April Fledglings Fly into Spring, Get That Clutter into the Bin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/03/2012 22:47

Welcome to the April 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Come and join us for a bit of chat and a lot of housework (or possibly the other way round).

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us through March

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis. Feel free to browse the Flylady website as well, links below

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

The new website does look much better doesn't it SC, I just need to find my way around a bit more, I couldn't find Missions in the format I was used to seeing, it seemed to be called Fly Spot or something.

Anyway, today, lazy so far. Have got out of bed and been on the computer. DH got the DCs their breakfast before he went to work. DD is going to a friend's house in an hour or so, DS and I are going Easter egg shopping. He has chosen the one he wants, DD says she wants a girly one, the thought of girls and boys Easter eggs makes me a bit sad. In my day you got Smarties or Maltesers, not all this boys/girls/character stuff.

Right, I need to get dressed at least to slippers and get started, have a big pile of washing from the weekend to tackle first, then home blessing.

Welcome back Jnice

Hello people! I'm back with vigour this month.

Yesterday was spent visiting SIL for her birthday, enjoying a lovely roast chicken dinner and the usual Sunday jobs.

DH is finally back to work today!! Woo hoo ! He's been off for 5 weeks recovering from an op. in that time I have waited on him hand and foot, we all had two rounds of D&V, both Ds's had accident (in other ppl's care I might add!) resulting in hospital trips and weirdly they did the same thing - put their teeth through their lips.

Dd also had another two ear infection (9th and 10th perforations for those counting) and I've lost nearly a stone in weight!!!- that's a good thing btw, still another 2 to go.

So first day of the hols - just one baby mindee who sleeps beautifully so can do a reasonable amount of flying this week.

Today-

Empty dw and refill
Clean filter and refill salts and fluids in dw
Declutter hall
Washing and drying one load
Vacuum downstairs
Clean hallway
Mission? Need to go back and read that

Honu I know what you mean about the new pupil! I always make an effort when a prospective parent and child come to visit and for the first few sessions but then things definitely slide!

Have a good day everyone , be back later!

feetheart · 02/04/2012 09:37

Morning all. Lovely sunshine here at the moment and I have 2 extra children entertaining my two though they did turn up before my two were awake Shock

Thank you for best wishes for the disco on Friday. I think we can declare it a HUGE success - over 100 children for the first one (Reception, Yr1 and Yr2) and more for the second. Almost all the children seemed to have a great time, quite a few teachers turned up (a real novelty!) and I have a wonderful vision of over 100 children, plus the head and deputy doing the Macarana at one point :o

VERY, VERY lazy w/e with no-one waking before 10am on Saturday (and DD sleeping till 1pm and DH till 3pm though either of them were feeling very well) I managed to do a food shop out of necessity and took DS to the park for a quick run/cycle around but that was it.

Now I need to get on - little at a time seems to work in the holidays.
Ta da:

  • S&S
  • Washing on
  • Tiny bit of ironing done (little and often!)
  • All last night's ironing put away

To do:

  • Washing up (and shiny sink)
  • Washing on line and second lot in
  • Hoover stairs, hall and living room
  • Hotspots in living room
  • Stuff into car for Refuge (clothes and leftover Easter Eggs from Friday)
  • Freecycle dressing table
  • Photograph stuff for ebay
  • Park with DC
  • Make pizzas to freeze
  • Dinner
  • More ironing

That's more than enough and I'll be impressed if I get half of it done!
Have a good day everyone.

countryandkids · 02/04/2012 10:01

just been sorting through all my tupperware I have 5 lids with no container and 3 containers without any lids, how does that happen!!

MadameMessy · 02/04/2012 10:26

Morning :)
productive morning here so far, ta da :
Have done morning routine of Dw, wm and s&s
Have also got the kids dressed, did some ironing and made our plans for the day.

Nicknacks sounds like you've had a very eventful time of it, no wonder flying fell to the way side!
whoknows that is sad about boy/girl eggs. Dd only cares about getting the most amount of chocolate possible, not what the box looks like. Not sure if it's a good thing or not though!
honu that is a giant list!
sc i am also crap at early nights

am off out now with the kids for the day. Still to do: hotspots and clean washing away(sorted it already this morning!)

