How often do you wash your oven gloves?

My new cleaner seems to want to wash mine about every 8 minutes. It is driving me mad. Every time I turn around to grab them and take something out of the oven they are not there and I end up juggling with damp tea towels.

I was going to ask her to stop washing the bloody things (prior to her arrival they very rarely got a bath) but then It occurred to me that I might be a manky scrote, and maybe everyone else washes theirs as often as the tea towels too.

Well?

They are not dear - have someone give you another pair for your birthday. I wash mine about once a fortnight......

shinyshoes · 20/03/2011 18:21

i wash mine about once every couple of months. Perhaps i'm a manky scrote too Blush

BertieBotts · 20/03/2011 18:22

I tend to chuck whichever one looks dirtier in with my towels/tea towels/flannels wash. Which I don't do that often - maybe once every 2 weeks - as I have masses of towels, tea towels and flannels. But then I do have two and make sure I never wash both at once.

DelicateFluffyBunny · 20/03/2011 18:22

I don't even own oven gloves.

exexpat · 20/03/2011 18:29

Can't you just get yourself a spare one/set? I'm sure I've seen them at pound shops.... I have two, so when they occasionally get washed, there is another to hand.

TheVisitor · 20/03/2011 18:30

When they look minging.

MinnieBar · 20/03/2011 18:33

Not often enough Blush
But yes, just buy another pair!

ethelina · 20/03/2011 18:41

When they get stained, anywhere between once a week and once a quarter.

annapolly · 20/03/2011 18:43

I prefer to use tea towels, easier to boil wash.

I do find they nearly always get something on them in the process of cooking.

ethelina · 20/03/2011 18:45

Is it too sad to mention my ovengloves are from Lakeland and far superior to any i've ever come accross before?

perfectingmygrowl · 20/03/2011 18:49

mine get replaced before they need washing as I have a nasty habit of setting them alight ...

mathanxiety · 20/03/2011 19:28

I have never washed mine. Blush
I keep them in a drawer, safely out of sight.

mousymouse · 20/03/2011 19:49

when they smell, which is about twice a year.

cyb · 20/03/2011 19:50

I love MN

bibbitybobbityhat · 20/03/2011 19:51

Never! I don't know what wash to put them in with.

I buy new ones.

DaydreamDollyisshrinking · 20/03/2011 19:52

You wash oven gloves??

Oh. Blush

ttalloo · 20/03/2011 19:54

My two pairs of oven gloves are both from Lakeland, ethelina! And I too think they are extremely good.

I stick mine in with my whites whenever they look grubby - so they usually get cleaned anything from 1-4 times a month, depending on what I've been cooking.

merlin · 20/03/2011 19:57

Don't know about washing them, but I need some new ones = either green or aubergine/plummy colour if anyone has spotted any?!!!!

Oh, and I like 2 gloves not those joined together ones!!!!

withagoat · 20/03/2011 19:58

oh ffs what a SAD thread

bibbitybobbityhat · 20/03/2011 20:03

Nah, this is not a sad thread. And at least its not something that has been on Mumsnet a million times before.

This, otoh, is a sad thread.

Sad, as in limp, juvenile, unimaginative.

ethelina · 20/03/2011 20:10

Mine get bunged in with the teatowels normally.

If we're requesting, I'm looking for an all-black glove suitable for opening my woodburner doors and dealing with bits of burnt without showing the charcoal.

This is a great thread Grin I am in my element here.

exexpat · 20/03/2011 20:16

ethelina - these ones in black would probably fit the bill. I'm quite tempted myself.... (OK, maybe that is a bit sad, but at least they wouldn't need laundering....)

morfamawddach · 20/03/2011 20:18

I'm clearly in a skanky minority, but my oven gloves never get washed. My sister bought me a pair last year and I couldn't think why. Mine were still perfectcly serviceable. Just black. Grin

morfamawddach · 20/03/2011 20:19

perfectly

ethelina · 20/03/2011 20:21

Thanks for that exexpat. Not sure about them though, reviews are mostly terrible. Will consider.
