April Fledglings Fly into Spring, Get That Clutter into the Bin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/03/2012 22:47

Welcome to the April 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Come and join us for a bit of chat and a lot of housework (or possibly the other way round).

A huge "thank you" to SanguineChompa for leading us through March

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat and support along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis. Feel free to browse the Flylady website as well, links below

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here and here!

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Evening all,

Bitchy arf at technology fail, impressed with your list.

Nick impressed with your list too, especially as you were minding too

Toffee you've made me smile picturing you politely accepting Daily Mail cuttings.

Trying the DCs would love to get a dog, but your tales of endless shitting and weeing are not persuading me!

TheWaffler hope you had a nice tea with your sister.

Carpe I agree with just doing little jobs as you see them, they just become habit and then you hardly notice yourself doing them. In theory anyway!

Scatty / Feet hope you enjoyed your museum visits.

Blue sounds as though you had a productive day too.

Apologies if I've missed anyone, I'm on the IPad and scrolling is fiddly. Going to attempt links next but not sure how well they will work.

Thursday Babystep

Delete Flylady Emails.

OP posts:
BlueEyeshadow · 11/04/2012 22:36

Good evening!

WhoKnows - yes, quite productive although more with work/blogging than flying. Hey ho. Did the ironing and hoovered downstairs but not the filing.

thewaffler - don't know if it will work yet - he won't see her until term starts again next week. I suspect not though. :(

Toffee - not screaming at Daily Wail cuttings made me Grin - reminds me of my Grandma...

Waves to all. Busy tomorrow so suspect no flying then either. Oh well.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/04/2012 22:38

Thursday Mission

Wipe down your large appliances

OP posts:
NickNacks · 11/04/2012 22:43

Excellent thanks whoknows that mission is much needed here and I will do the cupboard and drawer fronts too!

Good night all!

thewaffler · 12/04/2012 03:55

Another late post, suspect ds teething, he's not that interested in feeding, so shoved calpol down and will try to tiptoe out.

Mrs Welsummer has had a stay of execution, checked on her earlier with dh and she's not looking as bad as I had thought. I even administered mite treatment while dh held her which iis definitely progress. Not sure she's touched her food, so dh going to hand feed tomorrow, phoned farm where we got her from and they will despatch her if its required, now hoping its not and there is a chance she could be ok, if not, is a weight off my mind, dh last attempt to kill a v poorly chicken disasterous, stress inducing for both of them and ended up with unintentional decapitation....pets sound like a good idea at the time, trying 2 shitting dogs don't sound like fun either, although they're both young so hopefully easier to reset?

Have failed on all missions this week but laundry all done and house relatively tidy. Have a couple of hours at home tomorrow before out for the day, so will try to wash down appliances, may even attempt cupboard fronts too, as dd Likes to 'help' with that one

Night all

CarpeJugulum · 12/04/2012 07:50

PIL still here. No clue when they are leaving today, but have decided to ignore them and just stick in the required clothes washing (there was a DH/DS/fruit juice interaction Hmm as it looks like its nice enough for me to hang stuff out. But until they're up, I can't put the machine on.

Still, will be nice to have peace once they go - for about 24 hours before my DF and SM arrive. Shock

Tryingtogetairbourne · 12/04/2012 08:25

Morning all!

Busy day ahead. Project Mouse
Got dogs to walk, may incorporate this into Project Mouse, who is to be picked up 12.30 onward 30 min drive away.
Good idea to get the farm to do the dispatch of Mrs Welsummer. I do hope she's really ok...but it sounds like it would be a kindness to keep dh away from her...accidental decapitation?!?! You do know that chickens can keep going after being killed? So she may have been dead by the decapitation stage...Sounds like you don't need aversion therapy, just keep doing what your doing...little bit at time...how were you afterwards...shaky?