BitchyInTheCorner · 02/04/2012 10:43

Morning.
Ds slept til ten. But then dropped a cereal tub in the kitchen fetching his own breakfast. I have yet to go figure out what will need doing with it to return it to a useable kitchen.

I need coffee.

Smallest person always makes most mess and they dont understand that it takes more effort to tidy up then to keep tidy. Well that is the theory but here it is big people who make the most mess. As for tupperwear tubs. melt a lid in the microwave, use a bottom without a top in the garden/diy etc. hth

Right. Task 1 = HUGE pot of coffee and a shower then a load of washing on. Might be back later although there is currently a plan for crazy plans so might not.

MummyNickleby · 02/04/2012 11:08

Morning all Smile
Our w/m broke last Sunday (thankfully I was on the last load of the weekend). New one arrived on Sat, I'm on load 9!!! It's all done, did 2 hrs of ironing last night Shock and will have about an hrs worth tonight.

Done:
2 loads washed & on line
3rd load in

To do:
S&s
Dust
Hoover
Clean & shine sink
Some weeding (in process of moving veg patch)

NeedToDeClutter · 02/04/2012 11:45

Hi all, I'm still with you all, just haven't had much time to post.
Was out for most of yesterday so don't have a "shiny sink" yet. I am showered and dressed though but not first thing in the morning.
Haven't had chance to click on the links yet so hoping I'm following the baby steps right. I have tried to do fly lady before but fell off the wagon. Some things do stick though like making the bed.

Will have a look now while I have a Brew

ThisIsNotWhatIWasAfter · 02/04/2012 14:03

Hello, hope you don't mind me coming to join you. I find this thread so motivating it's fab. I've managed to clean and tidy the cupboard under the sink and scrubbed the kitchen floor. Not sure how regular a poster i'll be but i'll definitely be lurking (and hopefully cleaning)

BitchyInTheCorner · 02/04/2012 14:49

Ta da list:

up
Buy milk for coffee
drop coffee
clean up and make another coffee
2 loads of washing
ring ex multiple times and not get through cbfa
arm ds with bubble mix.
Take a msg for another occupant of house - very funny as thought it was ex ringing back so didnt half confuse them BlushGrin
Wonder why clean boxers have to be worn inside out tbh still no idea but given up trying to understand kid logic
clean up small amount of mess from this morning's cereal accident - ds did a good job with most of it.
Find out where ds got the materials for his model boat that he is currently sailing in the bathroom sink

Suppose i should get something else done...

Makingchanges · 02/04/2012 14:51

Afternoon all.

Whoknows I did my driving licence online in the end. Apparently they take your photo from your passport (Which is horrendous) but I realised I need my driving licence for ID requirements for CRB whilst trying to register for supply. (I also couldn't face the post office with the photo machine thing as they use this for normal queries as well so you have to wait for that one cashier to be free and its a pain)

Ok managed all list from yesterday except the hotspot at end of Settee as had to lay down with a migraine and therefore lost an hour.

Today have been and registered with new supply agency as last one was rubbish. Also have taken back an item to a shop that I bought wrong almost a month ago - Just within timeframe and picked up a few bits of shopping.

To Do

  • 1 more washing load.
  • DD to swimming
  • DD to opening night of ballet performance
  • Another hour sorting under stairs / office area
  • End of settee hotspot
  • Either online shop or shopping list for main shop tomorrow
  • Attack both bathrooms

That will do - Not sure that will all be possible but we can try.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/04/2012 15:59

Ah, yes MC - I couldn't do the online thing because my passport is too old. Annoyingly, when that is due next year, they won't be able to use the photo they took for my driving licence as the system only works one way, so I will have to go and get yet another one done. My photocard came back very quickly via the PO, done on Weds, arrived on Sat, so at least that was good.

Not much Flying today so far, have had a nice day though, DD enjoyed visiting her friend and DS and I had a nice time shopping (I hit upon a good strategy, bought him a football magazine and just let him go and sit in a corner of Boots, M&S etc reading it while I browsed). The DCs have just been despatched to their GPs for the next 24 hours so I have no more excuses!

