Fledglings Fly into July!

BlueEyeshadow · 30/06/2012 21:28

Welcome to the July 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us throughout June!! Thanks

If your house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All welcome!!

Apologies for starting the thread so late - it took SC lobbing the duster at me to make me remember it's July tomorrow (and I've blatantly cut and pasted her OP too)!

The first baby step is to shine your sink! See here for the Fat Fairy's tutorial...

No mission because it's Sunday. But here's the flight plan for established flyers

evening all
No FLYing done Blush
have however managed:
dd4 dispatched to party in fancy dress with presents
dd1 and 2 to horse riding
remained calm mostly all day despite dd1s MOST foul mood!
been to shop for more wool
food shop
celebratory end of term pizzas for tea!
looked through copious bags of work dc brought home
sorted clothes for dc for tomorrow (early start)

was slightly dismayed to read DD3 description of her home/family in one of her work books which went something along the lines of
"my house is messy and noisy, and everyone is always fighting, fighting, fighting. Nothing but fighting." Shock Sad (although slightly less legibly than that given her difficulties.)
Her teacher bless her had written "R You are from a big family like me. It is great fun isn't it!"
am feeling quite gutted by that....but trying not to dwell on it.....more stoke to the Mummy guilt fire though Sad

anyway...tomorrow WILL be a good day Wink

now need to go make up picnic.....

blue hope ds is feeling better soon. Dd was poorly in the week but whimpered everytime she moved and in the end I ended up mad rather than sympathetic too.

ofm I hope your race goes well tomorrow. I know a few people doing a 29k tomorrow, u bet it's the same race Grin dd gets the same about activities in the summer and we do end ip missing a few as they never seem as important in the hols.

Ellie glad you had a nice evening last night and good you have a nice time with your friend.

I can't remember whose friend sorted her garden out and can't scroll but sounds like a lovely think to do.

Ok well went to hairdressers this morning and a 40 minute appointment took 2 hours so DH a bit grumpy by time I came home. On plus side though DHs cricket cancelled due to heavy rain yesterday ( even though bright sunshine today) so we have fled to Lincolnshire to inlaws caravan for the evening. I've even been to local shop for some relaxing alcohol ( and got id'd at 32 - my new haircut must take years off me) so I'm hoping for a relaxing evening.

Total amount of flying done today - zero

WitchyBitchy · 22/07/2012 01:16

fucking hell today was 100% more insane then predicted. Shock

night.

Engelsmeisje · 22/07/2012 07:09

ofm I am one of 4. My brother and I would go through phases of hating each other and being best friends, I shared a bedroom with both my sisters until I was 15 which wasn't always peace and serenity and we used to wind up my youngest sister mercilessly - but I can honestly say I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I was never bored as a kid, but also managed to find time to be alone (I remember going to stay with ym aunt and uncle who only had one child, and after a few days my aunt started asking me if I wnated to go home - I kept saying , not yet, not yet - ended up staying for 2 weeks! Think I just enjoyed the peace and quiet for a change).

I wouldn't change it for the world. DH is one of 2 and doesn't get the appeal of having so many to my great disappointment (I don't think I'm going to get my way!).

After my 6 hour gardening marathon yesterday, heading to ILs caravan today to relax.

laurenamium · 22/07/2012 08:36

Morning all,

Will be back to catch up at some point today just wanted to post body clutter before my Sunday starts!

Body clutter: have lost 1pound this week which isn't too bad considering last night I ate half a large dominoes pizza and chocolate Blush

Trazzletoes · 22/07/2012 09:26

Morning! Mugs of tea all round... My sink is still shiny! Which means my kitchen sides are clean too. You're right, it is all about the baby steps. DS still resisting potty training so more washing than anticipated. Sigh. Just need to put it away... Today involves a trip to the park... I still haven't sorted through DD's clothes. Been meaning to do it for weeks. Must. Just. Get. It. Done!!!

BlueEyeshadow · 22/07/2012 10:31

Well done on the shiny sink Trazzletoes!

Body clutter: have lost 1.8lb this week and am wearing a skirt that was a little tight when I bought it. Now fits perfectly. Yesterday, I wore a skirt that hasn't fitted since pre-DS2! Grin Today might be interesting though - there's a pizza lunch followed by "scones of praise" (groooooooan!!) at church...

