Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

Sc DS can't pronounce the letter L very well, hence he wrote that something was briyiant instead of brilliant the other day, glad its not just him. Stupendous effort on the roundup BTW, much appreciated.

rowingboat · 20/09/2011 11:03

Whoknows my DS can pronounce 'l', well he had to really, because he always used it in place of 'y' as in 'lello lowy' (that's yellow lorry for the uninitiated and no he also can't pronounce 'r') Smile.

Haunted keeping standards high! Grin

OuchPassVodka · 20/09/2011 11:07

Morning. Today has not quite gone to plan due to ds being up every hour on the sodding hour and starting the day at 5am. Poor Dsis was babysitting and had to start her day unexpectedly early.

rowing - You confused me. Are you sure you mean me with DH away? Cos I don't have a DH. Its just me and ds in a shared house situation thing. I get a whole week of just me and ds which is going to be fabulous as other people are really annoying me atm - i suspect it will turn out to be pms.

Some project hand stitching
Sewing machine stitching
More project hand stitching
washing
Ds' bedding
Put clothes away.
Ds' homework but suspect he will be too tired for it tonight
Some decluttering in my room.

OuchPassVodka · 20/09/2011 12:17

On the topic of speak issues Ds still struggles with r and w. they come out the same. We have exercises to do with him but I suspect this is going to have to be raised with someone if it continues. Mind you as we still have to sort the bedwetting thing it can wait a teeny bit longer as I am more concerned with that.

Hi again
Ouch sorry, I'm such an idiot! Blush I had read Ihatecobwebs post and yours was the next post so I got all mixed up.
I do like reading everyone's posts, but I find it tricky to reply - must employ a secretary to help me sort out my flylady posts. Smile

substantiallycompromised · 20/09/2011 12:56

Quick coffee then out for shopping/school run

Arf at dc mispellings/mispronounciations!

Thank you Whoknows Smile Have a good day!
Good luck with your list RowingBoat! Well done on the sock front!
Oh no, sorry you are feeling rotten Swan. Hope you are not going down with something.
Well done on humungous efforts this morning Haunted (it's getting better, but over here people don't seem to bother about tidying up their houses for estate agent photos. When we were house hunting we use to (v hypocritically) comment on the mess and the socks drying on the radiators for all the world to inspect!!)
Sorry you had such a broken night Ouch. Hope the day gets better for you.
Toffee sorry to hear your ds is ill but brilliant about him still wanting to go to school! Hope he recovers quickly.

Must dash. Will try and be back on here at a reasonable hour tonight!

OuchPassVodka · 20/09/2011 13:23

No worries rowing just you aren't the first person to have married me off this week and I was beginning to wonder if i had forgotten something important WinkGrin

As for personals I really struggle and don't know how SC manages it to do the roundup.

Thanks for the round up SC.

Makingchanges · 20/09/2011 13:35

Afternoon all.

Apologies for lack of personals today. I'm having PC issues Hmm

Morning routine was so much better this morning. Had put a load of washing to dry and another load in, done 15 minutes flying and put ham to slow cook before school. Usually we are lucky if I've managed to get us both dressed and fed in time.

To Do list

  • Morning routine Done
  • Shopping for bits forgot yesterday done
  • Buy a new timer as DD broke previous one Done
  • Cook ham in slow cooker Done
  • Dry late night washing Done
  • wash towels Done
  • mission - both todays and yesterdays
  • 27 piece fling
  • hoover stairs
  • Cook tea - Seabass and roasted veg
  • 15 minutes room rescue in spare room
  • evening routine

I've had a phone call this morning as well asking me to to supply on Friday morning. Its only for the morning but its the first piece of supply that i've had so quite excited (and nervous) Smile - Now need to arrange morning childcare for Friday.

Right will hopefully catch up tonight when PC is behaving and Imight be able toscroll without pages shutting down on me. Hope everyone is having a good day.

madwomanintheattic · 20/09/2011 16:08

wow, haunted. i need a lie down after reading your morning! selling is such an odd business. you wouldn't get away with socks on the radiators here sc - it's really common to employ a staging company to get your house ready for listing (gulp) and there are all sorts of weird and wonderful 'musts'. my fave is that you have to have one kitchen cupboard completely empty so that potential buyers can judge depth/ space etc.

so it's just as well we can't get the finance to move in the near future, really.

will post lists later - in a rush!

