April Fledglings Fly into Spring, Get That Clutter into the Bin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/03/2012 22:47

Welcome to the April 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Come and join us for a bit of chat and a lot of housework (or possibly the other way round).

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us through March

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis. Feel free to browse the Flylady website as well, links below

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

 • repeat or start baby steps
 • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
 • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

He's 18mo so at an awkward age.

He knows he feels lousy, and he's self aware enough to know where hurts/isn't right, but he doesn't talk (barring the standard-ish words of juice/ball/dog etc) so he can't tell me what the problem is.

Therefore a lot of the upset is more frustration at my stupidity. And probably a bit of hunger as he's drinking but not eating. And teeth may also be involved judging by the epic levels of dribble.

Must away and try to get a washing on and try to make a shopping list as we desperately need food - so that'll be a fun trip out Hmm Sad

BitchyInTheCorner · 04/04/2012 08:42

Bloody hell i am up and feel like I can tackle the day without more coffee then blood in my blood stream.

Early night (well early for me) bed AND asleep before midnight!

90% of paperwork was done.
Just going to finish it off and head out to get stuff done.

Carpe is it worth him having a dose of painkiller (capol or whatever it is these days) so that you both can have a more comfortable day and basic tasks can be completed? Hope he feels better and you have a better day today?

MadameMessy · 04/04/2012 09:00

Morning :)
Dd 2 is 18 months too carpe and too was sick last week. Dd1 is sick this week...thanks karma Hmm
dd1 has used all the milk so no coffee for me yet Angry
Today I have to:
get up Blush and get dressed
s&s
Dw
wm
clear mantlepiece
print insurance form
get milk and pg test Shock
Get to the post office
maybe go to friends house with kids
nag gently remind Dp to study for his exams
Nesbit list from yesterday of:
Fluttering dd1s wardrobe
15mins in bedroom
meal planning

hope no one is as sleepy as me (stayed up til 130 watching tv shows I downloaded yesterday)

CarpeJugulum · 04/04/2012 09:50

MadameMessy Shock hope you get the result you're after.

Bitchy before midnight? You?

 • Chilli in the slow cooker - just got to add kidney beans a couple of hours before its needed so they don't cook to oblivion.
 • Shopping list is in progress.
 • WAH job is ready to go once DS decides to nap.
 • S&S downstairs ensuite and loo done
 • Washing on (1st of three loads)

I'm also going to try to wipe down the mats in the living room that DS plays on (the toxic interlinking foam variety! Blush as they're looking grubby - and that makes the living room look manky - which it isn't.

Really need to deep clean the carpets too - but will have to settle for hoovering. They're about 6 years old but are starting to look a bit past it. Think a clean might help - but it's definitely the last time I buy a wool short pile instead of hooped - really shows the wear (especially at the entry to the living room - and I can't put a rug there as I can in the hall due to the door opening into the room.

Anyway, off to get more milk for DS. Probably over his recommended daily calcium limit but he's ill and that's all he will drink so m'eh.

ToffeeWhirl · 04/04/2012 09:50

So sorry for you fledglings that haven't slept because of sickly DC. Calpol and minimal Flying duties for you today, I would say. I just accept that the day has to be written off if I really haven't slept a lot.

DS2 is reading over my shoulder . He says hurry up and get off MN because he wants me find his rubber and help him make a Moshi Monsters comic.

OK, I give up!

NickNacks · 04/04/2012 09:50

carpe I feel for you. Dd is 19 months and ill a lot (ear infections) and it's hell on earth keeping them pain free and happy enough for you to get even the most basic chores done.

Call my mother
Detail clean of hall and dining room
Thin out coats

Not much but am minding today so will only have baby's nap times to fly!

CarpeJugulum · 04/04/2012 09:51

Oh and have a few )))))'s

I seem to have omitted them in my post Blush

elliepac · 04/04/2012 09:55

Oh fucking hell. Can't even start the month off well anymoreGrinGrin. I have no excuse, i'm just crap. The weather is foul here, force 10 gale and trying to snow. Tis my birthday today and i am now officially closer to 40 than 30. Was hoping i would wake up and the old person gardening gene would kick in as previously discussedGrin. Managed to escape for another year I think. What I would really like to do today is lounge around in my pj's doing sod all. However, being as i am setting off at 11 tonight on a school trip
to the battlefields in France and Belgium I am mainly going to run around like a headless chickenGrin. I am literally going to feel a year older when I wake up tomorrow morning after spending the night on a coach with 40 teenagersGrin.