Glorious day here - my favourite weather - loads of sunshine but not hot!

Neglected to go power walking during day and feeling a bit peeved with myself now because was intending to go this evening but forgot that dh is out tonight ... bum ... will have make up for it tomorrow

Also, really need to clean/sort/dust bedroom drawers because there is a real log jam developing: can't put ironed clothes away until it is done, therefore laundry room getting conjested. Also getting stressed about urgent paperwork that needs to get down before I can go away ... dh stressed too ...

Evening update:

Rush around madly and organise dd's stuff for dance done
Empty washing machine and hang up cold blue wash done
Morning routine inc dw on, wm on, s&s done
three important e-mails done
one important phone call done
Put ironed clothes away
Seriously tackle boudoir
Home paperwork - urgent SOME (taking forever)
Quick supermarket shop done
Order/buy French book for dd's Easter reading
Food planning done
Exercise
More ironing
Drop off dry cleaning done
Dry and fold white wash
French study
Take down dd's art project that is half falling off wall and decide which bits to keep and which to junk done
Finish writing up yesterday's diet and fitness log ...done
Rubbish and recycling done
Start packing
Dining room table hot spot done
Cook pasta sauce for tomorrow with all the leftover veg done
Print list of local mass times and stick on kitchen cupboard (to avoid Sun morning hysteria) done
Write a list of house rules that will hopefully avoid the need for Mummy to become very shouty and hang up on fridge done
Wrap four presents
Sort out/clean make-up and wash make-up bag
Put away hot blue wash done
Afternoon/evening routine nearly done
Remove four layers of mud and polish dd jodhpur boots
Early bed!

Excuse long list which is contrary to all Flylady tenets - am going to re-print tomorrow and fill in the gaps - so it's twice as long as usual! Don't know why there is so much still to do as I was basically doing chores all day.

A warm welcome to Countryandkids and ThisisnotwhatIwasafter

Whoknows missions can be found middle, second row down of launch pad here!
Although if you need to look ahead, you can consult this page which is useful and contains this link under Kelly's missions!

Heavens Nicknacks you certainly have been through it in the last couple of months or so. Glad things are looking up now with your dh back to work and everyone fit and well and congratulations on your weight loss!! That's a real achievement with everything else you've had to contend with. I just started a new healthy eating and diet regime yesterday so am with you in spirit!

Feetheart brilliantly well done with disco - evidently a roaring success - no doubt a testament to your superlative organising skills!!

MadameMessy I'm going to try and get to bed early tonight although I am terrible at winding down ..

MummyNickleby congrats on your washing marathon and Envy at veg patch

Huge waves to Bitchy Needtodeclutter

Hope ballet performance goes well tonight MC and that your migraine has cleared. Hope new agency comes up with the good too!

Humungous wing flaps to everyone else - got to put dd to bed - then tackle more of that home office paperwork. G'night all!

thewaffler · 02/04/2012 19:45

sc that is a humongous list indeed, mine rather pales in comparison but I'm still on task. Didn't do home blessing as PIL over, but house still tidy and on top of laundry and ironing for a change. Also managed exercise DVD today, which always makes me feel better, will sim to do it again tomorrow, although this entails getting up super early before kids wake as no chance after, in turn this necessitates going to bed super early, which doesn't usually happen. Haven't done todays mission either, but may give front door a quick wipe after feeding ds then will feel virtuous and can go to bed happy (and early)

thewaffler · 02/04/2012 21:08

Front door clean? Not likely, in bed early? Check! now need to ensure sleep, not internet search

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/04/2012 21:57

Evening all,

Been on the Wine so excuse me if either the roundup or links (or both) are a bit confused tonight.

Went out for a lovely run earlier (and you won't often find me saying that, I usually find it more of a chore than a pleasure and have been distinctly slack lately) headed out of town to a neighbouring village and back via the edge of the woods, lovely views on a nice sunny evening. Still haven't achieved much Flying though.

