Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

Evening all. Sorry I am bit late posting. I got way-laid by a TV documentary about Irish dancing ...

How has everyone's 1st day of the month gone? [SC flinches from gleam of a thousand sinks]

Like Whoknows I was a little distracted by the unexpectedly good weather today and spent most of it outside which meant the interior has suffered!

Baby-step no 2 for Friday 2nd September is: here and yes, it's the controversial one!! Some of us swear by it, some of us roll our eyes. It's up to you. But for the sake of newcomers, Fat Fairy reasoning behind it is here

Tomorrow we are still in zone 1 here The mission will update with the website.

But for a sneak-peak ahead the mission for tomorrow in detail is here

And here's a useful link for all beginners. It gives you an idea of the Fat Fairy's daily and weekly routines which you can adapt to suit yourself.

Just a reminder - for everyone who would like to look at all the baby-steps in one document - Linzer has kindly posted it this morning at 06.13

Back in a mo for round-up.

feetheart · 01/09/2011 23:22

Good intentions and Flying ambushed by lovely weather here too however Ta da list includes:

  • Run
  • Washing up x many though DH did evening lot (this means sink will not be shiny but can't have everything!)
  • S&S
  • Cat litter
  • 2 loads of washing (though just realised they are both still on the line outside Blush
  • Finished packing away camping stuff from w/e
  • Dealt with plumber and man about blinds for rental flat
  • Swept kitchen floor
  • Hoovered DD's room so friend could sleep over
  • Few bits of shopping and stuff from bakers for lunch
  • PARK :)
  • DS's swimming lesson
  • Let all 3 DC (my 2 and DD's friend) make chicken nuggets - one on flour, one on egg, one on breadcrumbs. Was nervous but they did a brilliant job :)
  • All 3 DC to bed and asleep eventually
  • Drooled over Captain Jack :o

Not bad really.

Need to get to bed now as 'sleepover's' little sister is turning up at 8.30am for the morning.

BIG waves to everyone new and old.
Night night

substantiallycompromised · 01/09/2011 23:36

Right, let's see what you have all been up to ...

Messymamma has been manfully resisting the ciggies (that really should read womanfully). Hang in there MM!

Whyistherumalwaysgone and Idrilis have put this scatterbrain thread leader to shame and given us all an object lesson in how to Fly superlatively by completing substantial yet succinct, manageable lists and organising themselves for tomorrow. Top Flying marks to both of you!
Whoknows has been cheering her ds's football success, applying Flying lessons to her workspace and counting her hotspots. [I'm not declaring the number hereBlush but agree fresh flowers always help!]
Whey hey Ouch is going to be at a decent hour Shock Grin and has had a helping hand from her fab sister
Haunted has joined the thread (welcome!) and has asked us to be stern with her ....Wink [SC hands over shiny sink dispensation]
Rowingboat has been reassuring about never-ending sewing projects and is locked in mortal combat with moths and has (very impressively) been buying next year's summer clothes in the sale!!

Blue has had a productive day and is about to experiment with lettuce soup
Silvery has also been productive and has introduced an inspired Nesbit section to her 'to do' list. I can see this catching on ...
Nicknacks has been preparing for her dd's 1st birthday tomorrow! Hope you all have a lovely, special day!
Madwoman has been admiring snow-capped mountains and declaring war on fish-slices!
Swan has been wrestling with Microsoft Office (sympathies) and has had lots of fresh air. Arf at Mr Oh-No!! Grin
Yay! Toffee Pushme and Silken have found us and popped in to say hello Smile
Fuzzled has been getting herself back in to work mode
MrsWoodenTop has been shining her porcelain sink
Linzer has been preparing for travel yet again Envy emoticon
and CheerfulYank (given the time difference) will probably be slaying the clothing monster as I type. Good luck!

Oh that took a lot longer than anticipated. I'm out of practice. I've also left myself far too much to do tomorrow (going back to work) so had better head for bed!

See you in the morning everyone!

SC love the idea of just being. It is the perfect state to be in sometimes.

Brain is going 101miles/hr atm. So going to put up a list for tomo:

Get up
Banking
Order new glasses
Pick up some wool and new knitting needles
Trip out with mother
Pick up a wall planner calander (Need to see all months as life is getting uber complicated and serious advance planning is now needed ).
Meeting
Late Training
Finish making the first of the christmas presents for this year.
Start getting organised.