Better go and get dressed. Still got to change money!

elliepac · 04/04/2012 09:57

Am I in some kind of parallel universe. Just
seen that not only did bitchy go to bed before midnight but she also is up without coffee overload.Grin Wtf is going on!

sanguinechompa · 04/04/2012 09:57

SCwanders in - also bearing a cup of Bitchy's industrial strength coffee -thank you - definitely hits the spot!

Well done with paperwork Bitchy! That's impressive going! (I'm at 50% mark.) And glad to hear you are feeling less sleep-deprived this morning ...

[Hands a cyber-cupful of espresso to MadameMessy in place of real thing]

Sympathies to MadameMessy and CarpeJugulum and all those with ailing dc ...

Carpe sorry you are having such a rough time. Can you do an emergency on-line order from supermarket? Do you have any support around so you can take an hour's break? It's horrible when dc are ill. (Try not too worry too much about him being hungry - easier said than done I know - it's hydration that's the important thing) Hope he feels better very soon.

Messy Poor you, sod's law with successive illnesses. Here's wishing your dd1 a speedy recovery. Ditto re "clearing mantelpiece's" on your list. Have very tall, thin, house with few surfaces to put things on, with the result that every single sodding mantelpiece in our house (except main one in sitting) seems to be covered in clutter. Must get to grips with it.

Definitely like the concept of a 'Nesbit' list Grin

Hope mixing of vomit and glitter was avoided Grin Grin

Thanks for round-up and links Whoknows [SC muses on whether she will ever reach the dizzy heights of the detailed cleaning list]

Crikey Toffee you were busy yesterday - you did loads!! Brilliant news about your ds1. There's nothing more persuasive than peer pressure sometimes ...Real feel for him with the shaky-knee thing though ...that must be so tough on him.

Jniece everyone deserves a pyjama day at some point - particularly one as productive as yours!

Nicknacks Congrats on your 2lb!! Brilliant going!! And boo sucks to client who turned you down - tis their loss!!

Flaps wings at everyone else!

DH has gone to office this morning Confused when he is meant to be on holiday - he was only popping in for 5 mins - but has obviously got embroiled.

I'm behind with packing etc so must take advantage of time available and crack on! I won't embarrass myself by printing yesterday's incomplete list here again ...

Have a great day everyone!

sanguinechompa · 04/04/2012 10:02

x post!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ELLIE!!!!

(Was going to add - hope you have a lovely day - but in circs will settle for - hope the 40 teenagers behave for you Grin Grin) and welcome to this side of the channel!!)

sanguinechompa · 04/04/2012 10:03

[Leaves out pair of brand new Felco secateurs tied with pink ribbon]

sanguinechompa · 04/04/2012 10:04

[And glass of bucks fizz]

Makingchanges · 04/04/2012 10:25

Happy birthday Ellie - Hope the teenagers behave on your trip.

Great news about your DS Toffee

Waves to everyone else - Memory has gone blank already as to what has happened.

Was having a PJ day today as woke us to snow and grotty weather but neighbourhood kids have just descended. Have printed out some easter colouring and activity sheets in the hope that they will leave me alone to potter.

Today I must attack paperwork - DH never opens his letters and I've piled them up for him. He's opened them now and found an unexpected cheque in one. I'm amazed he ever found it.

Today as well as paperwork i'm going to run the hoover downstairs as DD did such a great job of tidying in lounge yesterday I should be able to find the carpet today. I'm also going to do some job applications, take DD to karate and ballet show and another hour in spare room

That will do for today. Hope you all have a happy and productive day

elliepac · 04/04/2012 10:29

Wtf are secateurs?Grin.

NickNacks · 04/04/2012 10:40

Happy birthday Ellie!

Remember to pack the paracetamol!!

Jnice · 04/04/2012 10:41

Sorry if I have missed anything, hard to keep up! On second BF of night, hopefully last (yeah, right!).

I'm in Vancouver, west coast Canada whoknows - 8 hrs behind you.

In morning I must get to fit 4 two exercise class by 10am, so all flying has to work around that!

feetheart · 04/04/2012 11:13

:o Happy Birthday ellie :o
Hope you have a lovely day inspite of 40 teenagers looming this evening.

Toffee - well done to your DS, that is a big step. And you got him out to the park a few days ago didn't you? I really hope it is the beginning of an upward turn for you all.