OverflowingMum · 22/07/2012 14:45

afternoon all

mc evening at caravan sounds good. How cool to be asked for ID LOL You must look fab!

engels sounds as if your family was great fun growing up. It is good to hear you wouldnt change it! It is always busy and noisy here....but like you say they always have someone to play with. My neice is an only child and dsis is always moaning about how lonely she is, asking if she can come visit her cousins LOL

tazzletoes yay for shiny sink...baby steps all the way Wink

lauren well done on body clutter

blue also great news on body clutter front

right...well , have been for run. Was lovely. DD3,4 and ds2 did park run and loved it, then dd1 and 2 and dh did fun run, and then I went off for a very hilly, very muddy/rocky/wet scenic 10K. Must say it was hard going. I am not in as good shape as when I did it last year, but still managed to be only 1 minute longer, despite much more mud and slippy conditions through the woods...so not too bad.
Then had nice picnic in the park, and dc played in playground.
Now all home....must say I am a tad exhausted now. especially as we had to set off early...
planning on mostly chilling for rest of the day...although house IS a mess....but will do a blitz later...
now off to get a drink (non-alcoholic, still re-hydrating!)

MsOnatopp · 22/07/2012 18:05

Hello everyone. The house is a tip but for other non house related issues I has a brilliant day yesterday so not even this shit hole that I call home will bring me down. Thing I need to get the rubber gloves on have a 2 -3 hour deep clean at least.

Wish me luck Wink

MsOnatopp · 23/07/2012 00:19

Oh dear, that obviously made little sense! Anyway I did get some cleaning done but so much more to do tomorrow. Better get some rest!

WitchyBitchy · 23/07/2012 00:46

MsOna - it made perfect sense to me.

So it is now monday. Still school here and a training day. Stupidly huge amounts of training. Didn't think the schedule through when it was organised.

So today's plan goes like this:
early training
tackling the chaos/ sleep
ds' training

i reckon tomo is going to be a right off. which is a pita. Anyhows see you in a few hours...

WitchyBitchy · 23/07/2012 07:57

Early training done
been admiring this strange weather. Unusual for around these parts Wink

One load of washing on.

Engelsmeisje · 23/07/2012 08:04

Body clutter: lost 0.7kg! (but still heavier than when I started MFP 3 weeks ago or so!).

Unusual? You mean sun witchy ? Grin

Ta da
Washing away
changed ds bed
washing-up done

not sure whether to carry on in the house and tidy or head out into the garden?

elliepac · 23/07/2012 08:15

Morning all! And a beautiful morning it is tooSmile.

Arsing internet is playing up this morning so can't post linkies as am posting on my phone and it is far too complicated to do them on here.

However, your babystep for today is setting an afternoon routine. This is tailored to you. So it may be a get home from school run routine or a get home from work routine, whatever suits you best.

This week we are in the Master Bedroom and the mission is to spend 15 minute tossing trash. Habit of the month is Swish and Swipe and it is Home Bleugh Day.

Hope that is suffice so you can crack on. Hopefully internet will behave itself later on.

Back later!

laurenamium · 23/07/2012 09:18

Morning! Just a list dump for now while I'm waiting on mindees arriving!

To do:
Walk dogs
Home bleugh
Wash doors and windows
Wash bedding
Put away laundry
Pick up dog poo
Go to the bank
Food shop
Shred
Bath both dogs
Wash bath mats and towels

BlueEyeshadow · 23/07/2012 10:34

Morning!

First day of the holidays not going well so far. DS1 and I have had a spectacular falling out, despite all my best endeavours. Peace restored at the moment, but DS2 is wandering around saying "Mummy, I want you to play that blasted game!" - at least it's only blasted... Blush

Sigh. Have done lots of sweeping and decluttering in the utility room though. May attempt the bedroom mission later.

OP posts:
MsOnatopp · 23/07/2012 11:07

Morning all!! [Snaffles some of Toffee's prosecco with morning offee]

Just cantering in and out. Have been back a few days and leaving again shortly (with nephew b'day, dh and I anniversary and dd b'day in between). Rabbit sitter has done good job as her charges are fine but for some reason there is lots of bits of hay scattered about sitting room and everywhere looking messy Confused Also sorting out admin for my mother's will Sad House in general a bit chaotic and body v cluttered so business as usual!!

Hope everyone OK!!!

No time to catch up properly but just wanted to shove my muzzle through the door and whinny a loud "hellloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"!!

Ellie have been thinking about you. I'm not surprised you are going through major wobbles in the circumstances - must be such an unsettling time for you all - but sure you will come out the other side stronger. Hope you are being kind to yourself x

Has PA left for Cambodia I wonder? Any news????? [Mahoosively encouraging wing flaps if so!! Bon courage!!]

Huge welcomes to newcomers Trazzletoes MsOnatopp
and Pantone [nosy emoticon - wonders excitedly if you are graphic artist/illustrator - something have always aspired to doing]

Lauren hope horse rehabilitation progressing well

Engels (one of four here too - wished the same for dd as don't know how I would survive without my lovely siblings but sadly wasn't to be) Came home from mini trip to discover an e-mail from dd's French teacher saying "sorry to be contacting you so late" (only 2 wks in to holiday). Mini Sanguinechompa can send her hwk to this address". We had been expecting work sheets etc and dd had kept v. quiet about French grammar book burning a hole in her rucksack! [Big sighs all around] Agree with you about holiday hwk - just wanted her to completely shake off all the rigours of previous term. V. dedicated teacher though Smile

OFM your dd3's teacher sounds absolutely fab!!