Oh and BIG NEWS!!!! No shit on floor this morning!!! woop woop!!! Or wee!!! There again ddog2 has had nothing to eat since tuesday night. When he was poorly last time I had to feed first on the afternoon of the following day...if that makes sense...basically this aft. Instead of expensive dog food that looks disgusting going to cook up some rice and chicken then introduce sensitive stomach food in maybe 3 days...ddog1 and dcat will be jealous.

Hope dc got back to sleep. And you did. Dd2 was teething for first year or two...yet dd1 never bothered...

CarpeJugulum I read 7.50 as 7.50pm Shock then realised I'd misread and to think yourself lucky it isn't 7.50pm Grin Did you invite them over and your df and sm? Seems a bit sadistic if you did Hmm

Thanks Whoknows for steps, how is the ER viewing going?

So jobs again for today

Wash up
Previous days Washing in and nearly done
Previous days Drying in and nearly freshened up done
Wipe down large appliances.
Project Mouse with dog walk and visit to somewhere, sunny here today!!

Have a good productive day all!

NickNacks · 12/04/2012 09:20

Hi everyone
Sorry I'm so rubbish at personals but the laptop is temperamental so I post mainly from my phone which is painstakingly slow!

However I am laughing at reading all your tales of shitting dogs, PIL visits, poorly chickens teething babies :(

We're all off today so will either be very productive or very restful.

Today's wash and dry
Maybe take dcs for haircuts - much needed
Food shop
Mission
Finish calls about dhs birthday
Call about my EHIC card
Check online banking-again !!!!!
Wash dcs bedding

Will add to this I imagine but this will get me started! :)

elliepac · 12/04/2012 14:05

Afternoon all. Apologies for lengthy absence. Combination of recovering from school trip/easter/packing to come to caravan/crap reception in aforementioned caravanGrin.

School trip was actually fabulous. Utterly exhausting but an awful lot of fun. Pupils/staff were all lovely ( luckily we all get on in the history department, like a big familySmile) and very funny. Trips like that make all the other shit that comes with the job worthwhileSmile.

Got home, had Easter and then came up to the caravan on Tuesday. I have realised i rapidly turning into my parents as weather was crap yesterday but we still took a picnic and went to Dalby Forest to jump in muddy puddles and generally have a whale of a time. Dsis was here but she has gone home now leaving dc's and i until dh arrives tomorrow for the weekend.

Will try and catch up with you lovely lot now but reception is crap so if i don't return it is nothing personalGrin.

BitchyInTheCorner · 12/04/2012 14:11

i attempted an early night. Succeeded too until the phone went and woke me up. Took ages to go back to sleep and not long been up which has put my day completely off its kilter.

Tons and tons I need to do. But in the event of resucing something from today I am going to list post going to bed the first time successes as part of today's ta da.

Lots of fiddly pieces for new big project
Figure out final exactr pattern for big project
Figure out measurements/dimensions issue for another project
Crochet one 10x10cm square from left over wool
Knit one basic patterned 10x10cm square
some more crocheting (about 1hr) on current baby blanket.
check housing situation in town might relocate to.
Check housing situation in local area for comparison
Crash a website trying to find some important information Angry
Check email
Cast eye over paperwork emailed across - although need to return to this in more detail.
Consider which of 3 pieces of equipment needs replacing most urgently. (Computer is going to win with a temp fix to training equipement. Crafting equipment loses out yet again)
make a rough plan of action for today

To do:
shower
out to next town for banking, wool and needles, basic food shop.
Hit my bedroom and get tidy
Got to training equipment shop for ds' urgent piece of equipment (he needs a new helmet).
laundry
Paperwork - URGENT
Water broad beans - URGENT

I too have been chuckling at all the animal fun and games. No pets here but rented so none allowed. thank fuck

Right one coffee down really must hit the ground running and running fast.
Catch you all later.

CarpeJugulum · 12/04/2012 16:26

PIL left at about 10, DS went for a nap and I went back to bed and slept until 1 Blush

Got sore ears at the moment, residue of a cold and just feel a bit bleurgh, but DH (who's on holiday) took DS out and did the shopping so I dozed again.