Hello, to the newbies/returners. Some of us have been here forever a long time and seem better at chatting than Flying. Then again maybe that is only me :o

Doing some work at the moment (sort of!) as we are waiting in for charity furniture people to pick up a dressing table and DC are entertaining themselves though I have a feeling that Playmobil/Polly Pocket World may be taking over various parts of the house Hmm
Have done contract invoices, bank rec to do now. Feeling the need for biscuits/chocolate first.

CarpeJugulum · 04/04/2012 12:04

Update:

Have docs appt for DS as he's now developed a rash - duty doc thinks it's a post viral thing, but given the Easter weekend, she's seeing him today just to rule out anything nasty.

Online shopping ordered for delivery tomorrow. Arm+leg delivery charge, but worth it. May only need a bit of milk for DS, but I have formula (he needs the extra vitamins) so he can have that instead.

WAH job is done, and I'm now sitting on the couch with my feet up and praying DS sleeps for a bit longer as I have Brew and America's Next Top Model on the Sky+ Blush

Happy birthday to ellie - hope the teenagers are gentle! (but based on my trips with school - I doubt it!)

BitchyInTheCorner · 04/04/2012 12:35

Oh bloody hell no! I did not sort the massive paperwork mountain of doom. Shock The paperwork that was sorted was just the stuff I needed for my meeting this morning.

So Ta da list goes like this:
Up dress and functioning (yes brain and everything) before 9am
Finish off paperwork for meeting
Rescue bin from half way down the road
Discover that 25% of the roads in the area are closed and I can't as it stands get to the town i need to tomo
Meeting in next time
Pick up catch thingy from market for a project
Build ikea hanging rail (to replace broken one)
Build new book case for landing forgot needed to declutter landing to put it there though Blush
Ring doctors to confirm appointment time
Deal with people

Put ds' duvet in dryer.
Check bank balance Although tbf it was about what i expected.
Discover intollerance is keying up to full blown allergy and hunt out antihist tablets.

Left To do:
Doc appointment
wash ds' pillow/bedding
wipe down ds' bed
Pick up some fabric for 2 projects which have deadlines that are looming forgot measurements so will do tomo instead
take ds' bin out
dis-infect ds' bin
start to tackle ds' room
sort through box of books from office.
Declutter landing
Paperwork as a result of this morning's meeting.

But most importantly today

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLIE!!!

|/
/ \ party hat anyone?

ToffeeWhirl · 04/04/2012 13:04

Hmm, nearer 40 than 30 - doesn't sound so bad to me, Ellie (speaking as someone who is on the other side of 40 now). Hope you have a very happy birthday and good luck on the school trip.

Bitchy - I like the party hat Smile.

Carpe - good idea to get the rash checked out. Well done on the online order. Hope your little one sleeps long enough to give you a break.

Oh lord, was going to do lots of personals, but have just noticed the time...

Thanks for all the lovely messages about DS. He is hiding in his room today, nursing a cold - I think he's in shock about what he did yesterday!

Got to go as I'm giving blood this afternoon. That'll be a good chance to sit down and read in peace and quiet for a bit (not to mention stuffing myself having a couple of biscuits Wink).

Oh bugger - does that mean I can't enjoy a glass of wine this evening? I'll have to check Hmm.

scattyspice · 04/04/2012 14:00

Hi all.

We did have snow showers yesterday and howling winds! Spent the afternoon struggling with a seriously complicated lego kit and a seriously fiddly craft kit! then DDs new DVD player broke Angry.

Doing better today. Been to town with Dc and exchanged DVD player then went to art gallery (Ds is becoming quite arty Smile). Ds and DH have gone to climbing wall and dd and i are going to tackle house bleugh!!

toffee well done ds yesterday and what lovely friends he has Smile.
ellie hope your bus trip is going well (hats off to you, brave woman!)
Hope poorly Dc are on the mend.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/04/2012 16:03

Happy Birthday Ellie enjoy your coach trip!

Just back from work and picking the DCs up from sports activity day, settled them in front of the telly for a bit so I can catch up with -MN-- Flying. House has seriously deteriorated this week.

Carpe - good idea re the Doctor, we quite often seem to develop something on a Friday that if it was earlier in the week I would leave but don't dare leave over a weekend, esp. a long one like Easter. I went a few months ago with a fairly innocuous looking inflamed eyelid and was told I needed antibiotics NOW and if it got any worse over the weekend to go straight to A&E. Which I wasn't expecting. Best to be on the safe side.

Morning to Jnice. We have another long term Flyer on this thread who lives in Canada, but she hasn't been around much for the last few months, don't think she's as far West as you though.