Blue and Honu (and others!) well done re: weight loss!!

Eh up to Witchy Grin

Has Swan swanned off to Ireland? Grin [Huge wing flaps if so]

Whoknows and everyone - dd (when younger) used to escape from the bathroom regularly (she hates getting wet) and do 3 or 5 frantic laps around our (overlooked) garden wearing nothing but pants on her head Grin Fortunately that phase seemed to just fizzle out by itself ...Grin

Humungous holiday waves to Linzer Feetheart Nicknacks Foad Carpe Likelucklove Kiwi Maggie Nettie, Thistime, Scruffybear, WisteriaWoman, Letherebe MustTidy, Jacqui, MC and anyone I've missed (with sincere apologies for my woeful performance on MFP!! Grin)

Makingchanges · 23/07/2012 12:07

SC Yes PA has left for Cambodia.

Ellie i'm really glad this week is master bedroom as, despite spending an entire sunday on it a few weeks ago its in desperate need of some TLC

OK so far

  • two loads of washing sorted.
  • Free activities booklet downloaded to take a gander at later.
  • been to local shop for bread and sausages for breakfast sandwiches all round

To Do

  • Sort out summer camp days and days the GPs might want DD
  • More laundry (It hasn't been touched all week)
  • Empty school bags for me and DD and pe kit bags to be washed.
  • Tidy both bathrooms
  • Contact new swimming pool about changing lessons as not sure DDs current lessons are helping her at all.
  • Update diary with various activities, dentist and doctors appointments
  • Update CV and send to new Supply agency as requested.
  • 15 minutes declutter of kitchen
  • 15 minutes declutter of lounge
  • pick up playmobile school on offer at argos and take to GPs for storage until DDs birthday

And trust me thats not even touching the sides of the jobs I've got to get through this holiday.

But first a nice cuppa Wink

ToffeeWhirl · 23/07/2012 12:21

Back from an extremely relaxing overnight stay at a country hotel with DH. It was so quiet. Made me realise how noisy my daily life is. We almost couldn't go because DS2 developed a high temperature and started saying the light was hurting his eyes, so we all panicked, but after Calpol and a little sleep he suddenly perked up and just has a bit of a cold this morning.

Back to earth with a bump today as the first thing I had to do when we arrived home was put the rubbish out. DH has gone to work, my Mum has gone home and I now have four boys to look after for the day as both boys have a friend over. Am packing up sandwiches and getting them out - thank goodness for sunny weather.

PA left on 15th July, I think. I hope she'll get time to update us sometimes, but, if not, I'm looking forward to her newsletters. What an adventure!

DS2's friend has arrived, so I'd better go and make lunch and get them all out into the sunshine.

sanguinechompa · 23/07/2012 13:11

Pours MC another Brew Ohhh, how exciting for PA!!!!

Toffee Forgot to mention!!!! Was thinking of you whilst away. Was talking to someone who said that collie's generally had v. v.good health (and whippets) and do not suffer from the many ailments suffered by pedigree dogs because they are exclusively bred for temperament/working ability and not for looks. Sounds obvious but hadn't really twigged this properly. Got to be a v. good thing. Any nearer choosing btw? Your luxury night away sounds fab and glad your ds2 recovered OK!

sanguinechompa · 23/07/2012 13:13

and OFM congrats on your run!! Brilliant achievement, partic. with everything else you have going on!!

WitchyBitchy · 23/07/2012 14:15

Oh is that what it is? Confused

Grin

Sooo glad that this is master bedroom week. It really really really needs it.

have slept. And am now going to enjoy a lovey shower and tackle a few bits of hand washing before ds' training. There has been work on getting the sink in the laundry room plumbed in. But it has mean that yesterday the water was off. I want to get bits done whilst there is water. Cos who knows when it will go off temporarily again. Will be back with a ta da list later.

MsOnatopp · 23/07/2012 18:16

Dishes seem to have done loads but there is more Angry
Bed at reasonable hour

Makingchanges · 23/07/2012 21:43

Wow well done msonatopp

Ok I'm in a foul mood. I have spent all day tidying under the stairs and doing laundry and trying to entertain DD. I've finally cleared under the stairs - Still loads more to do with sorting boxes etc but its the clearest its been in ages but I know it won't last as its DHs dumping ground.

Meanwhile DH has been 'working' from home (surfing the net) and moaning as he is feeling ill, still managed a massive argument and then to go out to a meeting. Still no luck in finding missing library books that have been missing over two months so that is tomorrows job, along with a trip to the tip to dump DHs attempt at clearing DDs bedroom that has resulted in piles of black bags dumped at the top of the stairs.

DH has gone out, DD has gone to bed and I've opened the gin. I hope the holidays improve!
