April Fledglings Fly into Spring, Get That Clutter into the Bin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/03/2012 22:47

Welcome to the April 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Come and join us for a bit of chat and a lot of housework (or possibly the other way round).

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us through March

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis. Feel free to browse the Flylady website as well, links below

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Debate whether to go 30 min to nearest town to clothes shop for myself or would it be a waste of time and could do via catalogue??? 14min before sch run!!! aggghhh!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/04/2012 08:06

Awww, Fledglings chatting in the middle of the night. Hope everyone managed to get a bit of sleep.

Trying if your weather is anything like ours this morning I would be staying at home and using the catalogue, unless you have an indoor shopping centre. Thanks for making the morning cuppa!

Sorry PA crashed at 11:30pm ish and got up about 5am. Absolutely crackered but got about 90% of the paperwork needed for the meeting later finished. Will finish the other 10% post school run.

trying are you certain of style/sizing - if so internet can be good. otherwise town sounds like a plan.

Morning feet

Ds is tired and claimed he will be late for school he won't be. he just needs to clean his teeth and we have another 20mins before earliest leaving for school time. Today we are organised ShockShock Mind you did do the fly lady clothes and lunches night before thing. Damm her it does works

BitchyInTheCorner · 18/04/2012 08:08

Morning Whoknows

PositiveAttitude · 18/04/2012 08:22

Going to be the longest day in history!!!!

BitchyInTheCorner · 18/04/2012 08:29

I wish I could say that PA but as the longest day on record in my history was 72hrs long Hmm I would be lying. Sleep is good and I have a 1hr nap slot booked for this afternoon. Just so I don't end up killing ds over the matter of homework.

Right 5mins before need to leave, must finish getting ready and stop lurking on mn. Blush

Have good days

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/04/2012 08:55

Phew, back from school. Foul weather, luckily not quite windy enough to blow umbrellas inside out. I'll have a coffee, thanks Bitchy.

OK, to do

empty DW put in breakfast dishes
swish and swipe (forgot earlier)
washing in dryer
next lot of washing on
sort out gardening club rota and email out
hotspots
parcel up present for Dneice birthday
Go to work
Post parcel on way
what's for dinner, I give up on that one, all the bloody fussy eaters / late back from work DHs make it impossible to plan properly

Better get on.

just popping in; wrote a long post yesterday but then it disappeared, and I had to do some actual housework so...

Yesterday was unbelievably tiring, don't quite know why, possibly because I went to a late night event at ds's school on Monday. Motivational speech from guest speaker about the theory of "Have a Go" (this to all teenage boys) and how "enthusiasm" is key to happiness. Ds wasn't really meant to be there, but he was singing in choir. Anyway yesterday I was completely wiped out, and things fell apart as usual Hmm

Dog is here now, and he is in a completely manic mood, after not seeing me for 2 and half weeks, racing round the room with a plastic jug and half chewed croc, although his owners have already taken him for an hour run on Wormwood Scrubs...Confused Could it be joy and enthusiasm at seeing me, his mistress manque? He is certainly lifting me out of the doldrums though gloom may be replaced by irritation shortly Hmm The kittens took one look at him and made a flying leap behind Ds2's lego spaceship, demolishing - oh dear I see the jug is now in splintered pieces help, better put dog outside and he is eying up keyboard for next chewing excursion..

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 18/04/2012 09:39

Thanks for the Brew bitchy
Good to see your to-do and ta-da lists WhoKnows (nice name too Smile)
Trying to find some enthusiasm to "have a go" swanthing

... perhaps start with a list ? What do you think ?

swanthingafteranother · 18/04/2012 09:40

put clothes away
put clothes away

swanthingafteranother · 18/04/2012 09:46

I would make a very very short list, lists can be sometimes alarming and spiral out of control...Blush Juggling

scattyspice · 18/04/2012 09:53

LOL swan sitting through a presentation on 'having a go' and 'enthusiasm' would probably finish me off too! Hope you can get your pets under control (remember 'you are the adult' Wink).

PA and feet sympathy for the poor sleep. Hope you can trudge through the day somehow.

Still feeling grotty so easy day planned:
bathroom/kitchen wipe down
laundry
buy bread
recycling out

Might join you for that scheduled nap bitchy Smile.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 18/04/2012 09:54

Thanks swanthing - a short list so something gets done today sounds good.

DD needs an updated passport for a school trip this summer so would be great if I could make some progress with that form ...

Don't know if I dare put washing on as machine has developed a mysterious leak even when not in use Confused

Tryingtogetairbourne · 18/04/2012 09:54

Start with sink juggling?

Best use of nearly full day today with no dd's! Sod it, will dog walk first and get it out of the way...have to feed them first!!! eek! Walk at 10 til 11 oh and will write out grocery list while they are scranning breakie...bugger. Feel behind but as fly lady says, your never behind!! I would have do debate that quote Hmm pessemist I am...or is it realist hmm

Must get move on. Even cat watching me now. poor starved creatures. Hmm

swanthingafteranother · 18/04/2012 10:00

As Auden said Trying "It's later than you think" Wink so you are always behind...

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 18/04/2012 10:02

I'll give my sink some attention and get some washing up done, that will help things this evening when DCs home.

But I don't find it very inspiring - like you I'd love to go out for a bit AirBourne if the rain stops for long enough !

