Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

Hi all,
had a nice holiday day and actually managed to do some flying this morning.

Swan 'Fields of Gold' lovely! Can they do 'Englishman in New York' next? Are they taking requests? Smile Yes trombone sounds quite large, harmonica probably easier, or triangle?

SC I bought Alliums today! Plus some daffoldilly things, not sure how big they will be, but the squirrels have eaten so many of my bulbs I need to top them up. I like a mauve/yellow Eastery display.

Ouch that's funny about your DH being away making some things easier. I feel that way as well! They are just so inconvenient! Grin

BlueES I was in Lidl today buying Allium and narcissi, bargain! I make stuffed marrow, love it, but DS thinks it is 'disgusting' actually a theme is emerging with DS and my cooking. Smile
As an aside Lidl currently have waterproof, fleece-lined trousers for children up to 8 and wooly lined thermal wellies for children up to a size 2. Snapped up some earlier - being gloomy about Winter.

Fuzzled poor you. I hope you can get your back unknotted soon and start to feel a bit more human.

Mad I think that counts as a shower: a fully-clothed, freezing shower, but still. Are you in the UK?

MC what are your routines now? Are they bigger, smaller?

Cheerful which coupons are you clipping? I hope you enjoyed your rampage.

My list of done
Morning routine including washing out, but think I forgot to sweep
lunch
vits
Yesterday's washing in
washing out
new load ready, but not in yet
bought waterproofs and snowboots
walk with DS
shopping
changed bedding
hotspot

Not done yet
washing back in
new load in and timer set
bit of a pedal on exercise bike

still no new babystep and I don't care.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 19/09/2011 21:44

I've fallen off the wagon big style :(

I have an estate agent coming to value house at 12:30 tomorrow so I think there will be some serious room rescuing going on....

oopslateagain · 19/09/2011 22:13

Late tonight! Had a mega laundry day today as it was so lovely and sunny and bright, have done all my washing (including bedding) and got it all dry!

Then I started photographing my stuff for Ebay, and have got halfway through listing it. Who would believe that it takes four hours to make a load of handbags sound fabulous! I have been decluttering the past couple of days and thought I'd try my luck on Ebay before dumping everything at the charity shop.

Tomorrow I am car-less so I'll be at home all day, no to-do list as such, I'll just be finishing my Ebay listings and then I think I'll hit Hotspot after Hotspot and do lots of 27 Fling Boogies!!! Watch out Ebay here I come again... Grin

swanriver · 19/09/2011 22:14

busy afternoon, Girls' football, ballet, football, homework and Scouts! Squeezed the Scouts in SmileHe was pleased to see all the old faces.

no garden stuff done though

done
tidied playroom enough to see there is loads more to do (CDs without covers anyone? and covers without CDs, paperwork without files and files without paperwork...)

I must be completely crackers but in an attempt to speed up tomorrow's homework I am typing out Ds's Canterbury notes. [Shrine homework] Verbatim, I will not change anything [Scouts Honour]....and then he'll have to cobble it together into an essay tomorrow.

Today he had to write an essay on his strengths and weaknesses in Literacy. "Strength 1. I can spell, unfuortonately I once only got 9/10 in a test. Strength 2. Planning. My mum and I plan interesting ideas together ShockBlush
Weakness 1. My stories are too long. And I can't finish them."

swanriver · 19/09/2011 22:17

rowing [sob] yes I love that one too! Well done on the bulbs.

BlueEyeshadow · 19/09/2011 22:22

Rowing - fortunately the marrow was just a very big courgette so no tough skin or nassssty seedses... I ended up adapting the recipe I use for stuffed aubergine, but it would have been better with something other than pasta (cooked for the sake of the boys ). Funnily enough, I also bought myself a fleece-lined waterproof jacket in Aldi today, and they had kids' sizes too. The German supermarkets seem to have officially declared it autumn!

Big waves to everyone else! Don't mean to derail the thread.

Better get on so the washing machine and DW can go on. Brew on the go for anyone who wants any...

dizzyday07 · 19/09/2011 22:26

I'm back. DD had a great birthday and the last of my visitors didn't leave until school pick up time today! As one of these was my mum at least all the washing up is done even if I have to put all the dishes away.

Other tasks I need to crack on with are:

  • washing the extra bedding and towels used over the weekend
  • find a place for all the presents!
  • take excess rubbish to the tip (wheelie bin is full)
  • take the extra panels out of the dining table
  • hoover throughout downstairs
  • wash kitchen floor
  • clean the bathrooms
  • clean my grill and oven - as the BBQ wouldn't start so I had to cook everything inside and
  • find a plumber - as Grandad bust a tap in the cloakroom!
droitwichmummy · 19/09/2011 23:06

out of house on time this morning so got the earlier train
DS to breakfast club en route
15 min declutter of bedroom
told DH to sort the random selection of clothes I'd found (see above) before bedtime - he did it straight away!
made tea - chili
DS to bed on time
loaded DW
load in WM

left to do - swish & swipe then bed

substantiallycompromised · 19/09/2011 23:15

Hello eveyrone. Hope you have had a good day.