I did invite PIL and then my side in quick succession, but both sides have teachers involved, so it's always going to be visits close to each other when PIL can be bothered

Still, at least it gets it over with all at once and I only have to crisis clean once Wink

sanguinechompa · 12/04/2012 16:28

Hellloooo!! Hope you are all enjoying relaxing Easter holidays. But sorry to hear about poorly pets.

We returned on Tuesday night from a few breezy energetic days (swimming, tennis, riding) in the German countryside and my muscles are protesting. Dh and I are tottering around like a pair of arthritic octogenarian hunchbacks (apologies to any arthritic octogenarian hunchbacks who may be reading this btw - but you are probably in better shape than us atm Grin) And even dd, who continued riding yesterday at a local stable is complaining of a sore bum and back. (It will be supper off the mantelpiece again tonight Grin)

And I've gone and broken all Flylady rules and landed myself in a pickle. In a fit of undirected enthusiasm started maniacally spring cleaning/decluttering the playroom, sitting room and main boudoir yesterday - pulling out loads more than I could reasonably put back in a day. And this morning was faced with such mayhem that I promptly left the premises! Have just got back and the cleaner is coming tomorrow. As things stand .. she will hardly be able to walk from one room to another. Oh dear - what have I done? You'd think I'd learn after all this time Confused

So had better go and clear a path or two before dd gets back from yet another day at the stables. Will catch up with thread later and everyone's news once immediate "chaos crisis" has passed!

Huge waves to everyone though! And thanks for all the links and round-ups Whoknows.

scattyspice · 12/04/2012 19:15

HI ALL. (oops caps lock). Busy day at work = headache so just done basics. DC in high spirits after a day with dh Grin. Catch up tomorrow.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/04/2012 19:41

Snap Scatty, by about 11 o'clock today at work I had a headache and felt sick so I came home as I couldn't concentrate anyway. Hope you feel better soon. I took some tablets, spent an hour in bed with the DCs climbing all over me (gently and carefully I might add) and felt much better. DH took the DCs swimming so I caught up with some more ER and did some crocheting, then we all had fish and chips for tea. I have done some light cleaning and quite a lot of tidying in the last couple of hours, so the day has not been wasted.

Trying - I'm enjoying the ERs, I was a huge fan but never saw the first 3 seasons, it's brilliant seeing how all the stories and characters started out. It's a bit emotionally draining watching it night after night though, I keep ending up in tears. I am laughing at their technology though, no mobiles, floppy discs and very first ventures onto the internet though, all seems very dated.

Ellie and SC - welcome back. Ellie - your caravan sounds like a huge asset to your family . SC - tut, tut! Hope you get sorted with your chaos.

Carpe - ear pain is horrible, hope it clears up soon. I've got a lingering sinus infection from a cold a few weeks ago, doesn't really hurt but I am aware of feeling a bit blocked and have to keep blowing my nose all the time, I am wondering if the headache had anything to do with it.

Bitchy - possible relocation plan sounds interesting .

Back later.

OP posts:
BlueEyeshadow · 12/04/2012 21:20

Waves to SC and Ellie

We've been out most of today but I did manage to do the mission this morning - I thought the appliances were pretty clean until I saw how much gunge came off! Truly the Fat Fairy sees all...

Hope you manage to clear some paths SC!

thewaffler · 12/04/2012 21:50

I'm in bed, and knackered, been out for most of day so little flying, did manage to tidy kitchen before I went. No exercise dvd today but made up for it with trip out to local animal farm - incidentally the one we got chickens from. Left car at far end end of park as actual car park was rammed with easter hols, this entailed walking some way to farm, decided to have ds in sling and dd wanted to walk pushing her own pushchair and 'baby jack' which allowed as usually keeps her entertained. Having looked at animals, it starts to piss it down and dd had enough and keeps laying on floor, so had to carry her screaming on one hip, ds on front a very heavy change bag and pushchair and baby jack back to car, this happened fairly recently, you'd think I'd learn.

