April Fledglings Fly into Spring, Get That Clutter into the Bin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/03/2012 22:47

Welcome to the April 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Come and join us for a bit of chat and a lot of housework (or possibly the other way round).

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us through March

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis. Feel free to browse the Flylady website as well, links below

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Bitchy was it only 45 min to do the subsiding garden? How do you get a subsiding garden?

BitchyInTheCorner · 24/04/2012 16:03

Actually the fly lady says do three lots of fast pace intensive 15mins and then spend 15mins having a cuppa.

However, only managed about 30mins dealing with garden issues. Back is killing me, but didn't actually take pain killers earlier just thought about it

I need a to do list crazy afternoon evening here:

feed ds tea
ds to trainging
Meeting 1
meeting 2
ds home
ds in bath and bed without killing
more moisturiser on poor hands
early night

And probably other stuff that my tired brain won't process atm.

ToffeeWhirl · 24/04/2012 18:43

Am also on CoCodamol, Bitchy. It's the only thing that will get rid of the headache I have had for the last two days (ie. from when I started my first ever diet). I think it must be withdrawal from sugar. Was I ever the queen of lists? I have well and truly fallen off my pedestal then Sad. Hope your back improves soon.

Trying - we love our multifuel stove. Miserable, dark, rainy day yesterday, so DC decided they wanted me to light the fire and soon we had a cheerful, roaring log fire to sit round Smile. I well remember the days of DC's naps and that panicky feeling of how best to make the most of that small window of opportunity, by the way. I hope you enjoyed your time.

Blue - sorry you're feeling rotten. Hope your friend let you sleep this afternoon.

Feet - that's fabulous that your DD is so much happier with a smaller, quieter group. I hope things improve for the class now.

MsUrsa - welcome back! Where do you get the 'crisis clean' podcast from? Can I simply download it from the website? I like having instructions too and it might get me off my backside .

'Ta da' list:

Maths with DS1
English with DS1
Replaced batteries in toy train for DS2
Built railtrack for DS2
Put washing on
Found DS1's lost jeans in crumpled heap on sitting-room floor Hmm
Tried to teach DS1 how to make a bacon sarnie (unwilling pupil)
Lunch
Put wet clothes in tumbledrier and on radiators
Walked the wonderful dog - DS1 ran along all sorts of unfamiliar roads with the dog, looking so happy and relaxed. He had flushed cheeks by the end of the walk - I haven't seen him with pink cheeks for months Smile.
Washing up
Put dry washing away
Tidied kitchen
Quick nap Blush
Dinner

DS2 is definitely going back to school tomorrow. His 'cold' miraculously disappeared soon after I'd rung the school. He is now leaping around the sitting room, laughing manically at the film of 'Horrid Henry'. Never mind, it has bought me over an hour of peace.

Wine anyone?

MoreCatsThanKids · 24/04/2012 18:54

Oo some biccies left -thanks trying

Panic again this morning due to oversleeping :( Visitor due 11am so no time for proper clean of kitchen - had to prioritise lady more likely to want use bathroom than go right in to kitchen and inspect (non shiny) sink - so just swished what can be seen as passing thro' Blush Bathroom also needed more than swish due to DD having shower and DH making a mess of sink wetshaving.
Was still hoovering upstairs in undies when visitor arrived :o DD had to let her in!
DD has been given a 'symbol' cane for now (so people can tell she has a sight issue and get out of her way make allowances) and she has to have training to use 'proper' cane We have to learn to go shopping Grin

CarpeJugulum · 24/04/2012 20:21

Ooooooffff!

Got my list done, and DS is looking better so he may sleep tonight. Not that it's my issue as DH has volunteered as I'm clutching my hot water bottle to bloated stomach and achy back and swigging paracetamol like it's going out of fashion. I may have to resort to Tramadol if it gets worse.

And DS bit me and kicked me in the head within the space of 10 minutes (accidentally I hasten to add!) so I'm feeling a bit picked on Sad

Tomorrow is... actually I don't care about tomorrow. I'm off to bed to watch Hairy Bakers and drool... I so would with Si Blush

MummyNickleby · 24/04/2012 21:07

Blooming heck! How many posts?!!
whoknows yep, got it all done last night Grin
But there's more washing that's almost dry.. So ironing again tomorrow Sad

Just in from the gym. Tues & Thurs I do not fly, I do a 10 hour day in the office and a gum class so I'm entitled to be a slob to put my feet up Wink

Good luck with the builders... We will be doing an extension at the end of the year, not looking forward to it Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/04/2012 21:58

Evening all,

Bit of a manic evening here with all the after school activities, luckily other people took DS to and from Cubs, but it is a late night for him, back at 8.30 and all revved up not ready to go to bed, he appeared about 10 mins ago on some pretext but really wanting to check the football results.

