Fledglings Fly in Flaming June; C.H.A.O.S. will be banished soon!

Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Get ready for another week! How are all you newcomers getting on btw?

Tomorrow's baby-step, number eleven for Monday 11th June is here and is about adding an inspirational page to your cj - can take it or leave it frankly Wink

Tomorrow, we will be starting in Zone 3, the bathroom + one extra room Try and spend 15 mins decluttering in current zone.

If your zone 3 is already decluttered, you can progress to detailed cleaning

You can find tomorrow's mission (and indeed all the missions for the week ahead) here

We are still trying to drink more water in June here

The daily focus for Monday is the home blessing or what we call on here the "daily bleugh". The idea is to do a general quick clean of your house in about an hour (many of us find that quite challenging!) but remember we are not aiming for perfection.

If I've missed anything it will be here on the flight plan and here is the kid's challenge. Both should update.

[Body Clutter Digression Likelucklove have had a look around the Flylady site and it looks like you have to sign up for Body Clutter daily reminders/e-mails etc which I would rather not do (for fear of being inundated). So perhaps we should just report weight loss regularly if you want to? Sunday weigh-ins or something? Whatever you think will work best.]

Have a good week everyone!!

Lauren well done on losing 20lbs!! [proffers hair of dog-- hangover remedy]

What does everyone else think please about combining this thread with weight loss? Don't want to put off those who aren't interested and can always start a different thread. Please let me know if you have any strong views either way!!

Off to bed myself now. G'night all!

LLL We're just the other side of the estuary from Talybont - about 5 miles from the village which has been on TV all today - not on holiday though - we live here! We have escaped unscathed but all around friends have been flooded and/or evacuated. Better news this pm though as everyone was allowed home, now the clear-up begins...water is SO destructive Sad

Well, am starting to make a dent in the washing - ta da's today...

3 loads of washing and drying = nice pile of ironing to do in the morning Hmm
Massive declutter of our bedroom
Cleaned out guinea pigs
Walked dog (and DS2)
Baked a cake

Tomorrow...
Am going to re-register as a supply teacher at the local high school

sanguinechompa · 10/06/2012 22:14

x posts

Good luck tomorrow Maggie you'll be just great and we're all behind you!!! Let us know how it goes

Sorry to hear about your friends being flooded. Aside from financial and sentimental losses - it must be so demoralising.

Didn't know you had piggies!!! Wheeek! Wheeek! They are so lovely (we lost our beloved sows earlier in the year). What do you have?

See you all in the morning!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/06/2012 22:48

Talking of floods, I was upstairs just now watching a bit of telly in bed, when I thought I heard the sound of running water. Our bathroom is downstairs and the DCs had been asleep the last time I checked, so I went to DD's room to investigate.

She was sitting on her desk chair in the middle of the floor, knickers round her ankles having the most massive wee, fast asleep. Luckily she had left her clothes under the chair and they and the rug soaked it all up, so it's all gone in the WM and she's washed and back in bed now, but that was one of my most bizarre parenting incidents to date I think. DS is going to be so cross he missed it, he would have thought it hilarious.

YY to some diet encouragement. I started MyFitnessPal last year, but slipped, then I went low GI during Lent, but I have slipped back again the last few weeks and need a serious boot up the bum, especially as exercise is proving hard.

ToffeeWhirl · 10/06/2012 23:23

WhoKnows - that is bizarre! Your DD must have thought she was on the loo. Did she wake up at all whilst you were washing her?

SC - I don't mind if you combine the thread with weight loss. I've been trying to lose a bit of weight too, although, oddly, I seem to have lost weight whilst on holiday which I hadn't expected. The heat seemed to put me off eating Confused.

PA - good luck with the interviews. Very tricky about your friend applying, but you'll be doing nobody any favours if you choose the wrong person for the job, including her. We didn't choose a dog today, but thanks for asking. It was more of an exploratory trip and an opportunity to get DS1 out again. It proved really useful as the woman we spoke to there said she thought we'd be better off with a puppy (which is what we wanted anyway) and that a Border Collie (which DS1 has set his heart on) would be fine for us provided we were prepared to put the work in with exercise and lots of play (DS1 was almost jumping with excitement at that prospect). We have come home with a questionnaire to fill in, although it's probably unlikely we'd get Border Collie puppies from a rescue centre and we'll need to look elsewhere.

Maggie - glad to hear you escaped the floods, but sorry to hear about all those who haven't been so lucky.

Blue - yes, hairwashing night sounds like murder in our house too. I'm afraid I chickened out tonight, partly because DS2 had been watching 'Harry Hill' with DH and shrieking with laughter and it made him (DS2, not DH Wink) overexcited and, frankly, a bit loopy Hmm. Lesson learned: no 'Harry Hill' before bed.

lauren - sympathies re the hangover. Coca Cola, bacon and eggs and paracetamol cured me last time (the sliding-down-the-stairs on NY Eve incident Blush).

likelove - thanks for the welcome back. I am looking forward to feeling re-energised by running. For some reason, the holiday has left me feeling utterly exhausted!