Right sod the early night going to knit for a bit. See you in the morning.

madwomanintheattic · 02/09/2011 01:04

babystep done
finances day! pay mastercard, loan, e-mail bank re payoff figures. done
laundry (lots of very wet bedding ) in progress
grocery shop done
walk dogs done
dining room, kitchen bah

coostoonettle - anyone who volunteers to declutter the surrounding chaos is more than welcome. there are plenty of mountains to share. Grin how long have you got?!

haven't had time to read anything except round-up down Blush but i've done lots of admin (including arranging to meet someone for coffee tomorrow morning that i've been putting off - at a cafe Wink get me, i'm allowed out) and booking the dc's swimming lessons for the winter. i've also transferred all the notes on various scraps of paper to the calendar, so in theory, i can't drop any 'where are we supposed to be' balls.

so my list for tomorrow:

babystep (can't remember what day2 is lol, will have to click the link!)
bah humbug dining room/ kitchen continuation
take 2 bags of clothes to thrift shop (one is filled, but i know i can fill another!)
meeting re guides
meeting w/ teacher
walk dogs

and from tomorrow night i'm going to adopt the 'ta da' and 'nesbit' lists. Wink

happy flying all - can't believe you can fit flying in around the baking and chips in the park. i might even be inspired to add 'make banana choc chip loaf' to my list tomorrow...

SilveryMoon · 02/09/2011 01:47

[SC straightens up wearily from lacing shoes and does double take at Ouch Grin. Well done on the sewing. Hope you have had a modicum of sleep!! Agree about living in the moment and all that...

...although impossible this morning because I am too Angry with dh. Returning to work today and am severely tempted to go on strike and stay at home in order to tidy up the golf clubs he has left in the hall, the box of computer stuff he has left in the sitting room, the garden fork he has left in the kitchen Confused the suitcase he has left in the bathroom and so on and so on and so on. All of which needed to be carted up or down a flight of stairs. Instead of which I will be doing it in my lunch hour. Harrumph.

Toffeefudgecake · 02/09/2011 10:29

Stayed up till 1am labelling DS1's school uniform last night. At least it's done. As a result of disobeying Flylady's 'go to bed at a decent hour' rule, I am decidedly sluggish today (another rule disobeyed). The washing is on, however.

Feeling absurdly teary about DS1 starting school on Monday. I'm not meant to weep all over him Monday morning, right? Or trail him to school? Or sit at the back of his classroom all day? Or shout at any child or teacher who isn't nice to him? Hmm. That's a tall order.

When I get my arse into gear, I will get the basic routines done, then spend the rest of the day ferrying the DC round with their respective friends. DS1 is doing another practise walk to his new school, but with his friend this time (who he'll be walking with).

Apologies, yet again, for lack of personals. I do read through the thread. Thanks, SC, for taking it over this month.

Toffeefudgecake · 02/09/2011 10:30

who he'll be walking with to school on Monday, I mean.

Makingchanges · 02/09/2011 10:33

Morning all

I'm trying to work out how I read the thread yesterday but didn't post. I could have swore I had. Must have got distracted along the way. Had a manic day yesterday of one appointment after another. Things were just horrid, none of the appointments went right. I got stressed with supply agencies. Today will be a better day!!

haunted good luck on starting the PGCE course next week. Are you primary or Secondary? I did mine last year (I was just thing how I felt this time last year - excited, nervous, couldn't wait, scared, hopeful...) This thread was a lifeline for me at times, not only to vent but also just to keep me on track and give me a structure. Don't worry if you don't get on every day when you get into it, but come back to refocus when you can.
Nicknacks Your day sounds lovely. Hope you enjoy DDs birthday ( I always found dds birthdays strange when she was so young. I wanted them to get older to enjoy) I'm sure the bbq will be great.
Swan Hope DS's arm is ok when his cast is off. Just in time for school

Well I'm going to rebel today and not only not lace up my shoes but I'm going to be barefoot.

Jobs for today

  • Tidy DDs bedroom
  • Label DDs uniform
  • Buy a PE bag. Does anyone have any ideas where to buy a red pe bag from?
  • Get DD to tidy lounge toy hotspot
  • Make a list (or online shop) for next weeks shopping - Need to be organised with lunches and healthy food
  • Contact another supply agency
  • 3 x clothes washing
  • tidy understairs hotspot
  • Put away clean clothes
  • banking
  • Hoover upstairs (having in love with my new hoover - Have hoovered every day so far - Its just so nice to have a hoover that doesn't injure me moving from room to room.)

OK thats me for now - back later

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 02/09/2011 10:37

I joined an August thread really late, can I join this one earlyish?

I first joined a similar thread about a year ago and it really helped, so I'm hoping it'll help me get my act together. Goodness knows I need to.

As well as having all the usual stuff to do with 4DCs and the school run, we also need to have the mother of all clearouts as we'll soon be starting some building work and my usual trick of just moving things around just isn't going to work. I need to de-clutter like I've never de-cluttered before. Actually, come to think of it, I'm not very good at de-cluttering which is why I'm in this mess.