BitchyInTheCorner · 18/04/2012 10:24

Ta da:

Finish paperwork for meeting - VERY URGENT!!!!!! done
Discover important piece of paper is mising done
Go on mad hunt for said piece of paper, including using very colourful language done
Find stupid piece of paper done
Job applications sent
tackle bedroom some more
meeting in next town just leaving
School run morning done
School run after noon
Shopping in second town
finish laundry mountain tackling
sleep?
Pot plug plants
Figure out what to do with runner beans that are getting HUGE. done - they are simply going to have to start being toughened up and go out. Same with broad beans (although at least those are a dwarf variety)

Right see you after nap/afternoon school run. Can't wait til early bedtime tonight.

feetheart · 18/04/2012 10:59

Mooooooaaaaaaaaan!
Its going to be a loooooooooong day here too PA- got to sleep about 3.30am to be woken by fecking girlcat playing assault courses over us and the surfaces in our bedroom at 5am Shock AND she was responsible for the mouse guts yesterday AND the dead bird ON OUR BEDROOM FLOOR last night AND she is now fast asleep in a nice comfy place in the living room AngryAngryAngry Bl**dy animals.
I don't like tea or coffee so will have to survive on chocolate instead. I may have to make cake Hmm

However in the middle of the night I did get some things done:

  • Paid car parking fine - disputed it but no joy :(
  • Wrote letter to head re DD's schooling and how we don't think a jobshare for this term will give the class the stability they need (she hasn't had a teacher last a term in over a year now ShockAngry) She is Yr4!!!
  • Filled in form requesting leave of absence from school. Am prepared for battle if it comes to it
  • Filled in part of event insurance form
  • Sorted out lots of paperwork trying to find folder of receipts to claim back from School Assoc. No joy yet and could do with the money.

List for today:

  • Work
  • Event insurance form
  • Bits of morning routine
  • Sort dinner
  • Nap maybe but doubt it
  • Try not to fall asleep whilst having facial later

Need to find chocolate first, then work..........

CarpeJugulum · 18/04/2012 11:33

I'm BAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!

Did you miss me?! Grin

Guests have finally gone (thank heavens) and I've managed to grab some laptop time.

DS's naps/evening sleep is getting back to normal and he's back eating again (albeit not in his high chair) so it's all looking positive. Well, bar a slightly grumpy DS as DH is back at work.

Washing mountain is just about up to date.
House is still relatively tidy.
Planning to pop to the shop with DS when he wakes, and then bake this afternoon.

Having the rest of the week "off" from flying (bar the basics like S&S/wiping up etc) and then starting again on Monday.

Will try to catch up with the thread later!

swanthingafteranother · 18/04/2012 11:41

oh dear, think I slightly overegged the cake Hmm with all these animals.
Kittens hate the mere sight of dog, and are terrified of the sounds coming from kitchen when I leave him.. Dog (in the kitchen) refusing to let me out of his sight again (we had this before the break at the beginning, but he had got used to me pottering BUT now he is determined I should sit next to him all the time. Feel terrible for kittens. Dog will be gone at 3pm, hope I can make up to them then, at least there are two of them [two closed doors away] Now, I am going to attempt to tiptoe past the sleeping dog and go somewhere else in the house without him having a nervous breakdown...He spent the hols being looked after by someone other than his owners and I think separation anxiety has set in Sad

done
unloaded dw

Tryingtogetairbourne · 18/04/2012 11:45

Carpe How long do your guests stay for!!!

feetheart bet she still looks sweet curled up in cosy place tho...butter wouldn't melt I bet...bit bad about your dd's teachers...that should not be happening...

Juggling it was okay out...! Still nice to get fresh air, how is sink coming on?

Swan I knew I was right...I know I'm behind now as I have shopping piled up, grocerys piled up, 2 x laundry baskets, dishes to do and that is just the kitchen Hmm Sure it won't take long to fix [bright stepford wife smile] may even do some cupcakes!

Its going to take FOREVER!!! And I will do nothing but flipping housework all day AGAIN!!! On one day I have off!!!

Feckin housework.

CarpeJugulum · 18/04/2012 11:56

Trying we had PIL last Tues-Thu, then my lot from Fri - yesterday.

Was very tiring, but on the other hand, boxes ticked until July Wink

Tryingtogetairbourne · 18/04/2012 12:22

Carpe wow...at least your house gets a good clean every few months Grin or do you visit them?

Got mamma mia. Got distracted, meant to start house blessing instead...
Done
chopped veg for lunch and in oven
almost put out one hot spot (to be replaced by another 3...Hmm) and found lots of 'missing' things.
chucked out 2 bunches of very dead flowers
put on dw
filled sink with soapy water and soaking dishes etc
emptied pan of moldy stew...then had to let it drain and grab handfuls back out again to put in rubbish (yuk!)

so quite a bit doen in 35 min....just not what i meant to do...

So house blessing...after lunch...may check lunch and have time to do 10 min hoovering while waiting ...can i do it? yes i can!!

feetheart · 18/04/2012 12:41

Hot choc, yes please Trying

Yes girlcat does look very sweet but I am SO tempted to go and sit on her and poke her then run round the room knocking things off the surfaces :o

I have worked as much as I can, if I carried on now I think I would be spending tomorrow correcting it so am going to pack it all away - work on kitchen table!
Will make Yorkshire batter for dinner, finish washing up from last night this morning, make a few phone calls then collapse on sofa until pick up time.

Toast, jam and hot choc for lunch I think.