In bed already. Not like me at all. Back to the school routine tomorrow.

Night all.

elliepac · 11/06/2012 06:24

Morning all!

Back to reality after the most lovely half term. We got back from the caravan yesterday afternoon but I cunningly arranged for the cleaner to come over the weekend so the place isn't looking too bad this morning. Had the most lovely time with my friend and her DS and then DH joined us over the weekend.

This is the last crazy week at school with both History exam papers this week and hopefully things should then calm down, although then the marking of exam papers will commence.

Flying wise not much to report but am hoping to get back into the swing of things so am going to list post. DC's not back at school until tomorrow so that makes this morning more of a gentle easing back into things rather than mad rush.

To do:-

Sort uniforms/book bags etc for tomorrow
Make pack-up
Tidy away breakfast stuff
Work
Dinner
Washing up
15 mins in our bedroom (it is such a state that rather than do one big tidy I have decided to do 15 minutes a day until it's tidy)
MOrning routine
Evening routine
DS to cubs.

That will do for today. I don't mind combining with weightloss seeing as I am currently on a bit of a health kick myself. I think turning 35 has hit a core with me and I am determined not to be a lardarse anymore. Have started C25K and have also started a new philosophy of not eating crap.

Am going to catch up with the thread.

Have a good day everyone!

CarpeJugulum · 11/06/2012 06:55

Ooh, I'm in with the weight loss. Was 11.5 stone on the 1st (got the nurse to weigh me while I was there for other matters) but don't know what I am now. Must dig out either a) scales or b) wii-fit.

Started my fitness pal app too, but it's a bit of a slog to get the time to put stuff in. Will try to be good this week though.

Right, back with finalised list later...

PositiveAttitude · 11/06/2012 07:28

Morning all Smile

I am up for the weightloss, and probably the one that needs its the most on here. But I am also thinking that life is so mad for me at the moment that I probably wont be able to add too much and I am seriously hoping that, like you toffee , I will lose weight in the heat from July. I normally cant eat in the heat, so that has been my plan excuse for being lardy arse and doing nothing about it

Busy day today when is it not???
Work - job 2 - training of successor. I am sure it will go well, but I don't actually get my normal work done as I spend time explaining things!
Take DD1 to Dr for some tests
Take DD3 to consultant for her final paediatric appointment as she is now under adult care, which is, basically, non-existent, so we are feeling a bit Hmm about it all.
Food shopping
Friend over for a meal tonight
All with a smattering of washing/hoovering/kitchen floor cleaning/ironing etc. thrown in for good measure.

Some birthday cake still hanging around, so I will leave some on the side for you all. Virtual cake has no calories, so help yourself! Grin

laurenamium · 11/06/2012 08:20

carpe my myfitnesspal name is laurenamium if you want to add me Smile I've just joined the support thread on here for it too.

List dump
Home bleugh
Clean mirrors windows and doors
Walk dog
Mission

That's ut for now

Brices · 11/06/2012 08:25

Had friends round for dinner yesterday. Didn't get as stressed beforehand about state of house trusting the flylady system works.

If this thread enables me to have a clean house I would love to think it could help me lose weight too! I have been listening to paul McKenna I can make you thin. Must weigh myself to see if it's working.

To Do:-
C25k jog
Hoover
Dust
Change beds
Mirrors clean
s&s
Mop floors
Empty bins
Laundry load
15 mins clean bathroom
Mission clear out bathroom shelves
Yoga class

Best get to it.... Have a good day everyone

sanguinechompa · 11/06/2012 09:02

Sorry about thsi everyone but would someone mind taking over the thread temporarily please?

I have come down with vomiting and diarrohea. DD with sore throat, shakes, headache. Dh away. Wierd, as we were fine yesterday.

Thanks!

OP posts:
CarpeJugulum · 11/06/2012 09:12

Thanks laurenamium!

I haven't any friends (awwwwwww! Wink) so have been muddling along solo - maybe if I know someone can see it, then I'll be more motivated!

Have tried to add you, so let me know if you don't get anything!

(Also, there's a support thread? )

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/06/2012 09:13

I'm happy to take over SC - hope you feel better soon

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/06/2012 09:16

Carpe, Lauren, feel free to add me too, I'm mrsdinky1 on MFP. I've just looked at it and realised I haven't used it for months, time to start again.

Carpe - it takes a week or so to get all your regular food plugged into it, then it gets a lot easier. The thing I don't like is if you suddenly eat something at a different meal, you know it's in there but can't find it because it's associated with lunch, when you want to add it as dinner. I ought to check for upgrades. I'll think about joining a thread, not sure about that right now.

CarpeJugulum · 11/06/2012 09:21

Oooh laurenamium is that you on the photo?

You're sooooo pretty!

Thanks WhoKnows will add you too!

laurenamium · 11/06/2012 09:24

Awww thanks carpe Blush bit chunky but yes that's me this weekend Smile

CarpeJugulum · 11/06/2012 09:29

Well, if we're 'fessing up - then I've added my photo too.