Sorry! Sorry! Hopeless! Why are Mondays so tiring? Made a fatal mistake tonight and broke our golden rule of not sitting down to watch telly before evening routine complete ...

Dh was so tired he went up to bed not long after dd, and the last thing I remember was watching University Challenge (there was a series of questions about Romulus and Remus Swan btw!) Woke up just now on the sofa with the dinner things still to clear away Blush

So if you'll forgive me I'll post the baby-step now and round-up in the morning

Just before I do: a note to Fuzzled to wish her a speedy recovery! Sounds like you have had a v. rough time.

Good to see some absent friends returning tonight btw!

***
Baby-step number 20 for Tuesday 20th September is here and a really important one about including laundry in your routines.

All this week we will be Flying in Zone 4 (the master bedroom) here

The mission for Tuesday will appear here once the website updates itself.

But you can look here for a sneak peak at the missions for the week ahead (again, website will need to update itself)

Tuesday is a free day in Fat Fairy land - so just baby-steps, normal routines and 15 mins in current zone!

Keep going everyone!

I've done it!

SC yes Mondays are tiring, albeit invigorating in a way that Thursdays aren't...

waves to Dizzy and Droitwich and Fuzzled hope you feel better soon. Clean babies (any babies) are adorable.

swanriver · 19/09/2011 23:41

Cobwebs I'm thinking of the squirrels and Verruca Salt, with all those hazelnuts. Spark arrestor supplier Confused

Ihatecobwebs · 19/09/2011 23:50

Swan the widgit that stops the gas flame or spark backfiring into the system if there is a build up of gas and late ignition! Its rubber seal has perished so I've wrapped it in tape, but really need to find a new seal as I don't want to spend winter with replacement tape always at my side! Unfortunately, without a tight seal there, the air flow sensor doesn't get an accurate reading, and the car won't start.

Toffeefudgecake · 20/09/2011 00:00
oopslateagain · 20/09/2011 00:20

Cobwebs I am in awe of your lists!

LinzerTorte · 20/09/2011 07:09

Morning all,

I need to be ultra-efficient this morning, as have even less time than usual to fit everything in - I need to pick up DS mid-morning for his speech therapy appointment (the speech therapist will only see kindergarten children in the mornings), and then have to pick up five children (plus DD2) from school at 11.50 am for their English lesson, the first I'll have taught at home. Unlike at school, I will at lesat be getting paid for it. Grin

SC The bee I bought yesterday is for the English lessons; I have a few ideas about what I'm going to do with it. Grin One is a song that I used to sing with DD1 at Gym Rompers, called "Hickety pickety bumble bee", where the bee was passed round and the mothers would say/sing their children's name. I think I need to start teaching a few more lessons to make the bee pay for itself (but did resist the DC's pleas to buy one that cost ?20 Shock)!

This morning's list:

Tidy up downstairs
Make fish pie (postponed from yesterday)
DS to speech therapy
Get everything ready for English lesson

coostoonettle · 20/09/2011 07:32

Good morning Grin

A day ahead with no swimming and visit to a friend for tea and cake.

To do list

Get up dressed/s&s
Get dh to take ds to school
Dw/wm/td
Make cake
Make Lego toys
Buy Lego city box/mat
Take bags of toys to charity shop
Have coffee and cake with friend
Make chilli in slow cooker
Meet the teacher at school
Pick ds up
Homework
Lay out clothes
Do ocado order
Chill time and bed.

I'm off to check missions just in case I have time to fit it in.

Have lovely days. Hope to be back to update properly tonight. Grin

substantiallycompromised · 20/09/2011 08:37

Good morning!!

Yesterday:

Linzer was buying a toy bee, preparing to give English lessons at home (glad you are being paid this time - hope first one goes well today) doing lots of school runs at different times, Shredding, preparing to make a fish pie and generally being madly busy
Oops did ALL her laundry and photographed handbags and today she will be hitting multiple hot-spots and focusing on fling-boogies!
Toffee popped her head around the door to say "hello" Smile
Ihate rejoined us (yay!) worked her way through a typically humungously long list, became side-tracked by her allotment and spent the evening blanching, freezing and processing hazelnuts. Today she will be trying to find a spark arrestor supplier.
Swan paid a visit to ballet, girls' football, boys' football and Scouts, supervised homework, typed out Canterbury notes and cleared the playroom sufficiently well to see what else needs clearing/cleaning!
Do you know, it was very dark, but I could have sworn I caught a passing glimpse of DroitwichMummy last night - and look there is her 'ta da' list - but, dunno, perhaps I was mistaken?? Confused Grin
Dizzy had a post-visitor clean-up with the help of her mum (glad your dd had a great birthday!)
Blue did her grocery shopping and laundry and stuffed a marrow. (Hope your dh is feeling better today.) (And, yes - will get my act together on the bulb front eventually!)
Yay ! Haunted suddenly reappeared (true to her nickname Grin!) and having fallen off the wagon, will be getting back on it today in preparation for a house valuation
Rowingboat had a productive day's holiday Flying at home! (I always try and save allium heads to spray/use as Christmas decorations - but dd usually manages to decapitate them with her frisbee before I get the chance!)
CNettle was feeling tired after a busy day (glad cashing up went well) and went to spent some rare relaxtion time with her dh. (Will be thinking of your m-i-l tomorrow x)
MC Flew, polished her routines, dealt with a moon dough explosion, reflected on her sink and cooked lamb shanks. Today she will be slow-cooking a joint of ham (yum!) (Hope your dd feels better today too)
Ambulances are allowed on car-free day btw (and you are allowed to take a taxi/use vehicle if you are elderly/disabled in any way.)
CheerfulY remembered to post on here Smile Flew, clipped coupons and rampaged with her dogs [The Flylady website won't let me access it for the moment - but to unsubscribe from her e-mails - you need to go to Flylady Big Tent and the instructions (if I remember correctly) are at the bottom of the page.]
Whoknows completed everything on her list including running and Shredding and is generally winning the battle on the house front! (Well done - so glad to know the system is working for you - even when lurgies have struck!!!)
Ouch has finished making three Christmas presents (whey hey!) but was in a foul mood Grin and sensibly headed for bed. Today she will be hitting the ground running! Go girl!
Yay! Madwoman returned and has been going great guns on the Flying front (top marks for conquering living room, bedrooms, bathrooms and dc shared bedroom!) she also decluttered, did errands, solved her home office conundrum and enjoyed a spontaneous 'eco' shower! (Hope the results of your scans and eye tests are OK - sending positive thoughts x)
Hattifattner paid a visit Smile Having worked through her list she was off to do some damage limitation in her bathroom and bedrooms!
Brokenwingedflier provided us with a great testimonial on the benefits of Flying - everyone please read this - particularly if you are lacking inspiration!!!! (So glad your puppy survived and is back at home)

Scrolling getting a bit difficult - will post this then back to finish the rest!

OP posts:
substantiallycompromised · 20/09/2011 08:50

And so to continue round-up from yesterday ...

Fuzzled was recovering from a horrible, horrible stomach bug and was sensibly taking it gently getting the house back in to shape (don't overdo it!)
Blue forgot to mention that your ds was very brave at his first day at play-group yesterday - so glad it went well!!
PA was recovering from the most manic weekend known to man!!
oh and Linzer again - forgot to mention - we have similar probs with dd's written English. She wrote a leaving card the other day to a friend which said "I am weally, weally going to miss you" (can you guess she can't pronounce her "r's" properly?? (in Eng anyway - no prob in Flemish for some bizarre reason!)
x-posts Have a good day CNettle

Waves to Pushme Feetheart MissJ and loads of people I've missed!

Bathroom rescued...

How many 15ish minute room rescues ..can I fit in between now and 12:30 (and I need to fit in a shower....)

I have 6 rooms left to do but some will need a double rescue....

Toffeefudgecake · 20/09/2011 09:59

Morning all. DS1 is off school with a stomach bug today. He actually wanted to go to school and was upset when I insisted he was too ill! I don't think that's ever happened before.

I have just sent him upstairs, where he is listening to music on Spotify in a very teenage boy kind of way. The house has deteriorated into chaos overnight, it seems Confused - not helped by DH leaving DS2's huge car seat and a flatpack desk in our tiny hall before he left for work this morning Angry.

I have a friend coming round for lunch today, so I have a good incentive to do a crisis clean this morning. So, I need a list:

Before-school routine done
School run done
Breakfast done
Tesco delivery due - put shopping away
Morning routine
Finish yesterday's home clean-up (hoovering, polishing and wiping mirrors)
Crisis clean / room rescues
Prepare lunch
Lunch with friend
School run
PM routine
What's for dinner? Easy stuff tonight - fish fingers
Evening routine
Bed at decent hour

Right, better get cracking!

HauntedLittleLunatic · 20/09/2011 10:00

Dd3 bedroom rescued
Dtds bedroom rescued

Now for my bedroom...this.could need more than 15 minutes...

rowingboat · 20/09/2011 10:16

Hi all,

Nice sunny day here! Smile So the washing that got dried and then soaked again is now dry again. Hooray!

Haunted is the estate agent taking pictures. As long as you don't actually have to be in the pictures (you aren't being sold with the property are you?! Grin) I think you could skip the shower and do the rooms.

Swan what are Canterbury notes, are they like York notes?

OK on with the work

To do
morning routine which is (for me, in case I forget a bit)
Kitchen - washing up, s&s, sweep
Bathroom s&s, sweep
washing in
washing out
new load in
I should write this on a post-it shouldn't I - only have cyberman post-its!

vacuum sitting room
shampoo bit of carpet near door and near Telly

put away clothes

declutter my clothes drawer for 5 mins
5 minute room rescue sitting room
dinner? what is it!?!?!
bicycle in car
pickup DS drive to park pedal to possible new class for a nosey
make a little garden plan for this week.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 20/09/2011 10:20

No EA isn't taking pictures...but I have dignity....:)