NickNacks - no wonder you haven't had time to come on the thread, sounds like a rough old couple of months. Well done on the weight loss, I also need to lose 2 stone.

Honu - I'm sure your students won't have noticed the clutter

Jnice - good to have you back, hope you have shined your sink as planned

I've just noticed that SC has made a lovely job of rounding things up a couple of posts back, so I'm going to stop here and find some links for tomorrow. SC - impressive list!

Tuesday 3rd April

Todays Mission Hotspots Put out the hotspots in you porch, hall and dining room.

Todays Babystep Explore Flylady Big Tent Group. But whatever you do don't sign up for those emails! I would suggest exploring the Launchpad instead.

Tuseday's Focus Planning - diaries, menus etc

OP posts:
BlueEyeshadow · 02/04/2012 22:22

Thanks WhoKnows. No flying here today to speak of, although I did wipe a few smeary handprints off the front door. I've also taken DS1 swimming, patched another pair of his jeans and been to Zumba.

NickNacks - hope everybody is better now! Huge congrats on the weight loss!

SC - hope you got an early night. I seem to be getting worse at that, rather than better. Oh well.

Better get a move on as we're going to visit family for Easter tomorrow and still have a huge mountain of laundry to sort out.

Waves to all. Night!

sanguinechompa · 03/04/2012 08:44

Blue/the waffler. Me too! Hit the hay again ridiculously late ...it's definitely worse in the holidays as dd goes to bed later and so I stay up later to have a bit of "alone time" ....Also am imbibing dh's stress vicariously I think! (He finds it so hard to get away on holiday that it is almost more effort/more stressful than it is worth) and it's not as if he is inefficient or perfectionist or anything - there is simply huge amounts to plough through.

Flylady is so right when she interconnects household organisation > sleep > exercise etc etc. It all goes together ...anyway... am late again this morning ...only have myself to blame!

Waffler and Whoknows well done with making the effort to exercise! I need to follow your example.

Here's just the list for the domestic stuff (have another list for errands and another list for work (which dh keeps adding to Confused!). Had better crack on with it:

Ta da:
Groan done
Dash around madly and get dd off to dance and theatre workshop done

To do:
Morning routine inc dw on, wm on, s&s
Put ironed clothes away
Seriously tackle boudoir
Finish home paperwork - urgent
Order/buy French book for dd's Easter reading
Exercise
More ironing
Dry and fold white wash
French study
Start packing
Wrap four presents
Sort out/clean make-up and wash make-up bag
Green/brown wash
Afternoon/evening routine nearly done
Remove four layers of mud and polish dd jodhpur boots
Office Easter presents
Early bed! [cackles hysterically]

Have a good day everyone!

[More groans]

Had better move away from the screen now...

scattyspice · 03/04/2012 09:11

Morning all. Raining here, forcast for snow later Shock!

To do:
Post office
Electrical shop
Asda
Ironing
laundry
optician appt
start homework

BBL

PimpMyTunnel · 03/04/2012 09:16

Hi everyone! I finally got round to cleaning out the bedroom yesterday. It took me 3 hours but I no longer turn my nose up when I walk in there!! Finally plucked up the courage to clean whole of the bathroom. Took about an hour and I'm blinded when I look at the tiles Grin Today is kitchen day.. hate cleaning the kitchen but I've learnt to not hurry and do it at my own pace and I get it done without panicking!

BitchyInTheCorner · 03/04/2012 11:01

Another who was up stupid late.

again.

Must dash late. will drop a list or something later.

Welcome to Mumsnet and flying Stuffit jump right in.

Well main shop done this morning so thats one big job down. Had a sale on toys so I bought one and I've bribed DD to tidy her toys in return for a toy (Naughty I know but it gets a job done and keeps her occupied for a while)

I'm washed one load now to strip beds and wash bedding, clean bathrooms that didn't get done yesterday and spend 15 minute blocks of time on spare room, dds room and main bedroom, may have to have a couple of 15 minute blocks in each.

But first off to make a chilli for lunch as we are having main meals at lunch time this week due to ballet performance which we are off to again tonight.
