Best dishwasher?

Looking for a new one. Must have a delay setting and be reasonably fast, e.g. our current one, which came with the house can't do anything in less than 100 minutes!! And now it can't do anything, it's an Electrolux Dishlex. By way of contrast, in our last rental, the Bosch could do a full load in 25, perfect every time. But I can't remember the model.

Any suggestions?

The man who came to install our new Siemens dishwasher said that most of the "good" brands' machines are the same, just some have more features. So his suggestion was to go for a Bosch or a Siemens and buy the lowest-spec model. Also, we got a free 5 year guarantee, which is worth shopping around for.

We have had in the past a Smeg which was awful too.

we have a Bosch Logixx which has a express wash of 29 mins. Its standard washes are over 2 hours but you can half those times by pressing the quick wash button. It is very quiet and has a cutlery tray at the top rather than a basket in the bottom rack.

Bosch, or Miele if you can afford it.

Bosch and Siemens share a design and manufacture company, and some, though not all, their machines are very similar inside. I got a Siemens recently in John Lewis sale (reduced, last years model) which came out very well on test. Haven't used it yet (long story, moving house) and have previously been very happy with Bosch

Tell us a budget and I'll look up "Which" best buys.

Love my Miele one (far, far better than the Bosch one we had before it) but it takes close to 2 hours to do a standard wash. There is a 40 mins quick wash option but it doesn't get things clean enough. has a fab cutlery tray too.

If I tell you we have Miele vacuum and washing machine, that'll indicate the budget. It's about time, really.

I have wanted a dishwasher forever but didn't have the budget. We got a Miele from eBay that was still in it's 5 year guarantee. Very happy.

Can I be cheeky and ask, as you all seem to be quite upon white goods, which is the best, cheapest, quietest dishwasher? Ours sounds like a hurricane and takes forever.

Miele. Personally like the ones with the upper cutlery drawer - no bending or jamming knives and forks in the holder at the bottom like a version of kerplunk. And safer (was told a grim story about a toddler that tripped over the open dishwasher door & onto the cutlery at the bottom).

it scored three stars for noise, same as the £890 Miele G 5720 SC which scored 78%.

Some Miele owners may feel put out by that.

PigletJohn I think I love you. . We have a Whirlpool and it's sooo noisy. It's in the kitchen/dining room/living room/play room and we can't have it on if we're in there. I have been looking at comparisons but it's a bit like asking a pig to mend a watch. Thank you.

the full-size Siemens machines score better (4 stars) for noise (and are similar to Bosch) but are more expensive in the Which Best-buy lists.

Mine is a SE26N250GB which is now discontinued.

Hmm. Lots of good advice here. I'm in Oz, but all this stuff is sold here, at an inflated price, of course.
I've been amusing myself looking on the net at all the diatribes against the Electrolux Dishlex range.:o I've no complaints myself as the machine came with the house, but have no wish to have such a long-winded machine now I'm buying it.

Can I sort of hijack? I want a stainless steel full-size dishwasher, ideally with the cutlery tray as a top rack but minus the Miele £1000 price tag. I don't mind paying around £500. Energy efficiency would be good. Any ideas?
I'm looking at a Siemens one or a Bosch but neither are those listed below in the Which results.

the stainless wrapping (or other colours) will usually be a slightly different model no. but the same machine inside. If you browse the maker's website or catalogue you might be able to see what it is.

I like the look of the FIsher Paykel dishwasher with two drawers, looks much easier to load and unload than the usual pull out fronts.
They are pricey though

Cons: Very poor energy and water efficiency, no delayed start

but it is quite pretty.

We have a Neff - 33 min cycle and runs when we are in the kitchen with virtually no noise. DM has recently bought her first - latest version of same Dishwasher - and become a complete convert - but only because it is so quick. DSis has Miele and it takes an absolute age!

I love my Dishdrawers.

We've just bought a second dishdrawer, the old one was 12 years old and can't get a crucial part for it anymore. I've seen those bad reviews but we've hardly had a problem with it. The pump broke on one of the drawers a few years ago, but the second drawer still worked. If I had the money and kitchen space, I'd get two; and extra wide one and an extra deep one.

PigletJohn, you can delay start the dishdrawer for up to (I think) 13 hours.
