April Fledglings Fly into Spring, Get That Clutter into the Bin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/03/2012 22:47

Welcome to the April 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Come and join us for a bit of chat and a lot of housework (or possibly the other way round).

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us through March

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis. Feel free to browse the Flylady website as well, links below

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Currently sitting in the car, in the rain with a snoring DS2, my phone & a book. He fell asleep on the way home & needs the rest so I'm making the most of it!

Have also done Aldi shop & put it away, laundry, lunch in friend's cafe & loads of floor sweeping...

DS1 is supposed to be trying out athletics club after school but no idea if he'll actually stay - decidedly wobbly about it this morning. Confused

Big waves to all. Chuck us a cushion, will you trying? ta!

sanguinechompa · 19/04/2012 13:42

Hello hello. Hope everyone is OK. Sorry - seem to be replying to comments way down thread atm - while thread has moved on massively in mean time - can't keep up!!

Just about to start sodding Pegasus wings on the grounds that its one of those projects that will consume all the time one has available...so got the important stuff out of the way this morning ...and I'm at a school meeting tonight ... have dd tennis run/supper in between ...so have one and a half hours and no longer to complete [cackles hysterically]

Trying thank you very much for bamboo/sheet/strong drink suggestion Grin - may well take you up on that one!!! For the moment have found an abandoned pair of pink fairy wings in a bag that I'd "decluttered for charity" some months back (having thankfully ignored all Flylady tenets and failed to get rid of it immediately Grin) and am going to try and adapt them ....not feeling v. confident ...Confused but worth a go ....

To add insult to injury, dd brought home a set of instructions for another "home project" yesterday ... something made from two swivelling metal bits, a bag of rice, a small sock or small bag, some cord and two wooden curtain rings. This is apparently the apparatus required for her end of year 'spectacle' but there is no word from the teacher as to when they need it (in terms of rehearsing) how to make it, in what colours it should be made ....or indeed how large or small it should be ... Confused and just looking at it again now [sigh] the picture of the finished item includes things (such as ribbon) not mentioned in the 'buying' list ... [double sigh]

Swan and others- yes - usually interpet 'cacciatore' to mean anything roughly hunter/peasant/rural Italian ie chuck any available veg in to pan with chick as long as toms, mushrooms and olives included..plus a bit of rosemary from garden ....everyone ate it (including unexpected/extremely thin/well-travelled priest visitor [why do they always turn up at meal times??? ]) so hopefully it was OK but I can never taste anything I've cooked - don't know why not!! Hope med-tweaking will make a positive difference to your energy levels.

Applies hesitant boot to Whoknow's rear end .. seems unfair when you have so much on including keeping up with us lot!!. It's raining here too but I am rather glad of it in terms of the garden. We don't have hose pipe ban as everyone is on a meter system here - but view out of the window was looking very parched. Thanks for links btw!!

Hope you are OK Bitchy

Thewaffler I need a copy of that cd!!! I have Paul Mckenna 'I can make you thin' and relaxation cd always makes me (a) fall asleep or (b) cackle with hysterical laughter

Carpe hope your day is less onerous than yesterday and toddler group goes well

Huge waves to Ellie Toffee Scatty PA Feetheart and everyone I've missed

Oh no... the time has come ... wings are waiting ... can procrastinate no longer ...

sanguinechompa · 19/04/2012 13:49

x posts

[Waves to Blue through car window]

arf at whoknow's tranquilisers!!! (but keep them away from Bitchy Wink Grin)

Trying Shock at yr dd1 and mouse! Oh no! Hope no lasting damage ...and hope your dd2 "unclings" later on ...

Good luck Carpe with your sample collection - hope your ds ok - respect at creative micropore solutions ....

OK - I really must go now ....

sanguinechompa · 19/04/2012 13:54

Sorry - just googling for inspiration and snorting with fear laughter at this link

Thought 'angel' might be easily interchangeable with 'horse' but 70 hours!!!! Shock

CarpeJugulum · 19/04/2012 14:07

T'is all sorted and samples are in the freezer. In a bag. In a box. Box wiped down with Dettol before going in freezer. Anal? Me?! Grin

DS is hale and hearty, but has been offered an asthma drug trial (although he's technically not got asthma as they can't do all the required flow tests due to his age) to see if giving said drug at the start of a cold is more effective at stopping wheeze in colds. Drug is already licenced, but they want to use it in a different way. As DS has been nebulised during colds and uses his inhaler frequently, anything that maybe prevents this is worth a shot!

As it's a clinical trial, they need DNA to see if he has a few specific markers and urine sample for um... some other random test! Grin

We have to do the whole thing again in a year, but hopefully at 2.5 he'll be a bit more able rather than having to use bags that don't really work!

Off to throw food down his throat and then head for ASDA.

Tryingtogetairbourne · 19/04/2012 14:22

Blue sounds relaxing....

Got nightmare of afternoon...sch run soon. Then ballet for dd1 at 4 til 4.45 in town A with dd2 in tow...then at 5 til 6 ballet in town B, other side of. Same ballet school so they will understand lateness. BUT...to get to one place than the other (car park a to car park b) will be...15 to 20 min depending on traffic. Not inc dd1's incrediable slowness of changing shoes...all she has to do, no outfit change needed, and getting to and from car with dd1 (slowest walker) and dd2 (usually tantruming and refusing to get in car seat). I volunteered so dd1 could do extra ballet lessons...only lasts till july then timetable change, but could be a looooooonnnnggggg summer term.