OuchPassVodka · 20/09/2011 16:23

Oh bloody hell. It's going to be a long week. In fact it is going to be a long month. Kick my ass if I get too whiney about ds and sleep, or more accurately lack of.

Ihatecobwebs · 20/09/2011 17:43

Been to work for the day, so just getting started on the list. Slight panic this afternoon when I had a phonecall at work from my DM saying that the buses weren't running so she hadn't collected DS (4.5) from school! By now it was just picking up time, so I said goodbye, put down the phone and phoned a friend who has DC at same school. Thankfully she was still in the playground so able to collect mine with hers. DS wasn't at all bothered by change in pickup, but I was having images of DS left alone in the playground, not knowing what to do ....

Just not sure what my boss thought when he got back from his meeting to a note saying I had a pickup emergency at school and had left - will find out tomorrow Sad

Done not a lot really
Morning routine
DS to school
Me to work
Collect DS from friend
Tidy kitchen
Clean washing away
Washing on airer
Make beds
Phone dentist
Make tea

Still to do
Tea
Evening routine
School book reading with DS
Zone cleaning/declutter
s/s
Washing in machine
Find spark arrestor supplier - very important
WI paperwork
Prep WI banking
Exercise
Work and school bags for tomorrow
Birthday cards

substantiallycompromised · 20/09/2011 17:48

My pleasure Ouch! No ass-kicking from me today - you have done brilliantly to get through that list!
SC cackles hysterically at Madwoman's explanation of staging companies and empty cupboards in kitchen. (Just as well no one would buy our house 'cos it is full of holes and bits keep falling off Grin).
Congrats on your smooth start to the day MC and on your first bit of work!!!! All your perseverence paid off!! Great news!!!!
How did it go Haunted?

CNettle any news of your mil?

LinzerTorte · 20/09/2011 19:56

Hope your MIL gets on OK tomorrow, nettle; will be thinking about you all.

The DC are finally quiet and I must make the effort to get to bed a bit earlier tonight (it was midnight before I collapsed into bed last night). DD2 was very tired this afternoon and having major tantrums over her homework; I suggested she go for a lie-down and she wanted me to go with her. I was on the verge of falling asleep myself (unlike her!) and really had to force myself to get up again.

The English lesson went well today; I didn't get through half of what I'd prepared, so that will save some time next week. The children also all complained that their parents were too early when they arrived to pick them up and that the time never went that fast at school, so I think it went down well with them too. Grin Am now considering starting a second group after school on Fridays. Shock

Am managing to keep the house relatively tidy, downstairs at least, but missions and decluttering are being sadly neglected at the moment. I still have two English lessons to prepare for school on Thursday, but am hoping next week will be quieter as I'll only be teaching at school fortnightly this year. (I know this probably sounds pathetic to any teachers on the thread - how can teaching for two hours a week be so time-consuming?)

Oh, and the bee is falling apart already. Not sure whether I should go back to the shop and complain, but I'm not very good at that kind of thing (particularly not in German).

swanriver · 20/09/2011 21:52

nettie Reception protocol is very tiring isn't it Sad The twins had two entirely different teachers in sep classes, one of whom was quite (nicely) strict but used to say that no child should have to sit still for longer than ten minutes on carpet as it wasn't natural! The other one had so many "naughty" children in her class that it was clear that she was making them "naughty" by upsetting them and telling them off all the time. Anyway I probably don't remember very well...The children however adored both kinds of teacher!

MC exciting about supply teaching on Friday, well done for making routines stick too...

not quite sure what happened today..feel exhausted by it anyway...
however "strategic planning" quite successful Grin as have made one or two good decisions with DH
and DH instigated his Germanic "homeworkstraightafterschoolandthat's it!" model
Homework done, to a lower standard which is a good sign I think Grin
fish pie cooked
football
washing
3 x PE kits readyish
ds1 stuff readyish, washed his blazer, retrieved Oyster and lunchcard just in time..

sorted ds2 stuff for Residential Course in two weeks (hanging onto so many manky clothes just for the course which is all mud etc)
rejoiced that ds joined Choir at school (only three people!) Chess club and is now going in tomorrow for Open Day to show off his Badminton Hmm

[clunk] gong to watch telly now