I have been reading the thread all day, but my brain is too mushy to manage much in the way of a roundup, I'm taking myself off to the naughtey corner once I've done the links I hope all those with aches and pains feel better in the morning.

Just want to say to Trying - we love our multifuel stove too, one of the best things we have done to this house, in fact I'd really like another one in the lounge (ours is in the middle room of our Victorian terrace and we don't sit here much since the DCs came along, we used it as a lounge in winter pre-DCs but now it is a computer /play room with no room for armchairs).

BitchyInTheCorner · 24/04/2012 22:01

I got my list for the afternoon done. ds is not in bed and annoying me he is soooo not going to get up tomo. And i am not getting my early night.

thewaffler · 24/04/2012 22:02

Evening all, I have 4 days worth of posts to catch up on. Can't face it on the phone, so will attempt to get laptop out tomorrow.

House still in order, boobs still hurting, dd still moany. Missions haven't been recommenced since started again in April, nor has menu planning, will try to get on board for those next week.

Limited flying tomorrow as out of house, sister was due to have baby last Thursday and has cabin fever so going to cheer her up.

Looking forward to reading what you've all been up to

done
bricks bought - I had to force builder to come to brick merchants with me to select bricks, and he still argued incessantly about what colour would work - I myself like a bit of orange with pink!Hmm - first Step nearly in; Hurrah!

Afternoon pretty hellish as sons needed taking to park, but as usual I only realised this at 6pm when they were arguing through lack of exercise and I was trying to serve supper Blush Cue husband in a bait at screaming children, couldn't get his haddock out of pan without destroying it, and flouncing off to park after eldest.
It is always like this when the builder is here [sigh]

done
ds1 in good mood till 6pm!
dd to piano
dd friend round to see kittens till 4.30
returned library books, and renewed some
food shopped
cooked fish and potatoes
recycling (Dh did it)
three loads of washing

Feet glad dd is loving small group work
Toffee my children don't last long working together at kitchen table. Today we had Maths with a dogfood question, if one dog eats 450 g and a packet weighs 2.5kg how many packets do you need to take on a 3 week camping trip. This reduces Dd to tears. Reminiscent of Dame Slap's questions in Faraway tree, she just kept muttering, I don't get it I don't get it. I haven't looked at ds1's Maths for a looong time, I suppose I should Blush

Trying the dog is coming tomorrow, I feel I should cancel as he isn't allowed in the garden (too near the blessed Step which is "setting")...but I know it is wimpish of me, so it is encouraging to hear of your resident dogs and take it in my stride.
Whoknows hope everyone settles. I have given up a lot of activities, but suddenly realising dcs (mainly ds2) are in need of exercise! Help, impossible to get the balance right...May have to book them back into the dreaded swimming lessons again. Funny how even ds1's piano lesson was a way of getting him to run a mile.

Rain, rain, more rain

OP posts:
feetheart · 25/04/2012 09:27

Squelched to school and back and now Chris Evans is playing Supertramp "Its Raining Again". Sums it up really!

Really need to get on with work today so will be back later when I've done some. See, I can do anti-procrastination sometimes :)

swanthingafteranother · 25/04/2012 09:47

Done
dropped ds1 at school (raining very hard) by car, route now seems very familiar Smile not the scary roller coaster journey it once did...
caught in traffic jam so late returning, phone out of credit, dog has beenand gone Confused but owner has texted to say he's now coming back again to drop him off

have resettled kittens with all their gear in the loft bedroom whilst dog is here
hidden all cat food (dog has tendency to gobble it all up like a hoover)

so! A long rainy day in park ahead methinks, but I must conserve my strength so as to get through Beavers later...

BitchyInTheCorner · 25/04/2012 11:17

morning. So glad it is raining. Otherwise would feel obliged to get out into the garden and fix that chaos. My back hates me and I have a migraine.

