April Fledglings Fly into Spring, Get That Clutter into the Bin

Welcome to the April 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Come and join us for a bit of chat and a lot of housework (or possibly the other way round).

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us through March

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis. Feel free to browse the Flylady website as well, links below

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

[snaffles remains of toast with a bit of maple syrup]

Lots of domestic goddessy stuff on this thread today (bread-making, chicken-roasting, fire lighting)

Whoknows Gosh - the month went fast didn't it? I'm afraid that May is a bit problematic for me as there seems to be a holiday virtually every week over here and we are going to be dashing about a bit. Definitely up for running thread in June though if not stepping on anyone else's toes ...

Humungous thanks for keeping us on the straight and narrow throughout April (not easy when you are so busy) and hugely appreciated.

Well done to your dcs for Flying high today. I must start cracking the whip a bit harder too.

Bitchy arf at alternative training methods wheelie-bin chasing

Toffee congrats on your weight loss!! That's very good going in one week!! [takes notes]

Swan ditto here re: local library but despite wide range of books available on every subject known to man, dd determinedly mining a narrow but apparently endless seam of horse and pony books ...

Trying hope you got your well-deserved 30 mins of repose ...

TheWaffler hope you had a better day today - a new life in the world is such a huge earthquakey event in terms of emotions isn't it? And why does everything always go wrong on the same day? You've definitely used up your "catalogue of disasters quotient" for a while!!!

Flaps wings at everyone else.

Had a lovely day with friends, ate and drank rather a lot of delicious food and wine and stayed rather late (so travel postponed until the morning). DD only at school for a day and a half this week because Friday is a holiday too.

I really must get to bed but when I have been out late, I have a terrible habit of settling down to the evening at home that I didn't have ifyswim Confused

Determined to follow bed-time baby step more assiduously during May!

Anyway, hope to be off early tomorrow so waving goodbye for now ...

Have a good May bank holiday everyone!! And thanks again Whoknows for cracking the whip during April!!

sanguinechompa · 30/04/2012 00:01

xpost proffers calming snifter and bunch of lilac for Swan

thewaffler · 30/04/2012 06:47

I spent some considerable time last night writing and loosing posts. Decided to copy last one in case I lost it again and then couldn't paste as was told website was offline - so here it is this morning instead......

Just lost long, one fingered written post Angry on phone, aggghhh

Gist = well done toffee on weight loss, swan I hope you were able to utilise monopoly time, trying I too am really going to try hard to fly this week - and make less mistakes. Thanks whoknows for keeping us on straight and narrow in April.

Rather irritatingly dh did not get too drunk, was hoping to be superior and crow this morning, i know if I'd been let loose, making a tit of oneself would have been guaranteed

Ds nearly finished feed so its off to bed for me

Waves night to all

Tryingtogetairbourne · 30/04/2012 08:00

Its 6.47 thewaffler...did you have a really bad night? How old is ds? (you probably said before!)

Morning all!!

Right sunny here, running late, already...and I feel sick...no sickness bug round here that I know, maybe porridge isn't for me this morning

Done
Washed first load of bedding (okay sleeping bag again but its easy to start with)
emptied sink of soaking stuff
filled sink with hot soapy water
emptied dw
put load of clothes that need refluffing in tumble drier (will set off just before I go on sch run so ready to fold when I get back)

I've done more than I thought :)

To do
Fold x 2 loads
fold and tidy laundry left in dd2 bedroom
feed zoo
1 x pack lunch
1 x snack
2 x bottles of water
1 x dog toilets (did I mention 3 x dog wees to clear up yesterday...they take one look at the rain and its death time for the carpet again)
brush teeth
put on socks
find dd2 socks

15 min before set off time (allowing 30 min to put on shoes and get out of door into car and drive 4 min to destination Hmm easy)

I love food me...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/04/2012 09:03

I would love to help myself to some of that lot Trying but I'm having a fasting blood test this morning and am only allowed water Sad.

It's sunny! Just got back from school, 10 mins to empty DW etc then off out to the Dr for the test, then stuff down some food and go to pilates. Hair appointment after lunch, oh and got to fit in home blessing.

May is going to be tricky for me too, as we'll have visiting family combined with doing a blogathon which will be taking up all my spare computer time.

Thanks for looking after us this month though, WhoKnows

Um, flying, well, the washing is out on the washing line!! :)
Hmm, the Fat Fairy seems confused too as the sneak peek is showing last week's missions. Oh well. Will do something later...

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 10:22

If no one else offers, I could do the next thread, WhoKnows. It might help me get back into the Flying habit again.

Ta da:

Swished and swiped
Washing on
B/Fast and before-school routine
Managed to get reluctant DS2 to school
Cleared and wiped dining-room table
Put rubbish out
B/F for DS1
Cajoled DS1 into dressing before tutor arrives
Unloaded d/washer

Just off to hang the washing out. What a gorgeous, sunny day - such a relief after the weekend.

BitchyInTheCorner · 30/04/2012 10:53

Morning...

feel like death. have ds off school. Such a great start to the week Hmm

Bloody sun has come out today too so today's list looks like this:
buy stamps
dig up garden
make pizza for tea.

what I want it to say is pull covers over head, dose up on migraine meds and sleep. Nothing really wrong except absolutely knackered. And have no migraine meds as ran out. so i'd better put submit prescription request on my list.

Before i do anything i am going to reheat my coffee and finish drinking it.

Whatever has been going on with mn recently needs fixing. It has been broken sooo much. bloody annoying for everyone.

Tryingtogetairbourne · 30/04/2012 11:10

Bitchy hope you feel better later, get your meds ordered!
Toffee that's good of you. I would making excuses but going on long wkend away mid month...that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it, but if you need back up when your busy I'll do it for you?