Taken few weeks ago.

laurenamium · 11/06/2012 09:41

I'll have a nose!! Wink

Actual flying- I need to add to my list, I posted a bit early as had children arriving and as they are all now snoozing (apart from DD who is playing Smile) I can finish it!

Also to do:
My washing
Tidy playroom- my dungeon room
Pick up dog poo!

BBL!

LinzerTorte · 11/06/2012 09:51

Hope you're on the mend soon SC and thanks for taking over WhoKnows.

Have so far managed to fit in a run and the hygienist's this morning, and am now waiting desperately for the hour afterwards to be up so that I can go and make myself a coffee! 10 minutes and counting. Grin

And then I must do something productive in my final child-free hour before DD1 gets home from school. Will start with a coffee, though. Grin

BitchyInTheCorner · 11/06/2012 10:13

Ta da:
up and out
some basic car mechanics
early training and extra training
2nd breakfast out
just going to run an errand in the village (need to redo spot test for hair dye and need cotton buds and ds seems to have disappeared the last few).

Also need to do:
Wash bedding
bins out
put clothes away
paperwork.

I am happy to do body declutter stuff but am not allowed to diet so healthier is good. Would like to run but I think for me walking is probably better. I am rediculously unfit away from my preferred sport. And yes i was shocked to learn this too.

ToffeeWhirl · 11/06/2012 10:34

Poor SC - hope you are better soon. We had a sickness bug that started like that. Fine one minute, feeling dreadful the next. Hope it passes soon.

WhoKnows - thanks for taking over.

PA - it was weird how I lost my appetite on holiday. It was soooo hot that maybe my body only wanted water Confused. It was certainly a pain-free way of losing weight.

Linzer - well done on your morning run!

Ellie - glad you had such a lovely holiday Smile.

Feel like I have done a day's work already. Have only just sat down to eat b/fast, whilst DS1 works on English with his tutor.

Ta da :

Get dressed to flip flops
Tell DS1 off for watching telly (not allowed before school as it causes arguments and makes us late)
B/fast for DS2
Make packed lunch for DS2
Unload d/w
Reload d/w
Wipe kitchen surfaces
Encourage DS2 to get dressed
Give DS1 his meds and fruit juice
Brush DS2's teeth
Comb DS2's hair
Make DS2's bed
Look for shells to represent money in a game DS2 wants to play at school
Give up on the shells and deal with the fall out from DS2
Put the rubbish out! (I remembered Grin)
Put the recycling in their bins
Sort book bag, lunch box, water bottle and PE kit
Walk DS2 to school
Catch up with mums at school (and commiserate on terrible half-term weather without mentioning that I missed it all 'cos we were enjoying the heat in Spain Blush)
2-minute kitchen hotspot tidy
Sweep floors
Find washing
Unload tumbledrier and take clothes upstairs
Wipe dining-room table
Make b/fast for DS1
Remind DS1 to get dressed, brush teeth and comb hair
Make tea
Welcome tutor
Sit down for some MN time and b/fast Grin

I haven't planned the rest of the day at all, so now's my chance to sort out some work for DS1. Expect we'll watch 'Planet Earth', as he likes that. Might get him to do some more research on buying and looking after a puppy, as I picked up lots of info at Dogs Trust yesterday. Maybe I could get him to do some Maths by working out how much it's all going to cost Hmm. Also need to get in touch with the LEA about when they are coming to set up the online learning and get in touch with CAMHS about our next appointment.

Hope everyone has a good day.

sanguinechompa · 11/06/2012 11:05

Thank you Whoknows Much appreciated.

OP posts:
CarpeJugulum · 11/06/2012 11:14

Well, my to/ta-da list is as follows:

~ WAH job - in progress, report compiling
~ trip to tip - done
~ trip to post office to send off driving licence - done
~ put bins out - done
~ strip and wash our bed
~ strip and wash towels - in machine
~ our bathmats - now in tumble, unplanned but had a DS tsunami handwashing incident Hmm

I have also purchased multi-vitamins and a battery for my house scales. I've stood on them, and I am 11 stone, 6 pounds according to them, so a pound down from the start of the month; but I suspect they weigh heavy as they were weighing DS at a higher weight than the HV's way back when.

Still, I will not be downhearted, and I will weigh from now forward on these scales in the same position on the kitchen floor. Naked if I haven't lost any weight Wink.

Hoping the rain stays off so I can cut the grass this afternoon with DS.

Off to finish job, then strip the bed ready for washing!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/06/2012 11:24

OK, I have added a photo to MFP, it's not great as I had to take it myself and I am looking a bit windswept this morning. I bought new bathroom scales last month so I am good to go.

Carpe - lucky you with your rain staying off, it's been chucking it down for hours here. My umbrella broke on the way to school, so I have just stopped off on the way home from Pilates to buy another one. I really liked the broken one Sad.

Went to inspect the school garden, lots of little plants in pots were floating around in trays full of water.

OK, I need to do the following:

Empty and refill DW
Clean kitchen counters and sink
Clean bathroom
Wash towels, bathmats etc
PAperwork
OU work.