Kept ds off school this morning as he hasn't been sleeping well recently and has been teary so thought a quiet morning would benefit him. He is looking better already.

I should be doing paperwork but i think i might take some strong painkillers and then do some crafting. Will help to get the lounge tidy

All i really want to do is to crawl back into bed and sleep.

GossipWitch · 25/04/2012 12:07

OMG !! its just taken me 2 hours to clean my living room, 2 hours !!! however there is not a toy in sight, everything is polished, there is nothing out of place at all and my coffee table is bare, except for the laptop my coffee and the decorative candle holder that lives on it, I also have a gameboy and a ds under it but that is all. No books tatty mags knitting projects or anything, but I do have a built in cupboard that now is full to the brim of things I use occasionally but it has a door which still shuts...... just. I'll be tackling the hall way in a mo, after I've finished my coffee, and admired my lovely lounge a bit more.

feetheart · 25/04/2012 13:01

I have worked :o

I have also cooked half-price chicken (our Co-op has rubbish stock control) and leftover potato wedges. Will eat wedges for lunch with dip and makes BIG yorkshires and veg to go with chicken for dinner - sorted :)

Its still raining though.

BitchyInTheCorner · 25/04/2012 13:27

Sun, rain and wind here. Giving into migraine and going to try to grab another hours kip before the school run. Flying? what flying? Not today there won't be.

swanthingafteranother · 25/04/2012 13:29

Feetheart you have worked, I have walked...
In thunder lightning and hail Hmm Very nice too Grin

Dog and I are sopping wet.

done
another wash on
exercise

todo
stew
lentil soup
phone bank
top up phone
hang out washing
tidy dd's room, she asked me too Shock as she said it was so bad she couldn't work out how to make it look tidy
ditto ds room
leave dog for quiet time downstairs - he is chewing a dinosaur atm

Bitchy like you I am finding it almost a relief not to be able to go into the garden (torrential rain/sea of mud) as there is so much to do there. New fence next week too which means taking all ivy down, and moving the woodshed first. I absolutely dread discussing it with posh neighbours, I just hope they don't expect the old fence to go OUT our side, as there is literally no way through alley, except on tiptoe. (They want new fence, and have so far organised it, we are paying half)

CarpeJugulum · 25/04/2012 17:22

Right. Did I post this morning?! I know I meant to do so, but I don't actually think I did.

I'm cracking down on DS. Thread here.

It's not going well. I anticipate a crap night. Maybe this particular week of the month wasn't the best time to start, but I can't keep cooking 3 meals each night (1 for DS, then another plus 1 for us!)

ToffeeWhirl · 25/04/2012 21:49

Where is everyone this evening Confused?

BlueEyeshadow · 25/04/2012 22:12

Still not feeling great myself, and DS1's general under-the-weatherness seems to have resolved into a tummy bug which means he can't go to school again tomorrow. Not going to be fun for anyone as he's all upset about missing athletics, and DS2 is going to miss out on various things he wanted to do tomorrow as a result too... :(

No flying.

Still haven't managed to look at missed posts from the weekend, if I ever get a spare half an hour will review!

Have changed ds wardrobe yesterday from 3-6 to 6-9 months, this is a major undertaking, i haven't got drawers, or a wardrobe, rather baskets on shelves, so old clothes have to come out and new in - old clothes a mixture of clothes i have been given from 3 different friends, so need sorting and putting into different piles and new stuff has to be arranged.

Managed to get some of old outfits on ebay - how come it takes so long, faffing about all afternoon getting 7 items on, and will probably get bugger all for it, will make me feel better for getting some return though. I have a bag full of my old clothes which had intended to sell which has been in my wardrobe for over 2 years, i know that i ought to take to charity shop, but maybe as i am on a roll, may encourage me to get arse in gear and do something about it.

bitchy and swan I too ought to be in the garden - i finally got plants in bed, but have only been managing a row of seeds ever so often, have still got the rest to do

Will be back tomorrow again with more - hoping i will be able to report on news of a new niece, my sister having her first dc, is 5 days overdue and started having contractions this morning at 4, she told me she was rather hoping she'd be back home this evening in time for the Apprentice Grin i haven't heard anything since 4pm this evening at which point she was still at home, but had phoned hospital.

Night all, will try to get up early to do exercises so need to get some shut eye asap