:) was meant to be :(!

feetheart · 30/04/2012 11:23

I'll happily help eat that lot trying - went for a very soggy run this morning and body wants fuel. It wasn't even a very long run!

Quietish w/e thankfully as everyone was tired.
Got the ball rolling with GP and opticians to get DS's migraines/headaches investigated. Have discovered that his eyes don't switch from near-sight to far-sight very well so have a referral to the hospital and exercises to do (now have lollysticks all over the house!) and feel that at last we may be getting somewhere.
Still want to get other things investigated as although that may well be the reason for the ongoing headaches (which often come on in the afternoon at school) I'm not convinced it is the source of the migraines. Back to GP with DS in tow on Friday to get that going.

Toffee - sorry DS is struggling with the idea of the holiday at the moment. He has done really well recently, shame you couldn't take the borrowed dog with you :)

Need to be organised this week (yeah, right Hmm) House is slipping a bit, from a very low baseline, and needs to be brought back under control and I have other things I want to do - make DD a pillowcase, sort out some photos for DS. The jobs that always seem to get put off even though I promised I would do them Blush
So, today's list:

  • Run - first in over a week fair-weather runner and very soggy underfoot - done
  • All up and out - done
  • Work - done
  • Costco to renew membership, get washing powder and try to resist numerous 'bargains'
  • School for introduction meeting re 'Fun with Food' course. A family learning thing to do with DS
  • Homework
  • Dinner - Toad in the hole - mmmmmm :)
  • Rest of ironing

Hmmmm, not much Flying on that list, at least window cleaner is here.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/04/2012 11:27

Oh, Justgetting, that sounds terrible . Not surprised you haven't been here, what a nightmare. I would forget about Flying for now and look after yourself and your family, maybe get one room sorted and take it from there. Sorry, stating the obvious really, not sure what to say but do stay on the thread, we are all good at lending a sympathetic ear and providing Brew and Biscuits.

Toffee - would you mind? It's not long since you did it. There are a lot less posters now anyway, so it isn't too hard to keep up. Thank you. I'm quite happy to so another month later in the year.

OP posts:
feetheart · 30/04/2012 11:32

Justgetting - what a horrible time. HUGE, HUGE sympathies. Moving is stressful enough when you have planned it but to do it under those circumstances doesn't bear thinking about. I hope the legal situation sorts itself out quickly and in your favour.
Keep posting, at least we can provide Wine, Brew, Biscuits, Thanks, Bear and sympathy.

Jamillalliamilli · 30/04/2012 11:37

WhoKnows thanks, don't worry about what to say, we've all been pretty speechless too. (apart from some unrepeatable words from me)
Am getting myself ready to go over there and try and work out a starting point.

Jamillalliamilli · 30/04/2012 11:38

Feethheart thanks, will take that lot over with me. :-)

Jamillalliamilli · 30/04/2012 11:39

Feethheart? Feetheart!

Tryingtogetairbourne · 30/04/2012 11:57

Whoknows Toffee, if you've recently done it, its only fair someone else has a turn, unless you really want to do it, don't want to tread on toes...I'll do it and not get sucked into surfing if you want? Just need 4 day cover mid month? and it will not be much work for me as I don't have to comment on my own nuemerous, or so it feels posts :)

Justgetting you poor things...okay, how about one box 'give away' one box 'put away' one box 'recycle'...fill for 15min then go clean sink and kitchen 15 min (surfaces). Or is there alot of cleaning to do? Can you afford cleaners to come in? Are the rooms free to move things back into now or do they need redecorating?

Sorry to hear you've been ill, no wonder, and ds's coursework :( must be somewhere...must have been awful to be so out of control of your own belongings :(

Must get back to blessing, done hoovering (20 min [shock) sweep and mop floors then stop for lunch and pick up dd2...

I wish....

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/04/2012 12:05

I'm eating again now, but still dieting, fruit for me. I think we could fit a big brown teapot in the naughty corner next the the espresso machine

OP posts:
BitchyInTheCorner · 30/04/2012 12:15

JustGetting don't worry about the flying don't worry about disapearing to sort out rl. We all do it from time to time and you will always be welcome to come back when you feel you are able. Good luck with the legal situation, and getting things sorted. Small lists, small expectations and such that it is completely achieveable and then getting anything extra is a bonus.

I can't volunteer for May simply because when i lead i suck at the flying thing and i HAVE to get in control of this house before it all completely falls apart even more then it has. why does the in progress always look so bad? and why does everything go wrong when you think you are making progress

I have a tidiness deadline. By this wkend the house needs to be guest tidy and the garden done/significantly progressed painkillers have kicked in. Ds is going to go work in the back garden for me whilst I work out the front. He is starting to look a lot less pasty thank goodness. Last week really was too much for such a little person. Thank goodness life is significantly calmer for him now.

BitchyInTheCorner · 30/04/2012 12:19

Grin at the clutter in the naughty corner. I was actually thinking of clearing it out nad starting a fresh next month. What theme were we going to go with for May?

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 14:51

"WhoKnows* - Am happy to do the next thread, don't worry. I'll pop back later and set it up (just off to do school run now).

JustGetting - so sorry to hear you have had such an unbelievably awful time Sad.

And sorry you have another migraine, Bitchy.

Feet - I like the idea about taking the dog! We couldn't walk her today and DS1 was really sad about it.

BitchyInTheCorner · 30/04/2012 16:17

Ta da list:
2 hours digging in garden
ds' bedding washed
ds' bed remade
soak in bath for back
ingrediants in bread maker for pizza for tea
fall out with ds over various issues
ds to get his homework done.
clothes folded
update ds' calendar for May
update my calendar for May
read a couple of chapters of my book.

Not bad considering my mood this moring.

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 17:34

New thread here.