Got to keep dd2 entertained for an hour and a half. I already feel frustrated and like screaming...and tantrumming myself after todays lack of progress...I was mad to say I'd do it... fish and chips for tea.

Will need that wine this afternoon tonight. Going to try and go to cafe for dd2 and round one. Got to get dd1 a snack ready before we go as well...

Tryingtogetairbourne · 19/04/2012 14:31

Oh well done Carpe was it the micropore solution that worked? Maybe help Sanguine with wings now with that imaginative thinking?...hope you get the wings sorted. And the next 'project'. Do they think you have nothing better to do?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/04/2012 14:56

I was at work! Now I'm home, I have cleared the decks somewhat for OU work to take place tonight. But thanks for keeping an eye on me, I do need it!

Ta-da!

Phoned bank
Phoned dentist

Too many posts to catch up, so wing flaps to all.

Done:

Morning routine
School run
Crisis clean before cleaner arrives
Unexpected visit from friend Smile
DS and I walked the dog with magical powers
Lunch
Cleaner here. House sorted. Grin
School run

DS1 suddenly decided this morning that he would go into work to help DH put up shelves. He has been too anxious to get in a vehicle for months Shock. He went along with no problems, as if there was never anything wrong. He also informed us that he will be coming on holiday with us to Spain.

Shock Shock Shock

I think this dog we are walking is working magic. That and the new 'method' we are using, which has fantastic relaxation CDs for DS. He has been listening to one at bedtime and falling asleep earlyish for a change.

CarpeJugulum · 19/04/2012 16:17

Wings. Metal coat hanger (or two per wing) plus a couple for harness over shoulder. Hanger can be shaped if required.

Stretch white material (old sheet is perfect) and staple/fabric glue. Then use remainder of sheet or separate sheet cut into strips and fabric glued on for the feathers. If crafty, cut feather shapes.

Also, can dye "feathers" or use different colours. Tissue stuck to sheet will also work as will felt.

MoreCatsThanKids · 19/04/2012 16:43

Waves at everyone (including animals - especially toffee and her magic dog)

Things done
Cake :)
Phone call EWO :(
DDs counselling session Hmm
Bag out on doorstep for charity collection (containing DDs old primary school summer dresses (she's 13)
Washing into machine (note to self : you have to take it out again the same day)
Nothing else except loooong talk DD about councelling session and how crap it is to be her :(

Thinking about doing today's tasks now - what 'nice thing' are we putting in laundry area?

BlueEyeshadow · 19/04/2012 17:26

Toffee that's great news! Fingers, toes & everything else crossed for you & Ds1...

ToffeeWhirl · 19/04/2012 19:25

carpe - am impressed, especially as costumes are not my forte (am better at ordering from ebay Blush)

MoreCats - sounds like your DD needs a magic dog too. Hope her counselling session was helpful.

Blue - thank you!

Forgot to add to my 'done' list - home ed with DS1 (otherwise it looks like I did nothing much). Had a very wearing argument with DS about whether he knew his times tables or not, but I won in the end.

DS2 is reading my post again. Gotta go!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/04/2012 19:26

Yay! Well that's a result Toffee. That programme must be good

Yay! Well, that's a result Carpe. I have memories of trying to extract urine out of a nappy clad DS, we never managed it, luckily whatever it was got better by itself.

Yay! Well, that's a result MoreCats - chocolate cake sounds scrummy.

OK, I'll stop there. Nice to see some happy Fledglings.

I have nearly finished the evening routines, just need to get the washing put away, clothes for tomorrow, DCs to bed. Then I can hit the wine OU stuff.

sanguinechompa · 19/04/2012 19:38

Thank you Carpe Very good of you to take the time. Would have loved to use real feathers but have gone for speedy/lazy option of cardboard/foam, drawn-on plumes with a bit of judicious purpley bluey grey felt-tip shading and glitter pen ...supported by white plastic cross bar at back (part from old, torn fairy castle tent) and white petersham ribbon tie-ons .... dd did one wing and I did the other. Already had blank horse mask which we have decorated in same colours ... hope that will be sufficient given it is inter-form play rather than proper play in front of parents etc ....and I was given approx 48 hrs notice .... I've had my first glass of Wine now so I think it will have to be!

[Opens another bottle for everyone and leaves out Wine Wine Wine in naughty corner, including one for Morecat's laundry room Wink] Well done with bag for charity collection btw but sorry to hear your dd is still going through such a tough time x

Toffee that is brill!! Well done to your ds1!! Great news about holiday too!! Sorry to bother you when you are so busy with everything, but pls could I ask for details of relaxation cd? Think one of my godson's could benefit - and it sounds really excellent.

Today went OK. I'm finally getting the house back in to some decent sort of shape after terrible start to year although floors pockets of squalour persist (such as boudoir and home office). Finally got laundry and meal plans back on track too although caught out tonight when dd unexpectedly brought friend back from tennis for an oj and a bun and er, I didn't have any ... [Make note to bake on Thurs as well as prep suppers]

Hoping beyond hope that six weekly fortnightly ironing lady turns up tomorrow.

G'night all!

sanguinechompa · 19/04/2012 19:39

bum I've forgotten school meeting!!!!!!

sanguinechompa · 19/04/2012 19:40

ToffeeWhirl · 19/04/2012 20:02

SC - have PMd you re relaxation CD. Hope your ironing lady turns up tomorrow - my cleaning lady told me she could do some ironing for me next time she comes Grin.

BitchyInTheCorner · 19/04/2012 22:00