trying it could be that the previously despatched chicken, Margo, was indeed dead but still running about, I wasn't witness to it, stayed in doors with fingers in ears pretending it wasn't happening. Dh insistent that as a chicken owner, he.needed.to be responsible, take charge and do it himself (also incredibly tight and wouldn't pay out for vets) this chicken definitely did need despatching, he psyched himself up, read about how to break its neck but was outside for ages, transpires that having thought he'd done the deed, Margo jumped up.and ran about looking perkier than she had done for the previous week, so he had to do it again, and then again, and then used a different method. We don't have much luck with chickens, Margo's partner in crime, Barbara, turned out to be a cock, so sent him back. Pleased to hear you had a clean floor this morning, hope.its the start of things to come. Hope dogs and cat not too intrigued by project mouse?

That's me done for the night, physical excesses of the.day have taken their toll, came to bed early to have an early one

See you all tomorrow

BitchyInTheCorner · 13/04/2012 02:13

Well today didn't go as planned. late night, early start. Tomorrow is going to be crazy.

Friday's list:
Tidy my floor
Put my clothes away
Laundry
Make ds' room look posh
Tidy kitchen
water plants
PAPER WORK
A nap
Training
Recycling out
rubbish out
Panic
Find some seats in the lounge
put some crafting stuff away
Panic some more
More paperwork
Consider plan of action for saturday.
Retape stick
Hide.

Yep I think that will about do it.

whoknows - sometimes you have to go where the work is. Relocation is a last resort. Tbh I don't really want to, but sometimes needs must. Hoping something else comes up first.

NickNacks · 13/04/2012 02:21

Awake. Can't sleep, have very heavy period.

Sorry for tmi but I feel like I'm dying (ott alert !!).

About to go back to bed and try and sleep

BitchyInTheCorner · 13/04/2012 02:39

Nicknacks - i:( t's horrid when that happens. Hope you manage to get some sleep.

NickNacks · 13/04/2012 03:32

Thanks bitchy, no luck as yet :(

sanguinechompa · 13/04/2012 08:31

Morning all [props open eyes with matchsticks] I was up far too late last night doing thngs that were entirely non-productive

[Strong coffee available in the naughty corner. Waves to Bitchy]

[Hands strong paracetemol, hot water bottle and fluffy pillow to Nicknacks] Sorry to hear you are feeling rotten and hope misery eases soon. Don't suffer in silence - get thee to a gynaecologist before next month. Having experienced all manner of womb issues for years, you have my every sympathy. My life was transformed a year or so ago by the judicious administration of hormones ....!! Severe pain/nausea/vomiting/anaemia/ migraines/five days blanked out of calendar every month all eliminated in one, fell swoop. There is an increased risk at my age of stroke but have fully discussed them with two different doctors and take minimum dose - only alternative for me is full hysterectomy so it's a risk I am willing to take. Frankly for me it is very much worth it. Bet that is more info than anyone wants to know on here Blush but just don't want you to suffer without having full investigation - there are treatment options. Be persistant until you find a solution. Good luck!

As for Flying. Very tempted to hide under cushions as still chaotic here. Thanks for the encouragement Blue - I took a head in sand approach yesterday!! Need to be more productive this morning.

Good to hear both dog and chicken recovering The waffler and Tryingtogetairbourne (Well hanging in there, in the case of the chicken anyway!)

Huge waves to everyone else!! Better get on.

ToffeeWhirl · 13/04/2012 08:43

Poor Nicknacks Sad. Hope you're feeling better this morning.

Not much time to get on here at the moment, but I'm lurking when I get a minute. Apart from it being the holidays and having both children at home, my mind is entirely taken up with dealing with DS1's anxiety issues. He will still only go as far as the local playground for about 15 minutes and refuses to do anything else (lots of "I can't"s). However, I have bought a package which helps anxiety sufferers and am working on putting that in place for him. It's a kind of 'Flylady system' for anxiety!
