming) how come its taken until now for me to 'finish it off'

That is all. As you were

laurenamium · 24/07/2012 16:56

Grin mc

Makingchanges · 24/07/2012 17:38

OK Lounge is finished...and DD is currently messing it back up again. It was nice for about 10 minutes.

Stairs are completely clear of clutter (I mean nothing at all on them - for the first time in probably a good few months) and hoovered - Need a good mop but I'll wait until DH returns as I know as soon as I get the mop out he will want to go upstairs and get changed.

I have hoovered throughout the downstairs except DHs office (Dining room) which I have now found out is where he dumped the stuff from the 'excellently' Hmm tidied lounge so I am now boycotting it.

Have arranged a day out with BF for later in the week and am now having a break before contemplating tea - Would it be unreasonable to go to the pub across the road or get a takeaway? Wink

Still to do

  • paperwork mountain
  • shreading (Paperwork not mad exercise)
  • remake DDs bed with now dry and clean bedding.

I need alcohol and a shower. Alcohol first though Grin

WitchyBitchy · 24/07/2012 18:16

Ta da:
Clean sink
empty bath
clean bath
empty bins
put bins to disinfect
put shower head in to soak
leave toilet cleaner in toilet

yesterday's bedroom mission
School run + 15mins walk to ease body into life post yesterday's training marathon

5mins in ds' room
15mins decluttering in my room
3rd load of laundry
2 loads of handwashing
Sort out ds' pe kit.
Collect uniform together for sorting out (delabelling grownout/worn out stuff)
wrap present for parcel
Construct plan of action for the rest of week and next week.

get ds to write a card
sort out what is for tea
remember that there is a huge bag of water bombs lurking and try to locate.
go through woeful contents of medicine box and consider what is needed

Just need to finish the bathroom and then I am going on tidying up strike for the night, grabbing a shower and hitting the paperwork. Although tbh I would quiet like an early night.

Makingchanges · 24/07/2012 22:41

Ok left the tidying and went to the pub for tea. When I came back I put the convertible roof on my car for the nice weather. Its a new car to me and had no instructions so took a good few hours. Just finished and got DD to go to bed so I'm off myself in a minute and will have to catch up on this evenings jobs tomorrow.

Hope everyone else has enjoyed the sun today

Arsing internet is still playing up so no linkies however you can get the mission from my previous posts, zone is the Master Bedroom and the babystep is a non step if you see what I mean. Today's babystep is to have pride in what you have doneGrin.

PositiveAttitude · 25/07/2012 09:51

Cooooweeee!! Helloooooo everyone. Smile

Just popping in to say a big hello to you all. You had fallen off my "i'm on" threads, so had to find you again.

Well, I have arrived safely. I feel as if we have been plucked from earth and dropped on Mars!! I won't be discussing shiny sinks and lace up shoes indoors, that's for sure! I made an attempt this morning to be with the ladies who live down our "street" to do the washing. (no washing machines) They all managed to get perfectly clean clothes and not a drop of water on themselves. I was drenched and my clothes look as dirty as they did before I started. They all sit in the street and wash together as a social thing. Today I was their entertainment. Smile
I have been eaten alive by mosquitoes, too. Grrrr! Angry
Its 38 degrees on the thermometer in the kitchen, which is the coolest place in the house. I must have sweated buckets!
I am determined to keep this place clean and tidy. We only arrived with a suitcase each, so we havent got a lot more than the clothes we need, so it should be easy enough.

Huge waves to you all and I hope you are enjoying the Summer that now seems to have arrived in England.

WitchyBitchy · 25/07/2012 10:08

PA! Lovely to hear you got there safely. even if you are having a few teething problems. Grin

British summer is sudden and unexpected thus ability to cope is deminished. Soooooo glad We don't have your temperatures!

BlueEyeshadow · 25/07/2012 11:51
  • nice to hear from you!

Have just waved DS1 off for a few days at MIL's. DS2 is at the CM and decidedly miffed about it. Ought to do house bleugh as no work. But it's sunny...

OP posts:
elliepac · 25/07/2012 12:08

Waves to paGrin. Glad to hear you got there safely and are settling in ok! The thought of that heat brings me out in a sweat though. I struggle once it's past 25!

Do you ever start something and wish you never hadGrin. This morning I have cleared out/rearranged kitchen cupboards. Found several out of date items and sone rotting carrots . Have also done some washing and dc's have tidied their bedrooms. I have yet to inspect themWinkGrin. Have DN here for the day whilst dsis goes on an exciting mission so she is entertaining dc's. Am going to leave the dumping ground pantry until tomorrow. Rome wasn't built in a day and all thatGrin

Back later.

WitchyBitchy · 25/07/2012 13:11

Erm ellie - don't forget to rest and enjoy your summer too.

Ds is in can't cope mode so we are going no where. He is running around in just pants and is currently delighted by some joke chewing gum that I brought him back as a treat for being good whilst grannie looked after him earlier. He is sounding a little calmer but not sure if that is the true emotion atm. Need to see if he can handle eye contact. But until swimming there is no point in picking that battle.
